Work Text:
The house creaked with the wind, echoing the shouts that had long since ceased, which now came back in full force with their ever-increasing terror.
“Cat? Do you hear that?” Eleanor was opening the door to Catherine’s room. Scared by the storm, she had run into her friends’ room for safety, only to find the latter asleep soundly.
Eleanor set herself down at the edge of the bed, “These winds have me so frightened. Did my brother tell you about the ghosts that roam this house? Why, the wind has brought up such terrible memories!”
Catherine still did not stir, and Eleanor did not mean to wake her, for just her being near gave Eleanor some comfort. To subdue the emotions that leapt in her heart, Eleanor grabbed the hand of Catherine to find her quite cold.
“Oh my dearest! You are freezing!”
Catherine still did not rise. “Catherine?” Eleanor began again.
With great fear, she turned her friend’s head to face her, and only found white, blank eyes staring back at her.
