It's been 5 years. Five long years now that Clancy was captured. It's probably for the best, he thinks, because as Nico said multiple times, he wouldn't have survived in Trench with the banditos. They were just rebels, they didn't care about him. If they did, he would have been free by now.
But now, free meant Nico. Free meant obediance, it meant that if he was good enough today, he could get out of his room and see his saviors, see the Bishops. Freedom meant nothing more than that to Clancy, and he was happy with it. As long as he was obedient, he would be cared for, cherished and fed.
