Chapter Text
You wake up to your blaring alarm. You quickly shut it off and try to get out of bed, but the arms holding you won’t let go.
A muffled “Stay” is heard.
“You know I can’t, this is my first day of work. I need to go.” You push at the hands and the man surrenders allowing you to climb off the bed while gentle snoring is heard afterward.
You go and take a shower. You’re excited. You’re going to work with THE great Doctor Otto Octavius, the best in the field of fusion. You can’t believe that from all the candidates he chose you.
You finish and go back to change. Your lover is still sleeping soundly. Before you leave you go and kiss him.
“Good luck” is drowsily uttered and he goes back to the dream world.
You arrive at your destination, and you stare at the building trying to calm yourself.
You enter, take the card key from the front desk, and go to the top floor. When you enter the lab, you’re greeted by “Nosce te Ipsum” carved above the main entranceway that houses the lab. You see that you’re the first one there, and you look around disoriented. Not knowing what to do.
“Who do we have here?” a soft-spoken voice asks.
“I’m Dr. Octavius’s new assistant. F/n L/n” you say and turn around to see the other person and you freeze.
“Ah! You’re early, very good. Trying to impress me, are you? I’m Dr. Octavius. Welcome to my team.”
You scarcely hear him over your pounding heart. This can’t be Otto Octavius, can he? He was every photographer’s nightmare, no one could get a picture of him. The only photo available was the one when he just finished University and it doesn’t do him justice. He’s tall, sturdy build like a 1950s weightlifter, wavy auburn hair frames his kind espresso-colored eyes, and an aquiline nose is followed by a welcoming smile. You gulp and go down. A brawny chest can be seen through his maroon turtleneck sweater, strong firm arms ending with calloused hands, and long fingers, that don’t support a wedding ring.
You take his extended hand and shake it. “Glad to be here.” You manage to compose yourself enough to say.
“Let me show you to your desk.” He says in his baritone voice and guides you through a door to your new workspace.
It’s a simple room with a desk full of papers and a computer.
“As it was stated in the job description, I need you to run the equations for my fusion reactor and that way maybe I’ll finally have my papers organized. Do you want to see my machine?” he asks you softly.
“Do I want to? It’s like you’re asking me if I want to see the Library of Alexandria. Of course, I do!” this earns you a deep laugh from the doctor.
He leads you to a device, with four metal half-made arcs “This is my design to initiate and sustain fusion” he talks like a proud parent.
“I’ve heard that you use harmonic of atomic frequencies.”
“Sympathetic frequencies.” Octavius corrects you lightly.
“Harmonic reinforcement? Like an opera singer shattering a wineglass with her voice.” You utter in amazement.
“Go on.”
You have his undivided attention “An exponential increase in energy output.” You finish your thought.
“A huge amount of energy. Like a perpetual sun providing renewable power for the whole world. I have to say you’re not what I was expecting. It should seem that you know more about physics than you let on in your CV. Can I ask you why?” He eyes you with a raised eyebrow.
“The job description didn’t require it.” You state simply, this wins you a chuckle from the tall man.
“Ah! But now I know and you’re now my victim! I’m just getting started.” He imitates a villain’s laugh and you can’t help but laugh with him.
“Doctor Octavius? You’re needed in the conference room” A young man calls him.
“Yes, Raymond. I’ll be right there.” He turns his smiling eyes to you “Well, I’ll leave you to it. You can start working on the papers on the desk. Good luck.”
Before he leaves, you stealthily manage to take his picture. After he’s gone from sight you send the picture to your lover.
‘Look who’s my new boss. THIS is Dr. Otto Octavius. What do you say?’
The reply comes quickly ‘That is impossible!’
‘Tell me about it. I was gawking at him while he spoke. I hope he didn’t notice. 🙈’
‘Are you trying to make me jealous?’
‘In part, I’m stating facts. Why? Is it working? 😇’
‘We’ll see when you get home. 😈’
‘🙊’
‘I’ll pick you up when you finish work. This way, I’ll also have the opportunity to test some theories regarding your new employer.’
‘All right. See you soon. 😘’
‘See you soon.’
You put your phone in your pocket and start working. Not before long, it’s 5 o’clock and you officially finished your first day of work.
You prepare to leave when you hear Dr. Octavius calling your name. You turn to see him walking towards you. You didn’t see him at lunch break since he’s that busy.
“Y/n, I didn’t have the time to see how you were doing on your first day. I apologize for that.” He says with a gentle smile.
“Don’t worry. Everything was all right. I meet the rest of your team, I sorted through the papers, and tomorrow I’ll start to type up the equations.” you tell him smiling.
His eyes widen “You already sorted through all the papers? You work fast! Keep this up and in a week, you’ll have nothing to do.” He jokes.
“I’m certain that you’ll find something for me to do.”
The allusion in your voice doesn’t go unnoticed by the large man.
“Don’t tempt me.” His smile stretches crinkling his burning eyes.
Your phone rings with a message and you throw it a fleeting look.
‘I’m here and I also tested your dear doctor.’ That piques your interest.
“I’m sorry to keep you. I’ll see you tomorrow” he hastily says and goes back into the lab.
You go down and in the front of the building is your lover. Dressed in a dark blue three-piece suit, with a brown coat and polished leather shoes. The only oddity is the cane in his hand. This is Maxim Horvath, and he looks almost identical to the man you left in the building. The only physical difference is the hair. He has short-styled hair in a dark chocolate color and compared to the clean-shaven doctor, this man has a beard. You go and kiss him.
“How was your day, sweetheart?” his deep British-accented voice asks.
“Good. What did you find out about Dr. Octavius?” you ask curiously.
“Well, it seems it’s just happenstance that we look similar. We’re not related in any shape or form.”
“That’s good. I don’t think I could handle two of you.”
He takes you in his arms and kisses you passionately “I do believe I promised to teach you a lesson when we get home,” he says smiling wickedly at you.
“I can’t wait, Sir.” And with that, you start your trip home, being held tightly by your lover.
