Salt in the wound

Summary:

Tommy just moved to the small beach town of Rocas Arqueadas, and as he makes friends with an odd kid named Tubbo, finds a dead body, and manages to make friends with an odd family no one seems to know, he starts to notice that he has got himself tangled in a fishy situation.

or,
here is a siren AU

btw themushroomsociety if you see this- i love you series: ABCs of Dark SBI :0 i thought it was so cool so this one is for you :))

‼️DISCONTINUED‼️

Notes:

Hi!!

mildly exited about this one. i've been wanting to do it for a second and its finally happening!!

a few things to clear up: Rocas Arqueadas is Spanish for arched rock. i named the town in Spanish because this town is based off of the town from Ghosts by Reina Telgemeier. so i thought it would be fun to give it a Spanish name because of that.

this is dark!! it is also my first dark fic so i am trying to figure out how to write this certain AU so plz plz be patient with me.

though I do appreciate constructive criticism. i know my spelling will sometimes suck but i also would love to become a better writer so if you notice something i need to work on go ahead and tell me!

and if you can plz leave kudos- it gives me serotonin to write :))

Chapter Text

Tommy stepped out of his parents car and was hit by a cool breeze, sending shivers down his back. You wouldn’t expect it to be so cold at a beach town, but this place didn’t seem to be like other beaches Tommy had been to.

To be fair, he didn’t usually go to beaches, they never had time to do that, what with his dad and moms work.

But this place was just weird, the ocean could be heard from their new house’s front driveway, the salty air making his hair frizzy, the wind sounded like a screaming soul, and clouds made the place feel gloomy and almost haunted.

“Ok Tommy, here is your stuff” his mom placed down a few boxes in front of him, all labeled ‘Tommy’s Things’. His dad unlocked the front door and they stepped inside.

The house was small but it was ok, it had a stair case leading to the upstairs and a living room to his left, and a kitchen attached to that. There was also a door to his right that he found was a guest bedroom.

“K kid, go up and get your room situated, the movers are gunna help us with your bed and stuff” his dad ruffled his hair.

“Alright” Tommy sighed and began up the stairs, carful not to trip with the boxes in his hands. When he got to the top of the stairs he was met with three doors, “hey dad, which is mine?” Tommy yelled down the stairs.

“uh, I think it’s the one to the left” his dad replied. Tommy hauled his boxes to the door farthest to the left, it was a small bedroom, painted in a light blue, with the ceiling angled to a slant indicating that the roof was right above him. there was a small window seat next to a window with no screen, making so he could probably climb onto the roof if he wanted.

It was cozy, Tommy had never liked big rooms, they made him feel vulnerable.

He could hear his parents moving around downstairs, and occasional gasp as his father bumped into countless objects. His dad wasn’t very coordinated, and the new house obviously wasn’t helping.

Tommy didn’t know what to do until the real furniture was brought up by the movers, so he made his way to his window opening it to let in the salty breeze. He had to admit the view was really nice. from his window he could see his backyard, but beyond it was a ledge dropping down to more of the town and then, the ocean. It expanded into a grey and green mass beyond the bay his new town was situated in. If it wasn’t so cold, Tommy would be on his way to the beach right now. But it was September and he was not going into that water. Not without a wet suit and a few heating pads. though maybe a beach walk would be nice. Tommy unpacked a few more things and then walked downstairs to find his parents assembling the couch.

“Hey imma go on a walk, just to see the town.” He said as he tied his sneakers. His mom frowned “I was hoping to go on a family walk later though.”
“We can, I just want to get out some energy, that car ride was really long.” Tommy stood up and walked to the door “ill be back in a bit I promise!”

He slipped out of the house and began to walk in the general direction of the beach. He didn’t really know where he was going but he was just happy to be out and about.

Tommy wasn’t lying when he said the car ride had been long. It had been a 2 hour drive from his old home in San Francisco to the town of Rocas Arqueadas. Where clouds constantly blanketed the sky, and humidity seemed to be omnipresent.

Now Tommy had rounded a corner and saw a road that ended in a wooden fence, blocking a shear drop from cliff to beach. As he walked closer to the edge tommy saw a stair case carved into the cliff face. Fun.

Tommy took two steps at a time as he bounded down to the beach. It was the shape of a half moon, with the town resting on the cliffs above. He walked across the rocks to the water. Waves beat at the shore and in the distance he could see a rock with the middle seeming dug out, making it look like it was arched over the water.

Tommy decided to walk farther down the beach, towards the docks. He wanted to take of his shoes to feel the water but he also knew it was probably freezing. Maybe in the summer he could go swimming. Was it possible to surf the waves here? The waters seemed pretty calm but maybe that would change with a storm.

He eventually made it to the docks and noticed there was also a board walk of sorts. He made his way to the wooden docks, a few people were walking around and buying things like fish and other crap you can get from the ocean, all fresh at the docks.

Tommy was looking around when he noticed a old as fuck arcade. It looked like it had been built during the last world war but maybe it would have something fun to do. technically Tommy had to be home soon but a little bit of fun wouldn’t hurt.

He made his way inside and was met by a surprisingly decent set up. Newer games were scattered around but there was also a mix of older games. He pulled out a crumpled five dollar bill from his phone case and fed it into the coin machine. It gave him his coins and he walked over to the game area. Tommy had played a lot of these games already, him and his friend Freddy had loved to go to the arcade on weekends back in San Francisco. The arcade there had been a lot more impressive than this one but it still had some pretty good games.

Tommy walked over to a basket ball game, trying to see how many tickets he could get right of the bat. He slotted in his coins and the game started up. He began to take shots at the hoops, making most of them in, he and Freddy used to play this game a lot and see who could get more baskets. Tommy always won, and anyone who told you otherwise was a wrongen and a bitch.

Tommy played a few other games, but as time went on, he noticed a guy watching him. he was tall, taller than Tommy. With a mop of curly brown hair and stupid harry potter glasses. He wore a yellow sweater and he was staring right at Tommy. What the fuck.

Once they made eye contact the man started walking towards Tommy with a stupid smirk plastered across his face. What did he want?

“hi, sorry for staring, your just really good at these games.” Tommy blinked. The man had an English accent. In the middle of California. To be fair, Tommy had an English accent too, but that was because he was from England. He was in California for his dads’ job, and his accent had just stuck. maybe this guy was from England too?

“oh, uh thanks man..” Tommy tried to be friendly but he was just really freaked out “are you from England?” Tommy asked, still trying to be friendly. this guy didn’t seem like the type of person to try and piss of. He did seem like a bitch though. Maybe Tommy could mention it later.

The man smiled bigger “yeah I am, my family is from there, well not my brother, but me and my dad are.” Ok man just tell me your whole life story that’s fine. Tommy just smiled and nodded, still trying to seem as polite as possible. “you must be from there too.” The man pointed out “your accent is very English” Tommy nodded “yeah, I just moved here from San Francisco though.”

“ah, the big city” the man seemed to be trying to be polite also. He turned to a competitive shooter game. “wanna go?” he gestured towards the game. Tommy smiled and nodded. maybe the bitch would leave him alone once he played a game with him, and it would be fun to beat him. old people weren’t usually good at games. “I’m Wilbur by the way” The man- Wilbur said as Tommy
put in a few coins.

