KNY Phobiatober 2021

Summary:

Fear can be a very overwhelming emotion, especially when there's a direct cause of it. Come and read what happens when your favorite characters are facing their own fears...at your own risk of course.

Notes:

So this year I have been wanting to try this Phobiatober prompt list. I will warn you I fully intend to go full throttle so if one of the fears or this isn't your cup of tea please turn back now. Other than that do enjoy!

It's not beta read.

Chapter 1: Day 1: Taphophobia-Buried Alive

Chapter Text

It honestly was one of the worst things that could happen to someone like him.

All his life he just wanted to go on adventures like deep sea diving, skiing down mountains, exploring places people only dream of. There was just one thing holding him back from it and it was the irrational fear of something that never really happened to him. Perhaps it was the fact there were always risks of avalanches on snowy mountains, mudslides from mountains after horrible rains, or rocks falling on him when in a deep sea cave.

There were so many ways that being buried alive could happen that it kept Genya from doing the things he wanted. All because of theories of what could happened if he were to dare to do any adventurous or daring things for fun.

Not like his brothers did. No they were not held back by the fears that plagued him which meant while they were out there exploring amazing things, he was stuck at home reading books of the things he wanted to do. It was...discouraging to think whenever he tried to plan a trip the moment he saw where his brothers were going the first thing he thinks of is how it could put him in an early grave.

Maybe that's what made him decide to try and face it in the cemetery.

He knows it's foolish, that agreeing to let two guys who tended to pick on him and his friends bury him...but he was desperate at this point. Two years of therapy didn't help him, meditation and medication for his horrible anxiety didn't help him. Perhaps the best way to get rid of it is exposure therapy. After all even if these guys are total dicks they wouldn't try to kill him.

I just want to go on adventures with Sanemi...that's all I want...I know it would make him happy too...

"Hell, I didn't think you'd show up."

Genya blinked as he's drawn out of his thoughts to look at the guy-Sekido, if he remembered correctly-and swallowed thickly. Sekido was one angry son of a bitch. He was known for starting fights and attacking teachers for looking at him or any of his brothers wrong, perhaps that's why he was the de facto leader of the Hantengu brothers. He even looked angry all the time with his furrowed brows and semi permanent scowl.

He hesitates and looked around a moment He can't remember the last time he saw the graveyard so empty. Usually during the day there were people out and gathered to pay their respects to their loved ones or friends who had passed. Now it just looked desolate as he swallowed thickly. Slowly he moved forwards

"Well? Let's go," Sekido turned and started leading him forwards, startling the younger boy before he followed the older one. He can't help but look around, expecting the other brothers to come jumping out at any moment and make fun of him. When nothing happens is when he starts to calm down slowly.

"Aizetsu, he's here! Is the fucking hole ready?!"

There's a horrible sinking feeling as he could feel his skin crawling. Any calm he felt was no longer present as he looked to see they were headed for the tree line between the woods and this graveyard. He swallowed thickly as the younger brother comes into view. He looked rather unhappy covered in dirt and holding a shovel in his hands. His eyes land on Genya before he stepped back slowly.

Sekido hummed as he slowly circled around the hole himself; with the sun going down the hole looked so dark. Almost like there was no bottom with how the shadows cast over it. He hummed in thought, stroking his chin a moment before he nods with a rather smug smile.

"Good work, Ai. It's perfect."

When Genya walked up for a better look at this hole, he could feel his heart beginning to beat hard. It suddenly felt hard to breathe as he tugged on the collar of his shirt. Sweat started to form on his palms as the air felt suddenly cold. He swallowed thickly as he hugged himself with a shudder. Images of things falling on him, crushing him while he was unable to move, the pressure and the way his body was growing tense...

"Well?" Sekido hisses softly in his ear, startling him, "Get in."

Genya swallowed thickly, "...N-now?!"

Aizetsu could be heard sighing from behind the two, like this was all just a waste of time as Sekido's hands are suddenly on the younger boy's shoulders. He hummed softly as he started to push him towards the edge, Genya shouting as he starts to panic loudly.

"Ghh! Wait! N-no not yet...! Not yet...!"

"Don't you want to get over your fear, Genya? You seemed so desperate to do this when we offered to help you..."

He gasped as the edge of the hall started to give out from his attempt to stop the pushing. His breathing hitches as his eyes widen when he tilted forwards with wide eyes.

The plummet seemed so surreal as the world slowed for a moment. Then it speeds up almost like it was fast forwarding as he now longer feels the surface under his feet.

CRACK!

A shout escaped him when his ankle breaks upon impact and he loses his balance as he ended up hitting his head on what felt like a hard rock. It leaves him stunned his eyes wide as his thoughts felt like they were chaotically swimming with no real direction in them. He blinked and fluttered his eyes a moment as the voices from above him were talking.

"Quick we got to hurry."

"Sekido...this doesn't seem safe."

"And? The shit's brother keeps failing Karasu despite how hard he studies! Don't worry, this is just to spook him."

"Seki..."

"Aizetsu, just shut the hell up and help me or you can go in with him. You're fucking choice!"

Genya groaned as he slowly raised his head...before he feels something being rained down on to him. At first it starts light, if a bit grainy as it showers on to his back. Then it did it again and again as he started to push himself up. Then without warning a more heavy amount lands on his back and his hands slip under him. He hissed as he winces in pain. His head was pounding and all he could do was wonder what was happening.

Once again he pushed himself up not realizing that what was falling on him was building up around him until he raised his hands up...

Dirt. Dirt was falling on him.

His hands began to shake as his eyes slowly widened when his mind comes back to him. More and more dirt is pushed in rising around him more and more with each use of the shovels to get it all in. Genya moved to the wall, wincing as his ankle dragged painfully behind him. He dragged his nails on the wall, his eyes wide as he started to panic.

"H-hey...hey...!" He shouted out as he moved to the wall of the hole, "Th-that's enough please!"

"Oh?" Sekido's voice calls from above, "But you're not fully buried yet Genya."

"Wh..." he shouts when some dirt gets in his face, making him fall back on his back.

He feels the dread swallowing at him, as adrenaline started to take over. He immediately rolled on to his stomach and started to claw at the dirt to help himself to his feet. However with each time he started to get up, heavy dirt landed on his back or head to make him lose balance. Before he knew it the dirt was up to his knees, then his hips, then his waist...

He once again tries to claw at the dirt wall in earnest, eyes widening as the amount of dirt increased and came down faster.

Soon it was filled up to his arm pits as he struggled.

It was like his lungs were constricting, his body almost seizing with each rapid breath as he tried to reach up towards them for help. The dirt soon was surrounding his neck.

Breathe...breathe...please breathe...breathe or you'll die..

"S...stop...! Sekido stop...!" His heart was beating in his ears as he stared at the men standing over him.

He coughed when dirt falls into his mouth, making him cough harshly when he feels the dirt on his chin. He felt like the earth that surrounded his body was a fist that gripped his legs and body to keep him trapped in place.

It..it was worse than anything his mind has ever conjured. The earth was nothing like heavy rocks, slippery mud or even icy snow like his imagination conjured before. He feels it starting to rise over his head as he closed his eyes tightly and coughed. The dirt almost banned together to keep him in place as his stomach churned with his fear overtaking him.

His head was almost completely covered as one of his hands is still above the surface.

What he hears before the last bit of soil is thrown over him is Sekido's muffled laughter...before everything goes dark,
