“Well,” Sirius says, easily drawing the room’s attention back to himself. “I think it’s time.”
Their grandchildren exchange a look; Jamie’s excitement palpable, Mira giggling softly.
Remus nods, turning towards the bookcase on the opposite wall, before Mira jumps to her feet.
“I’ll get it, Moony,” she says, gesturing for Remus to take her place on the sofa.
“Thank you, love,” Remus responds.

Summary
“What the fuck was New York?” Sirius stands up straight, the bottle clattering against the chain of his wallet on his hip.
“What was New York?” Remus asks incrediously, “Um, I don't know Sirius, what was New York?”
Sirius laughs, but it's not funny.
It's not funny at all, and Remus is itching to grab that fucking cigarette right out of his fingers and fling it away. Wants to grab Sirius and shake him and say, Don't you see? Don't you see what I did to get back to you? What I did to make it better?
And Remus always knew, somewhere deep down inside himself, that it would come to this. That every single thing he'd done in the last twelve years would lead him to this moment right here, and yet somehow he still feels woefully unprepared as Sirius takes a slow swig off his bottle and cuts his eyes at him.
And he realizes that the anger is quickly rising in him again, and he is frustrated, anxious, and just fucking tired. He is so tired, and he doesn't recognize the man in front of him.
"I don't know, Remus, I really don't fucking know."
And that's not good enough.
