Chapter Text
It was night, the moon was shining brightly over a grave. There stood a young man with bright red hair who stared at the inscription on the tombstone in front of him with contemplation.
“Mother” he whispered with exhaustion clearly seen on his emotionless face, before caressing the necklace he was wearing with a complicated feeling.
Talking alone in the night to a grave, he would be taken as a crazy person if anyone saw him, but thankfully there was nobody. This place is a rather secluded area, usually nobody would come here and even less in the middle of the night.
“Mom” he said a bit louder as he tightened his grip on the bottle of alcohol that he was holding in his hand.
The bottle was empty, even though he drunk all of it, his mind was clear despite the blush on his cheeks that was very noticeable.
He let go of the bottle, and it fell down soundless on the grass. Then, he sat down and hugged the cold stone of the grave, the grass was crushed under the weight of his knees. Just by looking at the plants around it, it was obvious that nobody visited it for a while. Everything was dirty, the stone was covered with some old moss and dirt, there was even some missing parts of the tombstone.
Noticing it the young man smiled sadly in apology, for not being able to take more care of his mother’s resting place for a long time.
“You said that you missed the sky. The fresh breeze of the morning hitting on your face every day. The beautiful sunset that could be seen from the ship.” He said as he stroked the name with his fingers that was on the grave.
“I am now all alone, I have let go of everything. I can now grant your wish. So I hope you forgive me for disturbing your sleep.”
Letting go of the tombstone, he proceeded to dig with his two hands the grave, dirt began to taint his delicate noble hands that never did labor. It took a long time before a small hole appeared on the ground, as he was removing away all grass, it left him some small cuts on his finger. While he dug deeper, his hands that were not used to this kind of labor began to form some blister and the cuts began to stings because of the dirt. Despite all of that, the young man uncaring about his own body dug faster, until he hit something hard.
His face showed no emotions but his eyes glistened in joy, trace of tiredness could also be seen. He dug for a long time so sweat was dripping down his forehead and his clothes were stained with dirt and grass.
After a few hours, he was able to completely dig out a small part of the coffin where his mother laid. He stopped and took a break where he caught his breath before breaking the coffin open with a stone.
As he opened the lid, with some difficulty, because the coffin was at least ten years old and had been underneath the ground for quite a long time. A skeleton that was still being decomposed was shown. The young man was prepared to see how much his mother changed from the time where he saw her being buried deep down the ground.
It really felt like a stab in the heart seeing her once again, but in this kind of appearance. The mother from his memory became a lifeless skeleton, and the same dress from the day of the funeral could be seen.
Painful memories began to surface as he gently grabbed his mother’s hand. But then something unexpected happened, the hands moved as if they were alive and grabbed his hand, and a book appeared in his hold. He stared in shock at the skeleton before letting go of the book and grabbed the bone hand tighter.
“Mom?” He asked with some hope and confusion, his mother died but the skeleton clearly moved on its own. He clearly felt hopeful but this kind of feeling didn’t last long, and finally turned into disappointment when he saw that the skeleton turned back again to a unmoving position.
Taking ahold of the book that had fallen into the ground, he got up and stared at it with curiosity. Just when he opened it a familiar handwriting that he had not seen since a long time appeared before his eyes.
“To my child Cale henituse.”
Excited, he tried to flip over the other pages but it was all blank. Feeling sad that there was only a few words written from his mother, he sighed and contented himself that there was still something left by her. The day she died, everything that was from her was thrown out. Because his father couldn’t take it, everytime he looked at her belongings it reminded him of her. He chuckled in happiness but then cringed when he felt his abdomen wound hurting him.
“That damn punk.” He said as he was referring to the bastard who beat him up, wanting to relieve the feeling a bit he held his stomach in pain.
Because Cale was holding the diary with his bruised hands, some blood went on it. Panicking that the only thing left from his mother was going to be stained by blood he tried to clean it. But the pages seemed to be absorbing the blood and soon the diary began to shine brightly.
Cale stared baffled by what just happened and witnessed the diary transforming into a light that went directly inside his chest. As he touched the place where the diary disappeared, Cale suddenly felt an intense headache. There was so many informations passing through his head, and it was all the knowledges left by his mother that was being engraved on his mind.
A flush of magic began to flow through his vein, the wounds on his hand started to close and his eyes began to glow a beautiful red.
When all of it finished, he lays down on the grass and inhale a mouthfuls of air.
Cale stared at his hands and waved them, water dancing in the air appeared. With a flick of finger fire popped out and he directly threw it toward the coffin.
Cale looked at the burning coffin that turned into dust with nostalgia in his eyes. With another move from his hand the skeleton of his mother that became dust was put inside a necklace.
“Mom, I’ll make sure that you see the sky again. I will find your ship.”
Not looking back at the place of his birth and the territory where he had grown up, he departed deeper into the forest remorseless, but not before making sure that the grave was like its original state. As if nobody has dug it out, looking abandoned and lonely like before.
His mother always told him secretly that she was a witch. She was a witch that flew in the sky with her flying ship. Cale always believed his mother, and seeing that she never mentioned it in front of his father he never did as well.
He sometimes saw her looking at the sky with some nostalgia. And while she gently patted his head, she would say how she missed the sky and traveling.
After her death, Cale Henituse who was always the calm and good son had a big personality change. Now he is someone known as trash. The ungrateful and wasteful son of Count Deruth and Jour Thames.
He always had something that was holding him from going to find the ship that his mother talked about. But now he was kicked out, there was nothing holding him back.
His father left him some money, it showed that he still cared for him. But Cale did not take it with him, as taking it would make him linger longer in the Henituse territory and make it harder for him to get away.
He would follow the path of his dead mother. He would find the ship and live just like how she did in her youth.
Flying up in the sky and being free.
