Notes:

Hey everyone, this is my first fanfic, so please bear with me! Will probably have kind of unpredictable updates, but I will do my best to update frequently!

Chapter 1: Prologue pt. 1

Chapter Text

Harry cursed violently as he felt a cutting curse rip through his back. He had definitely misjudged the auror department’s caliber, assuming them to be as incompetent as the ones during the war.

He mentally berated himself for not expecting the ambush as he picked himself up from the ground and continued running. He could hear the angry shouts behind him, and was desperately aware of how many of those voices he recognized and had once thought of as friends.

He remembered clearly every event that led to this occurring. Dropping the stone in the forest, meeting Dumbledore, fighting and triumphing over Voldemort for the last time. That had all gone as perfectly as it could. After the war, he had done what was expected of him; enrolling in the Auror training program, resuming dating Ginny. He had the perfect life.

Of course, this was until he couldn’t ignore the fact that he was different any longer. Yes, wizards aged slower than muggles, but this was ridiculous. While all his friends had grown up and matured, at 20 Harry still looked the same as he did back at The Battle of Hogwarts. To make matters worse, his family was beginning to notice.

So far, the worst he had gotten was questioning glances, and his friends dancing around the subject of his lack of ageing. Harry was intent on ignoring it for as long as he could, in hopes that he would just “reset back to normal” one day or another. The real slap in the face, however, was on his third official mission with the Aurors.

He and Ron were partners, of course, and they were one of the pairs charged with tracking down the missing Death Eaters. They had gotten a tip about where Antonin Dolohov was hiding out, and Ron insisted on being on the team that went to investigate. For better or for worse, the tip was true. He was hiding out in one of the old Gaunt manors scattered around the English countryside. With as sneaky as he was, it was no wonder they hadn’t found all of Tom’s lairs. Dolohov didn’t go down without a fight of course, and the last thing he managed to do was hurl a killing curse at Harry.

He didn’t have time to react.

Chapter 2: Prologue pt. 2: A meeting

Summary:

After being hit by Dolohov's curse, Harry is sent to have a talk with someone who has been waiting for him to die.

Notes:

Alright, I'm posting this on the same day I posted the first chapter, so I think thats an indication that I should do longer chapters. I was really excited for this one, so don't expect this to happen again! That way if it does, it'll be a happy surprise :)

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Harry came to back in King’s Cross Station. He sighed and looked around for Dumbledore, to see if he was going to get another choice to stay dead, or go back. If he did get a choice, he would definitely choose to stay. He wanted to see his parents, Padfoot, and Moony again. He grew increasingly irritated when he looked around and saw no one.

“If you’re looking for your old headmaster, he’s not here” said a voice right behind him. Harry jumped and spun around to meet a man that looked to be in his mid twenties. In all honesty, he was very good looking. Slightly taller than Harry, with hazel hair that fell down to his shoulders in soft waves. He was dressed in a nice emerald green suit that looked to cost more than anything Harry had ever bought. The only thing wrong, Harry noticed with a start, was that his eyes were pure white

“What- who, who are you, and why are you here?” Harry questioned, slightly wary of this strikingly handsome man.

The man chuckled and said, “Ah, master. I hoped you had figured it out by now. No matter, I can fill you in.”

“Master??” Harry sputtered, “hold on, figured what out? What’s going on? And again, who are you?”

“There are many names I go by,” the man said, smirking, “I am known as the ferryman between planes. The bringer of the inevitable. The End.”

“Am I supposed to know any of those titles?” demanded Harry. He was already annoyed by the person keeping him from seeing his family, and the vague answers he kept getting were grating on his nerves, “Alright, how about this- what name do you go by?”

The man seemed lost in thought for a while, obviously considering his answer very carefully. “I suppose the name that I feel most connected to is Thanatos,” he replied.

“Thanatos… you mean like the god of death?” asked Harry, “Like in Greek Mythology?” Harry vividly remembered sneaking into Dudley’s room whenever he wasn’t there to read the books that distant relatives always sent him for his birthday. It wasn’t like they were getting any use, anyway. His favorite book, however, was the one about the greek gods. He loved the beautiful tales woven through each other, fraught with danger and scandals. The one thing he especially loved was how flawed the gods were. That no matter how powerful they were, they still made mistakes.

Thanatos chuckled once more, “I suppose you could say that, master. However, I am no mere god. Think of me as the embodiment of death. I cannot be confined to a physical figure. I am.”

Harry pondered that, “So, how are you here? I can see you, and you have a physical form. How does that work?”

“This body is merely a portion of myself. It is a concentrated consciousness that I brought together so I could greet my master,” He answered

“Wait- master?” Harry recalled, “Like Master of Death? Like the tale of the three brothers? That was real?”

Thanatos cocked his head to the side, remembering the tale, “Yes. That tale is astoundingly accurate. However, I was not angry at the Peverells for avoiding me. I was grateful to them. I had long since wanted to gift humanity with something of my powers, and I saw them as the perfect vessels to pass my gifts onto.”

“So what does being Master of Death entail?” asked Harry, slightly warily.

“You are my conqueror,” answered Death, “You have amassed all of my gifts, and now are exempt from any of my influence. You are free from the curse of death.”

Harry jumped back as if he was shocked, “You mean I can’t die? No!” he yelled, “I don’t want this!”

Thanatos stared at Harry, confused. “What do you mean, master? You have been given a gift, yet you act like it’s a curse. Surely you would not choose to die. All mortals hope to escape death.”

“Not me!” Harry yelled, “I have had to live past the people I love, and it’s my fault they’re dead. I just want to see them. To apologize.”

“But you have the resurrection stone,” pointed out Thanatos, clearly confused, “All you have to do is use that, and you can see your family again.”

“You know it’s not the same,” answered Harry, deflating. He remembered seeing his family in the forbidden forest, and could tell that it was no solution, “I want to be at peace. I want to rest. I’m- I’m tired.”
Death looked at him with pity in his eyes, “My master, I can tell you that although your life will be full of struggle and hardships, you will find your time to rest and be happy. I promise you that.”

“So I really can’t die, huh?” said Harry, resigning himself to this fact, “will I come here every time I, um, for lack of a better word, die?”

“Yes. You will come here while your body recovers.” confirmed Thanatos, “Speaking of, I think your time is up, master. Good luck.”

Chapter Text

Harry woke up with a gasp to see the panicked blue eyes of Ron looking down at him. With a groan, he sat up and rubbed his chest where the curse had hit.

“Bloody hell, mate! I thought you were dead!” exclaimed Ron, “I mean I saw the curse hit, how are you still alive?”

Still disoriented, Harry hesitated before replying, “I- I’ll tell you later. Let's just get out of here. I need to talk to all of my friends together. I’ll answer all your questions then.”

Something dark flashed in Ron’s eyes that Harry didn’t have time to recognize, but he shakily smiled and said, “Sounds good. I suppose we should get back to Hermione and Ginny. I’m sure they’re worried, huh?”

Harry just managed to hold back a grimace at the mention of Ginny. Ron and Hermione kept pushing him to propose to Ginny, but something didn’t feel right about that. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he wasn’t meant to be with her forever. Yes, he loved her, but he just couldn’t imagine himself spending the rest of his life with her. Especially after what he just found out from Thanatos. Instead of voicing his thoughts, however, he gave a half smile to Ron and stood up.

