Chapter 1: Meet the Avatar

Earth

Water

Many years ago, Avatar Aang and his newfound friends banded together to stop the hundred year war of all the nations bringing them together in harmony. Aang and Fire Lord Zuko worked together to bring the nations into one unit and called it…. Republic City. This was a nation where benders and nonbenders alike could live together.

Avatar Aang had done many deeds in his lifetime, but unfortunately, his time had come to an end, and like the cycle of the seasons, a new avatar had been born.

This new avatar was named Korra. She was an excellent bender and nearly had all elements mastered, with the exception of air. But soon, she will come across a certain person that will change everything….

A little girl in airbending clothing was running for her life. She saw two other people and told them to get down.

“Get down! Get down!!” she said.

Another little girl saw her.

“Ikki what’s….”

“Jinora, Kuzon,. Get down!!!” Ikki shouted.

They saw a group of small sky bison behind her. Kuzon knew he had to protect Jinora and Ikki otherwise his head would be on a platter. He created a beam of light with his left hand, and then held the two kids close as the bison passed by. Soon the last sky bison flew by, and the three were unharmed.

“Well, I guess that’s what happened when you try to milk a bison,” Ikki said.

Jinora grabbed Ikki and pinned her to a wall. She was letting out spit.

“Jinora no, don’t you dare!” she said.

Kuzon grabbed the two kids and held them back.

“Would you two knock it off!” Kuzon said.

“Ahh its ok Kuzon, I’m too excited to be in a mood,” Ikki said.

“Oh right, we’re going to visit Gran Gran,” Jinora said, “You’re still the annoying sister I grew up with.”

Ikki tried pulling her head. Kuzon bonked their heads together.

“I said knock it off!” he said to the kids, “Now the sooner we do these chores for Uncle Tenzin, the sooner we can leave. So how about we get along for the next few hours. Ok Jinora?”

“Sure… whatever you say,” Jinora said.

“Ok Ikk….”

Kuzon noticed Ikki escaped his grasp.

“So what are we waiting for!” Ikki said.

Kuzon shook his head and tagged along.

Ever since Kuzon was a child, he had been taken in and raised by his surrogate uncle Tenzin, and his wife Pema. Tenzin noticed that Kuzon had an incredible gift, and was eager to train him. He may have a mind of his own, but he had deep respect for his surrogate uncle. Kuzon was special because his bending was not like anyone else’s.

Later on they were riding with Tenzin, and his family to the north pole. Ikki was asking multiple times if they were at the destination yet.

“Yes Ikki, as I’ve been telling you for the past thousand times,” Tenzin said, “We are finally… here.”

“Yay!” Ikki said as she jumped out.

Tenzin and Pema’s youngest son, Meelo was chewing on Tenzin’s head, much to his torture. The three of them walked over to Tenzin’s mother, Katara, a master waterbender.

“Mother its good to see you,” he said, “I can’t tell you how happy I am to see you….. Please help me.”

Katara chuckled and picked the young boy up from Tenzin’s head.

“Unhand me strange woman!!” Meelo said.

“Meelo don’t say such strange things, that’s your grandmother,” Tenzin saiad.

Kaatara turned to the others.

“Its so good to see all of you,” she said before turning to Kuzon, “Especially you Kuzon. You’ve certainly grown.”

“Thanks Gran-gran,” Kuzon said as he bowed, “But I got a bit of time to go before I’m as tall as arrow head here.”

Katara laughed.

“Still making jokes as usual,” Katara said.

As the others were walking around the north pole, Kuzon was searching around.

“So where is this guest of honor I’ve been hearing about?” Kuzon asked, “From what Uncle told me, she’s a big deal.”

“Yes, a very big deal,” Katara said, “Waterbending is her natural habitat, but she’s capable of much more.”

Tenzin looked to his left to see a dark skinned girl with her hair in a ponytail, in traditional water nation clothes.

“Korra?” he asked, “You’ve gotten so big!”

Korra bowed before Tenzin.

“Its an honor to see you again Tenzin,” Korra said.

“The honor is all mine,” Tenzin said, “Allow me to introduce you to my wife and family. And this young man is my nephew, Kuzon.”

Kuzon looked to see the girl.

