Are You the KeyMaster? (No Relation to Ghostbusters!)

Summary:

After classified as Quirkless, Izuku didn't really expect to make friends again, thanks to Bakugo and the rest of Aldera.

He's quickly proven wrong...in a rather unlikely way.

Chapter Text

Analysis Journal, Supplemental Version. Izuku Midoriya

Ever since I’d learned about them, I’d had a fascination with Quirks; what they worked, what they let the user do, how they looked, everything.

Quirks... they’re kinda weird they’re a funny thing, actually. I’ve seen people with physical ones, like scales and pointed ears. Others you didn’t know what it was until they used it, like Midnight’s sleeping gas, or Snipe’s bullet control...and then you see ones with physical appearances that seem to have nothing to do with their quirk.

Once I saw a boy with a fox tail, but his Quirk was making light beams shine from his eyes like searchlights! Not to mention the sheer variety; from just having glow-in-the-dark hair, to All Might’s superhuman strength and Endeavor’s fire.

Which is most likely the reason I questioned whether the ability I’d learned I have was a Quirk.

That and the reason I decided to create this supplementary .

Initial event:

I was eight when this all started. It was a Saturday afternoon and my mother and I had just gotten home from shopping:

“Momma, why’d you even get it?” Izuku asked, looking at the taped shoebox. They were almost home when they spotted a small swap meet in one of the lots. She’d decided it couldn’t hurt to look for a minute.

That minute ended up with her buying a ‘stored surprise’ from a guy who claimed he ran an antique shop in Kyoto. It was the first time he’d ever seen her make an impulse purchase.

“I don’t know, sweetie, just seemed like a fun chance to take.” She smiled and gave a little shrug “Besides, it was only two hundred yen.”

He gave her a look, but let it drop. To an eight-year-old, that was still a lot of money.

She then handed him the box. “Here, why don’t you see what’s in it while I go put the groceries up.”

“Ok.” Taking it, he jogged over to the coffee table and set it down. The tape must have been cheap because it peeled away really easy. As soon as he lifted the top off, the first thing that popped into his head was ‘This is two hundred yen?’

That and ‘Junk!’. Barely any of it looked interesting as he started pulling stuff out: a couple of old hair clips, a hand mirror - without the glass part, some plastic jewelry… and an ugly glove that had been chewed on. He was about to go tell her she wasted money that could’ve gone to a candy bar when he spotted two figurines in the bottom of the box.

Picking them up, he saw they were both dressed like shrine maidens. One had the face covered by a fox mask, the other had a cat mask. From the weight, they had to be metal, and looked like they cost way more than two hundred.

“Why are they warm?” He asked himself. Despite it being well into Winter, and them being in that box for who knows how long, both figures felt warm to the touch. It may have just been because his hands were still cold so they felt like it, but it was still odd.

They were just little metal statues, but Izuku couldn't help but notice the amount of detail in them both. Enough to make them seem almost alive.  He swore he could see each strand of hair if he looked in close enough.

Actually, he nearly did swear. Mostly in shock and a fair amount of alarm when a sudden blinding flash of light erupted from the two figurines, making him hurl them against the couch. When his vision returned, the figurines...weren't anymore.

If I was to show this to anyone, they’d probably think I had an overactive imagination...or was crazy. But what I saw next (the next sentence is scratched out) When the light faded, the spot where I’d thrown the two figurines now had two girls sitting there.

They say magic isn’t real, but after what I learned…

Izuku rubbed his eyes to be sure he was seeing straight. There, sitting on the couch were two girls, wearing the same shrine maiden outfits. But now they were unmasked. One had long mid-back length white hair, fox ears, grey eyes, and nine long, fox tails fanning out behind her. The other had shorter ‘pixie-cut’ purple hair, violet eyes, cat ears, and two tails that stuck straight up as they both looked around in surprise.

“P-Para...we’re…” The fox girl said in excitement, shaking the sleeves of her outfit before wrapping her arms around several of her tails.

“We’re free!” The cat girl squealed, letting out a happy ‘mya’ while her tails curved to form a heart.

He watched in surprise, confusion, and a dash of amusement as he watched the two girls - both of them a couple of years older than him, at least - scream in joy and hug each other while doing a little wiggle dance where they sat.

“Um...e-excuse me…” He managed to speak up, getting their attention. “What’s g-going-whaa!” The words barely left him before both girls suddenly glomped him, making him the filling to a girl cuddle sandwich. The fox girl buried her face in his neck and giggled excitedly as she nuzzled him, the cat girl rubbing her cheek against his and purring loudly.

Don’t really think anyone would blame me for admitting I was, for lack of a better term, dumbstruck then. That’s not really a situation you expect to find yourself in at that age.

My reaction was fairly standard; I yelled for mom. Except when she arrived…

“Izuku, what’s wrong?” She asked, looking around.

He stared. What was…”Don’t you see them??” He yelped, pointing at the two. “The box...stuff...girls!”

“What?” She looked at him in bemusement. “Izuku, if this is a joke, you probably should work on it some.”

His jaw dropped. “D-don’t you see them??”

“Yes.” She focused on the box. “Not much of a surprise. Ah well, we can take it to the local goodwill next week.”

“B-but..them...they..” He stammered, watching her walk off.

“Oh, we forgot about that. Since you freed us, you’re the only one who can see us for the next twenty-four hours.” The cat girl said.

"Yeah, our Sensei added that to the spell as sort of a prohibition effect.” The fox girl pouted. “Being ignored by the whole temple was BORING!”

And that was just the beginning-

“Myyaa...it’s almost one am.” A voice spoke up behind Izuku, pulling him away from the journal he’d been writing in as two pairs of arms slid around his torso.

He quickly looked over to his clock. “Already?”

“Yeah, come to bed, Master.” Chimed in another, followed by a familiar nuzzle. “We want our cuddles.”

“Ok, ok.” He chuckled, letting them drag him to the bed. He quickly rolled into the middle of the bed where Niki and Para curled up against him on either side, wrapping their arms, tails, and legs around him. ‘A guy can get used to this.’ He thought, putting an arm each around two girls. ‘Especially with this lot.’

“Hey, scooch over, you two.” Another voice muttered. “We want our cuddles, too!’
