Work Text:

Coming home from a long day at work, your dad was ready to see his loving wife and child again. His work was nothing short of stressful, and your dad hated it. But he endured it, wanting to create a stable life for his family. Your dad had always been a family-oriented man, loving you and your mother more than anything in the world. He would have done anything for both of you.
When he came home, all the lights were off. It wasn't very late, only 6pm, so your dad wasn't sure what was going on. You'd told him you were going round to a friend's house and wouldn't be back till later, but he worried about his wife. She was usually at home on the couch when he got in, ready to greet him with a big smile and a kiss. But today she was nowhere to be found, unless she was sitting in the dark. Your dad turned on the light, dispelling this theory quite quickly.
"Darling...?" He called out through the house.

He heard no response.

"Honey...?!" Still no response, but a muffled giggle.
Oh! Maybe she was hiding from him! Your mom always did like to play those silly games on him.
Your dad made his way up the stairs, towards the sound of the giggling. It sounded like there was someone else there...why would she be hiding with someone else? Maybe she'd invited Doreen from book club over again. Once Doreen got your mom on the wine, there was no stopping the pair's antics.
He walked closer towards the sound, finding it coming from the bedroom. He flung the door open, and there was...a strange girl in your mom's bed? Kissing her?
"D-Darling...?" Your dad didn't know what to say. He'd never have expected his wife to cheat on him like this...how could he? He'd always been a good husband, treating her right, giving her everything she could have ever wanted...why wasn't that enough for her?
He brought a hand up to his mouth, muffling a sob.
Your mom quickly pushed the girl off herself, running over to her husband.
"Oh, no...you weren't meant to be home yet! I promise...I promise I was going to tell you! I was scared! Scared you wouldn't accept me for who I am...scared you'd be mad at me...I wasn't ready yet!" She cried, attempting to excuse her actions.

But the damage was already done. Your dad pushed her away.
"No...my love, I can't. I would have been less upset if you'd just told me you were gay. I'm not homophobic. But this? Cheating on me with no explanation? Don't you see how much more hurtful this is?!"
He pointed to the door with a shaky finger.
"Please...leave my home. We can talk about a divorce and the likes later, and custody of our child, but right now I need time to process. Please, just give me this."
As he was speaking, the girl approached him.
"Sir...I'm sorry. My name is Jess, I'm your wife's lover. I just...I have to apologise. I didn't mean to stab you. I promise." She pulled the knife out of his abdomen. Hold on, when had she stabbed him?
Your dad clutched his stomach quickly. Your mom got off her knees, giving Jess a passionate kiss in front of your dying father.
As he bled, he choked out obscenities towards both Jess and your mom. Jess kicked him over, and he fell down dead.

~~~
A few months later, this new home had become your new normal. Jess was a loving stepmother to you, and your mom was happier than ever with her new girlfriend. Of course, you wondered why your dad had cut all contact with you after the divorce, but you were sure he must have had a good reason. Your father was very good to you, why would he just stop talking for no reason at all?
Jess gently tapped you. You must have zoned out! She looked concerned, so you gave her a smile which seemed to satisfy her.
"Lost you for a second there! I was just asking if you minded me talking to you privately."
You nodded, not really thinking much of it. You followed her down the hall, where she made sure your mom wasn't listening.
"Listen, I really love your mother. You know I do. But I also care about you. I wanted to ask...would it be okay with you if I asked your mom to marry me? I wanted your input before I went behind your back and did it."
You shrugged. Jess was a good person, and made your mom happy. You liked seeing her happy.
"I think you should. You make my mom happy. I like seeing her happy." Dude...I just said that. Be original, asshole.
Jess smiled happily. She was excited! She'd get to marry your mom!
~~~

The wedding day came very quickly. It felt like just a few lines in a story since Jess had asked for your blessing. Standing with her up at the front, waiting for your mom to walk down the aisle in a matching white dress to Jess's, you knew you'd made the right choice. The beam on Jess's face was so heart-warming, you shed a tear.
Eventually, your mom made her way down the aisle. She looked radiant, beaming just as big as her fiancée was. Your grandfather, walking her down the aisle, was in pieces crying. He was so happy for Jess and your mom.
She finally got there, giving Jess a soft kiss on the forehead and she turned to face the Patreon subscription benefit.
"Do you, [READER'S MOTHER], take this woman to be your kismesis- I MEAN your lawfully wedded wife?"
"I do," she replied.
"And do you, Jess McJess, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
"I do."
"By the power...blah blah blah...make out already."
And they did! You had to look away, it was a little weird to see your moms kissing.

The ceremony was beautiful, and the brides had snuck off a few hours into the reception. Everyone assumed they'd wanted to be alone with one another for a little while as wife and wife, so nobody questioned it.
But after a while...neither had returned. You started to get worried. Where were they? The reception was all for them, after all. You went in search of them.

Wandering the halls of the grand building your mom had rented out for the wedding, you heard a faint giggling. It was Jess's voice! How relieved you were. You walked towards the noise of her laughing, only to be greeted by her sat on the floor with her phone in hand.
"Ah! Hello! Look at this meme I found!" She turned her phone towards you, showing a YouTube thumbnail entitled "Terrifying fishes walks on land, breathes air, and threatens to destroy the Phillippines"
You stared at it for a few moments, before the thing next to her caught your eye. Your mother, white dress stained red, dead on the floor. Jess was still giggling.
"...Jess...?"
"Hmm?"
You hesitated. "What's wrong with my mom...?"
Jess looked down at your mom's corpse, then back up at you. "She's sleepy! Aren't you sleepy too? It's getting quite late!"

It was 4:30pm.

You looked down at yourself, only to find a knife embedded in your chest. "Wha...?"
You fell to the ground, on top of your mother. "Why are you doing this...?" Jess only laughed. "You fool...I married your mother for TAX BENEFITS!" "You monster..."

The last thing you heard was a distorted "A young man stands alone in his bedroom, it just so..."

And you lost consciousness.