“Tommy.”

The game started up. They picked up the plastic guns and took aim. The point was to shoot the target as close to the middle as many times as possible. Tommy began to shoot. He was doing pretty good, but when he looked over at Wilbur. he had way more points. No. Tommy was not going to lose to some fucker named Wilbur. What kind of name even was that?? Wilbur’s parents must really hate him. no. his parents probably had pretentious ass names too. Like Kyle- or Mason. Yeah.

Tommy began to shoot faster. He wasn’t paying attention and bumped into Wilbur, who must have thought it was intentional and bumped him back, and then that spiraled into a full on pushing and shoving fight. By the time the round was over, Wilbur had won.

“ok that’s not fair you- you cheated!” Tommy spluttered while the stupid fuck just smirked.

“you pushed me first.” He pointed out.

“ok Wilbur. What kind of name is that anyways?” Tommy scowled.

Wilbur just laughed “better than Tommy.” Ok. That’s it.

“no. I want to go again.” Tommy demanded. He would not loose to this bitch. “well this game is getting boring” Wilbur sighed “lets go find another.” Tommy looked around for a game he was good at. Then his eyes landed on the basketball game.

“do you like basketball?” Tommy smiled. Wilbur looked over to where Tommy was pointing “yeah sure.”
They continued to play games for quite a while. Taking turns winning and laughing at each other whenever the other would lose. At some point Tommy looked at his phone and cursed, making Wilbur look up from counting the tickets they had won “what?”

“I have to go my parents are gunna kill me!” Tommy jumped up and began to walk out. “Hold on!” Tommy turned back to Wilbur. “I have to go.” Wilbur just smiled “yeah, I just wanted to say I had fun.”

Tommy stared at him for a second “yeah, me too.”

As he walked out, he realized he meant it.

Hi!!

Chapter Text

It was 5:00 am. Tommy was tiered. Yet here he was on a bus, heading to Rocas Arqueadas High school. Tommy wanted nothing more than to go back home and sleep in, but his parents had told him that wouldn’t be an option.

It had been a week since he had had the weird encounter with the Wilbur guy, and he had been in a stupid amount of trouble with his parents for being out so late in a new town.
Tommy could see the school come into view from his seat. It was a pretty normal looking school. Not a block like his old school but instead it had windows everywhere.

The bus came to a stop and Tommy stood with the rest of the kids.

The went by easy. He got his schedule at the office, and the teachers helped him find his classes. Now just one more class before lunch. It was chemistry. Great.

Tommy walked into the class and was meet by glasses with bubbling liquids set up on the desks. It was a lab day.
Tommy went to the teacher who introduced himself as Mr. Sam and told him to take a seat next to some kid with brown hair. As Tommy sat down the kid turned to him.

“so you’re the new kid?” He questioned looking at Tommy expectantly. Or at least Tommy though he was looking at him, his eyes were completely covered by his hair in a messy mop.

“yeah” Tommy smiled.

“I’m Tubbo” the kid held out his hand and Tommy took it. “I’m Tommy, the biggest man ever” he introduced himself proudly. Tubbo laughed.

“what’s so funny?”

“the way you introduced yourself-“

“so? I am the biggest man!”

“ok Tommy”

They continued to talk and Tubbo told him about the school; people to avoid, bathrooms to avoid, and classes that he should actually do the homework for.
Eventually, Mr. Sam stood up and asked for the classes attention. He showed them how the lab was to be carried out and then left them to start. Tommy quickly figured out that Tubbo had a bit of a wild side as he mixed chemicals and rambled about the latest scam he had pulled.

Tubbo was cool, Tommy decided. And when Tubbo asked Tommy if he wanted to sit with him and his friends at lunch, Tommy happily agreed.

Tubbo showed him to the lunch room and they got in line. “So have you been to the beach yet?” Tubbo asked.

“yeah! It was pretty pog.” Tommy remembered the board walk and the Wilbur guy who had made his first night in the town a little less scary. “pog?” Tubbo asked incredulously.

“yeah. Pog. It means- like- cool, awesome.” Tommy explained. Tubbo nodded “pog”. Tommy laughed at the way he said it. almost how you spoke a foreign language.

They got their trays and Tubbo led him to a table near the corner of the room. a boy was already there. he had a black and white mask on, with a Hawaiian shirt.
The boy gave Tubbo a skeptical look as the tow sat down. Tubbo was the first to speak. “Tommy, this is Ranboo. Ranboo, this is Tommy… he’s new.”

Ranboo stared at Tommy for a few more seconds before his face relaxed and he gave a tentative smile.

“Hi Tommy, its nice to meet you.”

Tommy smiled back, mentally relaxing something about these kids was a bit off. The way Tubbo smiled, and the way Ranboo sat with his hands folded on the table. It was all very odd.

“nice to meet you too, big man, what’s up with the mask though?”

“”oh- it just makes me a bit more comfortable.” Ranboo laughed uneasily. Tommy nodded and looked down at his food. It was typical cafeteria food. Nothing special.

He started to eat his while Tubbo and Ranboo talked about random stuff. Eventually Tommy looked up from his own plate and realized they hadn’t even touched theirs. “hey” Tubbo and Ranboo looked at him “aren’t you guys going to eat your food?” the two boys looked down at their trays and seemed to finally realize there was food there.

“I’m not that hungry.” Tubbo said and Ranboo nodded. weird. “well then.. can I have you apple pie?” Tommy asked.

“sure boss man.” Tubbo handed over his pie and Tommy thanked him before scarfing down the dessert.

“so Tommy..” Tubbo started while Tommy ate his pie “have you heard about the history of the town yet?” Tommy looked up and swallowed.

“not yet, I just got here like- a week ago”

Tubbo nodded and looked over at Ranboo before continuing. “well there are a few legends here..” he went on.

“what type of legends?” Tommy asked, now interested. Tommy had always been fascinated by legends. Whether it be Greek, Norse, or even a few Scottish stories. It was always and interesting topic.

“Sirens.” Ranboo butted in, earning an annoyed glare from Tubbo “they are said to live along the coast and near the caves.”

Tommy had heard and read a lot about Sirens. They were from Greek Mythologies and were known as mermaid like creatures, but unlike the gentle and beautiful mermaids, Sirens were known to be violent and brutal. They used their voices to lure sailors to their dens and then drown them. Feasting on their corpse.

They were a lot like the Scottish Kelpies. But kelpies took on the form of a horse and if you rode them, they would drown you. The Kelpies also preferred their meat rotten. Falling off the bone and almost withered away before they ate, but sirens loved fresh meat. They would often eat their victims right after death.

Of Course, this was all hypothetical, myths and legends told to attract tourists and entertain children. Tommy might think its interesting but he wasn’t a child.
“that’s cool” Tommy commented. The two seemed to be looking for a reaction.

“you think Sirens are cool?” Ranboo sounded a bit confused.

“yeah, I like myths and stuff and Sirens just so happen to be one of those.”

Tubbo nodded slowly “you like myths? Like Greek myths?”

“well I like a lot of them.” Tommy elaborated “I read Norse and Scottish and Latin myths. There all cool, the idea that there is something with magic in this world.”

