Chapter 1: Just what are you?

Chapter Text

“Okay… I can do this…” Glimmer breathed in and out.

“Just one drop ‘oughta do it.” Her shaky right hand held a needle tight as it got closer to her left index finger waiting to be pricked.

“In three… two… two in a half… two and oh you know what screw it—!” She jabbed the small needle’s tip on her finger, “Ouch.” A tiny dot of blood surfaced through her skin, Glimmer turned her finger to face the symbols drawn on a ancient book she had picked up from the city’s public library.

A drop of fresh blood splattered on to the page, making the symbols glow an ominous red as Glimmer’s blood shifted around and traced each written word, in what the girl assumed was Latin.

Glimmer braced herself for what was to come next but as the blood dried out and red glow faded with nothing else happening, she began to lose patience. “Huh, did I skip a step…” She went over the instructions once more. “What, is my blood not worthy for them or something?”

“Glimmer!” Her mother shouted from the other side of her bedroom door.

“Yeah mom?”

“It is 1:06 in the morning, what on earth are you doing up so late and on a school night may I remind you.” Her mother scolded.

“Oh nothing. Just studying for my uh… Latin quiz?” She eyed the language written on the ancient book. Maybe she should’ve taken the suggested theatre elective at school, it could’ve helped her lying right about now.

“You should’ve taken those theatre classes, they could have improved your acting skills. Now to go bed for real this time.” Her mother spoke in a stern but caring tone.

“Fine, goodnight.” Glimmer sighed, tired and disappointed. She stood up from her study desk and closed the useless book before making her way to bed and shuffling under the covers.

“What a waste of thirteen dollars.” The girl grumbled with her eyes closed as sleep was taking over, making her unaware of the new presence in the room.

The first rays of the morning sun shined through Glimmer’s bedroom window, while the birds chirped to the start of a new day. An alarm suddenly went off.

“Ugh… why did I stay up late last night…” Glimmer complained and reached her arm out toward the noisy device to turn it off.

“Finally— I thought I was going to have to smash the damn thing!” A anonymous voice spoke up.

Now fully awake, Glimmer sprung up from her bed to find a pair of eyes staring back at her from the corner of the room, with a unamused look, causing the girl to scream.

“Can you not do that? It’s barely seven in the morning.” The stranger rubbed their temple with a irritated expression.

“Oh i’m sorry— how else am I suppose to react to a total stranger in my bedroom?!” Glimmer shouted, her fear now replaced with anger.

Noticing her switch of emotions, the stranger didn’t comment back and instead, moved to jump on the edge of the girl’s bed causing a quick yelp from her. “S-Stay back, I-I know how to call the police!” Glimmer cringed at her own words just now.

The stranger suddenly let out a wicked laugh exposing their unnaturally white sharp teeth. “You’re quite the comedian aren’t ya, Sparkles?” They wiped away a few laughing tears.

“It’s Glimmer and just what are you?” She took a clearer look at the stranger and realized it was a girl her age, but she did not seem human.

The strange girl had smooth caramel skin with strange markings on both her arms and thighs, voluminous dark brown curls, freckles across her cheeks, and unique eyes… One aqua blue and the other a amber yellow.

She looked to be straight out of a fairy tail… or nightmare, now noticing a black pointy tail and pair of horns attached to her. “What in the actual hell?”

“Not sure why you’re surprised Glitter, you were the one who summoned me after all.” The demon-like girl stranger yawned.

“Again, it’s Glimmer and when did I even summon you… Wait, was that last night?”

“Bingo.” The stranger smirked, she began to crawl closer toward the startled girl, stopping a few inches away from where she sat.

“W-What are you doing?” Glimmer panicked at the close proximity between them, all while the other girl locked eyes with her.

“I’m waiting for you to initiate our contract.”

“Um how would I do that? No, why should I do that?”

The stranger scoffed before getting off the bed, annoyance plastered all over their face. “I’m beginning to question your motive for summoning me, did you even mean to?”

“Well I wasn’t fully expecting it to work… Look, could you just explain all this to me?”

“Duh, I was just going to.” They rolled their eyes.

“First introductions. Call me Catra and as you might’ve guessed already— yes I am a demon, here to form a contract with you and in exchange you’ll give me something.” Catra explained.

“Is that something my soul?”

Once again the demon full on laughed before settling down and answering the curious yet slightly annoyed girl. “No Shimmer, I don’t roll like that. When the time comes, you’ll find out.”

“Can the contract be over anything?” She questioned, not bothering to correct her name seeing that the demon was doing it on purpose.

“Pretty much. So why did you summon me? What is it that you want, Pinky.”

“C’mon, that’s not even close to my name. You know what, never mind.” Glimmer rolled her eyes. “I want you to help me confess to my crush. You see, he’s a really good friend and…”

“Really a boy? Was kinda expecting something more like magical powers or teleportation.” The demon scoffed.

“Wait, those were options?!”

“That’s not what you originally wanted, so no.” The demon stuck her tongue out.

Catra held out her clawed hand for the girl to take, she then spoke in a serious manner. “Glimmer Moon, do you wish to seal the contract?”

Glimmer hesitated at first, before ultimately taking the demon’s hand and shaking it lightly. “I do.”

Chapter 2: A bisexual disaster

Chapter Text

“Our contract is now sealed.” Catra stated with a laid back smile, her pointy black tail swinging in what Glimmer assumed was joy.

“Now then who’s the boy we gotta charm?”

