Chapter 1: Chapter 1: The Beginning

Chapter Text

Alyssa Marie Gilbert was a happy child. She had loving parents, an adorable younger brother, and a twin sister who she got along well with. She was a daughter of a founding family in the small town of Mystic Falls Virginia which meant that she wanted for nothing as she was growing up.

Everything was normal in her life until she turned six years old, that was when her memories from her previous life returned. they came to her and dreams at first, trickling in slowly as though to cause her the least amount of damage possible. Even so she was only a child, so the idea of having memories that did not feel like hers scared her a lot. The memories that she saw were strange as well. Many of them involved people in her life, and events that had yet to pass. It wasn’t until she was around 10 that she realised the truth, the world she now lived in had been a TV show in her last life and her family and friends had been some of the main characters in it.

for a long time, Alyssa was in denial. She didn’t want to believe that the memories could be real, she didn’t want to think that the supernatural was real at all either. it wasn’t until she accidentally set her bed on fire after a particularly bad dream that she realised that not only was the supernatural real but that she may well be a part of it.

With that realisation, she was quick to hide the evidence of the strange occurrence from her parents. she was panicking, because if her suspicions were right then she was a witch. she didn’t know what to do. From the dreams that she had been having for years now, she knew that the Bennett family were also witches but she didn’t know if she could fully trust Sheila Bennett. She spent the rest of that night thinking over her options, but in the end she decided that going to Sheila was her only option. She could only hope that the older woman would teach her the things she would need to know to face the dangers she now knew for certain would come to Mystic Falls.

The next morning was a Saturday and so Alyssa got up early and had breakfast before leaving the house to go and visit Sheila Bennett. thankfully, Alyssa’s good friend Bonnie Bennett was staying with her father that weekend so the old woman was alone in her house. as Alyssa approached the house, she tried not to be nervous. Sheila had always been kind to her after all so she was hopeful that the woman would help her.

She knocked on the door and waited for only a few moments before Sheila opened it looking a little confused but welcoming nonetheless.

Open double “Alyssa? What are you doing here this morning child?”

Alyssa bit her lip nervously. “I’m sorry to bother you Mrs Bennett, but I think I’m a witch!” She blurted her cheeks turning pink from her nervousness and slight embarrassment.

Sheila Bennett raised an eyebrow, her gaze turning thoughtful. She studied Alyssa for a few long moments and then gestured for her to enter her home. Alyssa did so, and soon enough she was sitting across from Sheila in the living room both of them holding a cup of tea in their hands.

“So tell me child, what makes you think that you might be a witch? And why have you come to me with this?”

Again, Alyssa’s nerves almost got the better of her. She took a deep breath, deciding that trusting Sheila was her best option right now. She didn’t tell her everything of course. She told Sheila that she had seen visions of a possible future, leaving out the fact that these visions were really memories from a past life where their world was a TV show. She didn’t go into detail about her visions though, she wanted to keep those to herself for now. she told her about the incident with her burning bed, and threw it all Sheila listened patiently before speaking at last when Alyssa had run out of things to say.

“It would certainly seem that you’re right my dear. You are definitely a witch, and a strong one at that if your powers are coming out this early.”

Alyssa couldn’t help but smile at that. The thought of being strong enough to protect herself and others made her feel quite proud of herself. Seeing this, Sheila smiled a little as well. “We better start on your training then hadn’t we? We wouldn’t want all that magic to go to waste, especially in one with the strength that you have.”

Alyssa was also happy to agree. Sheila brought down a thick grimoire from a shelf, and told Alyssa to read it before their next meeting. It was full of the basic uses for several herbs, and some basic theories of magic that Sheila wanted her to learn before they tried anything practical. Although disappointed that she wasn’t getting to do spels straightaway, Alyssa understood that she needed to know the basics before anything else. She thanked Sheila profusely and left the house, knowing that this was the start of her planned to begin changing the events that she’d seen in her past life‘s memories.
