Chapter Text
It was stormy and miserable when I recieved the call; a miracle in its own right, there shouldn't have been any signal.
It was destiny, no doubt about it.
"Ah! Leiya-Chan, how are you?! I've missed you so m-"
"Bisky, what do you want?"
"Ne, is that anyway to speak to a friend? A friend who loves and values you with all her heart?"
"Seriously, what is it? Money? Do you need money?"
"Ah, you're all business. Alright, I could use some help training some students, and you could probably learn a thing or two."
"Thanks, but I've had plenty training and I'm kinda busy. Where even are you right now?"
"But it won't be training for you! And ah, well, I'm not there yet but I'm on my way to the Balsa Islands."
"What? That's in the middle of nowhere, the hell are you going there for?"
"To train my students! Now do you want to help me or not?"
"Christ, Bisky, I'm in the middle of an acid hail storm, gimme a second to think."
I tried desperately to ignore the strange cyclone forming in the distance and focus on the offer.
I do owe Bisky a lot for helping me work out my Hatsu... But honestly she probably owes me more. Then again, if I had never met her I wouldn't have all these great experiences and- Though it would be a long, expensive journey all the way to the Balsa Islands...
"Ooh, that sounds interesting, where are you?" She piped up with deceptively childlike curiosity.
"Hush. Thinking." She gave a resigned grumble and the reciever thunked against something.
Stay in this nightmare rainforest, collecting data about an unknown, giant, monster species that might not even exist, or go see an old friend and enjoy the luxuries of civilisation again?
"Alright, I'll come visit." I announced with a defeated sigh. I doubt I'll be missing anything here. The rumours about the mythical beasts were probably just that anyway; rumours.
"Yay! Oooh, you'll love it I pr-"
"Not for free!" I cut in.
"You owe me new arm braces, fifteen lunches, however much it's gonna cost me to get there, and 100,000 Jenny for that weird rock you made me buy!"
"Sure, sure, no backing out!" Something told me she hadn't heard a word.
"Please, just tell me where to meet you before I change my mind."
The second I boarded the plane, I was completely reliant on electricity. It was as if I hadn't just spent the past three months sleeping in trees and bathing in rivers.
In no time at all, I found myself outside a homely apartment complex, hardly bothering to check the address. The dense aura inside told me I was at the right place.
A knock on the door with the right number, and next thing I knew I was in the middle of a domestic argument.
"You're a fool if you think you're in any position to make demands!" Screamed a familiar stature of pink and yellow.
"Yeah?! Then why the hell are you here if not to train us!" Countered the whitest boy I've ever seen.
"Hello, can I help you?" Asked the young boy that answered the door. But I hardly heard it over the shouting behind him.
"I SAID I'd help! I never said I'd hold your hand, you little brat! You should be grateful I'm here at all!"
"Right, you probably have some great grand kids to visit!"
Eying the black haired boy who was waiting patiently for my answer, I heaved a sigh.
"I didn't realise she wanted me to train children..."
"Eh?" The boy intoned loudly, and the duo seemed to notice the intrusion.
"Leiya-chan! You really came!" Bisky crashed into me with a tiny hug. I was never going to get used to being taller and older looking than someone more than twice my age.
"Wh- Of course! What the hell do you think 'yeah, I'll come' means?!"
"Perfect timing, I can't handle that boy right now." She announced haughtily and stormed out of the apartment, with an aura that screamed 'do not follow me'.
"Ne, how do you know Bisky?" The boy asked in the wake of her dramatic exit.
"Um, we're friends. She sort of trained me, I sort of hired her. Uh, she called me here to help train some of her students. That you guys?"
"Eh? Bisky really won't train us anymore?"
"Good riddance." Murmured the boy behind him.
"Killua, you should go apologise."
"No way, she's the one wh-!"
"Alright, SHUT UP!" I flared nen menacingly, seeking to prevent another argument. They stared.
"I've been on a study trip for THREE months in the wilderness, and spent EIGHT days straight travelling to get here to do my friend a FAVOUR. I am EXHAUSTED. So, start training or go to bed, whatever you do, Shut Up."
Upon pushing past the boys and into the room, I found a woman watching from a nearby doorway.
"You a student too?"
"N-not hers, no. My master's name is Knov. He is-"
"Got it. Where can I sleep?"
"She... she never mentioned another guest.." she trailed off.
I looked around. This was the lounge, that room there looks like a kitchen, then there must be two or three bedrooms and a bathroom.
"I'll sleep here, then." I announced and plonked myself down on the couch. I let my overfilled backpack and coat collapse messily on the floor in front of it, then settled in for a good night's rest.
Two minutes and a hushed conversation later, a poke interrupted my rest. I opened one eye to find the black haired boy cautiously staring.
"What."
"I'm Gon, and this is Killua. That's Palm, this is her apartment." He said, then bowed politely.
"Goodnight."
"Hm." I grunted.
"I'm Lei. Night."
At that, the boys shuffled to the middle of the room and began using ren.
One moody teen, one goody two shoes. Great.
