Work Text:
Greetings my dear
How are you?
Are you healthy?
Or do you have the flu?
What has been happening
my dearest wife?
What have I missed
of our son’s life?
Why I am writing
is for me to tell
how Pershing is helping
the war go well
The weather is stormy
and many soldiers die
but at least we are not
in the eye
As you may know
the boy next door
does not have a father
anymore
He was sent over
and up he blew
to the sky
which he drew
The trenches are
so very cold
From explosives which
were the mold
The Germans
while very strong
cannot seem to see
what is wrong
We brought supplies
all of the kinds
and they cannot seem
to find their minds
So my love
as difficult it is to write
I do not think
I will leave this blight
My beloved wife
it was hard to part
but just know that
I love you my heart
