Organization for Transformative Works: Elections News: Cast Your Vote!

The election has opened!

Every OTW member who joined between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, should have a ballot by now. If you didn't get one, please check your spam folder first, then contact us via our contact form. If you are unsure whether your donation was made before the deadline, please contact our Development and Membership Committee by using the contact form on our website and selecting "Is my membership current/Am I eligible to vote?"

The election will run through August 18, 2025, 23:59 UTC; check this time zone converter to find out what time that will be for you.

The Organization for Transformative Works is the non-profit parent organization of multiple projects including Archive of Our Own, Fanlore, Open Doors, Transformative Works and Cultures, and OTW Legal Advocacy. We are a fan-run, entirely donor-supported organization staffed by volunteers. Find out more about us on our website.

  From Elections FAQ - As a legally recognized nonprofit organization, we are obligated to make sure each vote comes from a distinct, legally recognized individual. The easiest way to do this is by tying membership status to donations made via a bank account or credit card — that is, a payment method that establishes identity. It’s because of this principle that donations made via cash or money order do not confer membership.

  The OTW is the Organization for Transformative Works. It's the parent organization that controls the AO3, and the board is the people who control it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

  Hi MCU_CircusWriter, thank you for your question!
  The OTW is a non-profit organization which oversees several fannish projects, including Ao3. Every year we hold an election to pick new Directors for the OTW's Board of Directors. You can find information about the Board's duties on our website. The candidates will be currently serving volunteers who meet the eligibility requirements and declare their candidacy before the deadline.
  Anyone who made one donation of at least $10 USD to the OTW before June 30th and checks the box for membership will be eligible to vote in these elections. If you'd like to check your current membership status, you can contact us via our contact form.
  News about elections will be posted here on Ao3. Alternatively, you can follow us directly on Tumblr, Twitter/X or BlueSky.

    hi there! the 'yay otw' in my og comment was a reference to a previous comment i saw that said something along the lines of "two of these candidates just have buzzwords and have platforms that can be summed up as 'yay otw'". i hope this helps!!

  There are people at work trying to reform the OTW's leadership and establish it as a proper absolute monarchy (as Providence intended, for who would decline leadership of a fine lion in favor of two hundred rats?) but we're having problems finding the current living descendant(s) of the first fanfic writer.

    There usually isn't an actual election. These seats might as well be uncontested, and the candidates are clones with seemingly no power. The whole thing looks like a legal checkbox being ticked.
