Chapter Text

‘Three little birds sat on my window

And they told me I don't need to worry

Summer came like cinnamon, so sweet

Little girls, double-dutch on the concrete

Maybe sometimes we got it wrong, but it's all right

The more things seems to change, the more they stay the same

Ooh, don't you hesitate

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favorite song

You go ahead, let your hair down

Sapphire and faded jeans

I hope you get your dreams

Just go ahead, let your hair down

You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow’

Your melodious voice entertained the crowd, the guitar perfectly in tune. When you initially enrolled in university, you thought finding a job with a flexible schedule would be impossible. With your cousin’s recommendation, you applied to this hipster restaurant. The pay isn’t terrible and the schedule isn’t very restricting.

‘Blue as the sky, sunburnt and lonely

Sipping tea in a bar by the roadside

(Just relax, just relax)

Don't you let those other boys fool you

Gotta love that Afro hairdo

Maybe sometimes we feel afraid, but it's all right

The more you stay the same, the more they seem to change

Don't you think it's strange?’

You quickly gained popularity due to your soft voice and the variety of songs you perform. Gaining admirers on campus, your confidence grew. Singing has always brought you joy, from being in a church choir from a young age to making memories in your high school choir.

‘Just more than I could take

Pity for pity's sake

Some nights kept me awake

I thought that I was stronger

When you gonna realize that you don't even have to try any longer?

Do what you want to

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favorite song

You go ahead, let your hair down

Sapphire and faded jeans

I hope you get your dreams

Just go ahead, let your hair down

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favorite song

You go ahead, let your hair down

Sapphire and faded jeans

I hope you get your dreams

Just go ahead, let your hair down

Ooh, you're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow’

As you end the song, you get the usual cheers and you bow in appreciation. As you leave the stage, you’re approached by your manager Rachel.

“You did great (Y/N)! I appreciate you coming in, I know things are rough with finals.”

“It’s my pleasure! This is the only thing keeping me sane.” you joke as you pack up your guitar. In your guitar case, a letter and a rose fall out, catching you and Rachel by surprise. Curiosity getting the best of you, you pick up the letter to open it.

O my Luve is like a red, red rose

That’s newly sprung in June;

O my Luve is like the melody

That’s sweetly played in tune.

So fair art thou, my bonnie lass,

So deep in luve am I;

And I will luve thee still, my dear,

Till a’ the seas gang dry.

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,

And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;

I will love thee still, my dear,

While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only luve!

And fare thee weel awhile!

And I will come again, my luve,

Though it were ten thousand mile.’

-J

“Ooo, I wonder who this “J” person is..” Rachel ponders, reading over the poem. You’re slightly flushed, this being the first time you’ve ever had an admirer like this. You leave the restaurant, still thinking of the letter. Whoever this person is, they definitely like the old-fashioned way of courting!

“I wonder who could the letter be from? I hope this isn't some prank...” You whisper to yourself as you start your car. Not too far from the parking lot, A tall British man is watching from afar, admiring your beauty. Your dark skin, soft hair, perfect body, he’s looking forward to hearing his little siren once more.
