When he’d told Sue he thought he had a virus three days ago, he’d had an image in his mind of what it used to be like when he got sick, before Reed Richards and his cosmic rays had turned their lives upside-down. She’d heated canned soup for him and let him burrow into their mother’s old terry cloth bathrobe and stroked his hair while he dozed on the couch to the sound of cartoons on the television.
If he’d spent five seconds really thinking it through, of course, he’d have known it wouldn’t be that way. They had resources now beyond what they’d had when they were just a couple of kids trying to make sure they could get by on what their parents had left behind. Johnny had been seen by pretty much the top doctor in the city, because of course Reed knew him. And Sue had responsibilities besides just Johnny now. They all did.
Except Johnny had let everyone down, and Spider-Man of all people had to swing in and clean up the mess Johnny had left.