“Kuzon, this is Korra, the avatar,” Katara said, introducing them to her.

“Pleased to meet your acquaintance,” they said, shaking Korra’s hand.

“Pleasure’s all mine,” Korra said with a smile, “I’ve heard a lot about you. Tenzin, is he really the powerful fighter I’ve been hearing about?”

Korra noticed the staff that Kuzon had behind him.

“What’s that behind you?” she asked.

“Oh this, this is my staff,” Kuzon said, “I’ve had it since I was 5, and it gives me a bit of an edge in combat.”

“Fascinating,” Korra said.

A giant polar bear dog walked up to Kuzon.

“This is my polar bear dog, Naga,’ Korra said, “She may look big and tough, but she’s a sweetie deep down.”

Naga then licked Kuzon’s face. This was a sign that she liked him.

“Haha, quite a wonder,” he said.

“That aside, I’m looking forward to the airbending training,” Korra said with a smile, “When do we get started?”

“Yea…. um……” Tenzin began.

Korra noticed that look.

“Honey, you’re going to have to tell her sooner or later,” Pema said.

“Tell me what?” Korra asked.

“I’m truly sorry Korra, but your training may have to wait a while. I’m only here for a visit, then I must return to Republic City,” Tenzin explained.

“But… but I thought you were gonna move here and train me,” Korra said, “How long will it be? A week, a month?”

“I’m afraid much longer than that,” Tenzin said, “I have responsibilities as one of the leaders of Republic City. The situation there is very unstable.”

“But you also have a responsibility to train me,” Korra said, “As much as I could find another teacher in the meantime, you’re the only one. We’re stuck with each other, like it or not.”

“I wish there were another way,” Tenzin said.

“Then I’ll just go with you to Republic City,” Korra said.

“That’s a great idea!” Kuzon said with a smile, “Plus we could get to-”

“Absolutely not!” A guard of the white lotus said, “The world is dangerous and we were tasked with guarding you while you mastered all 4 elements!”

“I get that, but that doesn’t mean you have to keep her locked up in this cage,” Kuzon said, “Sooner or later, she’ll need to get out and see the world with her own eyes!”

Korra sighed and left the room. Kuzon couldn’t help but feel sorry for the poor girl. He went after her. Later on everyone except for Kuzon began to leave back for Republic City. He said he had some ‘unfinished business’ to attend to. Kuzon saw Korra sitting by an igloo.

“Rough day?” he asked.

“Tell me about it,” Korra answered as she turned around, “I thought you had gone to Republic City with Tenzin.”

“I didn’t feel good about leaving a pretty girl like you upset,” Kuzon said.

Korra chuckled at the compliment.

“It just isn’t fair that I can’t start training,” she said.

Kuzon then looked to Korra.

“I don’t know if this will cheer you up or not but….” Kuzon said.

He then stood up and pushed his palm forward, emitting a flicker of light. Korra looked in amazement.

“Y-you’re a bender?” she asked.

“Well…… sort of,” Kuzon said, “I’m not sure how, but somehow I can manipulate light and use it in my own image. I can also create constructs, or blasts of light as a projectile. I don’t know how, but I can.”

Korra smiled in amazement at all of these facts.

“So here’s what I’m thinking. We sneak over to Republic City, and I get some training started for you,” Kuzon said, “I may not be an airbender, but I have some big knowledge.”

“You would do that?” she asked.

“Damn straight,” Kuzon said, “Anything to help the avatar.”

Korra smiled at her new friend.

Chapter 2: Path to Republic City

A little Trivia about Kuzon

Kuzon is an adopted boy who lives with Tenzin and his family of 5. While he cannot bend elements, he has extreme knowledge about them. He actually has something else. He can manipulate and bend light, and use it in many ways, shapes or forms, similar to Green Lantern, or Ms Marvel from the MCU.

Later on Kuzon and Korra snuck over to Naga. Korra started getting her untangled to leave.

“Nice evening for an escape isn’t it?” Katara asked, startling the two.

“Gran-gran, I can explain…” Kuzon said, “I was-”

“It was my idea,” Korra said, “I need to go to Republic City. I have to leave and find my own destiny as the avatar.”

“I know,” Katara said with a smile, “Aang’s time has passed, and many of my friends and family have passed away. It is time for a new generation to keep the balance in the world. I know you will achieve greatness in the future.”

