I'm old enough to have watched Star Trek:TOS the first time around. I'm married, a parent of a grad student, retired, and a fan of SF (C.J. Cherryh, Ann Leckie, James H. Schmitz, etc.), fantasy (JRRT, Abhorsen, Patricia McKillip, Tanith Lee, Martha Wells, P.C. Hodgell, Diana Wynne Jones), manga (Saiyuki, Black Lagoon, Blade of the Immortal, xxxHolic, Antique Bakery, Ooku, and more), and some historical fiction (Dorothy Dunnett, Rosemary Sutcliff), etc.
I almost always prefer written word/illustration to video media, but I do like Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Ponyo, Princess Mononoke).
I have worked as an editor and a writer, primarily of nonfiction.
I enjoy reading and writing fanfiction and am quite partial to slash, as long as the characters don't seem to have been lobotomized for the purpose. I also don't care for stereotyped seme/uke relationships. Flexibility is a good thing.
