Chapter 1: quiet train rides, noisy classrooms
Chapter Text
The sky was beginning to fade into a soft sort of blue, painting the inside of the train in gentle, hazy tones. The morning sunlight filtered through the crowded aisle, and Katsuki blinked away the tired edge to his vision. The train was always busy in the mornings, and this time he hadn’t been able to get a seat. He’d contemplated just pretending he couldn’t stand, but forcing some old lady out of her seat seemed a bit extreme, even for him.
It was early, barely past 6 in the morning, yet the train was packed. Katsuki had struggled to squeeze in, and was standing with one hand wrapped around a pole to steady himself against the gentle rocking of the train. The carriage was nearly quiet, and he closed his eyes against the lazy sunlight, just for a few seconds. He was fucking tired, Thursday was always the hardest day of the week, at least in his opinion. He hadn’t woken up fully yet, despite his morning run, despite taking his sister to the morning club at her nursery, and despite the fact that he was already on his way to UA. The end of term was coming up, and the teachers (mainly Mr fucking Aizawa) had been working them extra hard, trying to force as much knowledge into their heads as possible before the summer break.
While the academic side of the Heroics course had never troubled Katsuki especially, the end of term tests and assessments were really kicking his ass. He studied like usual, but the revision for all the assessments coming up took so much of his time. His schedule had been altered to fit in more time to study, and less time to sleep. It would pay off in the long term, especially when he took his tests next week, but for now he was fucking tired.
He rested his head against the pole, eyes trained on the smudged window. The passing buildings and streets were mostly empty, juxtapositioning the crowded train. The city was always painted in soft colours at this time of day: white walls tinted a pinkish sort of gold by the morning light, buildings missing their usual shadows. It was nicer, really, and Katsuki was glad he got to see it like this, despite the fucking tiresome hour. He’d moved houses only a couple of months ago, away from his childhood home and shitty Deku, to a new apartment in the centre of the city. It was nearer to the hag’s work, and in turn further away from UA. Unsurprisingly, the commute had turned out to be somewhat of a bitch. A fifteen minute walk to the train station, two trains, the first one at 6:10, the second at 7:15, and then a bus to school from the station. It was a lot, especially compared to his old trip to school, which had been a five minute walk and then a fifteen minute bus journey.
Shitty Deku was lucky, still in the same neighbourhood and with Katsuki’s old commute instead of a fucking two hour one. One of the only good things to come of the move was that his chances of bumping into Deku outside of school had been reduced. Still, he wouldn’t be surprised if the nerd had already tried to find the new apartment he was living in, he’d always been a bit stalker-like.
Katsuki’s little sister had changed nurseries entirely. Her new nursery school was only a five minute walk from the apartment, completely surrounded by tall office buildings and grey skyscrapers. She’d cried into his chest when she first found out about the move, dampening Katsuki’s shirt with tears. It was a little dramatic, but Hanna was shy, and she’d already made friends in her old class. Katsuki was left shushing her as she sobbed, muttering something about making new friends, hoping that he was saying the right things. He’d held her until she cried herself to sleep, and in the morning she was more excited about the change than sad, which he counted as a success. Besides, Katsuki had tomorrow off school, and Friday was the start of Hanna’s summer holiday, which meant a full day together. That had cheered her up more than anything, and she’d smiled while he walked her to school.
The train stuttered to a quiet stop, and the passengers around him began to get up, tucking away phones and shrugging on jackets. Katsuki almost blinked in surprise at the sight of the station. His watch read 7, and he made his way to the now open doors on slightly unsteady legs. His next train was in ten minutes, and he fastened his pace, pulling his backpack up around his shoulders and nudging his way through the crowded station. The ground felt strange beneath his feet, different from the rocking of the train, but he kept up the pace, pushing past people on his way to the next platform. School started in an hour and fifteen minutes, and he wasn’t about to be late.
~
‘Quiet.’
Aizawa’s voice interrupted the chattering of the class, and Katsuki looked up from where he had been glaring at the table, pointedly ignoring stupid Kaminari’s attempts to drag him into a conversion about mario cart. It was the last hour of the day, and their final lesson had been cut ten minutes short so that Mr Aizawa could tell them about tomorrow. The teacher pushed his way through the door and pulled his scarf down a little, placing his bag on the table at the front. The class simmered down, and Mr Aizawa sighed, leaning heavily against the dark wood of his desk.
‘As you all know, tomorrow is parent’s day,’ The teacher started, and Katsuki scoffed. Parent’s day was fucking stupid, he had no interest in meeting anyone’s parents, and he wasn’t bringing his. The day was pointless, but luckily students who weren’t bringing their parents got the day off for study leave. He had all of tomorrow free from school, and Hanna had been excited about it for the entire week.
Mr Aizawa sent him a look for his scoff, and cleared his throat before continuing. ‘You are all welcome to bring in your parents or guardians, so that they can observe your lessons for the day and talk to your teachers. The timetable for tomorrow will be slightly different. The first lesson of the day will be maths as usual, but the second lesson will be cleared and replaced by an introductory morning, where your parents will have a five minute one-on-one meeting with me. During this hour there will be no work, but you are expected to stay in this classroom with your parents, so perhaps introduce yourselves to each other's families. The rest of the one-on-one meetings will be during lunch, so be prepared to miss your break, I definitely will be.’ Mr Aizawa finished with another sigh, as if the thought of interacting with parents physically pained him, and sat down at his desk.
An excited chatter filled the room, and Katsuki slouched lower in his chair, staring hard at the scratched wood of his table. He hadn’t told his mum about tomorrow, but he had tried with his dad. The man had hurriedly replied with a no, saying that he was too busy, but looking almost teary as he apologised. ‘Besides, you have to look after Hanna, her school finishes early this week, and if you can get the day off, you need to take it. I am sorry, though, really Katsuki.’ He’d said it almost unsurely, as if he was convincing himself that he was apologetic, and Katsuki had shouted something that made him hide away in his study. He’d felt bad about it after, the guilt gnawing at his insides, climbing up his ribcage like a solid being, but what was he meant to do? Say sorry for being upset that neither of his parents liked him enough to spend one day talking to his teachers? No, he wasn’t weak or desperate enough to apologise for that, and his Dad should be man enough to argue back. Afterall, the hag surely didn’t have a problem with that.
‘Hey, Bakugou! Tomorrow’s going to be great! No lesson in the morning, an excuse to talk, and I can’t wait to introduce you to my parents!’ Kirishima’s voice shocked him out of his self pitying, and he stared up at the boy, who’d managed to squeeze himself right in front of Katsuki’s desk, with a scowl.
‘Whatever, Shitty Hair, I’m not coming in.’
Kirishima’s face fell, and Katsuki looked away, guilt tugging at his insides again.
‘What do you mean? You never miss school!’ He sounded concerned, his eyes searching Katsuki’s face as he leaned up against his desk.
‘My parents aren’t coming, and that means I get the day off for study leave. Did you even read the email school sent, idiot?’ He glared up at Kirishima, watching as the other boy’s mouth tugged into a little frown.
‘Oh, yeah I forgot about that,’ He looked upset, for reasons Katsuki couldn’t comprehend, his shoulders slumping. ‘Man, I was so looking forward to showing you to my parents.’
Katsuki snorted. ‘Why the fuck would you be excited about that?’
He genuinely had no clue why Kirishima would be looking forward to that. Probably every other person in class 1-A would have avoided introducing him to their families, scared of his temper or that he would say something shitty to their parents. It wasn’t an uncalled for worry, Katsuki knew that, which made it all the more strange that Kirishima was looking forward to it.
‘What do you mean? You’re super manly, bro, I’ve told my parents about our sparring and stuff, they were really excited to meet you!’ His voice was all happy again, and he leaned forward onto Katsuki’s desk almost giddily. Katsuki glanced up, and quickly looked away when Kirishima’s eyes met his, his chest twisting at the sincerity in the other boy’s voice.
‘Yeah, well, not going to happen, Dumb Hair.’ His voice came out as more of a mumble than anything, and he felt his face flush. Fuck stupid Kirishima and his need to be so nice all the time.
‘Guess I’ll just have to invite you over for dinner some time, then!’
The other boy hadn’t lost his grin, and rocked back onto the balls of his feet, like a little kid. It made something in Katsuki’s chest ache, like a gnarl growing thorns in his ribcage. He didn’t look up this time, just scoffed, but he could practically feel Kirishima’s smile as he glared at his desk.
Mr Aizawa’s voice interrupted any response the other boy had, and the class quietened as the man cleared his throat.
‘Alright, if you have any questions, ask me at the end’. He made a gesture as if to dismiss them, but stopped halfway through, and opened his mouth again.
‘Oh, and if you were going to take tomorrow off because your parents aren’t able to attend, that’s changed. You still have to come in, it’s the end of term and we will still be doing work tomorrow, just not for the first hour.’
Katsuki sat up abruptly from where he was slumped in his chair, startling Kirishima who was still standing by his desk.
‘What?’ He said it angrily, on the verge of shouting, and he could feel the rest of the class turn to look at him. ‘The email said we wouldn’t have to come in!’
Mr Aizawa shook his head. Katsuki felt rage burning up the inside of his throat, and squeezed his hands into fists in a vain attempt to keep his anger in check.
‘No, Principle Nezu changed that policy this term, so that you don’t miss any lessons.’
Katsuki could sense Kirishima brightening up beside him, but before the boy could say anything, Katsuki was half out of his seat, hands still curled up in anger.
‘Then why the fuck didn’t I get an email about it? I can study at home, it’s a study leave!’ The class had grown even quieter with his outburst, and Kirishima tugged half heartedly at his arm in some sort of effort to calm him down. Katsuki felt like punching him for a quick second, but just shrugged him off roughly, staring intently at Mr Aizawa.