Korra hugged Katara.

“Thank you,” she said.

Katara then turned to Kuzon.

“Make sure you take good care of her,” Katara said.

Korra then took the time to say goodbye to her parents. She followed Kuzon and Kaga onto a boat. After a few hours they finally made it to Republic City. Kuzon nudged Korra to wake up. She stirred awake and noticed they were finally at the city.

“Welcome to Republic City!” Kuzon said with a smile.

Korra got off the boat and saw a lot of amazing things. There were traveling cars, shops galore, and many other locations as far as the eye can see.

“This place is where I live,” Kuzon said pointing to a small house, “Its not much, but its home. After a few days we can go to the Northern Air Temple and-”

He noticed Korra wasn’t there.

“Korra?” she asked.

Korra was at a fish shop looking at all the tasty fish.

“I’ll take one of everything please,” Korra said.

“That will be 20 yuan,” the shopkeeper said.

Kuzon then arrived giving the shopkeeper the money.

“Keep the change,” he said, “Come on Korra, there’s still a lot you gotta see.”

“Well, its about time you found yourself a girl Kuzon,” the shopkeeper said.

“Yeah I-” Kuzon started before realizing what he meant, “Wait, that’s not what I-”

The shopkeeper just chuckled and walked away. Korra looked to him in confusion.

“What was all that?” Korra asked.

“Oh nothing,” Kuzon answered.

Kuzon continued giving Korra a tour of the entire city. Needless to say she was amazed at what she had seen. As they continued walking around, Kuzon heard someone. It was someone making a protest speech about benders.

“Are you tired of the tyranny of benders?!” he said, “Then become part of the equalists, and put a stop to bending once and for all! For years the benders have forced us nonbenders to live as if we were beneath them! Well it ends here and now!”

“Who are you to judge bending?” Korra asked, “Its the best thing in the world!”

“Lemme guess,” the protestor said, “You’re a bender.”

“Um… yes, I am,” Korra stated

“And I assume you’d just LOVE to knock me off this pedestal,” the protestor said, provoking Korra with a shit-eating grin.

“You’re damn right I would,” Korra said.

“This is exactly what I’m talking about,” the protestor said, “Benders oppress us with their entitlement and their bending!”

This comment made people turn against Korra and scowl at her.

“Wha… I’m not oppressing you!” Korra said, “You’re oppressing yourself!” I ought to-”

Kuzon held Korra back, not wanting her to start an unnecessary fight.

“Korra calm down,” Kuzon said, “We should get outta here while we still can.”

They continued walking around Republic City, while Korra was on Naga’s back.

“So what do you think of the city so far?” Kuzon asked.

“Apart from a few setbacks, I think this city is really great,” Korra said.

Kuzon turned to Korra and smiled.

“Once we get a few scrolls from the air temple, your training can begin,” he said, “And then we…”

They were interrupted by a crash. Kuzon saw a group of thugs running off with some belongings. It was the Triple Threat Triad. He knew this was his time to shine.

“Alright, finally some excitement!” Kuzon said.

He chased down the thugs while jumping from platforms. When he got close enough, he jumped into the air. He then fired a beam of light to the ground to distract the thugs. They were temporary blinded by the brightness. Kuzon then went around and started fighting off the thugs one by one. He failed to notice one of them about to attack Kuzon.

“Lights out boy!” he said.

Before anything could happen, Korra threw a waterball at him, knocking him down. Kuzon turned to Korra and smiled.

“Thanks for the help,” Kuzon said.

“Less talking more fighting,” Korra said.

Some bystanders came by and saw Korra doing different styles of bending. They were beginning to notice who she really was. The Triple Threat Triad realized they were outmatched and started to run away.

“These punks never learn,” Kuzon said.

Their moment of glory was short lived, as a metalbending cop arrived looking at Kuzon and Korra.

“Stay where you are, you in the blue!” he said.

“Metalbenders?” Korra asked.

More of the marrived and went down to stop the Triple Threat Triad from escaping. One of them looked at Korra.

“Well, looks like we did your job for ya,” she said.

“Arrest them too,” One of them said.

“What?” Kuzon asked, “did you not see what she just did?”

