Chapter Text
It was around a week ago from when Damon had raped Eva “in her sleep”. Ever since that day, she was very afraid of going to sleep, especially when she wasn’t alone. And it only got worse when Desmond proposed for everybody to have roommates.
Of course, they listened to him. It wasn’t safe to sleep in a room alone with broken doorknobs, and if somebody did try to kill their partner, it wouldn’t be too hard to figure out who did it.
Eva instantly dreaded having to share a room with somebody. It meant that horrible situation could happen again, just with somebody else. Even when the others were avoiding her, it made the girl sick.
She stayed lost in thought about all the awful possibilities of having a new roommate, until suddenly, she felt somebody put a hand on her shoulder. It startled Eva, until she saw that it was only Diana. “Hey, Eva… could we be bunk buddies?”
She froze for a second and stood there silently for a few more. She knew that she probably couldn’t say no to her, or else she would be forced to go with somebody else, anyways. So, reluctantly, she muttered, “Okay. We can bunk together.”
Almost as soon as she said the words “okay”, Diana squealed and hugged her tight, which made her flinch. “Really? Yay!!” She hugged her a little longer until Eva eventually pushed her away. Even when Diana seemed so nice, she still couldn’t help but have doubts and fears running in her mind.
Eventually, everyone had gotten their roommate and had moved to their rooms. Diana had proposed that for the first night, they could both sleep in the same bed, which she was hesitant about at first, but decided to nod her head anyways.
Now, it was now time for the two of them to go to sleep. Except, Eva just couldn’t get herself to fall asleep. She stared at the ceiling and tossed and turned, but no matter what, her eyes wouldn’t shut on her. It wasn’t long until Diana woke up from her trying to force herself to go to sleep.
“Eva..?” She mumbled out, rubbing her eyes as she sat up. Eva froze yet again and looked over to her. “What? Did I wake you up?” Diana nodded her head, “Yeah, but it’s not your fault… are you okay? I would’ve thought you’d be asleep by now.”
Eva was quick to give a cold response, “I’m fine. I’ll fall asleep eventually.” Even though it was supposed to reassure Diana, it only made her feel more worried. “Are you sure? I could maybe get you something to—”
“I’m FINE, Diana! Stop worrying about me, just go back to bed!” She snapped, and after her anger had faded away, she was able to see Diana’s surprised face. “Alright, I’m sorry for pushing you… here, I’ll just hold you. Maybe that’ll make you feel better.”
Diana wrapped her arms around Eva’s body, only to be shoved away immediately by her natural instinct. “G-get your hands off of me. Don’t you EVER touch me while I’m trying to sleep! EVER!!”
Eva mentally cursed herself for lashing out at such a kind girl when all she was doing was trying to help. This was the one and only thing she hated about this stupid roommate thing, people seeing her in this vulnerable position where she would freak out if anyone tried to console her or get her to fall asleep.
Which is why after only a few seconds, Diana could notice small tears flowing down Eva’s face underneath the dimness of the room. “Eva, I’m so sorry… please, don’t cry, I promise I won’t touch you…”
She would’ve denied the fact that she was crying, but since she was already overwhelmed and scared as she was, she began to sob louder. Loud enough for anyone near her to realize that she was crying. “N-now look at what you’ve done… this is humiliating.”
She continued to sob, choking on her tears while Diana looked up at her with the guiltiest face in the world. Eva knew that she had no idea what to say. She wiped her tears, which didn’t really work as they kept on flowing down her cheeks.
“It’s not your fault, Diana… I’m just more afraid than I normally am when I fall asleep. Especially with people.” She then paused, a sniffle coming out of her. “Please, promise that you won’t think of me differently when I tell you why I have trouble sleeping… I just can’t keep this a secret for much longer.”
She nodded, and then Eva told her everything. She told her about how Damon had violated her and how she was pretending to be asleep as it happened. As soon as she was done, she was sobbing even harder than she was before while Diana looked at her with a face full of horror. “Please, don’t tell anyone… especially not Damon…”
“Oh my god, Eva, that’s horrible… I believe you, and I’m so sorry that he did that to you.” Her tone was full of sadness and disgust at the same time. And then, rather suddenly, Eva hugged Diana, letting her hug her back while weeping into her chest.
“It’s gonna be okay… so long as I’m here, I’m gonna try my best to not let him hurt you anymore. I promise, Eva.” The two of them smiled at each other, and after a little while, Eva stopped crying and was able to fall asleep.
Diana fell asleep right next to her, the last thing she was thinking of echoing in her mind, “I’m going to keep my promise, Eva. You can count on me.”
