Satoru had never seen such a striking shade of purple—visible only under the low light of a campfire, across a fire pit and half a field, and partially obscured by a curtain of long, black hair. The image of him clung to the back of his eyelids and made him regret not stopping the performance just to follow him across the field.
In an effort to amend the error, Satoru spent a couple of days looking for him, months deciding he wanted to spend his life with him, and days fighting the idea that it might not be so simple.
The Fates were complicated, kindness and cruelty and cosmic indifference wrapped into three. In less than a year, Satoru is given the blessing of a lifetime, ruined beyond measure, and left to deal with the fallout.
Lucky him.