Tubbo nodded and the table fell into a silence. People were starting to leave the lunch room and Tommy didn’t want to be late for whatever class he had next. So he said goodbye to Tubbo and Ranboo. And walked off to his next class.

Chapter 3: Chapter 3

Summary:

HERE YOU GO SORRY FOR TAKING SO LONG- SCHOOL SUCKS :(

Chapter Text

It was late. Tommy wasn’t tiered. This hadn’t been the first late night spent awake. He wasn’t used to the sound of the ocean, or the wind. And lately he had felt a bit off. Like eyes were on him constantly. His parents had dismissed this as anxiety, but it felt to real. It had him checking behind his back on the street and obsessively checking the locks in his house.

It had been an hour though, and knowing the house was locked wasn’t helping. Tommy turned on the lamp by his bed, casting the room in a yellowish glow. He walked over to the window, opening it and looking out at the pitch-black ocean. The waves were choppy, the wind sounded oddly sweet. Like a song, and sea foam covered the rocks. The rocks. Tommy wanted to go to the rocks. Really bad.

He looked at his clock. It was 11:20. His parents wouldn’t notice, would they? Oh well. Tommy needed to go to the rocks.

He pulled on some sweatpants and a hoodie. Tommy had snuck out before. Him and Freddy used to love to go out at night. Had they every been caught? No. never. And if anyone told you differently, they were. Liar and a fraud and not a big man like himself. he grabbed the key from the kitchen drawer and quietly closed and locked the door behind himself.

Tommy had been right to put on some warmer cloths. With the arrival of fall, the weather was getting colder and the ocean breeze did not help. Even with his hoodie, Tommy shivered. Tonight, was not the night for a walk, but Tommy kept walking regardless. Some part of him sang with the wind that came from the waves and called him to the rocky shore.

Tommy must have zoned out at some point because next thing he knew, his shoes crunched on the rocky sand, Stones smoothed by the oceans ruthless tide scattered around him.

Tommy didn’t hesitate to make his way towards the rocks. These were much, much bigger than the small pebbles he walked on now. They were huge boulders, slightly taller than Tommy and covered in algae.

Tommy didn’t hesitate to start climbing. He used holes in the boulder to haul himself up onto the rocks. They scattered across this side of the beach all the way out to the water, Acting as a rocky pier. Tommy looked out to the grayish green waters. Covered in foam from the waves and twigs from the trees nearby.

There was a man. Wearing what looked like a robe that whipped around in the breeze. As Tommy got closer to him, he noticed a striped bucket hat sitting top a head of shoulder length blond hair.

When he was only a few feet away from the man he spoke. “what’s a kid doing out this late?” ice blue eyes turned toward him as the man spoke.
“I wanted to see the rocks...” Tommy noticed how weird it sounded now. The desperate desire to get to the rocks that had been present in his limbs only a few seconds ago.
the man was now facing him entirely. Eyeing him as if trying to figure out if he was expecting someone else. Which was probably why he was here. He was waiting for a friend or coworker. At 12:00 in the morning?

It was odd, but Tommy was also here at 12:00 am so he couldn’t judge the man too much.

“what’s your name mate?” the man interrupted Tommy’s thoughts.

Tommy stayed silent. Why should he tell this old ass man his name?

The man laughed. Fuck. He said that shit out loud.

“I’m not that old.” The man objected. “Yeah, that’s what all old people say.” Tommy pointed out. This was a very true statement. Tommy only ever spoke the truth anyways.

“Prime, you sound like Wil.” The man sighed. Tommy’s mind instantly flashed to Wilbur at the name. did this man know Wilbur?

“Wilbur?” Tommy asked and the man’s eyes flicked back to Tommy’s.

“Yes… I have a son; his name is Wilbur.” The man replied.

“Yeah, I think I know him, I think I talked to him at the arcade one night.” Tommy said. “Oh, so your Tommy.” The man smiled.

Tommy was a bit taken aback by the man knowing his name. the older quickly explained “Wilbur mentioned a blond kid with attitude at the arcade, he really wanted to see you again, but you didn’t come back to the arcade.” Oh.

“I was busy.” Tommy shrugged “so Wilbur’s your son?” the man nodded.\

“I’m Phil, by the way.” Phil introduced himself.

“I’m Tommy.”

“I know…”

“Shit.”

Phil was an interesting man. He asked Tommy for a second time what he was doing out that late and Tommy said he just felt like it. Then it was Tommy’s turn to ask the same question, and Phil said he was out to eat. Tommy failed to realize how weird that statement was until later.

Eventually Tommy got tiered and his eyes began to droop.

Him and Phil were seated side by side on a rock, talking about random shit. Phil asked him about his school and how being in a new town was. Tommy told him about England and San Francisco. How his friends used to go paddle boarding under the golden bridge and the one time he touched a wild sea lion and then almost died to a wild sea lion.

Now it was probably 2:00 am and Tommy defiantly had school in the morning, but he was too tired to walk back home. And Phil was very nice.

Some part of Tommy had begun to trust Phil, and that same part wanted nothing more than to fall asleep next to the man he had met only an hour or two ago.

Tommy let his head fall onto Phil’s shoulder. The man stiffened but relaxed after a few moments. A hand found its way to his head and began to play with Tommy’s hair. Tommy sighed in content and allowed himself to lean into the touch.

Tommy was too tired to consider the fact that maybe it wasn’t a good idea to use the random stranger he just met as a pillow, but was Phil really a stranger? He and Tommy had been talking for hours now. he had listened patiently listened to Tommy’s rants about cows and moths and all his gripes about school. He was Wilbur’s dad and was apparently also from England. So was he really that much of a stranger at this point?

Tommy’s mind began to slip away from consciousness after that.

The last thing he heard before sleep was Phil whispering above him “oh yeah, we’re defiantly keeping you.”

He never saw the dark, possessive smile on the man’s now scale covered face. The way Phil’s pupils slit and his voice turned melodic.

Tommy never noticed he fell into the trap of a siren.

Chapter Text

Tommy woke up in his own bed. What the fuck. Visions of last night flashed through his head leaving his stomach churning with confusion and slight fear.

Why the fuck had he gone to the rocks? Why the fuck had he decided it was ok to fall asleep on a stranger.. how did said stranger manage to get him back to his bed..?

Why the fuck did he think ‘oh well he’s Wilbur’s dad isn’t he?’ A good reason to trust someone who was obviously a wrongun?

‘What the fuck’ seemed to be his main response to the current situation.

Suddenly the feeling of eyes on Tommy returned tenfold. He felt as if something was watching him carefully- like prey. Tommy didn’t like to think of it like that, but he couldn’t help but feel like a deer when it’s ears perked up at a noise, or maybe nothing but unease.

Tommy didn’t like to feel like prey.

He decided he couldn’t sit there any longer and yanked his sheets off of himself.

He was in his pj’s

What the fuck.

How the fuck did he get in those? He was in his hoodie and sweatpants last he checked.

“TOMMY?” It was his mom. His mom who had no idea that he had snuck out last night.

“YEAH?” Tommy called back a bit shakier than usual.

“C’MON YOUR GUNNA BE LATE.” Shit. School.

Tommy couldn’t do school right now. But he had to didn’t he? What was he gunna say to his mom?

