An Apology to RWBY & Class of '09 Fanfic Writers
my original intention with my bookmark system was to enable me to leave pseudo-reviews on fics that authors wouldn’t necessarily see unless they went out of their way to look for it. I was new to the site and didn’t understand the systems it had in place correctly, nor did I do the research necessary to truly find out.
later i ended up forgetting that writers could even see bookmarks, so i started writing for myself; my usual filter was removed and efforts to give constructive criticism were thrown out the window. my bookmark system had become a method of privately reviewing fics, but it was also a cruel permanent scar that would affix itself to fics since authors can’t delete bookmarks like they can comments.
and yes, i never truly saw the obvious “Private Bookmark” button.
i eventually found out in June 2024 that several authors had been reading my bookmarks and had witnessed my cruel, uncaring criticism about works they had poured hours upon hours of unbridled effort and passion into. the mere sight of my name would cause them to feel anxious. to say that i was mortified and horrified with myself would be a massive understatement.
i have created plenty of times before myself, and i know how utterly demoralizing it is to put blood, sweat, and tears into something only for someone to tear it down without a singular thought for the creator’s emotions.
i am sorry; from the bottom of my heart, i am sorry to any authors that may have read my cruel, toxic criticism. to say that this was a series of unfortunate mistakes would be giving myself far too much credit; it was continuous ignorance and idiocy that led to this outcome. i can only hope that you brushed aside my awful writings and continued creating regardless. this repeated lapse in judgement is something i will never forget.