“Sounds good. Is Dolohov locked up?” Harry looked around to see the other aurors on the team just starting to levitate him into a carriage that would presumably take him to Azkaban.

Ron nodded, “Yeah, they said they could handle him while I checked you over. They were pretty worried. Hell, I was terrified. Let's go home so you can explain all this to me.”

Harry rose to his feet shakily and felt for his wand. It was safely in his pocket. He supposed he should thank Thanatos for that. He pulled it out, nodded once to Ron, and apparated to The Burrow.

As he arrived, he was immediately bowled over by a very overexcited ginger.

“Oh, Harry! Are you alright? You didn’t get hurt, did you? Oh, I would hate for anything to happen to you! I’m so glad you’re back! Now tell me all about it!”

Harry blinked at the sudden barrage of questions coming from Ginny. Next to him, Ron apparated in with a smile, and went to kiss Hermione who was waiting patiently for him.

“I’m alright.” Harry placated, “I have something to tell you,” he said gravely as he ran his hand over his wild hair.

The mood shifted as he spoke, and soon all the faces in the room were as serious as his. As they made to move into the sitting room, Molly Weasley bustled in, checking over Ron first, and then Harry, making sure that there wasn’t a scratch on them. She gasped at the bruise on Harry’s elbow that was a result of him falling to the ground after the curse.

“Oh, Harry, dear. What a nasty bruise! You go sit down, and I’ll bring over some bruise cream and hot chocolate for all you kids. Now don’t you protest! I’m allowed to mother you dears after a mission!” she said cheerfully leaving the room. The four left moved to the sitting room, still sensing Harry’s serious mood, and wondering what it was about. Once they were all sitting down, Harry sighed, and began to speak.

“Ron knows this, but today, during the mission, Dolohov hit me with the killing curse.” he paused as gasps came from Hermione and Ginny, “Obviously, I’m still alive. The reason is because during The Battle of Hogwarts, I became the master of death.”

Exclamations of disbelief came from all three of the people listening to him. Harry continued, “Yeah, that was about my reaction too. The story of the three brothers was correct, and because I was in possession of all three hallows, I became the master of death. This means that I cannot die. Ever,” He finished, looking down at his hands.

“Oh, Harry,” started Hermione, “I don’t mean to say I don’t believe you, but how do you know this? You know that’s just a story” she questioned.

“Because I spoke with death, Hermione,” snapped Harry, peeved that she didn’t believe him, “I spoke with him, and told me that I was his master. Also, I came back to life. I’d say that not everyone else can do that, hm?”

“I was just asking,” huffed Hermione, “You have to admit it is pretty far-fetched,” she grumbled to herself.

“Well I think it’s wonderful!” Ginny broke in, “And don’t worry, Harry, I still love you, and I would definitely be okay with being the mistress of death,” she finished with a gleam in her eye.

“What’s that supposed to mean, Ginny?” Harry growled, suddenly dangerous.

“I- I just meant, after we got married, of course, I would be the mistress of death along with Lady Potter and Black. I’m just saying I wouldn’t mind, and it shouldn’t get in the way of our marriage,” Ginny floundered.

“Marriage?” hissed Harry, “Who said anything about marriage, Ginny?”

“Well we are going to get married, Harry,” Ginny argued, “You love me. We’re going to get married, and those will be my titles. Stop being so difficult.”

“Difficult? Difficult?” Harry yelled, “I never said anything about marriage, and here you are talking about the titles you are going to have. I haven’t proposed, so that means nothing is a sure thing yet. And I. Mean. Nothing.” Harry ground out.

“Oh don’t be silly. You two are going to get married, and Ginny will be the Mistress of Death.” Hermione chastised.

“Yeah, mate. You love each other,” Ron added.

“Do we?” questioned Harry, “Because I haven’t felt any love from you in a long time, Ginny.”

“Yes!” Ginny shrieked, her voice getting louder by the second, “We do! You love me, and we are going to be married! Then I’ll be Lady Potter-Black, Mistress of Death, and I’ll have access to all your fortune!” She finished, stomping her foot.

Harry reared back as if he was slapped. He couldn’t believe what he just heard from the woman he thought he loved. All she wanted was his money. She didn’t love him now, and she probably never had. He felt so foolish to have fallen for her scam so easily.

“Well,” Harry said, his voice getting eerily calm, “I can see that I have made a huge mistake thinking you loved me. I think I will leave now. Please don’t follow me.” Harry couldn’t process this. It was all too much. He needed to get away and think.

Ginny’s eyes widened as she realized what she had given away. She looked desperately to Ron and Hermione, hoping for their help in fixing her mistake, but Ron refused to look in her eye, and Hermione was getting redder by the second, furious at Ginny for making such a stupid blunder in their plan.

“Harry, I meant-” Ginny started, but Harry cut her off.

“I know exactly what you meant, Ginny. Good bye.” He finished coldly, apparating out.

After that argument, Harry moved back into Grimmauld place with Kreacher. He was happy to serve Harry, especially with all of the new power he radiated, being the master of death. Everything rapidly turned downhill from that day. Ron went to the ministry, exposing Harry’s status as the master of death, and claiming that he was turning mad with power. He said it was only a matter of time before Harry became the next dark lord, and would be unstoppable. Harry arrived at work the next day with a whole squadron of Aurors waiting to bring him in, with Ron in command. He had no choice but to run.

Chapter 4: Meeting

Summary:

Back at the beginning of the story.

Notes:

This chapter didn't come as easily as previous ones did. I tried!

Also, I'm not super happy with the ending of last chapter. I may go back and change it a little at some point. We'll see!

I don't own any of this really! Purely for fun!

Chapter Text

Harry was painfully aware of the slash across his back as he continued to run from the Aurors. He could feel the blood seeping into his shirt, and could tell that it was only a matter of time before he would get too light headed to run. Desperately hurling stunners over his shoulder, he could just make out where the closest apparition point to the ministry was ahead of him. If he could only get there..

Cold hopelessness washed over him as he realized he couldn’t go back to Grimmauld place. Ron, Hermione, and the rest of the Order of the Phoenix knew where it was, and he hadn’t bothered to ward it against them after he moved back in. He focused on just making it to the apparition point.

His eyes widened as he heard Ron’s furious voice yell, “SECTUMSEMPRA!” He felt the curse hit, and his body exploded in agony as he hit the ground. His vision clouded, and his mind went blank with pain. He couldn’t move. He could hardly think. He was vaguely aware of his body giving small twitches as it slowly bled out.

The Aurors surrounded him, and with his mind briefly emerging from the fog of torture, he thought finally, “I need to get out.”

Edward was driving back to the coven with Bella after school. It was about two months after he had tried to kill himself in Italy, and he still felt guilty about that whole fiasco despite his family’s reassurances that they understood. To be honest, he was embarrassed about his reaction to him hearing that Bella was dead. Yes, Edward cared for her, but lately he was beginning to realize how dull she was. Really, the only two things that interested him was the fact that she was his singer, and that he couldn’t read her mind. He was understanding that if it weren’t for those things, he wouldn’t even give her the time of day.

Edward was on autopilot, thinking about his revelations, when Bella’s scream jarred him back to the present. On the road was a small boy, no older than 16, in the process of falling down. His eyes widened as he slammed on the brake to maneuver around him. With several seconds of tire-screeching, the car jerked to a stop.