“Oh sorry mom I sorta snuck out last night, fell asleep on some dudes shoulder with the reasoning of he was some dudes dad I met once and then was probably taken home by said dude who left my window open. So yeah I don’t really feel up to school today.”

No. He couldn’t fucking say that. So he just called “ok” back and forced himself to get up and close the window Making sure the blinds were shut before getting dressed.

Tommy ate his breakfast in a tense silence before saying a quick goodbye to his mom and walking to his bus stop.

He had so many questions for Tubbo.

“So like- I just went!”

It was lunch.

Tubbo raised an eyebrow “why are you so scared boss man? You went to the ocean at night, I know plenty of people who have done that.”

Tubbo was being an idiot as usual.

“No- Tubbo you don’t get it” Tommy pressed as Ranboo and Tubbo shared one of their stupid looks “I felt like I HAD to go and then- there was this guy there-“

Tubbo perked up “a drug dealer? Tommy did you do drugs?”

“NO. Ugh never mind you guys are hopeless.” Tubbo just shrugged not seeming too bothered while Ranboo offered a comforting hand on Tommy’s shoulder. The taller boy had grown used to Tommy and with it had become much more open to contact. Tommy grumbled about it at first but he got used to it after a few days.

“Listen, I’m sure it’s fine Tommy it’s not like you died- did the man hurt you?” Ranboo asked. It was weird- Tommy thought he saw Ranboo’s pupils almost… slit- for a second.

No. Must be his imagination. “No- but he was my friend’s dad” was Wilbur really his friend? “And he was just weird man.”

“Like drug dealer weird?”

“Tubbo drop the drug dealer crap.” Ranboo sighed. “Yeah, Ranboo’s right Tubbo, stop. But no, he couldn’t be dealing drugs he was just- he was old...?” Tommy remembered the way the man had seemed older than he let on. Like he wasn’t just some middle-aged guy.

Tubbo slammed his hands down on the table “a pedophile!”

“Tubbo for the love of-“ Ranboo sighed again now rubbing his temple as if he had a headache.

The much bell rang, and they all stood up. Tubbo and Ranboo plates were once again full.

“I don’t think I’ve seen either of you eat your lunch once” Tommy commented. Ranboo winced at that and Tubbo glanced uninterestedly at his plate of mashed potatoes and chicken.

“School food sucks bossman” Tubbo said, dumping the food “it’s not fresh.”

“Well, this is school not the Ritz” Tommy rolled his eyes at his friend’s pickiness.

“I’ll just wait till I get home to eat” Tubbo scratched his arm absentmindedly.

“Suit yourself” Tommy said as they exited the lunchroom.

The hall ways were full of chatter. More than usual. “What is everyone so chatty about?” Ranboo wondered.

Tubbo shrugged and Tommy checked his phone. Nothing important was happening. maybe just some gossip.

A person bumped into him which had Tubbo glaring at them. They didn’t hesitate to apologize.

“No problem big man, seriously- but- what is everyone talking about...?” Tommy asked. The person’s eyes widened.

“You don’t know?”

“No...?” Tommy was confused. What the fuck did he miss?

“A person turned up... dead, at the docks yesterday morning.”

What the fuck.

“What?” Tommy whispered.

Tubbo straitened up and Ranboo seemed to be looking anywhere but at Tommy.

“Yeah- she looked like she had been eaten and some people are saying there is a cannibal in town.” The person said, on edge.

“oh.” Tommy mumbled, not knowing how else to respond. His mind was immediately going back to the odd man from last night.

“what if it was just an accident?” Ranboo asked hopefully.

“no way.” The kid shook his head “the cuts were way too intentional.”

Tubbo looked lost in thought for a second before his eyes turned sharp again. “maybe a suicide? animals got to them after?”

That would make sense. More sense than a cannibal at least.

“Well, whatever happened, it was brutal, and everyone is on high alert now.” With that, the person turned and left for class.

Tommy watched them walk off, his mind going a million miles an hour.

What if Phil- no. no. he would be dead. Would he?

A hand was placed on Tommy shoulder, bringing him back to reality. “hey bossman, you ok?” Tubbo sounded worried.

“yeah- just- that guy last night.” Tommy sighed.

Tubbo’s eyes were sharp again. “he isn’t going to hurt you. I promise.”

Ranboo put a hand on Tommy’s other shoulder “yeah man, we got you.”

Tommy smiled. He believed them.

Notes:

HAHA YOU GUYS PROBABLY FORGOT ABOUT ME

Tubbo and Ranboo getting possessive over here, and we luv to see it.

yeah so after techno's death i got home from that vacation and realized i didn't have motivation. even though I stopped updating though, people still sent love and kudos, and really sweet comments, so thank you all so, so much for that! I had this book planned out from the start so i just needed to put it into chapters, but school started, and I began high school.

my time was stretched thin by work, school, and other things outside of that. I stopped updating and low key tried to forget about this, but i couldn't.

this place really is a place i can just write and be happy, and i am so, so grateful for everyone who supported me even when I couldn't post.

i cant promise consistent posts, especially with school, but i do want to pick this back up and finish.

ALSO YALL ARE GETTING SOFT. I CAME BACK FROM A FIVE MONTH HIATUS, AND THE NEW SBI FICS ARE NOT HITTING RIGHT. I AM HERE TO FIX THAT.

(with that being said, all of your fics are beautiful, I just like it so dark that i am manipulated myself)

Chapter Text

School was out, and the sun was too.

Tommy leaned his head against his windowsill, staring at the ocean. It was a deep green that glinted with each ripple. A cool breeze flew through his room, bringing with it salty air that Tommy had grown used to by now.

It had been a week since the body was found on the beach, and the talk about it had gradually come to a stop. Police had decided it was a suicide, like Tubbo had said.
His phone buzzed on the nightstand. It was Tubbo.

Hey bossman
Sun is out, u wanna hang out

Tommy smiled. He, Tubbo, and Ranboo had grown closer, and the two had wanted to hang out with him almost everyday since the body was found.

Yeah sure
Meet at docks?
Ok
C u there

Tommy hopped up and closed the window. Grabbing his jacket as he ran downstairs. His mom was setting up Halloween decorations.

“Hey mom, I’m going to the docks to meet Tubbo and Ran!” he called pulling on his sneakers.

“Ok be home by seven for dinner and ask your friends if they want to come over too.” His moms voice came from the kitchen.

“Ok, bye” Tommy slammed the door shut behind him. He grabbed his bike from the garage and began to ride down the twisting hills, to the beach.
He was glad he had brought a jacket. It was cold, with crisp autumn air mixing with the moist salt of the sea.

As he continued to peddle, the ocean came into view. Tommy rode his bike down the narrow sidewalk that eventually turned to wood as he glided down the docks.
The ocean waves could be heard below him, and the old wood creaked under his wheels.

People walked past him, shopping, eating, talking. It was a nice day to be outside.

Fisherman yelled out their prices, and a man played guitar to the side. Tommy didn’t really watch any of them for long though, he was looking for his friends.
He found a bike rack and locked his bike into a slot. After he did that, he texted Tubbo.

Hey where r u guys?

The text bubble popped up, indicating Tubbo was typing. While Tommy waited, he looked around.

