Rudo gives that declaration like he’s commenting on something particularly obvious like the weather. Follo, who had been quietly retrieving a drink from the nearby vending machine, makes a sound like he just choked on his own spit.

“It was some guy you grew up with or somethin’, right?” Zanka reaches forward and grabs Follo’s shoulder. “That’s fine, I don’t really care.”
Zanka pushes and Follo’s back hits the bed. He bounces once then feels the mattress dip as Zanka places one knee then the other on either side of his waist before climbing directly on top of him.

Summary
How did he really feel? Was he simply replacing one inspiration for another? That didn't seem right, wasn't an adequate enough description for the situation. Follo wanted those dark eyes to follow him. He wanted those lithe hands on his skin, peeling back the layers of his being. He wanted to hear the quiet laughter, pull a rare smile to his lips. He wanted the praise, wanted to be seen as worthy by the cleaners, by his cleaner.
A crush. He had a crush on Zanka of all people.

Walking into the kitchen, Follo chokes on his sobs, forcing himself to breathe even if it hurts. Alan’s parents look up quite sharply, and his mother’s eyes widen as she takes in Follo’s dishevelled appearance.
“Follo? What’s–”
“Call an ambulance,” Follo hiccups, “Call– one, please.”
Follo returns to the North Ward on a mission after becoming a giver. He decides to pay a friend a visit, but discovers that he was too late by only a matter of hours. When he finds himself at his lowest, Zanka is there to offer a hand to hold.