“His name is Bow Archer. He’s the same age as me, goes to my school and— Oh shit school!” The girl jumped out of bed and rushed to her closet to get dressed, having no time to continue describing her crush.

“Oh yeah, guess I should get ready too.” Catra mumbled to herself. Not knowing what she meant, Glimmer turned to ask but was suddenly awestruck by the demon.

Catra no longer looked like a spawn from hell. Her horns and tail had vanished along with the markings on her upper arms and legs, her eyes remained the same colors but now had human irises instead of them resembling a cat.

Oh no, she’s hot… Glimmer internally panicked.

“Awe thanks Sparkles.” Catra winked. “But as cute as you are, you’re not exactly my type.”

“You can read minds?” Embarrassment now colored the girl’s olive toned cheeks.

“Only of those who I hold a contract with.”

“I… wow okay forget I ever thought that just now.” The girl mumbled while slipping on her shoes.

“Hmmm.” Catra thought about it, “Nah.”

>>><<<

After getting dressed and eating a quick breakfast, both girls managed to make it to school in time before the first bell. “So, what do I need to know?” Catra looked around the building, ignoring the stares she’s been getting since arriving.

“Know about what?”

“About you and this arrow boy, what’s the situation between you two.” The demon clarified, now entranced by the shiny school trophies on display.

“Bow is a good friend but… I do wish for us to be more than just pals. I was hoping that with your help, we could change that?”

Catra laughed for the third time that morning, her menacing sharp canines were replaced with human pearly whites. “Geez I didn’t peg you as the mushy type, Sparkles.” The demon teased.

Glimmer suddenly stopped and turned to face Catra with a blush, “And? We have a contract meaning you’re helping me out with this so suck it.” The shorter girl smirked.

“Hey Glimmer!” A voice called out, making the girl’s confidence deteriorate in a instant. She took a deep breath in before facing the approaching person.

“Hi Bow.” She shyly greeted back.

“I was worried you weren’t coming today since I didn’t see you get off the bus this morning.” The boy was quite good looking, Catra thought. She also found it humorous how Glimmer was turning into a blushing mess.

“Oh that’s ‘cause I missed the bus today for waiting on my cousin Catra here, to get ready.” Glimmer grabbed the demon’s arm before she could walk away. “She’s new in town.” The girl added.

“Nice to meet you Catra, i’m Bow.” He kindly smiled.

The demon only nodded in response before moving to stand behind Glimmer, ready to ask if she could leave but paused and turned her back toward them after hearing a familiar voice.

“There you are Bow, I was looking for you— Oh hello.” The voice greeted.

“Hi, are you new here? Don’t think i’ve seen you around.” Especially with my Bow — Glimmer felt a tinge of jealousy to which Catra could sense, as well as intimidation.

Glimmer felt speechless by the taller girl before her, they had straight blonde hair tied in a ponytail, striking blue eyes and pale creamy skin, not to mention the nice arm muscles… God i’m such a bisexual disaster.

“Oh right, Glimmer meet Adora. She is new to town too and a old friend of mine haha…” Bow chuckled nervously. “Which reminds me— Adora meet Catra, Glimmer’s cousin.” He gestured over to the hidden brunette.

Adora’s eyes were immediately drawn to the girl behind Glimmer, a shocked look took over the blonde’s face. “… Catra?”

“Hey Adora.”

Chapter 3: A date?

Chapter Text

“PB & J sandwich?” Glimmer offered, already cutting the sandwich in half to share with the brunette.

The weather was nice and so the two girls sat on one of the outside tables beside the cafeteria for lunch.

“Demons don’t need food.” Catra rejected the offer, seeming in a bad mood after this morning’s sudden encounter.

“Well my mom taught me manners, it’s rude to eat in front of someone who is not.” Glimmer stated before grabbing the brunette’s hand and handing her the poorly half-cut sandwich. “Now eat. That’s an order.” She pointed.

“Cool it Sparkles, you’re not the queen.” Although intended to sound snarky, it came out more in a playful tone. Eventually Catra bit into the squishy meal, finding it rather tasty.

“So… mind explaining how you know Bow’s friend and she knows you?” Glimmer raised her brow questionably. “Did you also do a contract with her?”

Catra laughed at that last question, although it was not her usual wicked laugh, making Glimmer suspicious of the demon’s odd behavior. “It’s not important.” The brunette answered, clearly wanting to move on from the topic.

“Speaking of important— I got you a date with arrow boy.” She casually announced.

“WHAT.” Glimmer shrieked, causing a few students sitting near them to glance over.

“I said…”

“No, I heard you the first time but how?” Glimmer managed to finish her sandwich without choking despite being excited by the amazing news.

“I had a class with him, asked there, he said yes.” The demon dryly explained.

“Awe c’mon, I want details.” Excitement radiated off the shorter girl, making it harder to shut her down.

“I simply asked if he’d like to hang out with us on saturday, a-k-a tomorrow and he said yes. That’s all.”

“Wait a second, you’re going too?” Glimmer tried to hide the disappointment in her voice but failed.

“Only to keep a certain someone from butting in.” Catra muttered mainly to herself.

“Well whatever, either way I have a date with Bow!” The girl cheered once more, pulling the demon in for a celebratory hug.

“Argh— Let go!” Catra whined.

>>><<<

“A date?” Adora asked concerned.

“Well her cousin Catra is going as well but that’s besides the point.” Bow replied, feeling giddy at the idea of hanging out with Glimmer tomorrow.