The man pinched the bridge of his nose, and the action made Katsuki’s palms simmer. ‘Language, Bakugou, and you probably received an email about it at some point in the last three hours. If you want to talk to me about it, wait until the end of the lesson.’
Katsuki scowled, but sat down, digging his fingers into the hard wood at the edge of his chair. Fuck Mr Aizawa. Why couldn’t they have told them earlier? Hanna had been waiting all week for tomorrow, and he didn't want to tell her that their day was cancelled. He could just imagine how upset she'd be, lashes wet with tears and lips all wobbly before she cried. Besides, Hanna’s nursery wasn’t on tomorrow, and no one else could look after her. Both his parents worked all day, and Katsuki usually looked after her anyway, he wasn’t even sure he wanted her alone with the hag or his dad for an entire day. There wasn’t anyone else he could call, if he was desperate he would usually call Auntie Inko, but she would be coming to school tomorrow anyway. He couldn’t leave a four year old alone for five minutes, and definitely not an entire school day. He had to talk to Mr Aizawa at the end of the lesson.
The rest of the class had stopped staring at him, and instead began packing up their things as Mr Aizawa motioned that they could leave for the day. The door to the classroom opened and closed as each person filed out, creating a flashing effect as the light was let in, and then shut out, again and again. Kirishima turned to face him, and patted his shoulder lightly.
‘Hey, I guess that means you will be meeting my parents tomorrow!’ He seemed unbothered by Katsuki’s fit of rage, but then again, it wasn’t like he was unused to it. Katsuki looked up at him, eyes focused on the side of his face where the light from the door cast a spherical shape high on his cheekbone, that disappeared every few seconds and then reappeared just as fast. It made Kirishima’s skin look glowing, and Katsuki swallowed. He turned away, grabbing his bag from under his desk.
‘Shut up, Dumb Hair.’
Kirishima just laughed, turning to leave. ’But hey man, if you need to talk about things or whatever, you can always call me.’ His voice was suddenly softer, and Katsuki sat momentarily stunned by his words. Talk about things? What things? His shitty parents not coming to Parent’s Day? Kirishima had offered to ‘talk about things’ more than once, and every single time Katsuki had told him to fuck off. But this time felt different, and the words died in his mouth. He sat racking his brain for something to say, just staring up at the other boy, eyebrows scrunched together. And before he could even think of a reply, Kirishima was already walking away.
‘And, I won’t forget you didn't turn down my dinner invitation, no take backs!’ He called as he hurried to the door, grinning stupidly. Katsuki rolled his eyes, ignoring the warm, heavy feeling settling in his stomach, and turned to stand by Mr Aizawa’s desk.
~
Annoyingly, Deku and Todoroki were also waiting to speak with the teacher, who stretched tiredly and nodded at Deku, who immediately began rambling.
‘Sir, I was just wondering if it would be fine if my mum came in a bit later? Not really late or anything, probably just before lunch, maybe? She has a shift at work in the morning and she can’t get off it, but she can definitely make it later on and I was just wondering if that was ok because-’ He was cut off halfway through by Mr Aizawa who held up his hand and sighed.
‘Yes, Midoriya, that’s fine. I’ll reschedule her one-on-one meeting with me so that it’s after school, instead of in the morning.’ Deku practically beamed, and Katsuki scoffed. That stupid nerd was pleased with just about anything.
‘Thank you Sensei! I’ll see you tomorrow. Bye Todoroki, bye Kacchan!’ He darted out of the room before Katsuki had the chance to tell him to fuck off, so he settled for just glaring intently at the door.
The classroom was empty now that Deku had left, leaving just him, Sensei and Half n Half standing in the quiet room. Outside the door, he could make out Deku standing with that girl who had the floating quirk, smiling at whatever she was saying. Behind him, Sero was wrapping his tape around Kaminari’s arm like a bandage, while the idiot pretended to be a mummy, and Mina and Kirishima hid from him like they were scared. He almost wanted to bang his head against the wall. They were all so fucking stupid.
His staring was interrupted by a monotone voice.
‘Sensei, I know tomorrow is Parent’s Day, but I would like to bring my older sister.’
Katsuki turned to Todoroki, blinking in surprise. The icy-hot bastard’s face gave absolutely nothing away, but his hands were clenched into fists by his sides, and Katsuki could tell that maybe tomorrow was something of an irritation to Todoroki, too. Mr Aizawa’s face seemed to soften at Half n Half’s statement, and he nodded, scarf riding up a little.
‘It’s a day for your parents or guardians. That’s whether they are your legal guardian, or just the adult you feel most comfortable with. As long as your sister is happy to come, I see no reason why she shouldn’t.’
Katsuki wondered quietly if Endeavour had refused to come, or if Half n Half hadn’t even asked him. He knew Todoroki didn’t like his father, he’d seen him staring after Endeavour at the Sports Festival, his mouth set in an angry line, eyes hard. He couldn’t blame him, really. The man seemed like an asshole, and was probably worse when there was no press watching. Todoroki visibly relaxed at Mr Aizawa’s words, and Katsuki felt something that maybe wasn’t anger stirring in his chest at the sight. At least he wasn’t the only one with shit parents.
Todoroki then nodded, and bowed to their teacher, hair falling into his face. ‘Thank you, Sensei.’ His voice was quiet, soft enough that Katsuki struggled to hear him over the sound of his shoes as he left to get his bag from his desk. He watched the boy walk past, the white side of his hair catching in the light from the window. The quiet sounds of him opening his bag and filling it with his notes and pens softened the silence of the classroom.
‘Alright, Bakugou, what is it.’
Katsuki looked away, and turned to glare at the wall behind Mr Aizawa’s head. His teacher stared up at him from his seat, probably attempting to catch his eye, but Katsuki kept his gaze on white paint. ‘I can’t come in tomorrow.’
He could see Mr Aizawa’s eyebrows raise from the corner of his eye, but he continued to pointedly stare past him.
‘And why’s that, exactly?’
Katsuki growled. ‘Well, I was under the impression that because my parents weren’t coming, I got tomorrow off, and made plans that I can’t back out on.’ Ok, so maybe that was a bit vague, but he wasn’t telling his teacher that he was supposed to be babysitting.
‘Right, and what are those plans?’
Shit. What could he say? He could still hear that stupid Icy-Hot idiot in the backround shuffling his paper and taking the longest time in the world to pack up his bag and leave. He racked his brain for some excuse that sounded plausible, but before he could spit one out, he was interrupted.
‘Although, what plans could you have, when you were going to be on study leave?’ Mr Aizawa’s voice was almost sarcastic, and Katsuki grit his teeth. Surely his teacher knew better than anyone that he didn’t slack off his school work. He consistently got high grades, and had recently bumped himself up to second place in the academic standings. Iida had practically gone into shock about being kicked down to third place, gawking like an idiot when Mr Aizawa read through the test scores. Katsuki had almost laughed at four eyes’ face, but Deku had ruined the moment by attempting to congratulate him.
Aizawa was still staring at him expectantly, and Todoroki still hadn’t fucking left. Katsuki closed his eyes briefly.
‘I have to look after my sister.’ He said it like it hurt to admit, which it currently did, with how hard he was digging his nails into his palms. Todoroki stopped shuffling things for a second, and Katsuki’s hands sparked. The teacher just stared, and opened his mouth for a few seconds before responding.
‘Oh.’
‘What do you fucking mean, ‘oh’?’ He spat out, stepping forward towards the desk. ‘No one else is free to look after her, and I can’t bring her to school, can I?’
‘Language,’ Mr Aizawa replied, almost mildly, and then paused. ‘You could.’
Katsuki balked. ‘What?’
‘Bring her to school, if you have too. We have an important practical lesson tomorrow, and I wouldn’t want you to miss it when you could just bring her in and solve the problem.’ He said it calmly, like it was normal, and all Katsuki could do was stare.
The sound of the door opening echoed through the room, and Todoroki uttered an awkward ‘goodbye’ before disappearing. Katsuki was still staring.
Mr Aizawa, got up, a bit suddenly, and began packing things away and into his bag.
‘Please hurry up your thinking process, Bakugou, I have a staff meeting to go to, unfortunately.’
Katsuki blinked. Bring Hanna to school? He hadn’t even considered that an option, but apparently it was perfectly normal for his teacher to suggest. Could he even say no? As stupid as the solution sounded, he didn’t want to miss an important lesson, especially if it was a practical. That meant maybe learning a new fighting technique, something that would put his classmates above him if he missed. He also couldn't leave Hanna at home, and if there was no one around to take care of her, what could he do? Fuck, there was no way around this.
‘Fine.’ He practically spat out the word, and reached down to grab his bag, maybe still in a slight state of shock. He could hear Mr Aizawa zipping up his own bag behind him, tucking his chair in, and making a small sound of disgust at the ugly scraping noise it made against the floor. Katsuki turned to the door, but Aizawa’s voice stopped him.
‘Any reason your parents aren’t coming, kid?’
His tone was gentler than before, like the one he’d used when Todoroki had asked to bring his own sister. Probably pity, and it made Katsuki feel a bit sick. He hunched his shoulders up higher, twisting his hands around the straps of his backpack. He didn’t turn to face him, instead stepping closer to the door.
‘They’re busy.’ He said it bluntly, reaching out to twist the door handle. Mr Aizawa hummed behind him, and Katsuki could sense his eyes on his back.
‘Alright, see you tomorrow then, Bakugou.’ His voice was quiet, and Katsuki swallowed, stepping out of the classroom and closing the door behind him.
The corridor windows showcased the vast blue sky, the colour deeper than it had been this morning, dotted with wispy clouds that looked almost like they had been spray painted on. He stared up for a second, before turning on his feet, heading towards the exit. Fuck.