Edward turned to Bella to tell her to stay in the car, but he had already gotten out, and was walking toward the kid’s body. He sighed, and winced as the smell of fresh blood assaulted his nose. Edward held his breath as he approached the boy, and cringed as Bella gave a scream. Finally getting into eyeshot, however, Edward didn’t blame her. If he was mortal, he was sure he would’ve been sick. The kid was covered in deep gashes all over his body, blood pooling around his body like a faucet carelessly left running. The boy was getting paler by the second.

Remembering where he was, Edward lept into action. He grabbed a blanket from the back of his car(he started carrying one with him since Bella started complaining about him being so cold all the time), and wrapped it tightly around the most worrying slashes to stop the bleeding. He then carried him into the backseat of the car, and barely waited for Bella to get in before speeding off. As he drove, he called Carlisle to let him know of the situation.

“Carlisle,” Edward began as soon as he picked up, “We have a situation. Are you at home?”

“Yes I am, Edward. What’s the situation?” Carlisle answered seriously, hearing the urgency of the situation.

“Bella and I found a kid in the road covered in cuts and bleeding out. He’s in the car, and I’m driving as fast as I can, but it’s not looking good. I need you to prepare Jasper and everyone else for the amount of blood he’s lost, and I also need you to get ready to operate.” Edward explained. He knew that everyone in the house had heard what he just said, but he wanted to be sure everyone would be prepared.

“Will do.” answered Carlisle, “Are you alright? Have you fed recently, Edward?”

“I’m fine, Carlisle. I fed just last night. When was the last time you fed? This may be a worst case scenario.” Edward said gravely.

“I fed just today. It’s that bad?” questioned Carlisle.

“Yes. It’s going to be pretty close. We have to move fast.” Edward hung up, and sped up a little more, scaring Bella slightly. He only prayed he wasn’t too late.

Chapter 5: Pull

Summary:

Jasper feels something urgent.

Notes:

Hey guys! Oh my gosh. I am so so sorry that this chapter took so long for me to post. I really have no excuse. I've just been starting school, so I've been a little more busy, and not managing my time well at all. Anyway, I tried to make this chapter a little longer than the previous one, but I also wanted to end it appropriately and get this chapter out to you all.
Also, I've started watching supernatural because its like one of the only fandoms I'm not a part of so you can probably expect some fics of that too once I've finished. It will be a while though. I'm only on season two. Anyway, I hope you enjoy, and please leave a comment if you like it or have any questions! As always, thank you so much to all the people who have left Kudos or have Bookmarked this fic!
Now without further ado....

(jeez forgot about this) I don't own any of the characters in this fic because I'm poor, and if I did we would have a marauders tv show already.

Chapter Text

Controlled chaos was reigning at the Cullen household. Carlisle and Esme were methodically setting up their emergency medical room, while Alice was ranting to a flustered Rosalie about how she didn’t see any of this happening. Emmet and Rosalie were busy getting a room set up for every one of them that didn’t handle blood as well as Carlisle and Esme. They had built a scent-proof room for just this scenario. The only person who wasn’t doing anything was Jasper. He was standing in the corner of the room, content to be ignored by the family for the time being.

He had of course heard what Edward said. “Jasper and everyone else”. It stung. No matter how long he had been in the family, he was still considered the weakest one. Not that he didn’t disagree. He always found himself far hungrier than his whole family, and when he went to school, it took all his control to not lunge at the nearest human.

“Jasper!” Alice called, snapping him out of his thoughts, “Are you ready to go to the room? It seemed like Edward was driving fast.”

Jasper shook himself to get back in the present. “Yeah, let's head upstairs.”

Alice gave a huff of exasperated laughter, and steered him into the room. Jasper liked Alice, he really did. They were amazing friends, and they had been through a lot together. Contrary to the rumors at school, though, they were nothing more than that. They both realized that they weren’t mates, and were content to let the humans think that they were romantically involved. It kept them all from confessing their love to Jasper and Alice 24/7. He was really lucky to have such an amazing friend to keep him centered.

They sat in the room for about three minutes before they could hear Edward’s car screech to a halt outside, followed by two car doors slamming, and then another one slamming a few seconds after that.

“Great.” thought Jasper, “He brought his human.”

He had never liked Bella much. She was very bland. He couldn’t see anything about her personality that was very attractive, so he had to conclude that the only reason why Edward was so infatuated with her was because he couldn’t read her mind. And that was all it was, infatuation. He could always feel his brother’s emotions, and when Bella walked into the room, all he could sense from Edward was a spike of lust(probably just from her blood) followed by intense worry and curiosity. Sure she was interesting, but she was dangerous. She was unpredictable, and had no regard for her own safety. She actually wanted to get turned. Jasper didn’t think any mentally stable person would want that.

As the front door opened, Jasper suddenly felt a tug at his heart. He looked up, intrigued and excited. The closer Edward got to the room where Jasper was, the stronger that tug felt. It felt like longing. Like safety. Like being alive. He stood up and walked to the door, thoughts of bloodlust banished from his mind. Whatever was calling to him was far more important than feeding. This was his priority.

He started to turn the doorknob when suddenly Rosalie and Alice were in front of him while Emmett was grabbing him from behind.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” snarled Rosalie, “Do you have that little control that even the thought of some poor kid bleeding out makes you lose control?”

“No!” defended Jasper, “I don’t want- I just- there’s something out there that I really need. Just- please I need to find it.” he stumbled through his explanation, trying desperately to duck around Alice and Rosalie.

“You NEED something?” Rosalie ground out, pushing Jasper farther back, “Well I’m sure you can wait until after Carlisle and Esme are done.”

“It can’t wait,” insisted Jasper, struggling harder, “I just need- you wouldn’t understand, please-” he touched where the feeling was coming from, “This is something really important.”

Rosalie and Emmet’s eyes widened as he touched his heart, sharing a meaningful glance between them. Suddenly Rosalie blurted “Alright. Fine. I’ll take you to him if you promise to keep your cool.”

“Yes, of course. Anything.” Jasper replied, immensely relieved, “Thank you, Rosie. Can we-”

“Hang on, what is going on?” Alice broke in, “Jasper, you can’t just go out there! I expected better of you, Rosalie. You know he’ll lose control as soon as the smell of that kid’s blood hits his nose.”
“Alice. I promise I’ll explain everything to you as soon as this is over, but if we’re too late, Jasper could go into a frenzy and kill everyone here.” placated Rosalie, “We need to get Jasper there before Carlisle turns him.”

A low growl rose up in Jasper’s throat at the mention of Carlisle turning whoever was down there. Emmett broke in before Alice could say anything.

“Alice, please. Rosalie will be with him, and Edward, Carlisle, and Esme are down there too. If anything happens, they’re more than able to keep him away.”

“...Fine,” Alice relented, “But if anything happens, It’s on you two.”

Rosalie and Emmet nodded soberly as Alice stepped away from the door.

Chapter Text

Jasper and Rosalie burst into the room that the boy was in, causing chaos to ensue. Esme and Carlisle were instantly restraining Jasper while Edward stood off to the side in slight awe.

“Are you insane, Rosalie?” Shouted Carlisle, eyes flashing with anger, “How could you ever even THINK of bringing Jasper into this room! You heard he was bleeding and you didn’t put it together that-“

“Carlisle,” Edward broke in, staring at Jasper with a kind of confused wonder, “I- something’s different. I think- I think that this boy is Jasper’s mate.” Edward was a bit overwhelmed reading Jasper’s mind. It wasn’t as if he could sift through all of his thoughts anymore. There seemed to be only one thought repeated over and over again. “Mate”.