“I’m not so sure about this Bow…” The blonde protested while sitting next to the boy. They were out by the soccer field snacking on some potato chips under a shady tree.

“Adora, I know it’s like your mission to keep me safe from potential ‘evil’ but it’s just one date with the girl I… really like…” Bow began to blush.

“What about Catra?” She whispered.

“What about her?” He asked the angel, noticing a steady blush appear on her face as well. “Do you two have history together? That would explain how you already know each other.”

“W-What no, not at all…” Adora tried hiding the truth.

“You’re not very convincing.” Bow chuckled at her poor attempt to lie.

“Wait,” He suddenly gasped. “Were you sent to protect her sometime ago too?” His eyes widened with curiosity.

“No. Look, it’s complicated.” The blonde sighed, draping an arm over her face as she laid down on the soft grass.

“Okay I get it, but if you ever want to talk about it, i’m right here.” The boy assured as he moved to lay down next to the angel.

“Thank you.” Was all Adora said back. Her mind and heart raced a mile a minute but definitely not over some chaotically beautiful, heterochromatic eyed demon. That’s for sure.

>>><<<

“I have band practice after school but you can wait for me in my room, just don’t let my mom see you.” Glimmer instructed.

“Really Sparkles, band practice?” Catra snickered.

“I find it fun, don’t judge!” The blushing girl tried to defend.

“Hey Glimmer, ready for practice?” Bow shouted as he walked toward the girls with Adora following behind.

“Arrow boy is in band too… fun indeed.” Catra retorted low enough that only Glimmer heard.

“Shut it.” She talked through her smile while waving at the approaching pair. “Hi Bow, totally ready— Let’s go!” Glimmer hooked her arm around his and pulled them toward the band hall.

See ya Catra! Glimmer turned and stuck her tongue out.

“Bye gals!” Bow yelled ahead, leaving Adora and Catra standing by themselves in the hallway.

The two girls locked eyes for a moment, neither one saying a word when all of a sudden Catra turned and walked away, most likely heading to Glimmer’s house.

“Catra wait—!” Adora immediately followed.

“Go away Adora.” The demon warned, now picking up the pace.

“No, we need to ta—“

“There’s nothing to talk about so leave me alone.” Catra interrupted. Not bothering to hear the blonde’s reply, she continued to walk faster, not caring if the angel still followed or not.

But Adora’s never been one to simply give up and Catra soon finds that out as a familiar hand grabs her arm, causing her to halt and turn to face the blonde.

“Catra please, I need to know why you’re here, what are your intentions?” She interrogated while her hand still gripped the demon’s arm.

“My intentions? You sound like somebody’s middle aged dad, Adora.” The brunette did a little snort before genuinely laughing.

Her laugh hasn’t changed… Adora stared in awe.

“Anyways, why do you need to know that?” Catra asked, aware of the blonde’s stare.

“I was sent to protect Bow from any potential evil and seeing that you’re here… Well, it’s pretty self explanatory.” The angel confided with her.

“I see. So you think I’ll what, try to influence him or something?” Anger began to take over Catra.

“Catra…” Adora tried to talk but got cut off.

“Save it. I am not some low rank demon anymore.” She scoffed. “My business is with Glimmer, NOT you or arrow boy!” Catra raised her voice.

“Well your business involves MY client!” Adora yelled back.

“So? I’m not doing anything ‘evil’ as you say. You’re good at making sure of it, after all.” The demon spat words laced with venom.

“What’s that suppose to mean?” Feeling offended, Adora released Catra’s arm not wanting to hurt her.

“Playing clueless now are we? Fine.” Catra glared at the blonde before turning around to leave.

Only this time Adora didn’t follow. She simply stood there, watching as the brunette walked further and further away from her.

“What did she mean just now…” The angel wondered.

Chapter Text

“Are you ready Angel 5H3-R4.”

“Yes, Light Hope.” Having finished her training and education on humanity and their world below, the young angel was ready to embark on her first ever mission.

“The First Ones have high hopes for you, Angel 5H3-R4.”

“I won’t let you down.” Confidence gleamed in the blonde’s bright blue eyes.

“Kyle Thomas is your first client.” Light Hope handed her the file. “He is to do one good deed by the end of the day.” She instructed.

“I understand.”

“Good luck to you, Angel 5H3-R4.”

The young angel’s vision started to blur as her surroundings shifted, making it close her eyes as she was transported down into the human world.

Once feeling stable again, she opened her eyes and found herself in what looked to be a public park. She glanced around the area, taking it all in, the people walking by, birds flying and chirping, the sun shining…

“ACHOOO! damn allergies...” A voice said. The angel turned around and saw a young blonde boy sitting on a park bench under the shade of a big oak tree.

“Kyle Thomas?” She doubled checked her file to make sure he was the one destined to be her first mission, and indeed he was.

The angel walked over to him and noticed he was in the middle of finishing a sketch on what looked to be a boy around his age and a tiny letter R with a heart at the bottom corner of the page.

“Interesting…” She commented, knowing no human can see or hear her.

“Achoo!” Kyle sneezed once more into a tissue, then proceeded to toss it toward a trash can near him but missed the target and instead landed on the ground.

“Oh no you don’t.” The angel placed her hand on top of his shoulder before advising, “Littering is NOT okay.”

She watched her client eye the thrown tissue but did nothing about it, making her grow confused.

Once again, the angel put her hand on his shoulder and with a kinder tone this time, “You are better than this, Kyle.” Yet the boy did not so much as flinch.