The man was still there. He had a yellow sweater and a beanie. He looked like- no he WAS the fucker from the arcade.

Tommy walked over, pulling out a five and tossing it at Wilbur’s feet.

The man looked up and smiled when he saw the blond.

“Tommy! It’s been a while, how are you?”

Tommy scowled “your dad is a fucking weirdo, and he’s old.”

Wilbur’s eyebrows shot up in surprised, before he broke down laughing. “I forgot you met him. Yeah, he said you were nice too.”

“I didn’t say he was nice, I said he was weird” Tommy rolled his eyes “I saw him on the beach, and after talking to him for five minutes, I lost all conscious. I don’t remember a thing that happened after, but I ended up back home. So, I know he drugged me.”

Wilbur was silent for a minute. Then he looked confused “dad said he watched you walk home.”

“SO, HE IS STALKING ME?” Tommy pointed an accusing finger at Wilbur.

“no- no. Tommy, he walked you home, but you weren’t fully awake.” Wilbur said.

“but I don’t remember walking home.” Tommy reminded him.

“ok? It was midnight, you were tired. You might have just forgotten.” Wilbur sighed.

That- that sounded logical. But can you even just- lose memories from just being tired?
Tommy stayed silent for a moment.

“ok- I guess that checks out.” Tommy resigned.

Wilbur nodded. “sorry if my dad freaked you out, he can be a bit intense sometimes, but I promise he wouldn’t drug you.”

“it’s fine I guess; I Just don’t like the fact I can’t remember what happened.” Tommy said.

His phone buzzed in his pocket, and Tommy remembered Tubbo.

“oh fuck-“ Tommy pulled out his phone and read the messages.

We are at puffy’s diner.
It’s the fifth shop from the fish market.

Tommy nodded to himself. He knew where that was.

He looked back up at Wilbur “hey- uh. Sorry for the misunderstanding, but I have to go, I’m here with a few friends.”

Wilbur smiled “your fine, sorry for freaking you out. But, uh- could I get your number? I had a lot of fun at the arcade.”

Tommy didn’t like the idea if this guy having his number. Even if he proved his dad hadn’t fucked with Tommy, he was still a creepy dude.
Tommy held out his hand, and Wilbur gave him his phone.

Tommy didn’t know why he decided to give the creep his number. His hand just acted on its own.

Tommy entered his number, and Wilbur smiled “text you soon Toms.”

“ok bitch. But if you try to talk to me at midnight, I swear I will murder you.”

Wilbur’s smile grew. “ok, don’t keep your friends waiting.”

And with that, the man ruffled Tommy’s hair, and went back to strumming his guitar.

Tommy smacked his hand yelling profanity’s as he walked away. He was smiling the second he turned his back though.

Wilbur watched the blond walk away, determined to make a brother out of him.

Chapter Text

Tommy opened the door to Puffy’s diner and looked around. It was a pirate themed restaurant, with round tables and flowerpots hanging from fishnets.

Tubbo and Ranboo were sitting at a table near the window, seeming deep in a conversation.

As Tommy got closer, the two stopped and turned to him, smiling.

“Sup big man.” Tubbo grinned as Tommy sat down next to him.

Ranboo gave a small wave in greeting, his eyes crinkling from under his mask.

“Hey, what are you guys talking about?” Tommy took his seat next to Tubbo.

“Oh nothing, just assignments.” Tubbo sighed rubbing his temples.

Tommy nodded. The teachers did seem to be loading them with homework and projects now the school year had officially kicked off. Tommy still had a shit ton to do, and he wasn’t even in the mood.

“Tell me about it. I’m pretty sure Mrs. Loafer is targeting me. She told me that my essays ‘need work’.” He groaned. “My essays are fine. it’s her fucking syllabus that sucks.”

Ranboo gave Tommy a look at that, “uh- no. I’ve seen your essays, and your grammar is awful.”

Tommy was about to retort when the server came up with a few menus. The three ordered some food, with Tubbo and Ranboo both just getting a drink and Tommy getting some fries.

The server smiled and told them that their food would be out in ten minutes before walking away.

“Ok well not everyone can be perfect at everything, Ranboob.” Tommy continued where they had left off, narrowing his eyes.

“I am.” Tommy could hear the smirk under the fucker’s mask.

“Not at gym class.” Tommy scoffed. That wasn’t necessarily true though. Ranboo was amazing at volleyball and running.

“Ok- well why don’t you help Tommy with his essays then?” Tubbo jumped in “You could meet at the library; I could come too.”

“Wait we have a library?” Tommy perked up. Libraries were always cool. Especially in old towns.

“Uh- Tubbo we have that thing to do later, remember?” Ranboo said, staring at Tubbo and completely ignoring Tommy.

“Not today, I was thinking tomorrow or something.” Tubbo rolled his eyes.

“What are you guys doing today?” Tommy asked. Again, he was ignored.

“No because I have to go check on-”

“HEY.” Tommy poked Tubbo, and causing both boys to jump, “what are you guys talking about? If it’s really a problem, I’ll just go by myself.”

Tubbo shrugged, “yeah ok boss man, sorry about that.”

Ranboo nodded and looked up as the waiter came over with their food. Well, more like Tommy’s food. The blond had still yet to see Tubbo or Ranboo eat.

The three excepted their food and drinks, and the waiter left once again.

“So, what do you have to do today?” Tommy restated he previous question, simultaneously digging into his fries.

“Oh, we just have to uh- clean our rooms.” Ranboo said a bit too quickly.

“Both of you...?” Tommy raised his eyebrows in skepticism. these two and their sketchy behavior. you would think they were hiding secret identities or something.

“Yep.” Tubbo said, looking down at his phone, “in fact- I think we should be leaving.” He showed the time to Ranboo who nodded and got up.

“oh, ok.” Tommy gathered his stuff as well and looked at his own phone. His mom had texted to tell him she was making pasta for dinner. Nice.

“we’ll see you at school!” Tubbo smiled as they exited the diner.

Tommy was back in his room, staring at the pile of homework on his desk.

Technically he could just wait for Tubbo and Ranboo to finish ‘cleaning their rooms’. Which was a lie he wasn’t buying.
But he had to get started on it at least, so he put all his books back into his bag, and looked up where the library was on google maps.

It was only a fifteen-minute bike ride into town. So, Tommy decided to go check it out and get some work done.

Though it was sunny, the wind still blew through town. It whipped Tommy’s hair back and rustled the yellow and brown leaves.

October was only a few days away, and with it the peak of fall.

The streets turned to sidewalks, and a town emerged around him. Small shops and a square with a town hall and library sat in front of Tommy. The sun was just below the noon point and reflected off the bronze bell of the town hall.

Tommy smiled as he left his bike next to the rack and bounded up the steps to the library.

The building wasn’t huge, but it was a decent size. Old with wooden floors that creaked, and framed photos of the town’s early days.

Most importantly though, there were hundreds of books. A thousand maybe.

As Tommy traveled farther into the building, he found a group of desks and chairs to read and work at. Perfect.

Tommy sat himself down at a desk and pulled out his notebook and assignment for math class.

He had no trouble getting though his homework for math and science, as the library was quiet with only a few people coming and going every few minutes.

By the time Tommy got to his English homework, it was only him, the librarian in the front and out of sight, and some guy who was a few aisles down from him.