“We saw her disturbing the peace,” Another officer said to him.

“Hang on, just let me-” Korra started before being arrested.

She was taken into a car along with Naga. Kuzon protested against this.

“You can’t do this!” Kuzon said.

“If you have a complaint then bring it to our chief,” he said.

They drove away. Kuzon knew he was in some deep shit. He went to the Northern Air Temple to deliver the news.

Chapter 3: The Way The Leaf Blows

Korra was in a waiting room with the chief of police. Lin Beifong, the firstborn daughter of legendary Earthbender, Toph Beifong. Lin was giving Korra a glare.

“I don’t understand what I did wrong,” Korra said, “I stopped a criminal.”

“And you also interfered with police work,” Lin stated, “Not to mention disturbing the peace.”

“Disturbing the- I just got here!” Korra snapped.

“Well, you’re making a great start here Avatar,” Lin said.

“Wait, how did you know I’m the-” Korra started but was interrupted.

“Listen here, Korra was it?” Lin said, “Your Avatar ranking may impress others, but you have a long way to go with me. So sit there and shut up until someone arrives to get you.”

A cop arrived in the room.

“Tenzin has just arrived along with his adopted nephew,” he said.

“Send them in,” Lin ordered.

Tenzin and Kuzon arrived. Tenzin had a scowl on his face, while Kuzon had a look of sympathy.

“Sorry….” he said.

Tenzin turned his attention to Lin.

“Looking as ravishing as usual…” he started.

“Cut the bullshit,” Lin said, “Why are you here? Why is the Avatar in Republic City?”

“I’m not sure, but I will make sure she returns to the North Pole, and this time she’ll stay put,” Tenzin stated, “Release Korra and I will take all charges for what happened.”

“Very well,” Lin said, “Its not like I could stop you before, so why try now?”

“Come along Korra,” Tenizn said.

The two teens followed Tenzin out of the police station. Later on Tenzin gave Korra the riot act about her disobedience.

“Hold on Uncle, don’t blame all of this on her, it was my idea for her to start some crown training until you were available!” Kuzon said, as he defended Korra.

“But I was the one who begged him to take me,” Korra said.

“It doesn’t matter who’s idea it was,” Tenzin said, “The point is Korra disobeyed a direct order!”

“Well Katara told me that I should go,” Korra told Tenzin, “She said that my destiny was in Republic City!”

Don’t bring my mother into this!! ” Tenzin snapped.

“Uncle listen,” Kuzon said standing up, “I only got to know Korra for a day, but I can tell she’s gonna be a great extraordinary avatar. Her standing around in the northern air temple won’t help her any better to become the Avatar she was meant to be.”

Tenzin started listening to his nephew’s reasoning.

“And yea, she was a little brash with how she handled those thugs today,” Kuzon continued before turning his head to Korra, “No offense.”

“None taken,” Korra said, waving it off, “But I know why you had to stay here. This city needs you, yes, but it also needs me as well.”

“And me,” Kuzon said, “Sure I work outside the law, but I do some pretty good cleanup. I’ll make sure Korra stays out of trouble. You have my word.”

“You….” Tenzin said before he signed.

He started to realize he was right. The doors opened, revealnig Jinora, Ikki and Meelo.

“Korra!” Ikki said, “Are you staying?”

Korra looked down to the three airbenders and sadly smiled.

“Unfortunately no, I need to go back to my home,” Korra said.

“Actually…. I think we can make an arrangement,” Tenzin said.

“Wait, what?” Kuzon asked.

“I stayed in Republic City because I thought I needed to continue my father’s legacy… but now I see that you are his legacy Korra,” Tenzin said with a smile, “So I think its best for you to stay here and start your training. Republic City will need its Avatar soon.”

Korra smiled at this. Kuzon smiled being happy for his new friend. They started leaving the station, but they were stopped by a few reporters who were aware of the events that recently happened.

“Um hi….. I’m Korra,” she said.

“Are you moving into Republic City?” asked a reporter.

“Were you sending a message to those triads?”

“Are you gonna fight crime, the anti bending army or both?”

“Well I am here to stay but I don’t have a plan yet,” Korra stated, “I’m still in training, but soon I hope to be the best avatar there is for Republic City! I look forward to serving for you all.”