So she tried again, “Think about the environment.”

Nothing.

“Think about the animals that live here.” Still nothing.

“The poor tree that suffered into making that tissue?”

Nope.

“Ugh—!” The angel grunted in frustration, running both hands over her face but froze at the sound of laughter coming from above them.

“You should’ve seen your face!” A voice mocked.

Shocked that someone could see her, she lifted her gaze up toward the oak tree and spotted a girl, sitting on a branch looking down at the angel with a mischievous smirk.

“What— Cat got your tongue?” The girl purred, her eyes roaming all over the blonde.

The angel could only stare back, mesmerized by the rare gem-like eyes the stranger had. The left, a delicate aquamarine and the right, a dazzling citrine.

Her staring soon came to a halt as she caught glimpse of a pair of horns and a tail. “A demon…” She gasped, it could be the reason why her mission had gone wrong.

She turned back to Kyle, seeing the boy had now started on another sketch, this time of a lizard that had crawled on to the bench.

The angel thought for a moment, then one last time, she placed her hand on his shoulder and advised, “That boy from your sketch wouldn’t like a litterbug.”

And just like that, the boy moved to pick up the used tissue and finally disposed of it properly into the trash can. “Yes, I did it— HA.” The angel gloated up to the demon above but found that she was no longer there.

>>><<<

“Catra!” A menacing voice called.

“Yes Shadow Weaver?” The brunette rolled her eyes as she stepped into her own world coming back from the humans.

“Report the status of your first mission.”

“It was successful.”

“I see. Looks like you are not useless after all.” Shadow Weaver mocked.

“I also messed with a angel’s mission.” Catra added with a glare.

“And did you succeed?” The brunette could only remain silent, making Shadow Weaver take the reaction as a fail. “Hm.” Was all her superior said before taking her leave.

>>><<<

A few missions later and the young angel was outstanding. She received many praises from her higher ups and fellow angels. All was perfect for her, that is, until a certain multi-color eyed demon started showing up.

It started with frequent encounters, each time a coincidence neither deities let go to waste. Either the blonde would try to reverse the demon’s bad or the brunette would try to override the angel’s good.

Despite being on different sides, it didn’t take long for them to reach a compromise. Soon enough, an unexpected friendship was formed between them.

“Heh…”

“What’s funny?” The blonde asked the giggling demon beside her.

The two of them sat at the edge of a tall glass building that had a view overlooking the entire city they were sent to for the day. They watched the sunset together, as it was now their special thing.

“I was just thinking about how we never told each other our names.”

“Oh?”

“Catra.” The brunette replied.

“Huh?”

“My name, it’s Catra.”

“Oh.” The angel responded again but then smiled at knowing what to call her friend. “It suits you.”

“Oh yeah, how so?” Catra teased in her husky voice, that always caused the blonde to resemble a tomato.

“It just does.” The angel averted her gaze.

“And, what’s your name?”

“Angel 5H3-R4.”

At first, Catra waited for the blonde to crack a joke or say she was just kidding around with her but as they continued to stare in silence, she realized the blonde was being dead serious.

“Oh shit.”

“Catra, please don’t curse.” The angel scolded but noticed the brunette was visibly flustered afterward. “Are you alright?”

“I-I didn’t think you’d say my name all of a sudden…” The demon cleared her throat.

“I wish I had a proper name…” The blonde mumbled, “Only First Ones are given one.” She pouted.

How adorable. Catra thought and suddenly an idea struck, “Adora…” She tested it out.

“What was that?”

“Your name from now on— Adora.” The demon stated proudly.

“I love it.” Adora gave Catra the softest, most genuine smile she had ever seen.

>>><<<

“Lately the status of your missions have been disgraceful, Catra.” Shadow Weaver argued.

“Is that so, I’ll do better next time.” The brunette waved her off.

“We’ll see about that.” The woman glared back.

It wasn’t that Catra was bad at missions, on the contrary she was good. But having Adora always by her side during them, made it hard for the demon to bring bad influence to the humans with a literal angel next to her.

Although Catra didn’t mind, she was happy. Being with Adora was like a breath of fresh air from her own polluted world. “I wonder if she feels the same?” Catra decided to ask the angel tomorrow.

>>><<<

As Adora got ready for her daily mission, she received a knock on her room door. Upon opening it, she found a higher up Angel. “Light Hope… What can I do for you?”

“Congratulations Angel 5H3-R4. You are being promoted.” The poker face angel announced.

“Promoted?”

“Yes, to a level 2 Angel.”

“Level 2?” Adora repeated, finding it hard to believe what she was hearing.

“Indeed. The ceremony is to be held today along with a celebration afterwards.” Light Hope informed.

“Oh but will I still have a mission today?” Adora hoped the answer was yes, she really wanted to see Catra and tell her the good news.

“No mission today. The event will take up most of the earth day.” The Angel shattered Adora’s hopes of seeing her friend.

“Are you sure? I can do a quick mission right before sunset…”

“Angel 5H3-R4, I am pleased to hear such devotion from you but it is fine to take a break for the day.” Light Hope assured.

With no other choice, the young angel nodded in agreement and followed Light Hope to the ceremony. “I guess one day wouldn’t hurt.” She told herself.

>>><<<

Catra sat at their usual hangout spot, gazing at the city view. It was now around sunset time and Adora was still nowhere to be seen.

“She’s probably running late.” The brunette was convinced. But soon enough, the warm colors of the sky turned to cool hues as the moon started to rise.