He hadn’t seen the guy, but he had heard the door open and then footsteps walking around.

Tommy sighed as he stretched his back, hearing a few pops across his spine.

Once he finished these two essays, he would be mostly done with his work.

Tommy pulled out a piece of loose-leaf paper and began to go over his notes. once he felt he had a decent grasp of what to write, he began.

The opening was easy enough, but it was the main paragraph’s supporting sentence he was having trouble with.

It was just a repeat of previously, and obviously stated material. Both in the summary and whatever shitty article he was writing about.

Tommy scowled at his paper, trying to figure out what he was doing wrong.

Maybe he could just take a break for the day. he had already finished a good chunk of work.

Tommy got up from his seat and stretched once again before deciding it might be worth it to look around at some books before leaving.

He started with just scanning until he found a book with a cool cover, then reading the first few pages.

Tommy did this for a few minutes before finding a really cool book on Greek mythology. It had just about every story in it. from medusa to Persephone.

Tommy sat down on the floor and began to flip through the book.

He was so invested in the story of Pan that he didn’t notice when a person entered his aisle.

Tommy was dragged out of his reading with a monotone voice.

“That’s a good book.”

Tommy jumped from the sudden noise, looking up to see a man.

He was tall, with pink hair and a maroon sweater.

“Oh- yeah, it is.” Tommy answered. He expected the conversation to end there, but the man continued.

“Have you read the story about sirens yet?” The man asked off handedly.

Tommy’s mind flashed back to a previous conversation he had with Ran and Tubbo.

“Uh, no- but I have heard about the legends of the town.” Tommy said.

The man nodded; his eyes wandering over to shelf above Tommy. He walked over and grabbed a book, reading over it before nodding again.

“I’m Techno by the way.” The Techno introduced himself.

“Tommy.” The blond replied.

The Pinkett’s eyebrow twitched.

“Oh, you must be the kid my brother was talking about.” Techno’s gaze became sharper.

Who does he know that would have a brother? Tubbo and Ranboo were only children. So that would only leave that fucker Wilbur. And he had said that he had an American brother.
“You mean that bitch Wil – bur?” Tommy frowned, stretching out the name.

Techno smirked at this, obviously amused at the teen’s antics.

“yes, I mean him.”

“Yeah, well what did he say about me?” Tommy asked. Not that he cared. Nope, he just wanted to make sure that Wil-bitch wasn’t talking shit about him.

“He said you had spunk, and he was right.” Techno said.

“What the hell is ‘spunk’?” Tommy scowled. This guy sounded like his parents, though he looked MUCH younger.

“Don’t you have a vocabulary? It means that you have personality.” The man raised an eyebrow.

“of course, I have plenty vocabulary.” Tommy smirked, “bitch, shit, fuck, ass, dick, balls-.”

“Ok, I get it.” Techno cut in, rubbing his temples.

Tommy smiled; this was just as fun as annoying Wilbur!

“Alright well I have an essay to battle, so- bye.” Tommy said, re-shelving his book.

“Battle?” Techno questioned as Tommy dusted off his pants.

“Yep, my teacher thought it would be fun to assign two impossible essays, so now I have to battle them.” Tommy explained.

“Do you need help?” the man offered, following Tommy out of the aisle.

“No, it’s fine, I got this.” Tommy jabbed a thumb into his chest “I’m the biggest man. I got it under control.”

“You sure? I can look over it. I’m an English major.” Techno pushed.

“Really its fine big man, thanks though.” Tommy found his original spot and sat down.

His paper wasn’t there.

“HEY!” Tommy shouted as he looked up to see Techno behind him with his fucking essay.

“Be quiet” Techno murmured, eyes scanning the paper “we’re in a library.”

“I don’t care if we’re in the white house. Give me back my essay!” Tommy scowled, though his voice was lower this time. why the fuck did this guy care so much? Did all Crafts have problems with taking no for an answer? Or was it just the way Phil raised his dumb ass kids?

Techno looked up, obviously finished reading.

“You need to expand you phrases and vocabulary.” He stated in his stupid monotone, “you also need to learn to pace your writing and stay on topic. Your ideas are everywhere. You need to group them together, so things flow smoother.”

Ok. so maybe he was right, but Tommy didn’t know how to do that! He wasn’t trying to become the next Shakespeare, he just needed to pass English.

Techno took the seat next to him, grabbing a red pen.

“Here,” he circled a few sentences “these can all be grouped together because they are all referencing this sentence in the beginning.” He circled a sentence from the first paragraph.

Tommy stared at the paragraph for a moment, piecing together what was just explained.

Ok so maybe Techno was right. And maybe Tommy could use the help.

So the blond sighed in defeat, and pulled out a new piece of paper, writing down what Techno had said.

The man smiled, obviously happy Tommy was taking his advice.

This continued for the next hour. Techno taking things and moving them around, and Tommy writing down things to remember for later in his notebook.

By the time they were done, the sky outside the window was orange, and Tommy was exhausted. His head filled to the brim with topic sentences, and fucking grammar.

God he hated grammar.

“I think that’s enough.” Techno said looking out the window.

“Yeah, I gotta get home.” Tommy sighed, standing up, his legs sore from sitting for so long.

The sun would be setting soon, so it would be a good idea to get home while its still bright out.

“You need help getting home?” Techno asked, “It’s getting dark.”

“No that’s fine, I have a bike” Tommy said, shoving his books into his bag.

Techno looked apprehensive for a moment before nodding.

“Ok just be careful.”

“I will big man. No one messes with me.” Tommy smiled, walking over to the exit.

Techno chuckled, “ok Toms, if you ever need help again, just ask.”

“Ok, bye!” Tommy called as the door to the library closed behind him. Techno staying to check out his books.

Tommy walked down the steps to his bike, feeling better now his homework was done, and he had a tutor of sorts.

He threw his leg over his bike and began to ride home.

Chapter Text

It was after school a few days later when Tommy decided to go down to the beach.

He had gone back to the library twice since his first meeting with Techno. Only one of those visits was Techno there. This time he helped Tommy with a history assignment. He also agreed to help Tommy with his homework every Wednesday.

They had exchanged numbers to keep in touch, and now Tommy could annoy both brothers whenever he wanted!

It was Friday now, and Tubbo and Ran were on a fishing trip apparently. He couldn’t come either. Fake ass friends they were.

Wilbur was busy too!

That was the most surprising part for Tommy, because there was no way Wilbur had friends. This was confirmed in a quick text convo with Techno.

So Tommy decided he was going to go on an adventure of his own. without any of those bitches, and they would be so jealous of how much cool stuff he finds. Yes, this plan was great.

Tommy grabbed his shoes, and ran to the garage, grabbing his bike. It was currently 3 pm. He should be back in an hour or two.

The blonde took the path down to the docks, locking his bike in a rack before walking down to the sand.

The beach was in the shape of a crescent moon, with an arched rock in the center.

Tubbo said that in the evening, on cloudless days, when the sun is just about to disappear beyond the horizon, the rock and the sun lined up perfectly to cast a ray on the beach.

“We should go see it together sometime” Tubbo had suggested “it’s really cool.”

