Chapter Text
"You can't possibly think this is gonna work Soph. I love you, you're my best friend, but I dunno about this. I could do jail time for this"
"And that's why nobody has to know. This can just be between you and I. C'mon Luke, you know I wouldn't ask if I had another option, and I don't. And you know I wouldn't do Mary like this either"
"Soph, we're talking about marriage, a fake one at that. I know it's to help you get what you need but-.....have you even spoken to Mary?"
Sophie's frustration could be heard in the form of a growl from the hallway, where keen ears listened in on their conversation
"No, no I haven't because I wanted to talk to you first. Luke, this is a matter of life and death. I have a few days of insulin left, after that? I'm as good as dead"
There was silence. Luke's gaze on the floor, his eyes darted around as thought he was contemplating.
"You're not....considering this, right? You can't possibly think you'll get away with this"
Sophie lets out a deep sigh, rolling her eyes when she turns to see the shorter woman standing in the doorway
"Luke"
Sophie: I don't recall asking for your opinion and neither did he?
Luke: You guys, don't start. Please
"Luke, you literally just said you could go to jail. That's a record and your time in the forces done. Tell me you're not actually thinking about this?"
Luke: Ryan, she's my friend
Ryan: Yeah, So am I. I would never ask you to throw away your career, your life.
Sophie: Do you think for a second, that I haven't exhausted my options?.....why are you even here listening to our conversation Ryan? Don't you have some girl's bed to invade?
Ryan laughs humorlessly, "I think I'm allowed to look out for my friend, and I'm saying....don't do it. This could end badly and you KNOW Mr Fox would skin you alive Luke
Ryan purposefully ignored the last part of Sophie's questioning her business
Sophie scoffs and swings her bag over her shoulder, she walks up to Luke, giving him a hug. "Please just think about it. I'm not forcing you. I'm just.....desperate right now"
Sophie pulls away from their embrace, smiles at Luke and turns to leave
"Bye, nosey"
"Very mature Sophie"
There wasn't a reply, just the door closing softly and Sophie's car pulling out of the driveway as she leaves
Ryan and Luke spend another hour talking about what just happened. After Luke explained the situation to Ryan, she understood Sophie's predicament. Luke swears Ryan to secrecy, he knows if Sophie finds out he's told Ryan her business she'd flip.
Ryan: Look dude, I get it. But it's risky. And plus the whole town knows Sophie swings for my team. How the heck are you guys planning on being convincing about this? And we leave in a few days, then what?
Luke shrugs. He has no answers for any of Ryan's questions right now. If he does this, he would need to speak to Mary and iron out the kinks with Sophie. He knows his decision needs to come quickly; they only have about two weeks until they're gone.