“Oh she is so getting an earful tomorrow.” Catra sighed as she got up to leave. Once back to her world, she was greeted by Shadow Weaver waiting for her return.

“Just where have you been?” Shadow Weaver asked.

“On a mission.”

“A mission this late?” The older demon was not convinced.

“What is it now?” Catra sighed, not in the mood for her superior’s interrogating.

“There has been news going around of an angel getting promoted.” She began but the brunette failed to see how that mattered. “The last thing we need is another level 2 angel ruining our work.” Shadow Weaver seethed.

Level 2? Catra flinched, thoughts of Adora crossed her mind, making her suddenly anxious about the topic.

“What does this angel even look like?” Her voice quivered but it went unnoticed.

“I would not know that but her angel number is rumored to be 5H3-R4.”

“I see.” Catra tried her best to remain neutral from the reveal.

“Maybe if you did your missions correctly— You would be the one getting promoted.” Shadow Weaver commented before leaving the brunette alone with her thoughts.

“I would’ve done my missions, if Adora hadn’t kept…” Catra paused as a sudden revelation came to her. “She used me, didn’t she…” The brunette let out a weak chuckle.

“I should’ve known… She always kept me distracted, away humans, from influencing them.” The demon rambled on, coming to the conclusion that Adora only befriended her to ruin her missions.

Just like Shadow Weaver had mentioned.

>>><<<

The sun was starting to set the next day while Adora sat at Catra and her meet up spot. Excitement oozed off the blonde as she waited for her friend, anxious to tell her about the promotion she received yesterday.

But Catra never did show up that day.

Nor the next day. Or the day after. Or ever again.

>>><<<

It didn’t take long for Catra to rise to the top. Now a high rank demon, she had surpassed her once superior, Shadow Weaver. Her work now consisted of taking, trading or making deals with humans.

As Catra scanned through her list of summonings, her eyes stopped at a certain sparkly girl with short pink dyed hair and purple contact eyes. “Glimmer Moon.” She read.

“Well you’re not summoned by someone like her everyday. This should be interesting.” Soon enough the demon found herself in a dark room with her summoner already fast asleep.

“Great.” Catra sighed.

>>><<<

“A special mission?” Adora questioned.

“Yes, an evil presence has been detected back in the city where you first started out.” Light Hope informed.

“Got it, what’s my mission?” This wasn’t the first time the blonde was assigned missions like this. Now a level 3 Angel, she was familiar with the work.

“You are to protect the young man in this file, I’ve been told he is key to the evil presence.” Light hope handed over the file.

“Bow Archer.” Adora read his information, “Sixteen years old… Likes to make tiny wooden figurines…”

“Are you ready Angel 5H3-R4.”

“I’m ready.”

As usual, her surroundings started to shift as she closed her eyes, knowing the drill and opening them again upon feeling a carpeted floor beneath her.

Adora glanced around, noticing sunlight peeking through the window blinds and slightly brightening up the bedroom. Her client was still sound asleep, until an alarm went off making him shuffle under the covers to turn it off.

Bow soon sat up yawning and stretching before opening his eyes trying to adjust them to the lighting and quickly widened them at finding a complete stranger standing in his room, watching him.

“Hello i’m Adora.” The angel kindly introduced.

Frozen in shock, the boy began to analyze her features for when he gives a description to the police about a stranger with blonde hair, blue eyes, white wings—

“... Am I dead?”

Chapter 5: Be my girlfriend?

Chapter Text

Catra had almost forgotten what it felt like to relax, no duties or responsibilities to weigh on her as she laid comfortably on the soft pink bed, eyes closed while the last rays of sun gently caressed her face.

“Finally some peace and quiet.”

“Catraaa!” Glimmer bursted into the room.

“And there goes my peace and quiet.” She grumbled as she tried sitting up, only to be pushed back down by the energetic girl jumping on top of her.

“Get off me—!” Catra growled.

“I have a date!” Glimmer squealed, ignoring the grumbling demon beneath her.

“We’ve established that.” The brunette struggled to remove the girl. It was one of the cons of turning human, she becomes weak.

“I know but Bow and I talked about it more during band practice and we decided to go to the city fair!” Glimmer’s excitement made her hold on Catra tighter.

“Sparkles— I am two seconds away from obliterating you.” The brunette warned.

“Oh please, like you’d hurt your summoner.” She called the demon’s bluff.

“Wanna bet?”

“Sure, anyways what should I wear for tomorrow?” Glimmer finally got up to head toward her closet, and just when Catra thought the girl couldn’t get any more sparklier, she is proven wrong.

Upon opening the Glimmer’s closet, she was met with what looked to be a sparkly kingdom of clothes. It had to be an obsession at that point.

“I was thinking something like this.” The girl held out a short and frilly lavender dress.

“Hm how about something like this.” Catra picked out a black shirt with a white moon crescent in the center and a short plum pencil skirt to go with it.

“Huh, who knew demons had great fashion sense.” Glimmer joked as she hung her clothes back up.

“Trust me, my outfit’s going to make you wish I was your date instead.” The brunette bragged.

“That’s right, you and Adora are coming as well…”

“Don’t worry Sparkles, i’ll make sure to keep us away from you two doofuses.”

“Thank you.” Glimmer gave an appreciative smile to Catra.

“Whatever, it is my job after all.” The demon girl mumbled shyly.

“Right… Well tomorrow’s a big day so I think I’ll head to bed early.” The girl started to undo her bedsheets. “Wait, what about you?” She turned to Catra.