Tommy looked at that rock now. the sky was greyer today. As it was every day. the mist covering the ocean like a blanket, only broken by waves.

The sand became more solid under his feet as Tommy neared the water, only stopping when the waves barely touched his soles.

The farther Tommy walked from the pier, the quieter the world around him became.

Soon, all he could see were rocks and mist, and all he could hear were waves.

The beach eventually began to get rockier, until the caves came into view.

The first few were small, with only a couple of feet dug out of the rock face, but slowly they got bigger.

Soon, Tommy could no longer see to the end of the tunnels. The darkness mixed with mist blocking his vision.

Tommy pulled out his phone, turning on the flash. There could be some cool shit in there. Maybe treasure.

Tommy knew there couldn’t be anything too cool in a random cave, but maybe there would be a shell or something.

His phone did little against the mist, but everything above the cloud was made clear as Tommy shone the light across the walls.

The cave was wet with sea spray, and Tommy’s shoes squelched with each step.

Stalactites hung from the ceiling, dripping water onto the blonde’s head.

The cave all in all, was creepy. And cool.

Tommy gasped, watching a spider scurry across the wall.

“Hello little fellow, I’m going to name you shro-.” Tommy’s sentence was cut off when his foot bumped into something.

Something too soft to be a rock.

Tommy slowly lowered his flashlight, now noticing an awful smell, slowly growing stronger as Tommy’s eyes meet those of a girl’s.

Below him, was a body. A girl’s body. Her wet hair plastered across her face and her skin pale. The eyes he was staring into were vacant of life and looked like glass.

Her front was exposed, and her stomach open. Terrible rips through her flesh that revealed an emptied cavity. The organs, lungs, and heart were gone. Maggots and flies swarmed what was left, causing the dying nerves to twitch ever so often.

There were cuts all the way down her body, some deep enough to expose bone.

The victim’s mouth hung open in what looked like shock, and fear. Her tongue missing.

Tommy could only stare in horror, trying to process what he was looking at.

What could have done this? an animal? Those claw marks were huge.

Tommy felt bile rise in his throat, every part of him recoiling at the grotesque scene before him.

Before spewing his lunch, Tommy turned and ran out of the cave, feet slapping against the rock.

Only when he was out in the fresh air, and the sand was under his feet did Tommy allow himself to throw up.

After his stomach settled, he pulled out his phone again, dialing the police.

It took the authority’s ten minutes to get to him.

Within seconds of the cars pulling up, he was swarmed by police and medics.

A few stayed with him, asking questions while others went into the cave.

“And what time did you enter the cave?” A policewoman asked him gently, writing down notes on her pad.

“I left the house at three, so maybe four.” Tommy repeated. This was his third round of questions. The same ones over and over, as if he would give a different answer this time.

“Tommy?” A familiar voice called.

The blond looked up, blue eyes meeting brown. It was Wilbur.

“Wil? What are you doing here?” Tommy stood up, Wilbur already walking over to him.

“I came to find you. when I heard a kid had found a body in the caves the same day you said you were going to the beach, I knew it was probably you.” He said hugging Tommy.

Tommy would have protested on any other day, but he was scared, and tired, and the policewoman seemed to leave him alone when he was with Wilbur, so maybe he could let it slide.

“You must be so scared, I’m so sorry” Wilbur cooed, walking Tommy over to the rock he had been sitting on previously, not letting go.

Tommy went easily, resting his head on Wilbur’s chest when they sat down.

“it’s not your fault big man.” Tommy murmured, closing his eyes. The stupid police lights were getting annoying.

Wilbur paused before speaking, “still, no kid should have to see that” He ran a hand through Tommy’s hair, relaxing the boy further, “why were you in the caves?”

“I wanted to find some shells.” Tommy mumbled, feeling more exhausted than ever. The stress of the day taking its toll on him, along with how safe he felt in Wilbur’s arms, was causing his mind to slip away.

“Oh sweetheart, next time just ask me and I’ll come with you to find shells, and then I can protect you.” Wilbur promised.

“I did” The blonde argued, “you said you were busy.”

“If I had known you were this reckless, I would never have left you alone” the older sighed “just don’t go off doing shit like this again, please.”

“Ok Wil.” Tommy sighed, too tired to disagree. He could feel Wilbur smile into his hair, his arms tightening around him.

“Thank you.” Wilbur pulled Tommy closer until he was practically on his lap. Tommy didn’t mind, just happy to have someone to distract him.

It was like that that they stayed, until the sirens died down, and the girl was brought out on a stretcher. Her cause of death identified as a bear attack.

Wilbur stood with the blond in his arms, telling a police officer that he was taking him home, the cop’s eyes glazing over as she nodded.

He did begrudgingly bring the boy to his parents that night. Promising in his heart to return for his brother.

Notes:

Wilbur: I don't want to return him >:(

Phil: the kid is already traumatized enough- lets give him a break for a sec-

Wilbur: but pHiLlLllllL :(

he did eventually return the poor lad.

Chapter Text

Tommy tried hard to forget about the day he found the body. He did everything. He hung out with Tubbo and Ranboo, he continued his tutoring with Techno, he hung out with Wilbur at the arcade.

No matter how many times he went out. No matter how much he focused on school, or how hard he tried to keep the images of that day away from his mind, he always ended up waking up in a cold sweat, heart pounding and lungs hurting, the girl’s empty eyes staring back at him.

He later learned that her name was Sally. That she would have graduated high school that year if she had not died.

Tommy’s dreams developed with that information. Sally dressed in a bloodied cap and gown, her eyes glassy and her hair sopping wet. Her gown hanging open to reveal her empty chest, maggots spilling out of the cavity.

He couldn’t attend the funeral. He couldn’t bring himself to see her face again.

He refused to talk. His parents asked him many times to talk about how he felt, told him that he could trust them.

It wasn’t distrust he felt. It was weakness.

Kids eyes followed him a school. Some dared to ask what she looked like. Tubbo and Ranboo always stepped in, scaring off most of the students with cold glares, and menacing words.

Though he was grateful for their efforts to help him, Tommy didn’t talk to the two about what he saw either and they never asked.

Tubbo and continued to talk his ear off in science class, and Ranboo had continued to point out every fucking grammar mistake Tommy made it English, which were getting to be less and less now he had Techno helping him.

Tommy’s parents eventually let it go, though he heard their whispers in the kitchen at night and felt their worried eyes following him as he left the house every day.

He ignored them, hoping deep in his heart that the feeling of emptiness he felt when he was alone, would eventually go away.

Today’s activity was studying. Tommy had made it a habit to meet Techno at the library twice a week. The pinkett was patient and kind, and he never hounded Tommy for details on what had happened.

He just read over Tommy’s essays and gave feedback, occasionally making a joke or two. Tommy found it easy. It was a welcome calm in the storm that was constantly clouding his mind.

The sky was grey today, with the sun setting sooner and fall coming to it climax. Tommy left his bike at the front of the building, walking up the steps and opening the wooden doors.

Techno was seated at their usual spot, a book in hand.

Another person was sitting next to him, on their phone. Wilbur.

As Tommy approached, the brunette looked up, smiling.

“Hey Toms” He greeted, ruffling Tommy’s hair as the younger sat between the two brothers.

