Chapter Text
Shōta's phone rang as soon as he stepped foot into his home, he quickly pulled it out seeing that Midoriya was the one calling him. He let out a long sigh, praying to whatever higher power that the Problem Child wasn't attacked by a villain not even an hour after leaving campus.
"Yes, Midoriya?" Shōta asked, as he answered the call, lightly rubbing the bridge of his nose hoping to soothe himself out of a possible headache.
"Aizawa-sensei, she left me. Packed all of her things and left." Midoriya answers back, sounding slightly angry followed by a couple of sniffles.
The hair on the back of Shōta's neck creeped up as a chill ran up his spine. Is he talking about his mother? Did his mother leave him like that? He needs the answers so he can get to his Problem Child.
"Are you talking about your mother? Did she leave you a note or anything stating why or when or both?" Shōta asked calmly, his mind racing a mile a minute wanting the facts quickly in order to take action.
"Yes, Sensei, and she did. The only thing the note says is that she's sorry and that she can't sit back and watch me become a hero against her wishes anymore," Izuku answers with a bit of venom in his tone.
Shōta felt the tell-tale signs of his quirk activating as anger filled his veins. How could a mother walk out on their child like that? All because they're chasing after their dream? What the fuck is wrong with his mother that she can't even support her own son on his dream?
"Okay, Midoriya, listen to me carefully," Shōta started slowly, trying to reel in the burning rage building in his chest, not wanting the kid thinking he was in trouble for something that was out of his control, "I want you pack up whatever you have left in that apartment that you wish to keep, I'll be there in thirty minutes to get you and while I'm on my way there I'll be calling Nezu to inform him that I'll be taking you in as my ward for now, okay? After I pick you up, we'll be making a trip to the station to file a child abandonment case against your mother and we'll see about one of your family members collecting you at a later date. Does that sound good, Problem Child?"
"Aizawa-sensei," Midoriya sighed, sounding absolutely defeated, "my mother is my only family member. There's no one else, after the station, I can just go to a group home until classes start back up. I don't want to burden anyone more than I have to."
Shōta's eyebrows pinched in anger. So she literally left him all alone in this world? Why would he think that he's a burden? A pain in the ass? Yes, but a burden? Never.
"You're not a burden, Problem Child, I don't know where you're getting that from but you're not, and as for the group home thing, there's no way in Hell that I'll leave you to the system. The foster system is shit and I'm not going to allow you to go through any of that. I know what those places are like, lived in one for fourteen years and it was absolute Hell. So I'll just take you on as my foster son, that way I know you'll be safe and cared for, and there's no room for argument on this, understand?"
"Yes, I understand sensei," Midoriya states, sounding a little more like his determined self, still sounding slightly angry, how curious, but determined nonetheless, "I'll pack up the rest of my belongings then."
"Good," Shōta responds with a little more gruff, "I'll head out then and I'll call the rat on my way over."
"Stoat," Midoriya corrects.
Shōta's train of thoughts stuttered, "W-what?"
"Principal Nezu is a stoat, Sensei, not a rat," Midoriya states in a matter-of-fact tone, as if it were completely obvious.
A Cheshire grin forms on Shōta's face. Is this Problem Child already getting sassy with me? He's not even legally in my care yet and he's already rising up a challenge? He thinks maybe taking Midoriya in won't be so bad especially if he gets to see this side of him. Most certainly refreshing compared to how the kid normally acts at school and around others.
"Whatever," Shōta grunts, even though he has a fond smile growing on his face, "I'll give the weasel a call as I make my way over to you."
"Better," Midoriya giggles, sounding a lot better than he did at the beginning of the call,"I'll be ready when you get here, Sensei."
"Good, I got a phone call to make and a car to drive, see you in a bit, Problem Child."
With that he ends the call slipping his boots back on and walks right back out of the door. Shōta is not even aware of how interesting his life is about to become, it won't be unwelcomed, but it'll certainly be a surprise.