Chapter 2: summer rain
Notes:
wow these past three days i've been more productive than in about a year lmaooo. this chapter is a lot shorter than the first one, i tried to make it less lengthy bc apparently my special talent is dragging on really dull scenes for like seven paragraphs and not realising :). this is hanna's introduction though, so i hope you guys find it cute hahaha

Chapter Text
On the train back from UA, it rained. The weather had pulled a 360, and the once blue sky was now shrouded with rain clouds that hung heavy and shadowy above the city. It was still warm, the cool summer breeze from the morning making way for a more humid heat; the air in the train hot and dense like honey. Katsuki sat facing the window, watching as rain dashed against the glass, smudging his view of the grey streets.
He was still in a slight state of shock, honestly, and the soft whirring of the tracks beneath the carriage made him feel strangely separate from his body. Today had been strange. Stupid Shitty Hair had been unreasonably nice, like usual, and this time Katsuki had just … felt different. He couldn’t quite grasp how Kirishima had left him feeling, but the warm weight at the bottom of his stomach was still there, and making him feel a bit sick. Besides that, probably everyone in the class now knew that his parents weren’t coming to parent’s day, and he fucking hoped that none of them had decided to pity him. Mr Aizawa probably did, in the same way he pitied Todoroki, and Katsuki didn’t want to be compared to Half n Half ever, especially not now. And then, to top it all off, he was taking his sister into school tomorrow. His four year old sister. His four year old sister who absolutely no one in Class-1A knew about, besides fucking Deku.
He sighed heavily, and turned to glare down at his feet. After school, he only had to take one train, and his journey was shorter than that of his morning commute. It was a faster train than the normal ones, seeing as it only stopped at one station. Because he lived right in the centre of the city, the station near his apartment was the sole destination for many of the trains that left the station near UA. It made his trip home an hour (with a fifteen minute walk back from the station), on a good day - which today was not shaping out to be. The thunderstorm had delayed his train by fifteen minutes, and Katsuki was due to pick up Hanna from nursery at half 4, which currently looked pretty fucking unlikely.
Hanna’s preschool finished at 3, same as UA, but she had to go to an after school club so that Katsuki could pick her up. It ran until 4:20, but weirdly, she didn’t mind it. She’d swung their joined hands as he walked her to school in the morning, chattering excitedly about building a cardboard castle after school, face flushed from forgetting to breathe properly while describing her building plans in great detail. It almost made Katsuki wish he were four again, propping up cardboard and pretending to fight with Deku, arguing over who was All Might and who was the villain.
He blinked, shaking his head, and almost scoffed into the quiet train carriage at the the thought of feeling nostalgic over time spent with fucking Deku, of all people. The rain was pattering loudly against the train roof, and he glanced at his watch. Shit. It read 4:10, and he still had five minutes left on the train, and a fifteen minute speed walk to Hanna’s nursery. Well, a ten minute run, if he was fast. And Katsuki was always fucking fast.
~
Some God must have decided to help him out in apology for the fucking shitty weather, beacuse he ended up skidding around the corner to Hanna’s nursery at 4:27. He was absolutely drenched, his uniform sticking to his body and hair plastered against his forehead, backpack feeling ten times heavier and completely soaked with rain. He could make out a preschool teacher standing by the gates, Hanna huddled up next to her, standing under the protection of the woman’s umbrella. He slowed his slightly manic sprint down to a jog, panting. Fuck, running through a quarter of the city in seven minutes has been a lot of effort, but he’d made good time.
He exhaled heavily, and two sets of eyes met his from under the umbrella. The woman raised her eyebrows at the state of him, and Hanna’s face lit up. She barreled straight into his legs, fisting her little hands in his drenched trousers and pressed her face into his knee. He snorted, and reached down to run a hand through her wet hair.
The teacher laughed from in front of them, and Katsuki turned his gaze to the woman, who was watching Hanna fondly from under her umbrella.
‘Don’t tell me you ran all the way here,’ She said, smiling like she was pleased about standing in the pouring rain waiting for some kid to be picked up from school. He shrugged, looking back down at Hanna, who’d turned to gaze up at him, grinning stupidly, face framed by blond curls glued to her forehead from the rain.
‘Yeah, well, the train was late.’
The woman laughed again, and turned to pick up her bag that had been lying on the pavement beside her. ‘You UA students are really something else,’ She settled it on her shoulder, and waved at them with a grin. ‘Have a lovely summer, Hanna, I look forward to seeing you next term!’
Hanna turned to wave shyly, and the teacher waved back, her motions blurred by the rain. Katsuki nodded to her as she turned to leave, watching as she pulled the school gate closed behind her. It made an awful creaking noise as it closed, and Hanna let out a little ‘eww’, turning back to look up at Katsuki.
‘You’re late!’ She pointed at him accusingly as she said it, and Katsuki couldn’t help but smile.
‘Yeah, the train was late because of all the rain.’
She didn’t look overly satisfied with his answer, and curled her fingers in his trousers again, thumping her head against his leg. ‘I had to stand in the rain for a really long time, and now my hair is wet,’ She was pouting, and Katsuki groaned, reaching up to rub his eyes. Why were little kids always so dramatic? He was the one who’d had to sprint like a madman in the rain for seven minutes.
‘I know, I know, but how about I make it up to you, brat?’ He said, and she answered with a nod, and then frowned, headbutting his leg again.
‘Yeah! But I’m not a brat!’
Katsuki rolled his eyes, and Hanna suddenly let go of his leg, practically trembling with excitement, waving her hands about frantically. ‘Are you going to use your quirk to fly me all the way home, Kat? It would be really, really fun! And it would be faster than walking!’ Katsuki blinked at her, and she nodded earnestly like he’d agreed. ‘I promise I’ll hold on really tight, and then you wouldn’t be scared about dropping me!’
Katsuki blinked again, and then crouched down, so that he was kneeling at the same height as Hanna. She rocked back and forth on the balls of her feet, waiting expectantly as the rain pattered quietly against her coat.
‘As great as that idea is,’ He started slowly, thanking God that she was four and couldn’t understand sarcasm. ‘I think that would be hard in all the rain, and we might crash into a building. However, I have an even better way to make it up to you.’
Hanna stared at him, wide eyed and face streaked with raindrops, and he paused for some sort of dramatic effect. Maybe he should’ve been an actor.
‘What if I take you into my school tomorrow, for the entire day?’
She gasped, and launched herself at him, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck. He smiled into her hair, and grimaced slightly at how damp it was.
‘Really?’ She said, voice filled with awe, and Katsuki wondered briefly if she was going to turn into a little nerd like Deku. They were both equally excited about school. He nodded against her head and she practically squealed, pressing her damp cheek against his collar bone and giggling. He stood up, joints aching, and Hanna clutched her arms around his neck even tighter, little legs kicking to try and wrap around his waist. He settled one arm under her thighs, and pulled her sideways a bit, so she sat in his arms comfortably, and nodded again.
‘Yeah, you’re coming in with me tomorrow, brat.’
‘Wow! It’s going to be so much fun!’
Katsuki wasn’t convinced.

Chapter Text
The rain had stopped by morning, and Katsuki’s room was tinted a light pink by the sunrise when he pulled open his curtains. It was early, but he was used to it, and he’d already prepared for the day. His clothes lay on his desk, Hanna’s own set folded up neatly next to his tie. Sat beside his backpack was a smaller bag, black with little pink skulls decorating the outside. He smiled into his hand at the sight of it, and carefully pushed it aside to get to his uniform.
Hanna had spent a lot more time than was probably necessary picking out her outfit for today, and Katsuki had endured what felt like a lifetime of her incessant chatter as she had shown him her clothes. She’d originally wanted to wear her nursery uniform so that she looked ‘smart and put together’, a phrase she was parroting from one of the fashion shows Mitsuki made her sit through whenever they were together. Probably the only valuable lesson the hag had taught Hanna was the art of picking out a nice outfit, the woman was a model, after all.
However, her school uniform was damp from the rain, so she’d picked out a denim dress with a lilac top to wear underneath. She'd folded it up shabbily, and set it next to Katsuki’s own uniform, before he’d subtly re-organised her slightly dodgy pile. It had been a busy evening, but later, when it was dark and the rain was only a soft pattering against the windows, Katsuki had sat carefully braiding Hanna’s hair in the dim light of his room. She’d leaned heavily against his legs, settled quietly on the floor in front of his bed as he twisted her curls together, eyelids drooping. He’d carried her to bed, after, and she’d curled up straight away, eyes closed and little hands twisted lightly in the duvet.
He’d die before admitting to plaiting Hanna’s hair, but the way she turned to look up at him after he’d finished, with tired eyes but a sleepy smile, meant he didn’t really hate it. Warmth had spread through him, seeping in through his fingertips and curling around his bones like some sort of ivy; blooming at his joints and leaving him rolling his eyes to hide a smile. Fuck, at this rate he was going to turn into fucking Deku, being all soft like this.
He shook the memory from his head, and slid the homework sheets on his desk into his bag. The sun cast streaks of golden light around his room, and he yawned, dropping his bag to start down the hallway. Hanna’s door was slightly ajar, and he pushed it open, revealing her curled up and still fast asleep under her blankets. Her blonde hair peeked out from the mess of blankets, her eyes screwed shut, face relaxed. He sighed, guilt stirring in his stomach in the same way it always did when he woke her up in the mornings. It was still so early, and he always felt like shit for dragging her out of bed. Still, she’d been pretty fucking excited yesterday about coming in to UA, so maybe getting up wouldn’t seem like a bad thing.
Unsurprisingly, Katsuki was correct. He gently shook her awake, and after a minute of blinking in a tired sort of surprise, she shot up, sitting excitedly on her mussed bed covers. He almost laughed at the stupid grin on her face, but instead got back up from where he’d been kneeling. He crossed her room, and yanked open her curtains.