“Demons don’t need sleep.”

“Not that again— Here.” She patted down on the bed space next to her.

“No thanks.”

“CATRA.” Glimmer gave her a stern look.

“Ugh fine.” Catra rolled her eyes in defeat.

“Goodnight, demon scum.”

Goodnight Sparkles.

Peace and quiet took over once again.

“Ah, isn’t it a beautiful day?” Bow beamed.

“Mhm… totally…” Adora yawned while she slouched against the bus waiting stand.

It was now 8:00 AM as the two stood by the bus stop, waiting on Glimmer and Catra to arrive. Both were wearing casual jeans, Bow with a yellow cropped t-shirt and Adora with a striped shirt and a ripped jean jacket on top.

Bow was off the rails excited for the day. As for Adora, although she technically did not need sleep, she felt exhausted from staying up all night binge watching a show about magical princesses fighting evil with the two main characters obliviously in love.

“Adora, did you really stay up watching that one show?”

“All five seasons.” The blonde confirmed.

As the day got brighter and warmer, more people started driving around and walking by as they headed to either work or their own weekend plans.

“Hi Bow!” Glimmer shouted as Catra and her walked over to them while waving energetically.

“Wow… She looks great.” Bow whispered softly while gawking at the sparkly girl.

“Yes, she does.” Adora agreed, although her eyes were not on Glimmer but rather on the brunette next to her, dressed in ripped black shorts with fishnets and a stylish mint green crop top. Suddenly Adora was very much awake.

“G’morning girls.” Bow greeted once they got closer, his eyes never leaving Glimmer.

“Good morning.” The shorter girl smiled back, her eyes locked on the boy as well.

“Adora…” Catra called out, making the angel smile tentatively in hopes of being greeted in a cutely manner too but instead the demon finishes with, “You look like shit.” She pointed at the dark circles underneath the blonde’s eyes.

“Okayyy— Shall we get going?” Bow cut in.

They boarded the bus and headed towards the city fair. Bow and Glimmer instantly sat together while Adora and Catra decided to stand and held on to the metal poles while avoiding any contact with each other.

“I can feel you staring.”

“S-Sorry it’s just… you look good.” Adora shied away.

“Duh.” Catra responded with an eye roll, fighting the urge to smile at the compliment.

They soon arrive to the pier where the fair was being held. Crowds of people already started forming at the entrance to buy tickets. “You two wait here while we go buy the tickets.” Glimmer instructed as she took Bow’s hand and headed toward the busy ticket booth.

“She sure is bold.”

“More like bossy.” Catra stepped away.

“W-Where are you going?”

“Relax Adora, i’m just getting a snack.”

“I’ll come with.” The blonde catched up to her.

“Why— afraid I’ll steal or something?” The demon scoffed.

“What, no. I just feel like getting a snack too.” The angel lied, she hoped the brunette didn’t see through her true intention of just wanting to be more around her.

Catra led them to a food truck parked right outside the fair for hungry people coming in or out. As they walk up to the green truck’s window, they were happily greeted by a worker there.

“Buenos días, what can I get for you two ladies?” The woman smiled.

“G’morning, i’ll take a burrito and blondie over here will have la comida más picante que tiene por favor.” Catra sneakily ordered, leaving Adora impressed with her newly learned language.

“That will be $5.30.”

Adora had already handed money to the woman before Catra could reach into her pocket for the money she took from Glimmer’s purse earlier that morning.

“Gracias, it’ll be ready in 7 minutes.”

The two girls moved to sit on one of the few small tables placed at the side of the food truck. Neither said a word as they waited for their food, but continuously stole glances from each other.

“I didn’t know you learned spanish.” Adora was the first to break the silence.

“I didn’t know you had money.” Catra remarked.

“Actually it’s Bow’s money, he lent me some for today.” The angel smiled at the boy’s kind gesture.

“I see.”

They sat in silence for the remainder of time until the woman came out of the green truck to hand them their food. After thanking her, they began to dig in. Catra watched closely as Adora took the first bite of her food, and immediately turned red.

“Hot, hot, hot, hot—!” She fanned her tongue but quickly learns it did nothing to help. “Cawah! wah du I du?”

“How should I know?” The brunette snickered.

“Cawah!”

“Fine. Here, drink this.” She handed the blonde a cup of water that came with her burrito.

Adora chugged it all before exhaling in relief. “Thank you.” She sighed.

“I doubt it does much to help calm down the spiciness though.”

Suddenly Adora snapped her head up at her with wide eyes at the reveal of her food that Catra had ordered, but before she could say anything, Bow and Glimmer were back.

“We got the tickets!” The approaching pair shouted in synchronization.

“Woah are you okay Adora? Your face is all red…” Bow gasped in worry.

“I am fine. Just some spicy food is all.” She glared slightly at the demon sitting next to her.

Feeling the sudden angry tension between the two girls, the pair quickly intervened. Bow grabbed Adora while Glimmer pulled Catra and guided them toward the fair’s entrance.

Once inside, the pair headed off to a ride, leaving Adora and Catra once again on their own. Staying true to her word of keeping them away from Glimmer’s date, Catra convinced herself it was only right to ask the blonde, “Wanna go on a ride?”

“Sure.”

And just like that, the two deities spent the rest of the day playing, riding, and eating most of the snacks the fair had to offer. It felt like the good old days when they joked around or teased one another, overall having fun together. Catra hated the nostalgia of it all.

