Operation: Farvel Haugland (Goodbye Haugland)

Summary:

It has been over a year since the death of Harishva "Harry" Pandey, Director of RAINBOW SIX at the hands of a mysterious figure known as Deimos, who is also responsible for the rise in criminal activity resulting in the reorganisation of RAINBOW SIX, and NIGHTHAVEN weapons falling into the hands of criminals.

This resulted in NIGHTHAVEN being forced to disband, and the Operators being given two choices join RAINBOW SIX or resign, return home and get a new job.
ACE chose the latter and will start a new life back in Trolberg, his home.

Erik Ahlberg is known in Trolberg for a few things, former Head of the Trolberg Safety Patrol, a windbag, a glory hound, Protector of Trolberg, and the decedent of Edmund Ahlberg.
However, few know about Erik Ahlberg's nephew, who grew up amongst them, before seeking adventure out of Trolberg.

Years later, his nephew returns home to Trolberg from his adventures.

Chapter 1: The journey home.

Somewhere in the Norwegian Fjord, 26 October 2024, 1600 hrs.

Ferry: The Flying Woff.

Owner: Trolberg Ferry Service.

Departure Port: Oslo Port, departure time 1200 hrs, 26 October 2024.

Destination Port: Trolberg Harbour, estimated arrival time 1630 hrs, 26 October 2024.

Inside the Ferry

Håvard Haugland known to his colleagues at both RAINBOW SIX and NIGHTHAVEN as ACE is at his seat on board the Ferry enjoying his lunch of open-faced sandwiches, consisting of seafood such as smoked Salmon, crab meat, shrimp, anchovies, and sardine. Together with onions, lettuce, cucumber, and chives. Topped with either scrambled eggs or sliced hardboiled eggs and served with mayonnaise, and sprinkled with chopped chives, dill and parsley all placed on various slices of buttered rye bread. Garnished with a few lemon slices on the side.

He is having a nice cup of hot chocolate to go with his meal, while he enjoys the view of the Norwegian Fjord through the window, from inside the cabin of the ferry as it passed by him.

Most of ACE’s colleagues in RAINBOW SIX especially the Italians, French, Brazilians, Australians, and Japanese, together with some of his NIGHTHAVEN colleagues such as Aruni from Thailand and Grim from Singapore, wondered how ACE could live on such boring and bland meals. When they see him eating food from his country.

This resulted in him despite being seen as an annoyance to almost everyone, being forced to come along to have a post-mission meal or a downtime meal with his colleagues. Especially if he and his colleagues are in the home country of either one or more of his colleagues.

Since the NIGHTHAVEN labs are in Grim’s home country of Singapore, where there is a huge variety of food to choose from to suit all budgets and palettes, Ace would be dragged by Grim to have a meal during their downtime. However, given the opportunity Grim would bring ACE and some of his colleagues to Malaysia mainly, Johor Baharu to have dinner.

However, despite trying different food from all over the world, the most memorable experience was when both Grim and Aruni brought some durians to the NIGHTHAVEN base for the operators to share. Despite the durian being more pungent compared to a dish from his home country which is fermented fish, he enjoyed the taste of the fruit once he took the first bite.

However, it resulted in the whole lab being evacuated as someone thought there was a gas leak due to the smell of the durians and it resulted in him, Aruni, and Grim being given a stern talking to by Kali their boss for causing a panic. However, they were told by Smoke to invite him if they are bringing durians back to the base, which all three know why he wanted to know when they bring durians back to the base.

ACE’s days of going on missions and trying different dishes all over the world are long behind him for the most part as he has been officially discharged from both RAINBOW SIX and NIGHTHAVEN in June of that year and is now heading back to his second home in Norway which is Trolberg, a walled city located in the Norwegian Fjord where he was raised there by his uncle, and where he will start a new job there as a Trainer and Lead Rescuer for the City’s Fire and Rescue organisation, which is the Trolberg Civil Defence Force.