“It’s true,” Rosalie broke in, “He felt the same thing I did with Emmett. Look. He doesn’t even want to drain him. See his body language?”

Carlisle observed Jasper’s body language critically. It was different this time. It wasn’t any kind of frenzied fighting that usually happened when Jasper smelt fresh blood. Right now it was more of an insistent strain against his captors. There was no hunger in his eyes. They were glazed over and unfocused. It was as if all he could focus on was the bond between the two of them.

Carlisle sighed and loosened his grip on Jasper. He turned to Rosalie and Edward and warned, “If this kid dies because of Jasper, it’s on you. Understand?”

They nodded seriously as Carlisle let go of his hold on his son.

Jasper was by the boy’s side by an instant. He could feel the pulling in his chest getting stronger the closer he was to the man dying slowly on the metal table. He stopped for a moment, savoring the way the connection felt as his face was inches from his mate’s neck. He inhaled deeply, revelling in the sweet aroma that filled his sinuses. He was pulled out of his trance by Edward tentatively breaking in.

“Jasper. He’s lost a lot of blood. If you want to turn him, do it now.”

Jasper snapped back the present, and he took in the large amounts of blood pooling from the man. He took one last smell of the weakly beating heart inside, dipped down, and gently bit his mate on his neck.

Chapter 7: Waiting

Chapter Text

Harry’s eyes snapped open to reveal his emerald eyes. He immediately sat up and took in his surroundings.

“I must say, I didn’t think I’d see you back this soon, Master,” a voice spoke from behind him.

“Thanatos. I guess I didn’t survive that sectumsempra?” Harry replied, rubbing his neck where he felt a slight pain growing. “Where am I? It’s not King’s Cross.”

He looked around once more, finding himself in a very cozy lounge. It had bookshelves covering two of the walls completely, and facing those shelves was an armchair that reminded Harry very distinctly of the ones scattered about the Gryffindor common room. Facing towards an empty wall was a very nice desk made of dark oak. The one thing that stood out, however, was the lack of a door anywhere in the room.

“You would guess correctly, Master,” Death answered, “Do you like it? I made it for you. I thought you’d like somewhere more welcoming to go to when you die. With how soon you died after our last meeting, you will probably be in here a lot, and I wanted to make sure you had something to do.”

Harry observed all of the books in the room. Rubbing his aching neck, he smirked and said, “With the amount of books here, it would take me a lifetime to finish all of these.”
“Well, luckily you have at least one of those to spare,” Thanatos quipped, humor dancing across his eyes.

“Wow, Death has a sense of humor. Incredible.” Drawled Harry, “So do I get to know what’s happening while I’m dead? I don’t imagine the Aurors are being very nice with my body.” He winced and pressed a hand to his neck. The ache was spreading, and it wasn’t a very pleasant sensation.

Thanatos looked off into the distance, eyes going unfocused. “The Aurors don’t have your body, actually. In a burst of accidental magic, you apparated out.”

Harry looked up, surprised, “Really? Well that’s nice. Any chance you know where I apparated to?” He inquired.

“It appears that your body is in Forks, Washington. In the United States.”

“The United States???” Harry exclaimed, bewildered, “How do I even have that amount of power? Even Dumbledore couldn’t do that when he was, well, alive,” he finished, looking down somberly.

“He could, once,” corrected Thanatos, “When he was at the peak of his power, and before his magic started attacking him, he was one of the most powerful wizards in history. And you, dear Master, should not be surprised that you are this powerful. After all, you have conquered the greatest enemy.”

“Wait, his magic started attacking him?” Harry started, “How does that even happen? And why?”

“Magic is not a static force, master,” explained Death, “Contrary to what current wizards believe, she thrives off of balance. While wizards of western culture believe that dark magic should be destroyed, this belief is actually very detrimental to her. Light and Dark magic balances out, and this makes Magic flourish and sing. Albus Dumbledore was a light wizard, and because he was trying to eradicate dark magic, Magic herself attacked him.”

“But I thought dark magic was evil. I mean, all of the dark lords murder people. That’s not ‘evening out’ anything,” Harry retorted, confused.

“That is because modern wizards have lost the careful art of the dark magiks. Currently, dark magic is seen as evil because some of the rituals require blood. There are different uses for both. When Albus Dumbledore was born, Gellert Grindlewald was born with him to balance him out. When they worked together, they could do anything, and they were powerful. Unfortunately, Albus eventually grew to believe that because Gellert was using different magic than him, and doing more and more powerful things by embracing the dark magiks, he was evil and power hungry. If they had not had that altercation, they would have grown closer than ever, and their magic would be more powerful. They would have even been on the path to become the Masters of Death themselves.” Thanatos went on, “But because of Dumbledore’s selfish acts, they fought, Gellert died, and since then Albus’ magic has been deteriorating. When he first met Tom Riddle, and began trying to stamp out the dark magic in him, is when his mind started going too. Since then, he has led a war against dark magic everywhere, and has pulled many wizards off of their true path of magic.”

Harry’s mind was reeling. “So you’re saying that all of these wars- The wars where my friends died, where people suffered, where I was tortured- They were because of Dumbledore? Albus Dumbledore, my headmaster?” His voice was dangerously low, green eyes flashing in the warm lighting. He couldn’t believe that his whole shitty life was because of the one man who claimed to be helping him. He said it was all “for the greater good”, but in reality, it was all to serve himself. Harry couldn’t think rationally anymore, and the unexplained pain coursing through his veins were not helping him to remain calm.

He stormed over and threw the armchair across the wall. “FUCK!” He roared, “What the hell- why can’t I- why isn’t- why does everything hurt?” He suddenly retreated in on himself. Feeling smaller and smaller as he backed into a corner of the room.

“I believe that is because,” Thanatos began hesitantly, “A coven of vampires have found you, and chosen to turn you.”

Harry finally let everything go, and sobbed harder than he ever had before, with Death watching silently at his side.

Chapter Text

Harry was curled up on the cushy armchair clenching his teeth in agony. The pain was tearing through his body in pulses as the venom slowly reached every part of his body. Having collected his thoughts and emotions, Harry lifted his head to look at Thanatos

“Will I be turned? I mean-” he grimaced as a particularly painful wave flooded his system, “-I can’t die. And well, vampires are dead, aren’t they?”

“That is a good question, Master,” Death replied, “and unfortunately I do not have a definite answer as this has never happened before.” He paused as Harry snorted. “But I think that because your body cannot be turned by the venom until you have died, you will not be turned. At least not fully.”

“Not fully?” Harry questioned, “So I’d be like a vampire/human hybrid?”

Thanatos nodded. “Precisely. I think that your body will not completely reject the venom. I think that the venom will become integrated with your blood. It will be a very interesting process to watch.”

Harry decided to ignore that last comment, and instead ask, “So what will that mean for my body? If I have vampire venom in my blood, that would make some changes, right? What will happen to me?”

“Alas master, I have no idea.” Thanatos shook his head, “I suppose we will have to wait and find out.”

Harry sighed as he slowly got used to the throbbing pain racing through his body, “So how long will it take? How long until, I don’t know, my body settles, or something?”

“A normal turning can take from two to eight days, depending on the human. I would expect your turning to be on the longer side of things, as your body will be actively fighting every bit of transformation that happens.”