“We still haven’t tried that one.” Adora pointed at the big ferris wheel located a bit further from the rest of the events.

“Oh yeah, I was kinda saving it for last.” Catra commented and began walking towards it with the blonde following behind.

“Two people.” She told the guy in charge of seating and operating the ride, he then proceeded to sit and lock them in safely before moving on to the next people in line.

They watched as the people below got smaller and the ocean view ahead became bigger. The sun had just began to set as the two girls stared out into the deep blue sea, both deep in thought.

“Catra...”

“Stop.”

“Please, I want to know…”

“I already told you,” Catra sighed. “I have business with Glimmer and no it’s nothing evil, happy?” She turned to face Adora and was caught off guard by the angry expression the blonde was giving her.

“Why do you keep assuming I think the worst of you!” The angel snapped.

“Because you do!” Catra huffed.

Visibly frustrated at each other. The two girls took a moment to calm down before saying anything else, trying to figure out their next words.

“I waited Catra…”

“What?”

“I waited for you that day.” Adora frowned at remembering the day Catra stopped showing up.

“Big deal, I waited too.”

“Yes and I’m sorry. I tried seeing you that day but the First Ones wouldn’t let me out of their sight.”

“Just where are you going with this Adora?”

“Everyday before sunset I waited, hoping to see you again Catra.”

“Adora...”

“I thought we were friends, I thought we… What went wrong?” She looked at the brunette with dejected eyes, waiting for a response back, an explanation, or anything really.

“You always interfered with my work...” Catra took a deep breath and continued, “It always had to be ‘good’ with you, like my work didn’t matter, like I didn’t matter…”

“You matter a lot to me!” Adora blurted out, she was just mere seconds away from breaking down, but she needed to get through and say what she had to say.

“I am truly sorry Catra. I never meant to make you feel that way, much less hinder your work, although I should’ve considered the consequences of me being around while you did your missions. It’s just being with you...” Adora paused before choking on her own words.

“Being with you felt more like paradise than heaven itself.” She finally confessed.

“Do you really mean that?” Catra blushed.

“I do.” Adora confirmed.

“You’re such an idiot.”

“I know.”

Soon all the blonde’s worries went away by Catra’s signature laugh, the same harmonious sound she heard when they first met and wished to keep on hearing it, til the end of time.

People screamed and laughed down below yet the only thing they heard was the rapid beating of their own hearts as they stared into each other’s eyes.

The way Catra was suddenly looking at her made Adora take initiative. She inched closer to the brunette while placing her hand on top of the girl’s and slowly leaned in.

“Can I kiss you?” Adora whispered.

“Yes.”

And before she knew it, they kissed.

“Wow…”

“Don’t ruin it.” Catra giggled.

“I had a really good time with you today.”

“Me too, Glim.”

The pair were out by the beach a few yards away from the pier, walking hand in hand along side the ocean shore under the moonlit sky.

“I’m glad we did this, you know, hung out.” Bow lightly squeezed her hand.

“Oh, so now our date is being reduced to a simple hangout?” Glimmer teased.

“Simple? Never.” He smiled knowingly at her.

They took a few more steps before coming to a stop by Bow. He turned to face the now confused girl beside him and gently grabbed hold of both her hands, intertwining them with his slightly trembling ones.

“Glimmer… I like you, a lot.” He blushed profoundly.

“I like you too Bow, a lot.”

“In that case, will you be my girlfriend?”

“Yes!” She internally squealed from delight as they went in for a hug, staying like that for a solid minute before slowly pulling away while staring into each other’s eyes.

Are we about to kiss? The two thought in unison.

“Ahem— am I interrupting?” Catra suddenly appeared from behind, causing the couple to jump back.

“What the hell Catra!” Glimmer fumed.

“Time’s up Sparkles, we need to go.”

“Where’s Adora?” Bow looked around, finding no sight of the angel.

“She’s waiting for you at the entrance to the fair.” The couple looked confused at Catra for a moment then back at each other, surprised at the sudden turn of events.

“Guess I’ll see you at school, okay?” He gave his girlfriend a soft forehead kiss.

“Okay.” She smiled.

Bow then let go of her hands, making his way toward the entrance to the fair but paused and turned around. “See you later, Catra.” He waved at the brunette.

“Nice meeting you.” She waved back, although the meaning of her words went unnoticed by him.

“Catra, what’s going on?”

“The contract is over.”

“What?”

“You got your wish didn’t you? A relationship with arrow boy.” Catra smirked.

“Yes but…”

“Then let’s head on home.” They silently made their way back to Glimmer’s house, quietly going in and up the stairs to her bedroom.

Once inside, the demon went straight for the ancient book still on Glimmer’s study desk and grabbed it. “Burn it.” She shoved the book toward the shorter girl.

“Huh?”

“It’s what I want in return from all this.” The brunette crossed her arms.

“Why?”

“Because after I leave, you’ll forget I ever existed and I don’t need you summoning another demon later on.” Catra explained.

“Can I not just keep on summoning you?” Tears started to form as Glimmer realized what was happening.

“You won’t remember me so how could you summon me again.”

“But that’s not fair!” Glimmer protested.

“Don’t make this harder than it has to be, Sparkles.” Catra sighed.

“I want to remember you, I wish for you to stay, don’t you like it here?”

“It’s going to be alright, Glimmer.”

“Asshole… Why’d you have to finally say my name now that you’re leaving…”

“The book.” Catra reminded.