‘Oww! You’re making me blind!’ She rushed to cover her eyes, shouting dramatically, and Katsuki snorted.
‘Yeah, well, if you’re blind then you probably won’t be able to come to school with me.’ He said, and she immediately pulled her hands away from her face, blinking at the sudden brightness, and shaking her head.
‘Nevermind, I can see again!’
‘Yeah, that’s not how blindness works, but it’s time to get ready, brat.’
She nodded enthusiastically. ‘Yeah! Let’s get ready! For UA!’
Katsuki sighed and nodded, albeit a lot more reluctantly. Fuck, he was really bringing his little sister to UA: to a class full of idiots and a school full of nosey extras. No one was ever going to let him forget this. Especially not the group of imbeciles that followed him around and had even given themselves some stupid name, ‘BakuClub’ or ‘BakuSquad’ or something equally as idiotic. Oh God, Mina was going to take so many photos. He practically shuddered at the thought, as Hanna pottered around her room, humming to herself and completely oblivious to his current internal breakdown.
‘I can’t wait!’ She giggled, suddenly turning to latch onto Katsuki’s arm. ‘Why can’t time go quicker? I really, really want to see All Might! And the other heroes! Do you think they’ll all be there?’
Blinking himself out of his thoughts, Katsuki turned to pull gently at the end of one of Hanna’s plaits, smiling as she squawked indignantly. ‘Well, brat,’ He started, and she batted his arm lightly at the name. ‘I’m not sure that all the heroes will be there, but I know All Might will.’
She gasped, swinging her arms like she couldn’t contain her excitement. Katsuki rolled his eyes, watching her fondly. ‘Are you sure? Wow, now I really, really can’t wait!’ She said, staring up at him with wide eyes. She opened her mouth, as if to say more, but then shut it, casting her eyes downwards suddenly. Her little fingers uncurled from around Katsuki’s wrist and she stepped back, wringing her hands together.
Her chatter stopped, and Katsuki’s brows furrowed. What the fuck? Hadn’t she been excited about All Might literally two seconds ago? He watched her in confusion for a second, before reaching down to take her hand in his. She didn’t pull away, and looked up at him, her red eyes suddenly watery. Something stirred in Katsuki’s gut, and he crouched down, taking her other hand too.
‘Hey, what’s wrong?’ He said, in the softest voice he could muster, watching as she blinked tears down her cheeks.
‘I just -’ She started, sniffling quietly. ‘Do you think they’ll like me?’
He stared. Like her? Who?
‘What do you mean, Han?’ He asked gently, and she glanced up at him, her cheeks wet.
‘The heroes? And all your friends? And, and All Might?’ She said quietly, already looking back at the floor as if she expected him to say no. He sighed, and reached out to tuck a loose curl behind her ear.
‘Hanna,’ He started carefully. ‘Everyone at UA will love you. Definitely the heroes, and especially All Might. And if they don’t, I’ll just beat them up.’ She laughed at that, rocking forward a little.
Okay, so maybe he wasn’t completely sure Aizawa Sensei would know what to do with a four year old, but he would hopefully still like her, right? And he could already imagine Present Mic's reaction to Hanna: loud and much too enthusiastic. And All Might? Well, the man had to deal with Deku’s fanboying on a daily basis, so he could definitely manage an excited kid for a couple of hours. And if they didn’t like her? Well, he’d just promised to fight them, and Katsuki never went back on his promises. Especially not ones to Hanna.
‘You can’t beat up All Might!’ She gasped, and then paused, looking thoughtful. ‘And what about your friends, will they like me?’
Katsuki stilled from where he was wiping the tears from Hanna’s face, nodding a little. It took every ounce of his self control not to outright laugh at the word ‘friends’, but somehow he managed to keep a straight face.
‘Yes, they’re idiots, but I’m sure my friends will like you, too.’
~
Kirishima had seen many things in his life, but he didn’t think he’d ever seen something as strange as this. In fact, he’d pinched himself on the arm hard enough to yelp, just to make sure he wasn’t imagining it.
Standing in Class-1A’s doorway was Bakugou, and by his side was a child. A child who wasn’t cowering in fear, but instead holding his hand. Bakugou’s hand. A child. Holding his hand. All Kirishima could do was gape.
The classroom was noisy, filled with students and their families, but when the door creaked open, an awed hush seemed to blanket the room. Not everyone was here yet, but several heads still turned, and Kirishima watched from the corner of his eye as his classmates all did a double take. Next to him, Sero sputtered, hands held up in shock, and Momo blinked slowly, as if trying to erase a hallucination.
The parents were watching the scene unfold, confusion visible in the way Iida’s mum’s eyebrows furrowed, and Sato’s dad shrugged when asked what was going on. They resumed their chat, albeit more quietly, as their children stood practically paralysed.
‘What are you extras looking at?’
Bakugou’s growl snapped him out of his reverie, and Kirishima’s theory that the boy had been replaced by a clone was proven wrong. Bakugou raised his eyebrows expectantly, and the class was still silent. Kirishima went to answer, but ended up just opening and closing his mouth, gesturing weakly with his hands.
‘Dude, you can’t just kidnap kids!’ Kaminari’s whisper-shout beat him to it, and Bakugou scoffed, stepping through the door and tugging the little girl with him.
‘Shut it, Dunce Face,’ he half-shouted, hair falling into his eye as he pushed past Shoji and Hagakure. ‘She’s my sister, not some random kid.’
‘You - what?’ Kirishima started, blinking in surprise. Sister? Bakugou had a sister?
‘Since when did you have a sister?’ Kaminari was stuck staring at the pair, eyes wide and gesturing almost frantically. ‘Dude, why didn’t you tell us? I think I’m going into shock!’
Bakugou just rolled his eyes, leaning down towards the little girl.
‘See, I told you they were idiots, didn’t I?’ He muttered next to her ear, loud enough for everyone to still hear. A few people let out indignant ‘hey!’’s, but Kirishima was still too busy staring in surprise to be offended.
His sister giggled at the remark, leaning sideways to bump the side of her head against Bakugou’s. Mina let out a little cooing sound, while Urakaka practically squealed - clasping her hands together excitedly. The little girl’s eyes widened and she stepped back, reaching up her free hand to clutch at Bakugou’s trouser leg. The boy stood himself upright, face set in his usual scowl, and waved a hand at the crowd in front of him.
‘Alright, get out the way, losers.’
The little huddle began to part, but Mina cried out like she was in pain, stepping out in front of him with her hands out.
‘What, no! You can’t just turn up here with your adorable little sister and not even introduce us!’
Kirishima blinked at the outcry, but then nodded enthusiastically. ‘Yeah man, c’mon!’
Bakugou looked between the two of them, face screwed up like the exchange was physically paining him. Kirishima could almost feel the rest of the class drawing in bated breaths, watching with wide eyes. Even his sister turned to look up at him, eyes big and expectant. After a while, Bakugou let out a long-suffering sigh.
‘Christ, fine!’
Mina clapped her hands together in glee, and an excited buzz filled the air. Bakugou’s sister glanced around, her brows furrowed in confusion, hand still fisted tightly in the boy’s trouser leg.
Now that Kirishima was no longer in a state of shock, he realised that it was kinda stupid he hadn’t noticed she was his sister to begin with. He stared at the two of them, brows knitting together. They looked similar; sharing the same crimson eyes, and fluffy blond hair. Bakugou would probably commit homicide if he heard Kirishima describe his hair as ‘fluffy’, but the little tufts of hair at the end of the girl’s braids looked so soft - in the same way Bakugou’s hair did. They even had the same smattering of light brown freckles across their noses, something Bakugou venomously denied having. They were cute, and Kirsihima had choked the first time he’d noticed them on Bakugou’s face, turning completely red as he spat water directly into the other boy’s lap. It had earned him an explosion to the face, and some pretty brutal swearing.
Bakugou’s voice snapped him out of his staring, and Kirishima looked down to see Mina crouched on the floor, smiling brightly at the little girl.
‘Alright, Racoon Eyes, this is Hanna.’ Bakugou said bluntly. ‘Hanna, this is Raccoon Eyes.’
Mina rolled her eyes, but still smiled, waving at Hanna. ‘Hi Hanna! My name’s actually Mina, your brother just gave me a silly nickname because of my eyes, if you couldn’t tell!’
Hanna waved back shyly from where she hid behind Bakugou’s legs, swinging their joined hands. Kirishima felt his chest tighten at the sight, and he repressed a coo, watching as Bakugou squeezed her little hand gently. It took his entire being to not just collapse at how sweet they looked, and he heard Jiro make a choked sound from behind him. Bakugou was still scowling, but his eyes had softened slightly as he looked down at his sister. Kirishima twisted his fingers together, lips tugging into a smile at the sight.
Hanna suddenly stepped forward, eyes wide. ‘You’re pink!’ She gasped, voice small and excited, and Bakugou snorted. Meanwhile, Mina looked like she was about to pass out from nodding her head excitedly. Hanna blinked at her in awe, rocking back on her heels giddily.
‘Is it your quirk? Or are you just really, really good at makeup?’ She asked, and Mina laughed.
‘Yeah, it’s part of my quirk! I think it would probably take the whole day to put on if it were makeup!’
Hanna nodded excitedly. ‘Wow, that’s so cool!’ She started, and Mina looked up at Bakugou smugly, who just scoffed, rolling his eyes. ‘What’s the rest of your quirk?’
‘Well,’ Mina said, and Hanna looked at her expectantly, eyes wide and excited. ‘I can expel acid out of my hands. Do you know what acid is?’
Hanna nodded, and Mina’s eyebrows raised in surprise. ‘Huh, you’re smart! Even I didn’t really know what acid was when I was little. How old are you?’
Hanna held up four fingers. ‘I’m almost five!’
That made Bakugou snort, and he shook his head, causing Hanna to look up at him indignantly.