“Eight days, huh?” Harry sighed and leaned into the seat. “I guess I’d better find some way to pass the time, then.” He looked up at Thanatos, “Don’t you have a job to do? Like, collect souls or something? Guiding people to the afterlife and all that jazz?”

Thanatos smirked, “No, that myth is very exaggerated. The whole death process is very automatic. I usually have nothing to do at the time of a person’s death. However, death has a lot of paperwork attached to it, so I will have to leave and catch up on today’s work. I will leave you for now. The bookshelf will automatically tailor itself to your interests, by the way. It should keep you busy. I’ll check in on you, don’t worry Master.” And with that, Death left the room.

Edward, Carlisle, Esmee, and Rosalie stared in wonder at Jasper. It had been 3 hours since he had bitten the boy and Jasper had not moved from standing right above him, his piercing eyes flickering between worry and adoration as he stared, unblinking, at his mate. It seemed as if Jasper was trying to memorize every single inch of his face.

Edward, however, was conflicted. While this whole incident had gone down, Edward could read every thought of Jasper’s. He was worried. He didn’t know a mate bond was that amazing and intense. He had never seen anything like this before. He now regretted going on his “vacation from vegetarianism” when he did, because Rosalie had found Emmett during that time. If he had known Rosalie’s thoughts during that time, he supposed he would not be in the predicament that he was with Bella. Now Edward understood why Rosalie hated Bella so much. It was clear that she wasn’t his mate, and staying with her would ultimately hurt him and his family.

Rosalie huffed with fond exasperation as she looked at Jasper, and then made to leave the room. Edward, feeling some sort of desperation to confirm what he already knew in his heart.

“Was it like this? For you?” He whispered brokenly.

She nodded with forgiveness in her eyes, “Now you understand why.”

He nodded, his heart feeling as though needles were piercing through it, as she studied him closely. As much as he wanted to read her mind, he already knows exactly what she’s thinking. “Thank you.”

Notes:

so this was a short chapter, but I kind of wanted to end it here. This was a kind of hard chapter to get out. I initially was going to have harry be completely turned, but after the overwhelming comments wanting otherwise, and just the mechanics of what I want this story to look like in the future, I think I like how this is gonna turn out!

anyway! thank you(as always) to everyone who left Kudos, to everyone who bookmarked this work, and to everyone who commented! I especially love hearing all of your thoughts and predictions on this work, and I love connecting with all of you!

see you in the next chapter!

(and as always i dont own HP or Twilight) :(

Chapter Text

Harry groaned tiredly. It had been twelve days since he was bitten, and he couldn’t sense any changes in his body. Perhaps it was because all he could see was his “dead” body, which he assumed to be a manifestation of his soul. He put the book that he had been reading down and looked around. The books were piling up around him. He had been studying all he could find about vampires, and there wasn’t a lot of source material to pull from. What he could find out was that the Wizarding and Vampiric communities had signed a treaty about 600 years ago saying that they wouldn’t meddle in each other's businesses. The biggest point of the treaty was that any vampire that was unaware of the wizarding world before their turning would be treated like a muggle for the rest of eternity. Wizards who were turned were ousted from the Wizarding world, but were still held accountable for upholding the statute of secrecy.

Harry also found out that when a wizard was turned, their magic would slowly deplete. Because magic flows through a wizard’s body like blood, the turning process will stop the production of magic as it stops the production of blood. The wizard would have enough excess magic for a handful of spells before it’s depleted for good. They would have to live like a muggle. He was curious about what that would look like for him. Death told him he wouldn’t be fully turned, so what did that mean for his magic? Would he lose it? The very thought of losing what has kept him alive for so long made him shudder.

“Hey, Than!” Harry called out to Death.

“Yes, Master?” He replied as he faded into the room.

“How long do you think this’ll take? It’s already been longer than what you told me” Harry questioned, impatient.

Thanatos sniffed, affronted, “Well, Master, I told you the range it was for regular humans. You are not a regular human by a long shot. Please forgive me if you don’t fit neatly into my statistics.”

Harry huffed, “I’m sorry, you just told me eight days, so I assumed it’d be like seven. I’m just so booooored,” he groaned, “Can’t you speed it up or something? I’m sick of waiting.”

“No, Master, I’m afraid Time doesn’t like to be told what to do, especially when they’re being whined at,” He sniped back, “Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of time to move around when you’re part vampire.”

Harry sat up, “Wait, they? Time is an entity? Like you?”

“Yes, and she’s still grumpy at you for the time turner fiasco when you were thirteen.” Death answered, stil peeved at being ordered around.

“Hey, that wasn’t my fault! It was Dumbledore and his plans! If anything, Time should blame him!” Harry protested.

“Oh believe me, we have all taken that into account,” Thanatos smiled ferally, “He is getting exactly what he deserves in the afterlife, and it is immensely satisfying.”

“I bet,” Harry snorted, “and ‘All’? Who’s All? How many entities are there?”

“There are five of us,” Death recounted, “Time, Fate, Magic, Life, and me. We are the only constants in the universe.”

“Yeah, well Fate and I are going to have words,” Harry grumbled, “What are all of them like?”

Jasper was worried. His mate hadn’t moved in twelve days. He hadn’t flailed or thrashed around at all. He hadn’t even screamed. He was also confused. Instead of his mate completely healing, most of his scars were still there. He could pick out a starburst-shaped scar on one of his arms, and a long, smooth scar on the other. While the cuts had healed, a lot of them left thin, silvery lines all across his body. Luckily, the curious lightning bolt scar on his mate’s head was fading. He didn’t want to think about who would want to injure him in such a way, so he was glad it was going away. The other curious thing about his mate was his tattoo. Resting over his heart was a triangle with a circle on the inside and a line going through it. It was a strange color, too. Forest green. It had to be very new with how brilliant the color was. As much as he tried, he couldn’t comprehend the baffling marking. He had searched all through his memory for anything even resembling the symbol, but he found nothing. He supposed he’d have to ask his mate when he woke up. He would wake up. He had to.

The whole Cullen family was worried for Jasper. He had been standing in the same place for twelve days, not moving a muscle. Edward was especially tense. Bella had started pressing to come and visit the “newest member of her family” for five days now, and he was starting to get fed up. It astounded him at how oblivious this girl was about how brutal the turning process was. She completely underestimated how painful the whole ordeal was, and it seemed like she completely forgot that their hunger was what basically defined the vampire race. He could tell that everyone else was fed up with her too. They kept having to turn her away at the door, because Edward didn’t want to face her and her clinginess. Rosalie was the only one that seemed to not mind Bella continuously stopping by. She practically jumped at the chance to tell Bella that she was not welcome in the Cullen household right now(and preferably long after that, too).

Carlisle was intrigued. He knew what his son’s mate was. He knew what that tattoo stood for. Edward did, too. They were both old enough to have been there at the signing of the treaties. They were both bound by the statute of secrecy, so they couldn’t have told any of their family. Carlisle couldn’t even tell Esme. He was a little bit worried about Jasper because of this. He didn’t know how Jasper’s mate would react to the venom if he was the Master of Death. Then again, it could just be a tattoo. The boy could have decided to magic himself a tattoo of the Deathly Hallows(that’s how magic works, right?). He prayed it was the latter.

Alice was frustrated. She couldn’t see Jasper’s mate. It wasn’t that any future with him in it was blocked completely. She could see the scene just fine. When she tried to focus in on the boy, however, she couldn’t see him. It was like her mind skipped over him in any future she could see. The most aggravating thing, however, was that the further she looked into the future, the more people happened to be there that she couldn’t see. She sighed and rubbed her head. She was getting a headache.

