Her head is a little spinny and overwhelmed as she learns what it’s like to date Frank Langdon instead of just be weirdly co-dependent best friends with Frank Langdon. She starts a new section of her journal titled Observations, Hypotheses, and Research Questions (RQs) - FAL where she jots some of her newly acquired data down, just to get it out of her head, mostly little things like:

Summary
Frank must have screamed. Maybe he cried out for help. He couldn’t be sure, as his whole world had tunneled down to the preternaturally still body of the woman he loved, splayed out in front of him on the cold trauma room floor. Her golden blonde hair was matted with drying blood, and on instinct he smoothed some of the strands from her forehead. Mel always hated when her hair was in her eyes, but they were closed now. It took everything in him to resist the urge to gather her broken body to his chest and hold her close as though he could infuse his life into hers. Instead, he lifted a shaky hand to the side of her neck to feel for a pulse. He was deeply certain that if he didn’t find one, his own heart would cease to beat as well.

He licked his lips and his throat bobbed. She exhaled sharply when his eyes went back to hers, his gaze heavily clouded with desire she also felt for him.
“You’re drunk, Mel.” He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. “You don’t know what you’re doing.”
She shook her head. “I didn’t drink a single drop of alcohol tonight. I know what I’m doing, Frank.”
Mel was drunk and Frank took care of her. Somewhere along the way they found it hard to ignore that they are meant to be more than friends.
Set after Trinity and Mel went to the karaoke bar.