‘What? I am!’ She said, and Kirishima laughed into his hand, watching as the class stared at the two. Iida had taken off his glasses in shock, and was rubbing his eyes like he was imagining the whole thing. Uraraka stood behind him, hand still pressed over her mouth to contain her cooing.
‘Yeah, I don’t think being 8 months away from five counts as nearly five, brat.’
‘It does!’
‘No, 2 months away is nearly five, 8 months away means you're closer to three.’
Hanna squeaked in frustration, and opened her mouth to reply, but was cut off by a shout. She turned to look at Kaminari in shock, who’d shoved Mina to the side, and was crouching down next to Hanna, in Mina’s old space.
‘Ok, ok my turn!’ He said, and Mina gasped in faux anger, batting his arm, while Hanna stared at the two in surprise. ‘I’m Kaminari, but you can call me Denki!’
‘Hi!’ Hanna squeaked, backing away a little at the site of Mina lying on the floor and Kaminari crouched so close. Bakugou muttered something along the lines of ‘stupid idiots’ and flicked the side of Kaminari’s head, making the the other boy squawk. Kirishima shook his head, hiding a smile as Kaminari waved at Hanna, his blond hair falling into his eyes.
‘I’m definitely Bakubro’s favourite, which means I’m your favourite now, too!’ Kaminari said, and Kirishima let out an indignant ‘Hey!’ before he could stop himself, moving to stand in front of Bakugou.
‘Ok, no,’ He started, also kneeling down to smile at Hanna in a way that he hoped was non-threatening. ‘I’m Bakubro’s favourite! And my name’s Kirishima, before he has you calling me Dumb Hair or Sharky.’
Bakugou’s free hand sparked next to his head, and he ignored it in favour of grinning at Hanna, who stared at him with wide, scared eyes. He blinked, and scooted back a little. Ok, maybe the non-threatening smile hadn’t worked. Was he scaring her? Bakugou would definitely kill him if he scared his little sister as soon as they met! What should he do?
Before he could figure out what to say, or whether he should just run and hope Bakugou didn’t chase him - Hanna giggled, clasping a little hand over her mouth. Kaminari choked back an ‘aww’ from beside him, and Kirishima blinked at her in surprise.
‘You have really pointy teeth!’ She managed through her laughs, and Kirishima internally sighed a big breath of relief. His teeth! Of course, that made sense. He grinned again, and Hanna laughed even harder. Her cheeks were flushed pink from giggling and she looked up at Bakugou excitedly, who just rolled his eyes; the corner of his lips tugging up slightly. Kirishima couldn’t help but smile harder at that, his heart thudding against his ribcage, a liquidy and warm feeling settling in his gut.
Hanna managed to choke down her laughter, and she pulled her hand away from her mouth, smiling at Kirishima sweetly. He felt the urge to melt into the floor, suddenly, and smiled back, albeit slightly weakly. How could someone related to Bakugou be so sweet? He kind of wanted to just hug her, but decided against it, mostly for his own safety. Who knows how Bakugou would take that? He opened his mouth, to say something else, but an irritated sigh from above cut him off.
‘Alright, alright this is taking way too long.’ Bakugou grumbled, and shoved at Kirishima with his foot, effectively knocking him back a little. Kaminari skittered out of the way of his own kick, and Kirishima blinked from where he was settled on the ground a little further away. He watched, wide eyed, as Bakugou reached down, scooping Hanna into his arms. She giggled into his collarbone, little arms coming to clutch around his shoulders.
‘Your introductions were a waste of time, try and speed it up next time, extras.’ He growled, as Hanna beamed at the rest of the class from his arms. It ruined his otherwise intimidating tone, and behind him Sero snorted quietly. Bakugou made to push through the rest of the class, but the creak of the classroom door paused him in his steps.
Half the heads in the room turned to the cause of the sound, and a mop of familiar
green hair poked through the doorway.
‘Hey guys!’ Midoriya started, but then paused, brows furrowed in confusion at the crowd near the door, ‘What -’
‘Deku!’ Came a little cry, and Kirishima whipped his head around in surprise at Hanna’s voice. She had her head turned to the door, smiling excitedly, hands still clutched around Bakugou’s neck.
‘Hanna-chan? What are you doing here?’ Midoriya stopped, eyebrows raised at the sight. Kirishima snorted as Bakugou grumbled under his breath, somehow not exploding anything as Hanna practically vibrated with excitement.
‘Kat brought me into school with him!’ The little girl burst out, and Kaminari gasped out loud at the nickname, earning a vicious glare from Bakugou.
‘Bro, we have to steal that.’ He whispered to Kirishima, who laughed, shaking his head.
‘Sorry, but I choose to live.’ He whispered back, and Kaminari slumped a little, muttering under his breath. Kirishima shrugged in apology, and turned back to where Midoriya was smiling up at Hanna, Bakugou glaring daggers at him.
Deku laughed, slightly nervously, eyes flitting up to Bakugou as he spoke to Hanna.
‘Wow that’s great! I bet you're excited to see all the heroes, right?’
Hanna let out an enthusiastic little ‘Yeah!’, and Midoriya smiled at her gently, before wringing his hands together. Kirishima watched him glance up at Bakugou, who scowled - making Deku jump. He looked awkward, standing there as Bakugou glowered at him, preoccupied with an armful of excited Hanna. Pity gnawed at his insides, and Kirishima cleared his throat, pushing himself up off the ground to smile brightly at the smaller boy.
‘Midoriya! I didn’t know you knew Hanna.’ He said, hoping to break some of the tension.
‘O-oh yeah!’ Midoriya laughed in surprise, rubbing the back of his neck. ‘My mum looks after Hanna sometimes, when Kacchan’s busy.’
‘Yeah, Auntie Inko always lets me play on her computer!’ Hanna says, smiling at Kirishima brightly. It made his heart twist in his chest, and he smiled back at her, just as brightly. He glanced up at Bakugou, who looked entirely unimpressed with their conversation. The boy shifted his arms a little, and Hanna leaned her head up against his chest, looking at the rest of the class with her face pressed up against Bakugou’s torso. She tightened her arms around his shoulders, pressing herself heavily against his chest. Bakugou looked down at her, the angry crease between his brows smoothing out, his eyes softening at the corners.
Kirishima watched, trying to force the smile off his face, the warmth in his chest pushing hard against his ribcage. He almost felt like choking, some unidentified feeling crawling up his throat and wrapping around his airway, leaving him beaming stupidly. He’d never seen Bakugou like this: almost calm. Well, maybe calm was too strong a word to use, but he wasn’t actively blowing anybody up, and for Bakugou, that was as calm as it got. And, he was standing in front of their class, a child curled up in his arms, an almost soft expression gracing his features. It made Kirishima want to whip out his phone and take a picture, but then the moment would be ruined.
Instead, he just stared, still smiling. Some of the class had slowly begun to drift away, a few people making their way back to their parents, but for the most part, everybody still stood watching, eyes wide. It felt almost fake, and (not for the first time today) Kirishima wondered idly if he was dreaming. The light from the window was painting streaky patterns on the walls, casting golden light over Bakugou’s face. It made him look almost ethereal, and Kirishima blinked, watching as he shifted slightly to escape the bright light. Kirishima swallowed heavily, his chest twisting almost restrictedly.
A loud creak from the door ruined the moment, and Kirishima almost wanted to slam it shut. He sighed, feeling a little disappointed, but turned his smile towards the figures entering the classroom. It was Todoroki, followed by a woman, her hair the same two colours as Todoroki’s. She looked young, much too young to be his mother, and Kirishima titled his head a little, furrowing his brows in confusion. In front of him, Bakugou groaned, irritated, at the sight of the other boy, and Hanna sat up a little in his arms. Todoroki stopped short, eyes snapping towards Bakugou, and the woman stumbled a little to avoid crashing into his back.
‘Oh,’ He said, voice neutral. ‘You do have a sister.’
Kirishima let out a confused ‘Huh?’, as Todoroki stared blankly at Bakugou. How did Todoroki, of all people, know about Hanna?
Bakugou made an angry growling noise, and narrowed his eyes. ‘What, did you think I was lying, Half ‘n Half?’
Todoroki shrugged passively, and Kirishima watched as Deku nervously glanced between the two boys. ‘S-so, how did you know about Hanna-chan, Todoroki-kun?’ He asked, awkwardly.
Bakugou rolled his eyes, opening his mouth before Todoroki could respond. ‘Icy-Hot here wouldn’t fucking leave when Aizawa was telling me to bring Hanna in yesterday,’ He said, and then turned his eyes towards Midoriya. ‘Not that it’s any of your business, Deku.’
Deku nodded hurriedly, and Mina gasped loudly behind him. Bakugou turned to look at her, and she crossed her arms, frowning.
‘You shouldn’t swear in front of her, Bakugou!’ She said, and Kirishima raised his eyebrows, almost congratulating her bravery. She seemed to realise what she’d said, and her frown changed into a sheepish smile as Bakugou glared at her. Before he could respond, Hanna turned in his arms, facing herself towards Mina.
‘It’s ok!’ She chirped. ‘I already know all of the swear words!’
Mina raised her eyebrows and opened her mouth, but Bakugou let his free hand erupt into sparks, silencing anything else the girl had to say. Hanna giggled, reaching down to grab at his wrist, pulling her brother’s hand towards her. Kirishima almost choked, and Shoji took half a step forward, almost as if to intervene. Momo had similar ideas, and extended a hand, eyes big and worried as the little girl tapped Bakugou’s chest, releasing his hand to let it rest against her thigh.
‘Do it again!’ She demanded, eyes focused intently on Bakugou’s hand. Kirishima had to bite back a cry of surprise as the other boy merely sighed, exasperated, and let a shower of little sparks dance across the skin of his palm. Hanna watched, eyes wide in awe, before she clapped excitedly, staring up at Bakugou with an expression that was so sweet Kirishima almost felt like he was intruding.