Notes:

alright! so we changed a few things in cannon as you may have noticed!

The big thing is that Edward and Carlisle are quite older than the others
apparently in cannon Esme is older than Edward? and i did not know that, so i decided to ignore it anyway.
so yeah, Edward and Carlisle were the only ones of the coven old enough to know about witches.

And! Here's a pronoun list for our lovely entities! In case anyone wants to talk about them and not worry about what pronouns to use!

Death(Thanatos): He/They
Time: He/She/They
Life: She/They
Fate: They/Them
Magic: She/Her

If you guys want the pronouns of any other character, please do not hesitate to ask, but ive kept it all with cannon i think!

Ba-bump.

Jasper blinked in confusion.

Ba-bump.

Edward inhaled sharply and looked up.

Ba-bump.

All the Cullens were in the room. Edward, Rosalie, Emmett, and Esme stood against the wall staring intensely at the impossible phenomenon that was happening right before their eyes. Carlisle was by the preposterous boy in an instant, checking his pulse, checking to see if he was breathing, checking for any signs of life at all. He met Edward’s eyes briefly, and their faces reflected each other's curiosity and worry.

Jasper’s eyes had gone black with worry. It was clear to all the Cullens that he was on the verge of going on a rampage. He was looking up and down his mate’s body, frantically searching for a visible answer for what was going on.

“Carlisle.” Jasper said, voice dangerously low, not looking from his mate, “What’s happening?”

“I can’t say for sure. It seems like your mate’s body has been fighting the venom very fiercely. That’s probably why it’s taken him so long to turn.”

“And his heart?” Jasper growled at Carlisle, “Why is it going? Did the turning not work? Is he still human? What did I do wrong?”

Carlisle’s eyes met Jasper’s. “I don’t know. What I do know is when your mate wakes up, he’ll probably have more answers than we do.” They froze again as the boy started breathing deeply.

“I thought you turned him?” A voice broke through the tense atmosphere. All the vampires turned to see Bella standing in the doorway, eyes shining with greedy curiosity.

“Bella,” Edward said, his voice laced with warning, “You need to leave.”

“But, Edward,” she whined, batting her eyelashes, “I haven’t seen you in days, and he’s obviously still alive, it’s not like he’s a vampire. I was just curious.”

The whole coven was sneaking wary glances towards Jasper, waiting to see how he would react to this new threat to his mate.
Currently, his eyes were fixed on Bella with fury in his eyes that would scare even the Volturi.

“Edward.” Rosalie spoke softly, “Get rid of your pet.”

“Excuse me?” Bella shrieked, “I am not a pet! Edward loves me, and he’ll let me stay! Won’t you?”

Edward was staring at the ground, obviously guilty for bringing another problem into the room, “No, Bella. You need to leave. If you don’t, I’m going to have to force you out.” Rosalie looked up at this, obviously surprised at Edward’s cold response.

“No!” Bella shouted, stomping her foot, her face going red, “I want to stay! If you don’t let me, I- I brought a knife! I’ll cut myself!” She proclaimed triumphantly, holding up the knife for them to see.

At that point, Emmett roared in fury at the thought of her endangering the coven. Suddenly he was in front of Bella and had wrenched the knife out of her hand as she cried out in shock.

“Get. Out.” Growled Emmett, his eyes black.

Bella squeaked and was making for the door when a soft groan came from the bed.

Chapter Text

Harry was pissed. He had been reading a book about were-mice(he got a bit bored with vampires) and thinking about how he’d like to get a pet, when Thanatos appeared with a shit-eating grin on his face.

Harry huffed, annoyed and impatient. “What?”

“Bye,” Thanatos replied easily before Harry was yanked out of his armchair, hurtling through nothingness.

That had been an hour ago. He was now floating cross legged around the void thinking curses at Than. He had just started to have to resort to some very creative names when his body suddenly flashed with feeling. He paused, feeling every sensation that he could feel now that he was reconnected with his body. Everything felt about how he expected it to. He felt stronger, more in control of his body. He could also feel his magic and the venom flowing through him in equal parts, and breathed a deep sigh of relief that the venom hadn’t gotten rid of his magic completely. The only odd thing that he could feel was a strange pulling sensation that seemed to be getting stronger the more connected to his body he got.

Just as he started focusing on that feeling, however, his ears picked up on someone screaming as shrill as a banshee. Ginny? But she couldn’t be here, could she? He groaned out loud, mentally cursing Fate as he opened his eyes.

He started when who he assumed was the coven all stopped what they were doing and turned to look at him with varying degrees of panic and curiosity.

“Hello,” Harry said slowly, “It seems like you lot are in the middle of something, so, erm, don’t mind me? I’m just going to figure out how everything’s different now that I’ve been turned.”

Everyone froze until Carlisle stepped forward, hesitancy painting his face, “You know you’ve been turned? So you know what we are? What you are?”

Harry paused, considering, “Well the first two are easy. Yes, I know that you all are vampires, and I know you tried to turn me. ‘Tried’ being the key word as you have no doubt figured out already. So yes to the first two, and put an undecided down for the third question.” He replied, running a cold hand through his hair.

“How do you know about vampires? They’re supposed to be a secret! I’m the only human that knows about them!” Bella jumped in, her voice clipped with worry and jealousy.

“Bella. Enough. You’re lucky to even be in this room,” reprimanded Edward, shooting apologetic glances toward Harry.

Harry paused, looked between the two of them, looked around the room at the other vampires, and started chuckling, “So your pet’s out of control? You’d better get a handle on her, or she could end up in some dangerous situations for everyone involved.”

Rosalie smirked, and opened her mouth to say something when she was rudely interrupted by Bella shrieking, “I AM NOT A PET! You have no say in this, what would you know? You don’t even know me or the Cullens! I’ve been here longer than you have, and when I finish high school, Edward’s going to turn me! So if anything, you’re the one that should leave!” she finished, looking very proud of herself despite Jasper’s growling getting increasingly louder throughout her tirade.

Jasper had had enough. He was in front of her in an instant, grabbing her throat with his hands. “Don’t. Talk. To. Him.” he growled, low and dangerously. Bella winced and she nodded, eyes wide with fear.

Harry watched all of this with increasing interest. Honestly, watching them fight was more entertaining than the Weasley twins. He looked down as a sudden wave of sadness washed over him at the reminder of the friends that had betrayed him. As if knowing what he was feeling, Jasper looked over and met Harry’s eyes, and everything clicked. The pulling stopped, and he couldn’t look away.

“Oh," Harry whispered reverently, "A soul bond"

Notes:

Chapter 12: Questions

Summary:

He's awake!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

“A what?” Emmett asked, breaking the tense silence that had been sitting in the air since the new vampire(?) had exclaimed something about a soul bond. Jasper blinked, pulled back into the present, and looked to his mate, confused about his wording as well.

His mate looked around searching for someone who understood what he said. Seeing that everyone was looking at him with the same level of obliviousness, he sighed and muttered “right, muggles.” Much to the confusion of everyone in the room.

Looking up, he paused, and finally said, “A soul bond. I, erm, don’t know if I can actually tell you all anything about it, but it’s basically when two people are tied together by an all powerful entity.”

“Like God?” Emmett questioned, still looking very lost.