Glimmer finally complied, she went downstairs to her kitchen to grab a lighter and headed back upstairs where the demon waited. She held the lighter with shaky hands, remembering how this all started.

“In three... two... two in a half...”

“Glimmer.” The demon warned.

“One.” The flame steadily reached the corner of the old book and spread all over. “Will Bow and Adora remember you?”

“Adora is leaving as well. Now that my work here is done, there’s no need for her to ‘protect’ arrow boy.”

“Wait, was she a demon too?”

“The opposite actually.” Catra let out a comical laugh.

It took a few seconds for Glimmer to understand what the brunette meant but once she figured it out, she could hardly believe it.

“Figures I get the demon.”

“Hey YOU summoned ME.”

“Yes and I don’t regret it.” The girl chuckled as she wiped an escaping tear away.

The book was more than halfway burned. Glimmer frowned at the sight, dreading what was to come next. “I would say I’ll miss you but I won’t even remember...”

“I know.”

As the book was fully engulfed in flames, the demon looked up at her summoner and gave a smile. “Contract is completed.”

“Goodbye, demon scum.”

“Take care, Sparkles.”

Chapter Text

A cool autumn breeze blew through the air causing a few goosebumps to rise over Glimmer’s skin. She shivered a little as she brought her knees up to her chest, hugging herself to shield away the cold.

“Why did I agree to an after school picnic during fall?” She sniffled.

“Here wear this.” She suddenly felt the warmth of her boyfriend’s jacket over her.

“Thanks Bow but won’t you be cold as well— Are you seriously wearing a crop top in THIS weather!” She scolded upon noticing the boy’s attire.

“You know it’s like, my identity.” The boy shrugged.

“Remind me again why I asked you out?”

“Last time I remembered, it was me who did the asking.”

“No way— you were too shy to make the first move.” Glimmer playfully nudged him. “Huh? now that I think about it, I don’t really remember who asked who…”

“Weird, me neither.” Bow scratched his head.

While her boyfriend tried to figure it out, she shifted her attention toward the duck pond they sat across from. She admired the crisp orange leaves floating about in the water, a few dragonflies still flying around and the cloudless bright blue sky.

It may have been rather chilly to spend the day outside but the scenery was worth the slight numbing cold. Glimmer’s sight soon got ambushed by a wooden figurine dangling from a small chain.

“Woah— What’s this?”

“Happy two year anniversary!” Bow smiled.

“Awe babe you shouldn’t have.” Glimmer grabbed the gift excitedly, turning it around to get a proper look of the wooden figurine her boyfriend had made for her.

The figure had tan skin, wild brown curls, blue-yellow eyes, along with a devil tail and horns. “A demon?” She gave Bow a curious look.

“Do you like it?”

“Of course, it’s beautiful.” Glimmer held the figurine close, a part of her feeling some sorta connection to it but couldn’t decipher why.

“That’s good, I made us a matching pair.” Bow held out another wooden figurine, only this time it was an angel with blonde hair, blue eyes, and wings.

“Figures I get the demon.” Deja vu suddenly washed over her.

“We can trade if you’d like, I don’t mind.”

“No way. I love mine thank you, but I didn’t get you anything...” Glimmer frowned.

“Hmm... I accept kisses.” The boy puckered up, making her giggle at his sillyness.

“Deal.”

They clipped their wooden figurines on to their school bags and scooted closer to each other. Glimmer leaned her head on Bow’s shoulder, their hands intertwining as the two gazed at the duck pond.

“Bow, I love you.”

“And I love you, Glim.”

“Oh yeah, how much?” She challenged.

“Enough to make you a demon figurine from scratch.” He gave her a peck on the cheek. “How about you?”

“Baby, I’d summon a demon for you.” She returned the kiss on his jaw.

“Idiots.” Catra commented as she watched the couple from afar on a tall grass hill that overlooked the small park.

She had been wondering how they were doing, feeling like ages since she last saw them and so she decided to pay a visit even if Catra was no longer visible to them.

“Hey Force Captain.” A lovely voice broke the demon out of thought.

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t a First One.” She leaned her head back to find Adora standing behind looking at her with a bright smile, a look she’ll never get tired of seeing.

“Interesting place you picked for our date this time.” The angel sat down next to her girlfriend.

“Well… I thought we’d check up on them.” Catra pointed over to the couple sitting by the duck pond.

“Hey it’s Bow and Glimmer.” Adora’s face lit up at seeing them together again, looking happy as ever. “Awe did you miss them?” She teased by poking the brunette.

“I did not and quit poking me dummy!” Catra tried wrestling her and ended up being pinned down.

“It’s okay— I missed them too.”

“Whatever. Now get off me you’re heavy.” In spite of complaining, the brunette made no real effort to push Adora off.

“What’s the magic word?”

“Get off or I will obliterate you?”

“Nope.” Adora proceeded to drop her full weight on top of Catra while wrapping her arms around the brunette’s torso and placing her head on her girlfriend’s soft rising chest.

“Why have I not dumped you yet?”

“Because you like me too much.” Adora confidently stated.

“Well you got me there.” Catra sighed happily, shifting just enough to be able to hug her angel back.

They stayed that way for a while, holding each other close as the sky above changed from its usual azure hue to a orangie-pink pastel.

Soon enough the pair sat back up, Adora placing Catra in front of her to hug from behind and rested her chin on the brunette’s left shoulder while Catra leaned back.

And just like that they ended the day doing what they both loved most, watching the sunset with their lover.
