Chapter Text
The cold crisp December air bit at Peter’s spandex covered legs as he swung his them against the large brick building he was currently sat upon. Tonight was, surprisingly, quiet with nothing more than a mugging here and there. This was one of those nights where Peter had nothing to help distract him from his real life problems. Like the fact he was a little short on groceries and that his entire floor at stark industries had decided to throw a huge christmas party that was somehow mandatory for all employees to attend, much to Peter’s displeasure. He didn’t want to go but his stupid manager, Que, kept bothering him about it everyday this week. Sure, she meant well, knowing the boy had just gone through a break up with his long-time girlfriend, Gwen. That consistent reminder was starting to annoy him now. They’d broken up not even 2 weeks ago and everyone he knew was acting like it just happened yesterday. How is a guy supposed to move on if no one leaves the subject alone? A heavy sigh left his lean body creating a cloud of white fog in front of his masked face. He was also part of the problem if he was being honest. He still had her gift nicely wrapped on his desk in his room next to all the pictures they took together on the many dates they went on since they were just 17. All of her forgotten clothes and items were still left around his apartment, waiting for the day their owner came to retrieve them. A day that he wasn’t really looking forward to. That meant it was over for real and the tender heart located in his chest wasn’t ready for that.
It’s my fault anyway . They had gotten into a huge argument about his job as Spider-man and the dangers that came with it. Peter knew that Gwen was just scared about losing him but that didn’t calm his flames of anger. Spider-Man was a part of Peter that he treasured so much. It was the side of him that everyone loved and idolized. There was no way he could give that up, not even for Gwen. He really thought she’d understand like she always said she did. That she’d always be by his side like she has been for the 5 years they’ve been together but as Peter has grown to know, no one ever stays by his side at the end of the day. They always leave him alone. It ended just as quickly as the argument started. She left after declaring they were no longer together and that she didn’t want the boy in her life. I didn’t even try to get her to stay. I just let her go. It's better this way. She’s safer this way. Is what he’s been telling himself to at least keep himself from breaking down. Another sigh left his body. What was the point of feeling blue when he could just go home and sleep these feelings away? He stood, balancing on the edge, getting ready to sling home.
“Woah! Is that the Spider-man? Fancy meeting you here”. Peter recognized this voice. “Hey, Deadpool”. He said in a monotone of voice, not really feeling like dealing with the guy’s over dramatic and loud personality. Not that he ever really wanted to “Any plans for night? Besides being incredibly sexy in those tight pants of yours?”. The tired boy decided he would just sit back down to humor the merc. “No”. Said merc sat next to the smaller male. “Me either. Haven’t got any jobs good enough to bother with”. Peter hummed in response, not even looking at the guy.
“You usually nag me about my jobs. What’s up? Tin-can still hasn’t let up about your pretty face?”. Yet another problem to be reminded of. All of the Avengers, including the entirely of Shield, was trying so hard to know who Spider-man was under the mask. It had caused a few more problems in the vigilantes life then he really preferred. Just the other day Iron man, a.k.a his actual boss, messed up a whole underground drug ring that Peter worked so hard to crack by blasting straight into the base and letting a few of the members incharge go just to try to get on Peter’s goodside ‘by helping’ if you could even call it that. It really just made his life so much harder than it already was. Well, Peter did end up catching those runaways so that problem was somewhat solved.
“Yeah. That is still going on but I don’t really care all that much about it. They can keep it up but I still refuse to work with them or show them my pretty face”. He joked at the end making Wade smile under his mask.
“You show them who’s boss Spider-babe!! I’ll always be here to back up that sweet ass anyday!”. That statement caused Peter to smile under his mask, not that the merc was aware. “That’s if they don’t get you first for being a complete idiot sometimes”. Wade let out an offended gasp. “I crashed into them one time! Wasn’t my fault they decided to fight right in front of my favorite taco place”.
“No one told you to jump from a moving cab and straight into Caps chest like some perv”.
“He was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. Or was it at the right place at the right time?”.
Peter rolled his eyes. “Whatever you say”. The bright city of new york always looked so pretty from the tall rooftops. It was like it was nothing more than a jumble of different colored lights rather than a huge city full of people. “So, if that wasn’t bothering you, what is?”. Whether or not he should even bring up the problem flashed through his mind for sec before disappearing like a spark of electricity. “I got dumped”.