“Well, like a god, sure,” Jasper’s mate responded, looking very defeated, having realized that he was going to have to explain everything he said.

Before Emmett could keep pressing, Carlisle calmly interrupted him, “I’m sorry, but before we get into the fascinating conversations of what you are, I believe introductions are in order. I am Carlisle Cullen, the leader of this coven. This is my mate Esme, and our children Edward, Rosalie, Emmett, Alice, and Jasper. The human over there is Bella, and she’s currently with Edward,” Harry took note of how Edward winced as Carlisle said that, “As you apparently know, we are vampires, and Jasper is your mate, or your soul bonded, as you say.”

Harry nodded as he looked each being in the eyes, stopping at Carlisle. Meeting the boy’s eyes made Carlisle instinctively want to take a step back. This child’s eyes were fierce but weary, a stunning emerald green that was now flecked with gold and black. He could tell that the boy was examining everything about his environment, looking for any weaknesses and escape routes. This creature had no fear.

“I’m Harry. I would tell you my last name, but I am currently being hunted down, and I have no desire for anyone-” He glanced at Bella, “-to disclose my whereabouts, intentionally or not.”

Jasper felt a warmth filling his chest. Harry. His mate’s name was Harry! The name echoed through his body like the toll of a bell ringing through its tower. “That won’t happen,” Jasper spoke up, glaring at Bella, “Nothing that is said here will ever leave this room.”

Bella quickly started turning red, an action that caused Harry to once again be reminded of the Weasleys. Before she could say anything, however, she was cut off by Harry standing up.

“Thank you, Jasper,” He said, making eye contact once again with his soulmate, “I must say, with everything that has happened, I definitely didn’t expect to find my soulmate here. I thought I’d at least have to wait a few hundred years.” He replied, smirking.

“But you aren’t even a full vampire, we don’t know how you’ll age, or if you will at all,” Esme broke in, looking between Jasper and Harry, concern evident in her eyes.

“That’s a very good point, Esme, was it?” At her nod, Harry continued, “I do happen to know, however, that I will not be aging very much for the foreseeable future. In fact, I am quite certain that this won’t ever be an issue.”

“How do you know this?” Asked Alice, still a little miffed about not being able to see Harry’s future clearly, “From the looks of it, you didn’t know what was going to happen to you, either.”

“Hm, and that is another thing that I will not be revealing in present company. We could definitely discuss this in a more private setting, but currently, this is as much as I can say.” Harry answered, again looking at Bella distastefully, marvelling at how red she was getting.

“Well we can certainly change that,” offered Jasper, also glaring at the human. She seemed to sense that her blustering wasn’t getting her anywhere, and she started looking around shiftily.

“H-hey!” She stuttered, “But you need me in here! You can’t do this without me!” She protested.

“And why is that?” Snarled Rosalie, “What possible reason could we have to keep you around?”

“Because,” she paused, glancing around, looking like a cornered rat, “Because I already told Jacob, and I’m the only one that can talk them out of hurting your coven-“ She shrieked at Jasper’s enraged snarl as Emmett struggled to hold him back. Edward hadn’t moved.

“Bella, how could you?” Edward’s voice broke with anger and sadness, “You endangered the whole coven just because you didn’t want to be left out? You could’ve killed us all!”

“Well, we all know that Jacob will listen to me, and now you have to keep me here. They’re probably on their way right now.” Bella exclaimed triumphantly. She looked spitefully at Jasper and Rosalie, who was now being held back by Alice and Esme.

“I’m sorry, I may be missing something,” Harry broke in, taking in the scene unfolding around him, “But who’s Jacob? And why is he such a danger?”

Carlisle looked to Harry, just remembering that he was there, “Ah, sorry, Harry. Well, you know about vampires. Jacob is a werewolf. He has a pack, and vampires are their sworn enemies.”

Harry paused, confused, “Alright. But why are they such a danger now? It’s not a full moon, they’re perfectly harmless out of the moon.”

“That’s a common misconception, actually.” Edward spoke, “Werewolves don’t just turn on the full moon. They can turn at any time.”

“Erm, no? Believe me, I know what a werewolf is. I’ve met quite a few in the past, and believe me, it’s quite a spectacle to see them turn on the full moon.” Harry responded quizzically.

“You’ve met werewolves?” Emmet exclaimed, “And you’re still alive?”

“Well, not that they didn’t make that difficult,” Snorted Harry, “But yeah, I’ve met and fought werewolves, and here I am? It’s been mostly dumb luck, to be honest.”

Jasper let out a distressed whine that was not unlike how Sirius would sound when he was a dog, and he felt sadness flood back through his mind. “You fought against werewolves?” his voice was strangled with worry. “Why were they fighting you?”

Harry laughed incredulously, “Well they didn’t have a choice, did they? You know they can’t control themselves when they turn. You’re not one of those people that thinks werewolves are monsters all the time?” He saw Edward look down in what seemed to be shame, “They’re not responsible for anything that happens during the full moon. They are as much victims as the people they attack are. Granted, those people usually die, so a little less of a victim than that.” He chuckled to himself.

“Well now we know you’re lying,” Alice stepped in, “You’ve never met a werewolf, all of your facts are wrong. You should know if you did that werewolves can phase whenever they choose, and are in full control when they change.”

“She’s right,” Bella sneered triumphantly, “Werewolves are completely different from what you think you know about them.”

“Okay, well there has to be some sort of disconnect here,” Harry reasoned, “I know what a werewolf is, and you think you know what a werewolf is. What you seem to be describing, though, is an animagus. Do these wolves have any other ‘unnatural abilities’?”

“No, they’re just werewolves. Big, messy, and smelly” Rosalie answered. Harry got the sense that she didn’t like anything that endangered her family.

“Well in that case, it sounds more like a pack of half-werewolves, or hereditary werewolves. They are descended from a bitten werewolf, so they can ‘phase’ as you say, but they have more human in their blood, so they can usually keep their heads.”

“That would make some sense, I suppose,” Carlisle conceded, “How do you know about all of this?”

“Oh, well that’s because my godson-” He broke off and looked at Jasper with anguish in his eyes, “Teddy.”

Notes:

Aaaaaand another chapter!

I hope you liked it! I tried to make it longer! Thank you all for waiting!

Chapter Text

Harry surged out of bed, panic filling his intense eyes, “I need- how far away would you say England is?”

Edward blinked, confused, “About seventy-five hundred kilometers, why? Even with vampires, that’s a long ways away. Surely nothing’s going to happen to your godson. Why would it?”

“He’s being hunted down,” Rosalie jumped in her eyes filled with understanding, “The people wanting to hurt him will probably look for his weaknesses. One is obviously Harry’s godson.” Harry noticed Rosalie’s attitude shift towards him, her face softening at the mention of his godson.

“Bingo,” Harry said, half smiling at Rosalie, “So I need to get to him as quickly as possible. If I’m being hunted down, Teddy and Andy are the first people they’ll go for. Ah, I should also go to the American government and ask for sanctuary, shouldn’t I? Alright, I’ll do that next. Oh, can I also get some pants?” He blushed as he looked down, glad the Cullens had the foresight to cover him with a blanket as he woke. His thoughts were bouncing around from one idea to the next, jumbled with the knowledge of everything that had happened in the last month.

As Alice handed Harry a pair of Jasper's pants, Carlisle spoke, “Harry, I know your family is important, but I don’t think it’s safe to travel right now. According to Bella-“ he broke off, staring her down, “-we have a pack of wolves that are soon to arrive at our doorstep. That needs to be the top priority.”

