Chapter 2: Bucky Barnes - The Gift

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

It was Christmas Eve, aka the day when people get last-minute gifts for others, which is such a hectic day. Of course, you forgot to get a certain someone a gift. You've got the rest of the Avengers a gift; however, you forgot to get James Buchanan Barnes a gift; you had failed to get him something while you were out Christmas shopping before because every time you thought about what to get him, you panicked and pushed his name to the bottom of the list of people you had to get gifts for and now, he was the number one on the list. And now you couldn't push his name down.

It was only the morning, so good for you. You could probably leave the compound without anyone seeing you and stopping you to ask questions about where you are going in such a hurry.

You quickly pulled on the coziest pair of pants and socks you could locate and a nice sweater. You promptly hurried down the compounds hall and headed to the door to grab your shoes and jacket when paused to see James Barnes also grabbing a pair of shoes and jacket; where could he be going, you thought, that's when he noticed you standing there. "Oh, hey Y/N, you going out?" He asked, "Hey, uh, I have to go find a last-minute gift for someone," you responded, rubbing the back of your neck because you felt bad. After all, the person you forgot to get something for was him, and you couldn't just tell him that. "You going to the city by any chance? Because I sorta forgot to get Steve and a couple of other gifts too.. " he uttered. Now you felt worse cause you were going to the city to get him something and you wanted the gift to be a surprise, but you couldn't just lie and say no "yeah, actually I am, want to come with me?" you asked "sure" he answered with a soft smile so you grabbed your jacket and shoes and the two of you headed out the door.

It was almost noon when you and Bucky took a cab to the city because you both knew if you took one of Tony's many cars, you would never be able to find a parking space in the mess of people. You and Bucky headed into the first store. "So, what do you have in mind for a gift for Steve?" you asked, "I was thinking a wallet, the one he's got now is falling apart, what did you get him?" "oh, I got him a new journal cause the one he's got now is almost full." The two of your conversations went as follows: Bucky talked about what he had in mind for gifts for your friends, and you told him what you got them.

It was almost four now, and the sun was starting to go down, and you still haven't gotten a present for Bucky Barnes. "So, you never did tell me who you forgot to get a gift for because it seems you got one for everyone." Bucky asked, "Oh, it's just a family friend you wouldn't know them." you lied. "Maybe I can help you pick one out." He asked. "Oh no, it's okay. I can find something," you said awkwardly because you didn't want him picking out his gift that would make you feel even worse for pushing his gift off. "Alright, is it okay if we go into a couple of more stores?" He asked, "of course."

After going into the last couple of stores with Bucky, you still hadn't gotten him anything. The main reason you have been stressed about getting him a gift mainly concerned the idea if you got him something he didn't like, and what if you got him something the others already gave him, and what if he already had it. Now you still didn't know what to do without a plan out asking him what he wanted, so that's what you did.

You and Bucky were heading towards a giant Christmas tree the city puts up every year when you decide to ask him the question. Before you got a chance to speak, he spoke up, "It was me you didn't get a gift for, wasn't it?" he asked, turning to look at you, "yes, I forgot to get you something" you guilty said putting your head down unable to look him in the eyes "It's just I didn't know what to get you, and I didn't want to get you something you already had or didn't like, and Steve was busy every time I went out so I couldn't ask him-" you rambled on but were quickly cut off by Bucky grabbing your hand and softly clutching it "Hey it's okay, I got a gift from you already." Bucky said with a smile growing on his face. "What? What do you mean you already got your gift?" you asked. "My gift from you was being able to be with someone I care for on Christmas or, well, Christmas eve." he added, quickly; you started to tear up you been so worried about what to get him and didn't bother to think about what he actually wanted, and it was to spend the time of the holidays with you "oh Buck.." you whispered as you released your hand from his and pulled him into a warm embrace.

After a bit, the two of you pulled out of the hug and walked hand and hand around the city, enjoying the endless amount of Christmas decorations until it was time to head back to the compound.

Notes:

A/N: I hope you guys enjoyed this even though it ended up being cheesy, lol.

Chapter 3: Pietro Maximoff - Oh Christmas Tree

Chapter Text

Decorating the Christmas tree was always your favorite part of Christmas, especially decorating the tree among friends and family.

But, of course, none of the Avengers were in town around the time you wanted to set the tree up, or well, the ones who enjoyed setting it up weren't around, and the only person that was around was Pietro.

Wanda and Vision went on a vacation to who knows where leaving Pietro behind to bother you during this holiday season. Of course, Pietro was the Grinch around the holidays because he never understood why he had to be thoughtful when getting a person a gift and why he couldn't just "speed threw the holiday." as Tony likes to put it.

"What are you doing?" Pietro asked, looking down at you on the floor. "going through this box Clint gave me to see what we have for Christmas decorations." you said, pulling a tree skirt out of the box decorations, "wanna help?" you asked him. He let out a scoff, "I could decorate this tree with my powers in a second," "Oh come on, that would ruin the Christmas spirit." you said, getting up from your spot on the floor. "whats a Christmas spirit?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "it basically when someones cheery and friendly around the holiday. And It seems like you don't have a Christmas spirit." "I'm cheery and friendly," Pietro argued. "Sure you are, but it's just when it's the holidays, your just a stuck-up grinch," you argued back, and he let a hmph. "it's just the holidays are so boring," he whined. "Then maybe for once, you don't use your speed to get stuff done in a second, and maybe you wouldn't be so bored." you said, "okay, okay. Just for today, I will help you decorate without my powers to prove the holidays are still boring, with or without my speed." Pietro bargained, "Alright then."

You quickly put some Christmas classics on, and you told yourself the speedster probably wouldn't even last thirty minutes, but you had a little hope that he would, and he would enjoy one of your favorite holidays. "What first?" he asked. "Lights, here take this," you answered, handing him a string of lights you had, and he strung them around the top while you worked on the bottom.

