Work Text:
Frank had been under the impression that the powers-that-be in the hospital ecosystem understood that he and Mel were not to be put on separate shifts. Did they not remember the incident? Despite this, Frank was scheduled to work this lovely fall day while Mel was off.
Frank chewed the inside of his cheeks while staring down the board. He should have been off with Mel. They could have gone out of the city for the day, or stayed in, curling up together on their couch and basking in each other's company. Anything other than being separated for the day.
The buzzing of his watch broke his moping. At least Mel had been keeping him updated on everything she did today. Every fifteen minutes, a new text would arrive, usually accompanied by a picture. The last one had been a picture of Mel's favourite mug captioned found the last bag of Irish breakfast in the cupboard 😋.
This picture was of Mel taken in the mirror by their front door. She had her hair pulled half up and one of his old leather jackets on over the stretchy pants and cropped t-shirt she was wearing this morning when he left for work. Running out to the grocery store, going to make a surprise for supper. Let me know when you're on your way home❤️
Frank smiled down at his phone. Maybe being on separate shifts as Mel wasn't the worst thing in the world.