“Like, someone, who has eyes and brain, broke up with you?”. The disbelief in that question was almost enough to get a laugh. Almost. “Yup. After 5 years. Gone”. Wade’s stare was directed at the side of Peter’s face but he made no effort in returning it. An awkward silence filled the area for a few moments, neither knowing what to say. “Oh….”. A hand hesitantly patted the hero’s back. “Sorry, dude. Didn’t mean to make you all moopy. Mind me asking why?”.
“Uh, She wanted me to give up Spider-man but I just couldn’t so she left”. Yeah, now I’m really alone with nothing more than this alter-ego to keep me going. Great.
“Well, You know, she sounds stupid”. Peter finally meets Wades. “I mean, I can see why she left but at the same time, it’s dumb. Whether you’re out or in costume, you’re still you. Two sides of the same coin. Shouldn’t she love both of them? You’re Spider-man and Spider-man is you. But what can I say? I’m just some idiot in and out of costume. You could be a huge nerd for all I know”. Peter stared at Wade in awe. Never had he expected something that wasn’t complete nonsense to come out of the Mercs mouth. Those words actually made him feel less at fault and more at peace with everything. For the first time in this whole month, the sadness actually felt like it was letting go of his heart.
“Are you going to say anything? I’m starting to feel uncomfortable and not in a good way”.
“Thanks…..That actually made me feel…...less like shit”.
“Glad to help Spidey!”. Wade pulled the small frame into his side with a huge smile that was visible from under his mask. “Now! Let’s get something to eat! I’m starving!”. Peter’s tummy growled in agreement. “Yeah”.

“I’m not joking! She was completely naked! The image will never leave my mind for as long as I live. Wrinkly old skin in the hot tub”.
“Gross. Stop talking”.
The duo was now seated in a 24 hour hotdog place. There weren't many people around since it was almost 2 in the morning and no sane person would be out and about in such cold weather just for a hotdog at a shady dinner like the two masked idiots munching on their huge amounts of food. “I have plenty of stories way worse than the old lady in a hot tub. Oh like that one time there were these two guys with a huge-”. Peter covered the man’s mouth with his gloved hand. “Don’t want to know”. Wade took the hint and let out a desperate sigh. “You’re no fun!”.
“I just want to eat without these gross images in my head. Thanks”. He took a big bite of the greasy hotdog covered in ketchup, mustard, and pickled relish. “Watching you eat is making me imagine some amazing stuff”. A piece of pickle hit the merc right on his forehead from Peter flicking it at him. “Stop being weird”. Wade leaned on his hand. “I like being weird”.
“Yeah, Yeah”. Wade hadn’t touched his food since they got it. Eating alone while another person was there is super awkward. “Aren’t you gonna eat?”. Wade glanced down at his food then back at the boy with food stuffed in his mouth, making him look like a little chipmunk. “My face isn’t the most appealing thing to look at while you eat”. Peter had heard a bit about Wade’s appearance from the rumors floating around the avengers and Stark towers but he hadn’t ever stopped to really think about it since Aunt may taught him that all rumors are false until proven true. “Oh. I don’t mind. I feel bad eating all this infront of you”. Gesturing to all the empty foils pushed to the side of the table to hopefully prove his point. Wade didn’t say anything as Peter kept pointing at the stuff on the table.
Wade’s loud laugh made Peter’s sensitive ears ring and his butt to jump from the chair. “You’re so cute! Being all considerant of little old me! Well, don’t say I didn’t warn you”. The skin on the now exposed chin was covered in what appeared to be burn scars. They covered even what was assumed to be once pink lips. Peter’s own lips were pressed in a thin line as he scanned the mercs face. Peter’s eyes trailed the exposed chin. It was clear that Wade had a well built and defined chin and probably face to go along with it. His suit didn’t really leave much to the imagination since it was pretty much skin tight. It was safe to assume that Wade was probably a looker before this happened to him, not that Peter was saying he wasn’t handsome or anything since it was just his chin. What was the merc afraid of? As far as Peter could tell, Wade looked fine and not in the least bit gross or unattractive. That probably didn’t apply to other people though since they could be judgy and rude. Peter knew better than to judge people solely on their appearance. Everyone had their own scars whether they’re visible or not.
“You have a nice chin”. A loud snort came from the older male. “Really? After inspecting me so much, that’s all you have to say?”.
“Yup. You have a nicely sculpted chin. Like a model or something”.
“What a nice thing to say! Don’t go falling for this handsome face”. Peter rolled his eyes. “You don’t have to worry about that”. Wade began eating with a smile on his face. “I don’t know about that, baby boy. I’m very persistent”.