To your surprise, he got through the lights without his powers, and now you started with the actual ornaments. You gave him half of the ones in the box, and you got the other half, and he looked to be enjoying decorating the tree with you and to think he was just telling you he was going to be miserable.

Pietro was finishing up with the ornaments as you walked over to the box of stuff to see what else there was when you noticed something shiny.

"Hey, speedy," you called out; Pietro turned to you, and you threw some silver tinsel in his direction, hitting him in the face. "Hey!" he laughed as he rushed over to you, wrapping you up in it, making you look like the tree, and you both let out laughs.

You managed to get out of the tinsel and put it onto the tree with a few candy canes, "What else do we have to do?" Pietro asked, looking over to you. "All we have left is the tree topper," you said, pointing over to the star that was rested on the table. "Alright, grab it and come over here." He instructed; confused about what he would do, you followed his order and quickly grabbed the star and walked over to him. "Okay, ready?" he asked, and before you could say anything, he picked you up onto his shoulders so that you could reach the top; he held you sturdily, so you were not to fall, but was gentle while he held you up, you quickly put the topper on and he set you down as softly as humanly possible.

Pietro looked in awe at the fantastic work the two of you had just completed, and you could feel your face start to heat up quickly, so you turned away so he would not see you, but that didn't work. "Hey, you alright?" he asked, trying to turn you around so you would face him. "Yeah, I'm fine," you replied, trying to control the redness of your cheeks. Pietro laughed at your attempts to hide your blush "what?" you asked. "Nothing, nothing," He said with a pause "it's just, thank you." he continued with a warm smile.

You paused for a second, confused why he was thanking you, and he seemed to notice your confused expression. "Its just thank you for getting me not to use my powers, cause I feel like if I did, I wouldn't get to experience the real 'Holiday spirit'" he spoke, giving you a soft kiss on the cheek. You smiled and placed your hand in his before turning to look back over to the tree while the flickering lights softly illuminated your face.

Chapter 4: Matt Murdock - ER on Christmas Eve

Notes:

A/N: I don't know any medical things, so if any doctor things I wrote sound terrible, I'm genuinely sorry.

Chapter Text

It was Christmas Eve, and of course, you had the night shift in the emergency room; you hated working holiday shifts because every time you did, the only people who were to come in were drunks who got into fights and people with cooking burns.

So far, it was a slow night with some drunks here and there and no cooking burns; people must be eating out instead of cooking.

You were admiring the Christmas tree the hospital set up in the waiting room when two men came in; one had an arm slung over the others shoulder while his other hand held a walking cane, "Foggy, I'm fine." the one with the cane said as they arrived at the check-in desk. "Matt, you're not okay. I found you on the floor of your apartment-" The man supposedly named Foggy whispered yelled as you cut him off. "Hello, how may I help you two today?" you asked them. "Yeah, hi, I uh was wondering if you could give my friend Matt here a check-up. He uh-" "Fell. I fell in the apartment and he thinks I  got hurt." Matt said, cutting Foggy off. "Okay, follow me, and I'll make you sure you didn't bruise or sprain anything," you say to Matt, offering a soft smile to his friend, who looked angry but also nervous for his friend.

Matt denied the wheelchair you offered him, so Foggy helped him make his way to an exam room because he could not put his weight onto one of his legs; and Matt sat down on the table "okay, um, ill be right. Outside okay, Matt." Foggy said as he left home, leaving you and Matt, "Okay, can you take your shirt off so I can check to make sure nothing happened to your shoulders and ribs." You requested, "Alright." He said, unbuttoning his white button-up, revealing his upper body.

As you were checking his shoulders for and sprains, you decided to make conversation with him so it'd be less awkward than just examing this poor man in silence, "So Matt, you got a last name?" You asked, moving your hands down more near his collarbone. "Murdock." He answered, not paying any mind to your desperate act of trying to make conversation because he didn't even want to be there in the emergency room at almost midnight on Christmas eve. "Alrighty, Matt Murdock is going to exam your ribs now, okay," "You're wasting your time; I'm fine." He uttered, and you sighed, "Listen, I know you don't want to be here, but your friend out there thinks you might've hurt yourself, so let me just finish up examing your ribs, and I'll let you go and just tell your friend you need pain relievers and rest, okay?" You said counting with the exam, and he didn't reply.

After a couple of seconds, Matt spoke up, "You know what, I never did get your name." He asked, "Y/N, my name is Y/N," you answered. "So Y/N, do you have any plans for Christmas?" "Nope, no plans. What about you?" You asked, moving your focus to his other side. "I have no plans ether." He replied. You were happy, to say the least, that he started talking to, but your happiness soon faded when you touched a specific spot on his side, and Matt flinched at the pain, and you could tell something was wrong. "Matt, were you punched?" You asked, "Umm, yeah. I sorta got mugged; they probably thought I was an easier target because I'm blind." he responded, "Matt, you should've told me earlier." you sighed, "I hoped you at least showed them whos boss." you joked, and Matt laughed "I managed to get a few hits in."

"Alright, Matt Murdock, you can put your shirt back on; you're not seriously hurt. You have a bruised side; I'm recommending you take ibuprofen and put ice on the area to relieve pain, and do not wrap anything tight around your ribs while they are healing." You recommended as Matt rebuttoned his shirt.

As you were about to leave the room, Matt spoke up, "Oh Y/N, if you're still not doing anything tomorrow for Christmas, would you like to come with me to dinner at the Panna II Garden in the East Village around six?" he asked, "Sure, I'd love to." you responded to him as you left the room.

Maybe working the night shift on Christmas eve wasn't such a bad thing.
