The Unexpected

Summary:

Because Min Yoongi didn't know what he was expecting when he moved in to his new apartment, but he definitely didn't expect to be starstruck the next day by an angel-faced boy holding a tray with freshly baked cupcakes.

He also didn't expect to feel a rush of jealousy go through him when said boy jumped into his boyfriend's arms in the middle of the hall way only a minute later.

He definitely didn't ever expect to fall in love with a neighbour. But then the boyfriend started to walk hand in hand with a random tall guy and the angel-faced guy knocked on his door at 3 a.m. in the morning, all giggly and drunk.

And Yoongi just didn't know what to expect in life anymore.

Chapter Text

Min Yoongi really hadn't wanted to move, but well, he couldn't stay living with his friends forever. He just turned twenty-six and both his friends were about to get married within a year, so now was as good as anytime to start living on his own.

And it really wasn't all that bad, the apartment complex he had moved into seemed quiet,he had a small balcony, the living room was spacious enough to fit all of his music equipment and well, at least he no longer needed to share his coffee supply.

He didn't expect to be completely starstruck the next day though. It was about a quarter to five in the afternoon when his creative flow had been disturbed by the doorbell ringing clearly through his still pretty much empty apartment. Confused and unexpecting he had opened the door with a deep sigh, only to suddenly be face to face with the most beautiful boy he had ever laid eyes on.

Blond curly locks (obviously dyed and permed, but that didn't make it look any less natural) adorned an angel-face with rosy, chubby cheeks and a cute button nose.

The boy had decided to bring him out of his embarrassing trance by speaking up. "Hi, I'm Park Jimin, I saw you move in yesterday. I live in the apartment next door and wanted to make you feel welcome, so I baked you these!"

And with that a tray with freshly baked cupcakes had been thrusted into Yoongi's hands, but he barely payed any attention towards it, because oh God, the boy's eyes disappeared when he smiled and his nose scrunched up in the most endearing way and all of it was just too much.

He didn't want to make a complete fool out of himself though (if he hadn't already) and with more difficulty than he should have had he started to introduce himself. Very smoothly so. "Oh wow, thank you! Uhm that's so kind of you. I eeh am Min Yoongi, would -"

But of course no good thing in life was ever meant for him and before he could finish his sentence and invite the blonde in for a cup of coffee, or tea, or water or whatever the boy would have wanted, the boy in front of him noticed someone walking towards them. He turned around with a loud screech "Gukkie!" and flung himself into the arms of a slightly taller guy with long wavy black hair and a knuckle tattoo.

Before Yoongi could even start to wonder who the hell that guy was, Park Jimin had both his feet on the ground again and grabbed the others hand, dragging him towards Yoongi's door.

"Gukk, this is our new neighbour Min Yoongi, I baked him cupcakes you know!" And then he had turned towards Yoongi with a blinding smile "Min Yoongi-ssi, this is Jeon Jungkook, like I said earlier, we live next door". That is when it began to dawn to Yoongi, "our neighbour" Jimin had said. Of course someone as pretty as him wasn't single and no, Yoongi wasn't jealous, no. He just met the guy, why would he be jealous?

So no, he also wasn't jealous during the next couple of months as he got to know the two younger guys a bit better. He definitely wasn't jealous when he discovered that whenever Jimin was feeling a little bit tired Jungkook would piggyback him to wherever he wanted to go.

He also pretended to ignore that queasy feeling in his stomach when he saw Jimin's small hand wrap around Jungkook's pink whenever they went grocery shopping. And that time when Jimin had been crying on his and Jungkook's balcony when their cat died, he definitely hadn't wished it was him who nibbled on the blonde's ear to comfort him until he calmed down.

Because he, Min Yoongi, was a civilised adult and Park Jimin was a taken man. An unfairly attractive young man, with a blinding smile, contagious giggles and a beautiful soul. But a man taken by Jeon Jungkook, who would scoop the smaller into his arms every day when he arrived home and that was exactly where Park Jimin belonged, in Jungkook's arms.

It was the beginning of October, almost half a year after Yoongi had moved in to the apartment and the weather was slowly turning colder. The rain was coming down in heavy showers and his living room was already getting dark despite it being only 4 in the afternoon.

He really didn't feel like going grocery shopping, but a quick look at the weather forecasts told him that it would only get worse, so he grabbed an umbrella and rushed out of the door.

Once in the hall he ran past two tall males, holding hands and almost chuckled "cute" to himself, before making a 180°C spin and take another glance at the couple. He sucked in a deep breath, because that man bun and knuckle tattoo could only mean one thing. Jeon Jungkook was holding hands with a guy, and that guy, for once, was not Park Jimin.

After that his whole grocery shopping trip dissolved in complete chaos, he bought nectarines instead of peaches, decaffeinated coffee instead of regular coffee and chicken legs instead of chicken wings. His thoughts occupied with only one thing, and that was how to break the news to Jimin.

Should he tell the younger, that his adoring boyfriend was walking hand in hand with another man or should he just let it go? It wasn't his business anyway. It felt like his business though. He could already imagine Jimin's face falling and if he was being honest, that was a sight he never wished to see.

Ever the coward he was, he decided to let it pass. He didn't even know what was going on, maybe Jungkook and the other tall guy were just really close friends. Yeah, that had to be it. And with that Min Yoongi went back to the safety of his own apartment, his stomach still feeling queasy and his lungs pulled thight. He decided to ignore it, however, hoping that one day, his misplaced feelings for Park Jimin would pass.

Min Yoongi loved sleep, he loved it so, so much and if something would ever wake him prematurely from his sleep, he would kill it. Well, unless it was a giggly blonde who went by the name Park Jimin apparently.

Yoongi had only just fallen into a light slumber, having stayed up late reading a book in bed, waiting for his precious sleep to come, because his coffee addiction had once again led him to drink another cup at eleven that night. He should have known better by now, but he was still human. Just before he could let the sleep engulf him entirely his peace was disturbed by loud, continuous knocks on his front door.

It took him a second to convince himself to leave the warmth of his blankets and get up to answer the still continuous knocks, but it was a little past 3 a.m. and it wasn't like he would be getting any sleep like this either.

All his sleepiness disappeared however, the second he opened his door, because in front of him was a droopy eyed, red cheeked Park Jimin. Clearly tipsy as he giggled at the sight of Yoongi in his pyjamas. So what, sue him for wearing actual pyjamas instead of whatever the kids wore to bed these days.

"Yoonie" he giggled, trying to step inside, but Yoongi stopped him, putting both his hands on the smaller ones shoulders. "Hey, hey, Jimin, why are you here? Are you drunk?" He asked. The answer seemed obvious, but that didn't mean Yoongi wasn't concerned for the younger man.

But the blonde kept giggling, and Yoongi would be lying if he said it didn't sound like heaven. He looked up at the older, caramel eyes blown wide. "Think Gukkie 's asleep Yoonie, he doesn't open the door and Diminie doesn't have a key..."

Yes, the younger was most definitely drunk, but God he was cute, calling himself Diminie and looking at Yoongi like that. Damn it Park Jimin, damn it, so much for not falling in love with you.