“Who invited you, bitch?” Tommy batted the hand away half-heartedly, no real venom in his voice.

  Wilbur smiled wider “Techno did.”

“That’s actually a lie” Techno interrupted, “you just followed me here.”

The brunette scowled as Tommy snickered.

“No friends huh?” he laughed, earning a smack on the head.

“I do have friends; I would just rather hang out with you.” Wilbur sighed, draping an arm around Tommy’s shoulder. Tommy didn’t try to move it this time. He had come to secretly enjoy Wilbur’s clinginess.

“Ok, what do you have to work on this week?” Techno leaned over, grabbing Tommy’s book bag and looking through his mess of papers.

“Just some English and math.” Tommy replied, leaning into Wilbur.

Techno helped Tommy work through his English, and Wilbur just made comments every few minutes.

Eventually Tommy finished his last math problem, leaning back with a sigh, “well big men, I think imma head home now.”

He glanced out the window. It was getting darker now. the sun letting off the last of its rays.

“You sure?” Wilbur’s arm tightened around him, “I can walk you home.”

“Nah, I’m fine” Tommy smiled, getting up and grabbing his bag.

A hand grabbed his wrist, the grip startlingly strong.

“Tommy, you don’t need to hide stuff from us” Techno’s eyes were soft, very much unlike his grip, “we will listen.”

Tommy’s heart twisted. It was so kind of them to care about him, and he wanted so badly to break down right there. Tell them about how scared he was, and how he couldn’t sleep, but instead he just smiled, “I know big man. But don’t worry about me, I’m fine.”

The two brothers stared at him for a moment, both seeming to try and read him, though in the end, Wilbur just nodded, giving a weak smile.

“Ok Toms.” He relented, looking back at Techno, who let go of his arm.

Tommy nodded, hitching his bag higher onto his shoulder, “Well, bye.”

He left the library, with Wil and Tech’s muttered goodbyes ringing in his ears.

The night around him was cold and bitter as Tommy rode his bike down the street.

The lamps cast eerie shadows on the pavement, and the wind rustled the bare trees.

  It was quiet.

Then a figure stepped out in front of him, just a few feet ahead.

Tommy gasped, and swerved to avoid the person, only to see that another had stepped into the street.

They kicked his wheel, sending Tommy tumbling to the ground, his knees slamming into the pavement.

More people stepped out of the shadows, crowding around him. There were around 4, all boys.

“This him?” one of them asked the others.

“Yeah, that’s him.” Another said, malice in his voice.

  Who were these fuckers??

Hands grabbed him, pulling him roughly to his feet.

“hey” a voice, now in his face spoke up “do you know who Sally is?”

  Tommy’s heart froze.

“I- I don’t know-“ He stared, his breath quickening.

“YES, YOU DO.” another person yelled “YOU KILLED HER, YOU KILLED HER AND DIDN’T EVEN HAVE THE BALLS TO ADDMIT IT!”

Tommy flinched. Kill her? He didn’t kill her. He didn’t kill Sally. He didn’t kill Sally. He didn’t kill-.

Blank eyes, staring up at him, mouth open in shock. Her hair plastered across her-

A punch to the gut brought him back to his senses. Tommy gasped for air, like a fish out of water.

“YOU KILLED THAT OTHER GIRL TOO. YOU KILLED THEM ALL.”

Tommy continued to gasp, clutching his ribs.

“I swear- I swear I didn’t-“ A punch to the face cut him off. He could feel something warm trickle down his cheek.

“You can’t even admit it you bastard.” The voice seethed. Another punch to the stomach.

“You disgust me. She was young and full of life and you-“ a third punch, this time to his side, “you killed her, you KILLED HER.”

  A punch to the throat.

Tommy’s visions swam. His knees gave out.

The hands holding him up let go, and he crumpled to the ground.

“You don’t deserve to live.” A voice from above whispered “you deserve to die a slow painful death, just like you gave her.”

Tears ran down Tommy’s cheeks as he tried one last time to plead for his life, “please, I didn’ kill her. I didn’- please-“ he sobbed.

a foot slammed into his side, causing his vision to go white.

More followed soon after, one after the other striking his body.

Tommy didn’t know how long it went on for before it stopped. A few voices yelling something Tommy couldn’t make out.

A smacking sound that didn’t follow with his own pain.

Something hit the ground next to Tommy.

Then he was being scooped up into warm arms, a gentle hand brushing back his probably bloody hair.

“Tommy, oh my baby, my sunshine” a voice above him cooed.

“Wil?” Tommy tried to open his eyes, but his face was quickly pressed into Wilbur’s shoulder, obscuring his view.

“Yes, yes it’s me, it’s me Sunshine.” Wilbur sounded frantic, “Techno, get Phil on the phone, its bad.”

“I wan’ go home” Tommy tried to squirm out of Wilbur’s hold, but the older simply tightened his grip. Tommy sucked in a breath at the pressure put on his probably bruised ribs.

“Yes Tom’s, we’re taking you home.” Wilbur voice sounded different, hostile, “I am never letting you go, I tried to give you time, but you obviously can’t stay out of trouble.”

He stood up, adjusting his grip so Tommy was cradled in his arms.

“Wil- Wilbur- what about the- the others?” Tommy asked, panic seeping into his voice. Why was Wilbur covering his eyes?

“They aren’t going to bother you anymore; Techno is dealing with them.” Tommy didn’t like the sound of that.

“Wil, you’re scaring me” Tommy heard a sharp intake of breath at his words, Wilbur’s arms becoming constricting from how tightly he is squeezing the blond. His ribs might snap at this point.

“There is nothing to be scared of Tommy, nothing” Wilbur promises, loosening his grip a bit, “I would never hurt you.”

Tommy doesn’t know how much he believes the words.

“Hey Wil, Phil is on his way, Imma- clean up the mess.” Techno’s voice comes from behind them.

“What mess? Wilbur, what mess?!” Tommy can feel his panic worsening when he smells iron in the air. Blood.

Her hair is wet, and her eyes glassy, they have nothing behind them-

A hand is rubbing his back, “breath Tommy, its ok, I’m here.” Wilbur’s soothes the panicked teen.

A few minutes of silence pass. Wilbur rubs his back, and Tommy Matches his breath to the pattern.

Then, the screeching of tires fills his ears.

A car door opens, and he hears Phil’s voice.

It gets closer until the man is next to them, asking Wilbur questions.

Tommy feels a hand on his cheek, and he leans into the warmth.

Tommy can’t completely understand what is being said above him. His senses are dull, and his limbs numb.

They are moving, he is being lowered into what he can only assume is the car. He can smell the leather of the seats, and hear the hum of the AC.

It’s warm compared to the chilly night outside, and Tommy shivers from the change in temperature.

Wilbur slides in next to Tommy, pulling him into his lap.

The door shuts again, and the car begins to move. Tommy keeps his eyes closed, his mind wandering.

His parents don’t know where he is right now. they are probably worried. He is going to get a huge lecture when he gets home and will probably never be allowed outside again.

A hand begins to card through his hair, and Tommy gives a hum of appreciation.

“I’m not going to let anyone ever hurt you again.” Wilbur whispers, kissing Tommy’s hair gently.

Tommy sighs, letting himself drift off to sleep.

  What a mistake.