“Whatever you say, DP”.

“Good morning, Peter!”.
“Morning, Que”. Peter replied with a small wave as he walked into the lab he worked in. “Do you have a suit ready for the party?”. He slipped on his white lab coat and walked over to his desk. “We need to wear a suit? And the party is a few weeks away”. The party was a week before christmas. “Don’t you want to find a date? You should wear something nice to impress all the ladies coming”. The only response from the boy was a small hum as he got to work on the machine he was working on. It was a request from Tony himself so Peter spent all his time working on it. “Come on! Cheer up, Parker! Have some fun for once. You don’t go to any of the company parties or even leave this lab! Get out there and meet some people”. Que flicked her long black over her shoulder to see the boy better. Peter just hummed again. “Don’t make me slap you, Parker”.
“I’m just going since they made it mandatory for employees. That’s it. I’m going to stay for a couple of hours then go home”. Que placed her goggles on her pale face, covering her pretty blue eyes from the dangerous chemicals she was currently mixing. “You’re no fun. You won’t even stay for little old me? Your favorite person?”. This whining she was doing reminded Peter of someone. “Who said you’re my favorite person?”. The lady sighed in defeat. “Rude. I’ll leave you alone with your little machine. Be lonely over there with your tools”. Peter rolled his eyes and got to work. The machine was a type of laser you could say. It was more like a bunch of lasers put together to make a giant shield that could pretty much withstand anything. He wasn’t too sure why Tony came to him to build this when the guy was literally a mechanical genius with a huge fortune at his disposal. Oh well, more work for him to get his mind off things. Soft hums filled the lab from the girl currently having the time of her life mixing up all types of stuff to make whatever she was creating. Peter knew at this point it was better to just leave her alone rather than try to get an answer out of her. She wasn’t the best at explaining things.
“Good Morning you two! See you both hard at work”. Peter was surprised to see stark standing at the door, coffee in hand. “G-Good Morning sir!”. Stuttered a flustered Que. “Morning sir”. Peter muttered out. “How’s everything going?”. Que looked like she was about to pass out with how much sweat was forming on her forehead. “It’s going great! I’m actually super close to perfecting that serum you asked for! Just need a few more tests here and there”. Stark smiled at her with a nod. “That’s good. Keep you the good work”. Que flushed a deep red before vigorously nodding her head. “How about you Kid? Everything is almost done?”.
“Just need to run a few trails and hopefully everything works accordingly”. Tony gave him a thumbs up. “Well, since you two are almost done, mind doing me a favor?”. Que blushed even harder. “I wish I could sir, but I can’t really leave the chemicals out for too long or they might blow up”.
“It’s no problem, Peter?”.
“What’s up?”. Stark smiled at him. “I just need you to show someone around but I have to warn you, he’s a little strange”. Peter shrugged. “It’s no problem. I don’t mind”. He actually did mind but who could say no to Tony Stark? “Great. I would show him around myself but I have a meeting to attend to. Jarvis! Bring the idiot in”.
“Yes sir”.
Peter stood from his stool as he waited for whoever he was in charge of escorting around the building to enter the room. Oh no . A familiar red and black skipped through the hallway, visible from the glass windows surrounding the lab. “I heard you called for me Tin-can!”. Damn. I should’ve said no. Wade entered the lab still happily skipping like a schoolgirl. “Peter, this is Wade. I need you to show him around. He’ll be stopping by a lot and I really don’t want him going somewhere he isn’t supposed to. Wade, this is Peter, my precious employee so keep your hands to yourself”. Que looked rather relieved she declined the job from the look on her face. Lucky. “Hello there, nerdy kid. I’m the merc known as Deadpool! It’s a pleasure being shown around by a cutie like yourself”. Not only did he have to deal with this idiot while as Spider-man, he also had to as Peter Parker. “If he does anything, Let Jarvis know and I’ll take care of him”. Tony patted the boy’s shoulder reassuringly. “Okay”.
Tony warned Wade one last time before leaving to go to that meeting he mentioned, leaving Peter alone with the merc in the hallway. “Well, first thing first, This is the lab where I work with my manager Que”. Wade waved at Que through the glass. She gave him a small wave back. “There is another lab on this floor but it currently isn’t in use since someone accidently blew it up last month. There’s also a small break room at the end of the hall and of course a bathroom from employees”. Peter began walking towards the elevator with Wade following close behind. “On the top floor belongs to Tony. We aren’t allowed up there unless he asks so stay away from there unless you want to get an earful from both him and happy”.