‘So pretty,’ She murmured, and Kirishima swallowed audibly, pushing down the concerns he had felt welling up a minute ago. Beside him, Momo faltered, her arm dropping, and gaze falling to the floor. She looked almost guilty, probably for thinking that Bakugou would do anything to harm Hanna, and Kirishima felt a similar pang in his chest. He knew Bakugou would never do anything to hurt a child, not intentionally. But Hanna was just so small, and Bakugou was always … angry.
Kirishima swallowed down his guilt and watched as Bakugou rolled his eyes. ‘Whatever, brat.’ He mumbled, eyes averted, as he reached back to tug gently at one of Hanna’s plaits. She squealed, smiling, and threw her short arms around his neck again, laughing into his shoulder. Kirishima stared at them, quietly berating himself, before Bakugou raised his eyebrows.
‘The fuck are you all still staring at?’ He snapped, and Deku jumped from in front of him. Everybody shrugged awkwardly, and Kirishima plastered a smile on his face.
‘Nothing man!’ He said, and Bakugou looked at him suspiciously, before turning on his heel and making his way towards his desk. Hanna smiled at them from over his shoulder, and Kirishima waved, watching Bakugou’s retreating form. The scraping noise of a chair being pulled out echoed across the room, and Bakugou slumped into his seat, pulling Hanna down into his lap. Kirishima could see her mouth moving from across the classroom, her hands moving about animatedly as she spoke, looking up at her brother - who nodded along slightly.
Kirishima turned back around to the rest of the class, who stood in various states of shock.
‘That wasn’t what I had expected.’ Todoroki said, monotonous, eyes still focused on Bakugou. Scattered murmurs of agreement met his statement, and Kirishima found himself nodding his head.
‘How is Hanna so cute?’ Urakaka burst out, and Mina nodded in agreement, her forehead wrinkled in confusion.
‘Yeah, how come she’s like that when Bakugou’s… like that?’
More murmurs of agreement followed her question, but Momo shook her head.
‘I don’t know,’ she started, looking down at her hands. ‘I was scared he might hurt her, but he was kind of… sweet.’
Everyone went quiet at that, aside from Midoriya who’s eyes widened in disbelief.
‘Kacchan would never hurt Hanna!’ He said, looking around at the rest of them as if he couldn’t believe the thought had crossed their minds. ‘He’s always sweet with her! Whenever my mum has to look after her, Hanna always talks about him, and she never has anything bad to say. He looks after her all the time! H-he picks her up from school, and helps her with homework and cooks for her and- and he would never ever hurt her!’
He’s teary by the time he’s finished, and Kirishima stares at him in shock. Urakaka carefully rubs Midoriya’s shoulder as he blinks back his tears, and the rest of the class stand quietly, looking slightly ashamed.
‘Yeah, we’re sorry Midoriya, I know Bakubro would never hurt her!’ Kirishima said, fiddling with his hands, guilt gnawing at his insides, ‘I just kinda expected an explosion at some point, you know?’ He ends with a chuckle, and behind him Sero mumbles his agreement.
‘That’s ok, Kirishima-kun, I know how close you are with Kacchan,’ Deku replied, clearing the thickness from his voice. Kirishima’s chest tightened and he nodded, feeling his face flush. Why was he flushing? Midoriya didn’t mean close as in close, just close as in close friends. Right? ‘He is quite ...angry, usually, but he wouldn’t ever do anything to hurt Hanna.’
‘Wait, did you say cook for her?’ Hagakure said suddenly, voice incredulous. It was a bit of a late reaction, but it made Kirishima pause, and he wondered if Bakugou was a good cook. He almost scoffed at the thought. Of course he would be a good cook, Bakugou was good at practically everything. He could almost imagine the boy in the kitchen, aggressively stirring ingredients together while Hanna chattered away next to him.
‘Oh, y-yeah, although he probably wouldn’t appreciate me telling you.’ Midoriya mumbled, glancing sideways at Bakugou. Kirishima followed his eyes, to see Hanna grasping Bakugou’s hand again, watching as sparks flickered across his hand. Bakugou sat quietly, watching her gasp excitedly in his lap, expression soft and calm. It was so sweet, so unlike Bakugou, that Kirishima almost felt like he was being punched in the gut.
He was hit with the sudden urge to wrap Bakugou in a hug, and just hold the other boy close. The action would definitely be met with explosions, but hey, his quirk was hardening after all. The need was almost strong enough to make him actually take action, but he stopped himself. That would be stupid. And maybe too excessive to just brush off as friendly. Right? He sighed, and dragged his gaze away, before almost jumping out of skin.
Mr Aizawa stood right before him, looking as sleep deprived as ever. He hadn't even heard the teacher come in, too preoccupied with his staring. It left him practically wheezing in shock, but he smiled, a bit awkwardly. ‘H-hey, Sensei!’
The teacher gave him a distracted nod, but he was focused further away - on the same person Kirishima had just been staring at. Kirishima watched as Aizawa’s eyes widened slightly, before the man cleared his throat, tearing his gaze away.
‘Right, let’s get today started, shall we?’

Chapter Text
‘Welcome to Parent’s Day, we’re happy to have you all joining us.’
Aizawa’s voice cut through the chatter that filled the classroom, and most of the families fell silent. The ones that didn’t were quickly shut up by Iida’s hurried shushing, leaving Katsuki rolling his eyes.
‘Today is all about parents and carers getting an insight into how their children are doing at school. We hold this every year for all classes, and this year is Class 1A’s first ever Parent’s Day: so I’m assuming you are all still unsure of what to expect.’ Aizawa took a breath, managing to look both bored and stern at the same time.
‘You’ll be having your mathematics lesson with Ectoplasm first, as usual. Parents, you can sit at the back and observe.’ He paused to rub at his eyes.
‘Moving on, you’ll have an hour of what is essentially free time, where the parents will be having five minute one-on-one meetings with me about your progress, then your 20 minute break, followed by the rest of the day doing quirk training outside. The training will be split in half by lunch, as usual. Please stay in the classroom after your maths lesson, and during the hour following.’
A series of excited cries followed the teacher's statement, and Katsuki had to bite back his scoff when Kirishima turned to throw him an ecstatic thumbs up from the other side of the class. Of course Shitty Hair would get excited about missing out one lesson and spending most of the day training. Katsuki turned his glare to the wood of his desk, his view mostly blocked by Hanna’s beaming face. He blinked.
‘Wow! Does that mean I get to see you train?’ She let out excitedly, a stray strand of hair falling into her eyes and she lent forward. She was situated on Katsuki’s lap, small enough to sit cross legged - back pressed up against the edge of his desk and faced towards him. She was gesturing almost frantically in her excitement, and Katsuki leaned back a little to avoid being wacked in the face by her hands, nodding.
‘Guess so, brat.’
She practically squealed, excited, before abruptly letting her face fall into a frown. ‘Brat?’ She said.
Katsuki nodded again, just to watch her sigh dramatically as if he’d managed to ruin her entire life.
‘Kats,’ She whined. ‘I already told you, I’m not a brat!’
‘Alright, alright, sorry,’ Katsuki said, pausing before adding on: ‘...Brat.’
She once again sighed dramatically, letting her little hands curl up into weak fists to thump against Katsuki’s chest. He rolled his eyes, letting out a huff of laughter. The chatter across the class had risen once again, and their conversation faded into the mash of voices filling the room. The clear blue of the sky outside lit up the classroom, the sunlight falling across the floor in large rectangles that matched the shape of the window panes. It bathed the room in hues of yellow and white, and Katsuki watched for a moment as people walked past the windows; light changing them from dark to bright with each step.
Aizawa snapped him out of his staring after a few seconds, by clapping his hands together loudly. Hanna almost jumped out of her skin, jolting and twisting to see where the noise had come from. The chatter that had risen quickly slammed to a halt, and everyone fell quiet, watching as the man yawned.
‘No need to start talking before I get the chance to leave,’ He said bluntly, turning to pack up his notes. ‘Ectoplasm should be here shortly.’
With that, he settled back down into his seat, and Katsuki watched amused as the teacher subtly kicked his sleeping bag under his desk and out of view. A few of the parent’s glanced around awkwardly - looking torn between being surprised or somewhat offended by Aizawa’s manner. It made Katsuki snort, and Hanna looked up at him questionly as the low murmurs of chatter began to start up again.
‘Is he supposed to be a teacher?’ She asked, nose scrunched up in confusion. ‘I’m not sure he likes it very much.’
That made Katsuki genuinely cackle, and several heads turned towards him as he pressed a hand over his mouth.
‘Deep down, he probably doesn’t mind it,’ He managed to get out, still smiling and looking probably like an idiot. ‘Very, very deep down - but still.’
Hanna smiled back at him, eyebrows quirked in confusion. Katsuki just shrugged, mouth open to reply, but was interrupted by the banging of the door. Ectoplasm appeared at the room’s entrance, nodding at the parents. Subtly, Aizawa slipped out, practically running from the crowded classroom. Katsuki had to refrain from snorting.
Ectoplasm pushed his bag onto the desk and shrugged his cloak further around himself. ‘Right, let’s get on with today’s lesson.’
~
The lesson was dragging on, and Katsuki was fucking bored. Ectoplasm was talking them through quadratic equations; despite having covered them less than a week ago. There was a stifling sort of silence settled across the class, only interrupted by the quiet murmurs of the adults whispering to each other from the tables at the back. Four-Eyes looked like he was restraining himself from telling the parents to keep quiet, and Katsuki almost snorted at the sight.
Hanna was settled quietly on his lap, sketching something out on a piece of scrap paper ripped from Katsuki’s notebook. She’d point blank refused to sit at the back away from Katsuki, and Ectoplasm had seemed too confused to even get involved - opting to just mutter something about ‘small problem children’.