“As much as I hate the idea of your family endangered, Harry,” Jasper spoke up, “Carlisle is right. If we’re going to go to London to get your godson, first we have to deal with Jacob and the pack.”

Harry sighed, resigned to having to expose his magic already, “Alright, I’ll help you. But first, the human needs to go.”

The vampires were surprised at Harry’s earnest intent to help them, and Esme made to assure him that they couldn’t possibly ask for his help so soon after his turning, but Bella beat her to speech.

“Stop calling me human!” She screeched again, ignoring everyone’s wince to her voice, “And I’m not going to be kicked out! I belong here! I’m going to be turned, and everyone will like me better than you!” She blinked as she was suddenly outside the house, the door slamming shut behind a smirking Rosalie.

Harry breathed a sigh of relief as Bella was now no more than dull pounding on the door. “Thank you. She was getting on my nerves.”

“I really am sorry for her,” Said Edward, “I don’t know why she’s acting like that.”

“That’s okay. Judging by your attitude towards her, you don’t like it any more than I do.” Harry replied, having been starkly aware of how much Bella and Ginny were alike.

“So you’ve fought werewolves?” Emmett prodded, obviously eager to swap stories.

“Yeah, a few times, but the ones I fought were full werewolves, so they were much stronger than the ones you’re familiar with.” Harry replied, his eyes clouding with memories, oblivious to the awe and slight panic filling the vampires’ expressions, “It’s tricky, too. Most of the werewolves around truly don’t want to hurt anyone, so you have to restrain them until the moon goes down.”

Jasper’s breath caught in his throat. “How did you manage to restrain werewolves as a human? That’s barely possible for us. Is that how you got all those scars?”

Harry blinked at the barrage of questions coming from his mate. “Slow down there, love. One question at a time. But you did get one thing wrong. Care to take a guess?”

The vampires rewarded Harry with a blank stare, except for Carlisle and Edward. They both traded wary looks.

“You’re not human,” Edward muttered, staring at his feet, “You’re a wizard.”

“Correct!” Harry cheered, getting up off of the table. He marveled at how strong his legs felt. He started walking around, feeling his body and figuring out how it moved now that he was “new and improved”.

“What! Dude, that’s crazy! Wait, like magic and shit? Is that why you didn’t turn all the way?” Emmet was practically vibrating at this point, not believing what he just heard.

“Yes, although I’m pretty sure ‘magic and shit’ isn’t the proper term for it, that is why I didn’t turn all the way.” Harry skirted the truth, hoping the vampires had never turned another wizard before.

“But that’s not possible,” Carlisle broke in(Harry groaned inwardly), “When wizards are turned, their magic will deplete until they become a regular vampire. I don’t think there’s ever been an instance where someone actually stayed alive after being turned.”

“Can we have this conversation later?” Rosalie broke in, eyes slightly panicked, “The wolves are on their way, and we need to figure out a plan. If they know we bit someone, the treaty’s broken. We’re no longer safe.”

Everyone sobered up immediately. “Well, I could probably help,” Harry jumped in, now standing comfortably next to Jasper who was frozen in place, trying not to panic. “We can try to solve this problem diplomatically, but if that doesn’t work, I’ll use my magic. I don’t know what's going to happen with it, but I should have at least enough to scare away some dogs.” He smirked, clearly excited for some action.

“Thank you, Harry,” Esme answered, “I do hope it won’t come down to fighting, but if it does, we’re happy to have your support.”

Harry politely inclined his head at the proclaimed matriarch of the family, and was about to answer when Edward suddenly stiffened.

“They’re here.”

Chapter Text

“They’re here.”

“Here? Like at the door? I can’t hear them,” Harry replied, a bit baffled. He assumed his hearing would be very similar to a vampire’s now that he had (partially) turned.

“That line of questioning may have to wait, Harry,” Carlisle dismissed as the group moved towards the door.

And wasn’t the front yard an interesting sight? Surrounded by a very large pack of wolves, and being stared down by a muscular black-haired teen, was Bella looking very stupidly brave. At the sound of the door opening, the wolves looked up towards the vampires in unison.

“Well, well, well,” The leader of the pack growled, stepping closer, “Look who it is. The traitors. Guess we should’ve known that a bunch of parasites would never keep their word.”

“Jacob, there is an explanation for this. There’s no reason for any violence to happen today or in the future,” Carlisle tried to placate, raising his hands.

Jacob scoffed, moving Bella to the side, causing her to stumble a bit. “The explanation is that you just turned a human, and now there are consequences, Carlisle. You knew this would happen, you have to pay the price.”

“You’d rather us just let someone die? We saved him!” Esme retorted in disbelief from beside Carlisle.

Jacob advanced on the family, spitting, “You cursed him to live a horrible, monstrous, parasitic life! Any kind of death is better than that!”

“Okay, whoa, doesn’t the subject of this argument get a say?” Harry cut in, sensing that there were precious moments before this conversation devolved into a fight. From what he could see, this was all just one big posturing contest, both groups itching for a fight to prove their worth.

“I think the important thing to note is there’s no reason to fight, guys. Let’s use our listening ears, what’s different about me than the rest of my vampire friends?” This question caused the wolves to stop their slow advance, heads turning in confusion.

It was a smaller wolf that turned back to human first, eyes shining with childlike curiosity. “He has a heartbeat! How?”

“You said that they turned a human, Bella, what’s this?” Jacob turned on Bella accusingly.

Bella spluttered, looking between the two packs of hostile supernatural creatures. “W-well, they tried! But I guess it just didn’t take or whatever? I don’t know, he was on the brink of death when I saw him last, now look at him! Obviously he was turned! Look! He looks perfect! Like nothing ever happened!”

“That’s called healing, Bella. It’s been thirteen days, people heal.” Rosalie scoffed, glaring at the girl with the scorn that comes with years of hatred.

“But not that well! You should’ve seen him, he was dying!” Bella fired back, pointing at Harry.

Harry sighed from his place beside Jasper. “Your name’s Bella, yes? It seems like your mind has exaggerated the condition I was in when this family was helping me. Sometimes when you see a lot of blood, things seem like worse injuries than they are. I was very cut up, yes, but nothing was life-threatening.”

“But- but there were so many cuts! He didn’t even scar! That means he’s a vampire for sure!” Bella fumbled, voice getting shriller by the moment.

“He does have scars. And I don’t see how that’s any of your business, Bella.”

Everyone froze momentarily as Jasper spoke up, and he was used to this happening. Usually when there were arguments or big emotional discussions, he tended to fade into the background, trying to find his own emotions through the barrage of everyone else’s. What he wasn’t used to, however, was the warm presence of his mate leaning into him as he spoke. It was almost as if his speaking up for him made Harry more comfortable, and god, wasn’t that an intoxicating thought.

Harry squeezed Jasper’s hand once before stepping forward, “The facts are this: my heart is still beating, I am not a vampire. They didn’t turn me. I’m sorry this is my first impression with all of you, I’m sure you’re all lovely people, but if you don’t mind I’m in the middle of a family emergency. So please have a wonderful rest of your day, I’m looking forward to meeting you all properly later. Goodnight.”

And with that, Harry turned back into the house, followed by Jasper and the rest of the coven, leaving behind a baffled pack of wolves with a fuming girl.