“Who’s happy? Sounds like a weird porn star name”. Peter pressed the button for the floor below the one he was one. “He’s head of security”.
The door opened and Peter wasted no time exiting. “This is the cafeteria. Food is pretty good”. There were a few people sitting at the tables glancing at the duo more so at the man decked out in a suit. “I’m getting a coffee. Want anything while we’re here?”. Peter walked up to the rather advanced machine and put in his usual order. A black coffee with a little bit of sugar and nothing else. “You drink it black? Are you a serial killer?”. Peter waited as the machine poured the hot liquid into his cup. “I’m just tired. The bitterness wakes my soul”. Once it was full, the cup was now in his hands. “I’ll get something later. One with the tour”.
The next floors were just some meeting room and labs that didn’t really matter much. Peter tried to get through this as fast as he could but Wade was way too annoying about stopping at every floor and getting a full tour with a description of what it was used for. He even went inside every bathroom just to see if they were different even when it was explained to him they were all the same. Not to mention, he stopped to talk to anyone and everyone he could which annoyed Peter so much he was considering giving up his secret identity to toss the talkative merc out a window and swing his way home.
Peter sat in the corner of the lobby while Wade flirted with the two ladies seated at the check-in desk. He couldn’t really tell if they were flirting back or just blowing him off. Peter’s phone vibrated in his pocket. He took it out and sighed at the name. Gwen had texted him, asking if he had time to call. The merc was still busy flirting so the call was made. Peter stepped out the front of the building as he waited for the phone to be answered.
“ Hey…...Peter”.
“Hey, Gwen”.
This was so awkward for the boy as he didn’t expect her to call him so soon. He predicted at least another month before her name popped up on his phone screen again. Was it happiness he felt? Or was it just the relief he felt to hear her voice? Maybe both.
“ Um, I left some of my stuff at your place and I was wondering if we could meet up somewhere since I have some of your stuff too”.
This is what he dreaded. Meeting up seemed like a horrible plan. What if he broke down? That would be embarrassing.
“Oh….uh Let’s meet up tomorrow during my lunch break. I’m busy today with stuff”.
“ You mean as Spider-Man?”.
Ouch. He had forgotten how mean she could be sometimes. Being blunt was nice sometimes but other times it hurt. “No. I’m actually working a bit late today. Training a new employee”. Peter glanced inside. Wade was showing the girls something on his phone.
“ Oh. Well, Let’s meet for lunch then. Meet at the usual place? Maybe get a bit to eat?”.
The temptation to take that offer was so high but he knew better. She was just doing it to be nice and he was in no mood to be pitied. He let out a loud sigh which he knew caught her attention. His finger ran through his messy brown hair. “Thanks for the offer but I’d rather just get this over with. Don’t humor me, please”. The line was quiet for a moment like the other person was at a loss for words which wouldn’t be a surprise since he did sound rather depressed.
“ Sorry. Okay. No lunch. See you tomorrow then Pete. Bye”.
He didn’t say it back as he quickly ended the call, harshly wiping the small amount of tears about to fall down his face. That was a bit rude but what could he do? Have lunch and get even more hurt and depressed? Pull the bandaid off in one piece as fast as you can to get it over with. Doing it slowly will only make it hurt more. Peter slid his phone back in the pocket of his jeans. This really wasn’t his day. Couldn’t it just end already? Spar him anymore problems? If only life worked like that. “Yo! There you are, cute nerd! What are you doing out here? Got jealous of me paying attention to someone else?”. Peter quickly wiped the rest of his tears before taking a big intake of air into his heavy lungs. “I had a call. Are you done? Some of us have actual work to do”.
Wade stared at the boy. Noticing the obvious redness of his eyes and the quiet tone of voice he had which made it clear the kid was crying or atleast about to. What could’ve happened during the few minutes he was chatting? Wade watched as the boy held his lower lip between his teeth as he watched a few people walk down the sidewalk. Those lips looked familiar but where had Wade seen them? Maybe this kid was in a porn or something? Would explain the urge to kiss them nagging me. Or maybe I’m just super horny. A cutie like him would turn anyone on.
“So? Can I stop being your personal tour guide now?”. Wade nodded. “After you show me where your bed is, yes”.
“Great. I’m leaving. Don’t get lost”.