The rest of the class had already excitedly introduced their parents to their friends before the lesson had started, pulling each other across the room and laughing obnoxiously loudly at things Katsuki didn’t care enough to listen to. Predictably, everyone avoided him. It might have been because he was sitting quietly, practically emitting rage at the rowdyness of his stupid classmates, while listening to Hanna ramble on about everything under the sun. She had a sort of special talent that allowed her to skip from subject to subject completely unprompted and, even for Katsuki, it was sometimes tricky to keep up. However, her being four didn’t make any of that a surprise, and Katsuki was pretty fucking well-versed in her style of conversation. He was content to let her chatter on instead of having to force himself to pay attention to the rest of the class.
Now, Katsuki was sat silently at his desk, listening to Ectoplasm patiently describe how to cancel out similar variables to a very confused Mina. Hanna had valiantly tried to listen to the lesson at first, but she still had trouble counting all the way to 100 - and quadratic equations proved to be a bit harder than that. She was intently focused on her drawing; face lit up from the bright sun shining in through the window.
The sky was a clear blue, and the muffled shouts of students training outside softened the silence of the classroom. Hanna sat quietly, hand clenched around one of Katsuki’s pens as she drew shakily - the pen far too big for her small fingers. To be honest, he didn’t really have a clue what she was drawing, instead focusing on his notes as Ectoplasm once again described a simple equation for Kaminari’s sake. Katsuki already knew pretty much all of this syllabus, and it was fucking draining to listen to it again.
He shifted a little, eyes straying away from his notes to the trees outside the window. The flowers were in blossom, falling from the trees in an array of pretty pinks. The petals floated down from the branches almost idly, and Katsuki tracked them with eyes, watching as they made their descent. In the distance, students laughed and shouted - racing each other across the field - their figures blurred by the flowers falling in bulk.
‘Bakugou, if you can stare out of the window then I assume you can do this equation.’
Ectoplasm’s voice brought his eyes back to the board, and he almost jolted as everyone’s eyes snapped to him. He groaned, and Hanna looked up at him, laughing into her palm at her brother being called out. He rolled his eyes and forced his attention onto the equation written on the board, ignoring Ectoplasm’s expectant gaze.
‘X = 0.2.’ He said bluntly, watching his teachers eyebrows raise.
‘Well, I guess you were listening, Bakugou.’ Ectoplasm managed, before clearing his throat and returning his gaze to the rest of the class. Kirishima laughed, and Katsuki turned his head to see the other boy grinning at him, face bright.
Katsuki scoffed, feeling his face flush as he turned back to his notes, swallowing down the warmth building up in his stomach. He stared at his book, hoping his face wasn’t too pink, and tried avidly to focus. Across the room, Ectoplasm told Kirishima to be quiet, and the lesson resumed. Katsuki went to flip the page in his notebook, but Hanna’s little hand stopped him, and he looked down to see her staring at him - eyes wide.
‘Wow, do you think I’ll ever be as clever as you?’ She whisper-shouted, almost comically. She hadn’t got the hang of whispering just yet. He snorted, and nodded, prying her fingers of his hand so he could turn the page.
‘Yeah, I’m sure you will,’ He whispered. ‘You might even be smarter; you're already pretty clever, brat.’ He said it quietly enough that no one else would hear, but he could practically sense Deku leaning forward to catch the rest of their conversation. Before he could turn around and scare the shit out of the other boy, Hanna was grabbing his hand again, tugging insistently.
‘Really? Even, even more than you?’ She whispered, properly this time. He nodded, once again, and she beamed at him.
‘Hey, you have me to teach you, right?’ He said, and she smiled even harder, before turning back to her drawing. He paused, and glanced over her shoulder to look at the paper. Drawn in black pen, there were two little figures, the taller one with spiky hair and the smaller one with longer hair in two plaits. The taller person was holding one hand out: little blurry shapes he could only assume were explosions coming from its palm. The other hand was joined with the smaller figures’, who was holding out it’s own free palm with the same little explosions blasting out of the hand. It was a picture of the two of them, but with Hanna’s future quirk.
He blinked at it, as Hanna added trees to the background. A smile tugged at the corner of his lips, and he hurriedly brought up a hand to hide his mouth. The drawing was undeniably him and Hanna, and something in his chest squeezed tightly. She had dedicated almost an hour drawing the two of them. Fuck, he really would go soft at this rate. He fought away his smile, and reached down to tap at Hanna’s shoulder. She looked up at him expectantly, and he let the smile return briefly.
‘I like your drawing, Han.’ He said quietly, and she grinned proudly, pulling the paper off the table to hold it out in front of them both.
Before she could speak, Ectoplasm let a textbook fall to the wooden surface of the teacher’s desk with a slam, making Hanna jump.
‘Alright, that’s all for today’s lesson.’ He said, pulling the book into his bag. ‘Mr Aizawa should be here shortly, so if any parents wish to speak with me in the meantime, please feel free to do so.’ He settled back into his seat, and chatter started to rise around the room. Parents began to get up from where they had been sat at the back of the room to observe the class, instead moving to their kid’s seats. Katsuki watched passively, snorting as Kaminari’s mum berated him for his poor attention span.
He turned back to Hanna, who was still holding out her drawing - in slight shock from the loud bang of Ectoplasm’s book. He snorted at the wide-eyed look on her face, before she blinked and leaned back against his chest, letting the paper slide to his desk - her head falling back against his shoulder. She smiled up at him, before her eyes focused further behind Katsuki and she suddenly pushed herself upwards, waving.
‘Woah, did you draw that Hanna? It’s so good!’ Kirishima appeared from behind, smiling at them both as he leant down to look at the drawing. Katsuki blinked at the arrival, before pushing himself up a little straighter as Hanna grinned.
‘Yeah! Do you like it?’ She asked, practically headbutting Kirishima to lean forward and point at her drawing. ‘It's me and Kat, but when I’m training to be a hero and he’s already Number One!’
Katsuki tugged her back a little to avoid her colliding with Kirishima’s skull in excitement, and rolled his eyes as Kirishima grinned at him.
‘Number One, huh?’ He asked, watching as Hanna nodded and Katsuki narrowed his eyes.
‘The fuck? Of course Number One, Shitty Hair,’ He growled and Kirishima laughed, bringing up his hands placatingly.
‘Right, of course, I know you’ll be right up at the top, Bakubro - unless I get there first.’ He said with a smirk, and Katsuki scoffed, reaching out to bat his arm while Hanna giggled.
‘Sorry Sharky, but I think Kats might beat you there!’ Hanna laughed, and Katsuki grinned triumphantly, while Kirishima sputtered.
‘Sharky? What?’ He cried out, holding a hand to his chest in mock heartbreak. ‘Hanna, no! This is blasphemy, I thought I could trust you!’ He finished dramatically, and Hanna laughed even harder. Katsuki smiled, watching his sister apologise between giggles as Kirishima held back a grin and pretended to cry.
‘Oh, you must be Bakugou!’
A voice interrupted Kirishima’s dramatic performance, and he stopped, looking up at two women walking towards Katsuki’s desk. Katsuki blinked, confused for a brief moment, before he saw the shorter woman’s big red eyes, and the taller woman’s smile. It was the same as Kirishima’s: wide and blinding. He looked between the two for a moment, then looped his arms around Hanna to gently deposit her onto the floor, before standing himself up.
‘Oh, hey!’ Kirishima called out to the women, and below him Hanna looked around confused. ‘These are my parents, didn’t I say I’d introduce you?’ He said with a smile, and Bakugou looked away. Yesterday, he had been pretty adamant that Bakugou would meet his parents, and Katsuki had all but forgotten his insistence until now. Katsuki swallowed, watching as Kirishima beckoned the two over. Fuck, he couldn’t mess this up - not when Kirishima had been so excited about introducing him.
The two came to a stop at Katsuki’s desk, and Kirishima grinned. Katsuki smiled briefly at them, and let his head fall into a quick bow, ignoring the way his heart rate upped. Adults usually didn’t like him, - fuck, no one usually liked him - especially not straight away. He swallowed again, and looked up at Kirishima’s parents, trying to keep the nervousness of his face.
‘Yeah, this is Bakugou!’ Kirishima said, and Katsuki couldn’t help but notice the way the other boy watched him carefully from the corner of his eye. Fuck, had he noticed how nervous Katsuki was? His palms itched to spark off, and below him Hanna lifted her hand up to hold the hem of his shirt. He glanced down quickly at her, and breathed in sharply through his nose, before looking the shorter woman in the eyes.
She smiled at him. ‘Hello! I’m Eijirou's mum, Hisayo, and you're Katsuki, right?’ Katsuki nodded, pausing awkwardly before replying. Fuck, was he already messing this up?
‘Yeah, and, uh, this is Hanna.’ He managed, stepping sideways a little to force Hanna away from his legs and more towards the couple. Hanna waved, once again shy at the new arrivals, and Hisayo waved back, almost excitedly.
‘Hey Hanna! Is Katsuki your big brother?’ She asked, and Hanna nodded quietly, moving to hide back behind Katsuki’s legs. He groaned internally. Fuck, he was almost hoping she would help him out a little and make herself the centre of attention.
‘Sorry, she’s a bit shy,’ He mumbled out, and Hisayo just laughed goodnaturedly.
‘That’s quite alright dear, it must be overwhelming meeting all these new people, huh?’ She said, and Hanna nodded against his leg.
‘Why don’t you go and ask Deku for some colouring pens for your drawing, huh?’ Katsuki said quickly, the silence leaving him feeling awkward. ‘I bet it would look even better all coloured in.’ Hanna nodded seriously like they were discussing very important matters, and took off across the classroom in search of Deku. He patted her on the head as she scampered off, and looked back up at Kirishima’s family.
He could feel Kirishima still watching him carefully, but the boy looked away to gesture at his other mum - who was smiling warmly at Katsuki.
‘Ma, why don’t you introduce yourself?’ He said, and Katsuki turned to bow quickly at her, too. She bowed back, smile still in place, and leaned back a little on the desk behind her.
‘I’m Sugako, it’s lovely to finally meet you, Katsuki.’ She said, and Katsuki felt his gut clench. Finally? So Kirishima had talked about him before? He glanced quickly at the other boy, who just smiled back, still watching him almost contemplatively.
‘It’s nice to meet you too, Kirishima-san.’ Katsuki replied, looking down slightly, voice little more than a mumble.
‘Oh no, none of that, please call me Sugako,’ She said back, chuckling slightly and pulling Katsuki from his thoughts. ‘You didn’t tell us just how polite he was, Ei!’
Katsuki felt himself flush, and Kirishima laughed from beside him. ‘Yeah, that’s because I didn’t know.’ He said, nudging Katsuki's arm with his elbow. ‘How come you're never that polite to me?’ He pouted, and Katsuki reached out to punch his arm, growling a short ‘shut up’ under his breath.
‘See, there’s the Bakugou I know!’ Kirishima laughed, reaching out to sling an arm around Katsuki’s shoulders. He tensed, and turned to glare at Kirishima, but somehow couldn’t bring himself to shrug the other boy off. His stomach did some sort of flip, but he ignored it vehemently - letting his mouth pull up into a sneer.
‘Ah, well we’re just glad Eijirou found himself such a good friend, right Sugako?’ Hisayo said, nudging her wife, and Katsuki blinked - mouth falling open in confusion. Before him, Sugako nodded, smiling warmly, while Kirishima withdrew his arm and hid his face, embarrassed.
‘Mum!’ He whined, face slowly turning a red bright enough to rival his hair. ‘That’s embarrassing!’
‘Okay, Okay!’ Hisayo laughed, turning to squeeze Kirishima’s shoulder fondly. ‘We’re just happy for you dear.’
Kirishima groaned and pushed his face further into his hands, as if that would help him disappear from the room. Katsuki snorted and jabbed Kirishima with his elbow, but his heart was beating heavily against his ribcage. He almost jumped away when Sugako leaned forward, clasping her hand onto Katsuki’s own shoulder. He stared at her, wide-eyed, and she smiled, eyes creasing at the corners.
‘Thank you for being such a great friend to him, he loves UA - and I think some of that has to do you with you.’
She half-whispered it, like it was some sort of secret, and grinned when Kirishima let out a pained noise of mortification, cheeks red.
‘Ma!’ He yelped. ‘Please just stop talking!’
Sugako and Hisayo both laughed, turning to grin at their son; and Katsuki stood, hands twisted together, eyes wide. He swallowed against the pressure building in his chest, watched as Kirishima batted away Hisayo’s apologetic pat on the back. Something warm curled around the bones of his ribcage, and he breathed out shakily, letting a smile tug at the corners of his lips.
Kirishima was bodily pushing his parents away, a hand on each of their backs, face still flushed red. Hisayo giggled, and Sugako grinned. ‘Alright! Alright! We’re going!’ She laughed, letting Kirishima propel her towards the other parents. Hisayo twisted her head back, beaming, and waved at Katsuki. ‘Lovely to meet you, Katsuki!’ She called, and Sugako nodded in agreement, smiling.
Katsuki lifted his hand in an awkward wave, letting it drop immediately once they’d disappeared into the fray. ‘What the fuck.’ He murmured, staring at the crowded classroom, watching the bright red of Kirishima’s shitty hair bob up and down amongst the rest of the class. ‘What the fuck?’ He half-whispered to himself, again, feeling stupid. Dumb Hair’s parents were nice. Nice and apparently thankful for Katsuki? It didn’t seem quite right, even after hearing Sugako spell it out for him, plain as day, less than five minutes ago. He swallowed audibly against the lump that was suddenly stuck in his throat, and turned away, glaring heatedly out of the window as he blinked rapidly.
He wasn’t even upset, but something about the way Hisayo and Sugako had looked at him; like he was important to them or, or something had his eyes stinging like a bitch. They didn’t even know him. Yet, somehow, stupid Kirishima had managed to persuade them that he was worth their time, worth their compliments. It was a little much.
‘Fuck.’ He muttered, with feeling, and almost jolted out of his skin when a hand pressed against his shoulder. He turned, palms erupting into crackles, face twisted into a scowl, only to stop dead at Mr Aizawa’s raised eyebrows.
‘No need to blow my head off, Bakugou.’ The teacher said, letting his hand fall from Katsuki’s shoulder. Katsuki practically growled, irritation building as he clenched his burning hands into fists.
‘Don’t sneak up on me then,’ He retorted, murmuring ‘Creepy fucker’ under his breath as Aizawa rolled his eyes.
‘I heard that,’ he said, rubbing a tired hand over his face. ‘Anyway, it’s your meeting slot, but I presume there’s no point in it, seeing as your parents aren’t here?’
Katsuki thought it over for a moment, and opened his mouth to reply, before the wind was knocked out of him. Hanna had barreled straight into his legs, knocking him back a little with her enthusiasm. Mr Aizawa looked down in surprise, as Hanna excitedly tugged on Katsuki’s trousers; holding up a bundle of coloured pens like a grand prize.
‘Look, look!’ She said insintently, waving the pens up at Katsuki, a wide grin tugging up the corners of her mouth. ‘Momo made me some markers, she made
them, for me!’
Katsuki bent down a little, letting her shove one of the pens into his hand. He looked over it, feigning some deep interest in coloured markers, and nodded. ‘Woah, they’re pretty nice, huh,’ He said, mainly to watch her nod in excitement.
‘Yeah! Do you think they’ll make my drawing loads better?’
He nodded, kneeling down to pluck the pink and black ones from her palm. ‘Definitely, and these two are the perfect colours for your hero costume, right?’ She smiled, excited, and tugged them from his grasp to hold them up to the light. She inspected them seriously, before nodding.
‘Yep! Your right, Kats, they’re perfect!’ She held them to her chest, and grinned up at him. He grinned back, before freezing, feeling Mr Aizawa’s gaze on him. He’d almost forgotten the man was there, swept up by Hanna’s excitement. He rose back up to his feet, and watched as Hanna looked up - suddenly realising the teacher was standing over her. He probably looked somewhat daunting to a four year old: with his dark clothes and stern expression. She squeaked, eyes wide, and darted behind Katsuki, pressing herself against his legs.
Katsuki snorted, and Mr Aizawa stood awkwardly, still looking surprised at Hanna’s presence. What was with him? He was the one who’d asked Katsuki to bring Hanna in, why was he acting shocked? He shook his head and gently pushed Hanna away from his legs, letting her grab his hand in her own.
‘You’ve seen him before, but this is Mr Aizawa,’ He said shortly, gesturing at the man. ‘He’s a hero too, you know, Eraserhead.’
Hanna gasped and Katsuki inwardly smirked. He knew this was the key to getting Hanna out of being shy, unfortunately she was as much of a hero nerd as stupid Deku. Granted, she wasn’t quite as annoying about it. Deku had a special talent for that.
Aizawa blinked at Hanna’s obvious excitement, and looked at Katsuki suspiciously.
‘Oh, not many people usually recognise me, being an underground hero and all,’ He said, somewhat awkwardly, as Hanna beamed up at him. ‘Are you a big hero fan or-’
‘Yes!’ Hanna cut him off enthusiastically. ‘Of course I know who Eraserhead is, your quirk’s super cool!’
His eyes widened and Hanna rocked back on her feet, grinning. ‘I think having a quirk like yours would be awesome, because then you can take down lots and lots of villains!’ She babbled on, and Katsuki snorted as his teacher nodded along. This was kind of funny.
‘Yeah, she’s sort of a nerd when it comes to heroes,’ Katsuki interjected, grumbling when Hanna whacked a hand against his leg in annoyance. Mr Aizawa raised an eyebrow.
‘You’re one to talk, Bakugou.’
Hanna laughed, delighted, and Katsuki scoffed in defiance.
‘Hey!’ He growled. He was allowed to like heroes, he was training to be one after all! Aizawa just huffed a laugh, an amused look on his face, as Hanna giggled. Katsuki shook his head. The cheek of it.
‘So,’ Aizawa said, as Hanna choked down her laughter. ‘Do you have a quirk yet?’ He leant down a little to listen to Hanna, who shook her head.
‘No, not yet,’ She smiled up at him. ‘But Kats said he thinks it’ll come in soon, didn’t you?’
Katsuki nodded. To be honest, he had no clue when Hanna would get her quirk, but hopefully it would be soon. He’d had enough of her listing every quirk she could possibly get.
Aizawa looked at Katsuki for a moment, considering, before turning back to Hanna. ‘Well, I bet your quirk will be great.’ The corner of his lips quirked up in something like a smile, and Hanna grinned back.
‘Thanks!’ She half-shouted, looked as excited as ever. Katsuki rolled his eyes, tugging her back from hugging the poor man or something. Aizawa bopped his head in some sort of bow and pulled up his wrist to check his watch, furrowing his brows.
‘Right, I’ve got more parents to talk to,’ He said, voice lacking any kind of excitement or enthusiasm. ‘See you next lesson then Bakugou.’ He took off, almost hurriedly; and the minute his back turned Hanna squealed excitedly.
‘I just met Eraserhead!’ She swung their joined hands, eyes big. Katsuki smirked, tugging on the end of her braid. She looked seconds away from keeling over in shock, all jittery and excited. He let himself smile.
‘Told ya you’d see some heroes, didn’t I?’ He said, watching her giggle.
‘Yeah! This is the best day ever!’
