Pandemonium

Summary:

"A year from now, we won't be lovers
We'll just be suits and ties and shoes
And we will grow without our parents
'Cause soon we will be giants too"

It wasn't a year, rather a little less than a decade later. But they got their wish nevertheless.

Notes:

Wooo i finally have the courage to post on ao3. So this was originally wrote on November 12, a few hours after the first teaser was put out, and my hand instantly went to writing after not writing a single fic in like 3 years.

Chapter Text

They made it out of the city but the helicopters and armored vehicles still followed, and they ran. They ran as fast as their now giant legs could take them.

One of the helicopters announced something, maybe a warning of sorts. Jack couldn't tell, the only thing he wanted was to collapse and scream. But he knew he can't do that. The same moment they stop could be the same moment their entire lives end.
There has to be a way to get back to normal.. Right?

Ryan pointed at the mountains "Maybe we can lose them in the mountains!" he shouted at the other two.

Adam nodded and took the lead, jumping over one that was a little bit more than half his height, and disappeared behind it. Ryan followed and so did Jack, only to discover it was a valley, and that on the other side of the mountain was taller then what they had jumped over.

Much, much taller.

'Shit shit shit shit' Jack repeated in his head. Even with their new height, it was still a long ways to go.

They slid down as carefully as they could as Adam, who had just made it down and regaining his balance, suggested to duck down and hide behind any mountain that would cover them.

And so they did. The armored vehicles couldn't get in the valley, so the helicopters had to take it from there.

What was 5 minutes felt like 5 hours, and 5 hours felt like 5 days. But 5 hours it was when the last helicopter finally left after searching for them, the sun had set already.

"I... I think their gone" Jack who was shaking, whispered out. Despite Jack being who said it, Ryan was first one to come out. Then Jack, then Adam.

Ryans glasses were skewed and cracked in one eye, Adams hair was down and a knotted mess, and Jack had bloodshot eyes from silently crying.

Adam sat down on a clearing and rested his back and head on a mountain next to a small stream... or rather if they were normal size would have been a river.

"What the fuck..." he groaned quietly. Jack leaned on a mountain and put his hand on his forehead, looked up to the sky.

"We gotta fix this..." Ryan murmured
"Fucking how?!" Jack snaped back. The other two brothers look at Jack in surprise, as he looked down and met their gazes.

"Were fucked. Were so fucked." He could feel a lump in his throat "Were never going to be normal again" he gripped and clawed at the hat on his head "Were never going to be able to see anyone again, no Dad or mom or..." Tears formed in his eyes as he was about to say his girlfriends name. "The second we leave this fucking hole" voice cracking, "were going to be blown up by the fucking military."

Jack slid down the mountain and held his knees to his chest. Adam let out a shakey breath and closed his eyes trying to keep a steady breathing pace while Ryan sat down as well.

He took of his glasses to inspect the damage done and looked at the one cracked lens in his hands, but his vision became more blurry than usual. Tears dripped down from his face and hit his glasses that he held in his lap.

Chapter Text

The night breeze whistled in his ears. He would be lying if he said he wasn't cold, he was.

He was also the only one up. No mater how hard Adam tried to fall asleep like his younger brothers he couldn't float away to the land of dreams and restfulness.

He accepted that he wouldn't be able to sleep, at best he had to guess it was around 1 AM currently. He had a while ago whispered out to them, none of which responded.

He wouldn't lie, he was jealous at the fact that they could sleep at a time like this. But he was also glad they could. If he couldn't feel a little bit rested, at least they could.

Maybe it's the underlying fear of being found that keeping him awake. Maybe it's the thoughts that swam in his head while the air was empty. He shook his head, looking around trying to find something to do to take his mind off things.

He ran his hand though his hair only to find it knotted. Really knotted. Adam sighed, he did ask for something else to do.

Starting at the bottom of his hair he brushed it out with his fingers. "Ow ow ow" he hissed out, quietly enough to not wake his brothers.

He hadn't noticed how long it had gotten. He had it in a bun for many days, really only taking it out when he sleeps and showers.

15 minutes have passed and he got to a point where his arms had gotten tired but his hair was much smoother.

Running through his hair one last time to find more knots, he laid his arms down to rest and close his eyes for a bit to see if he could sleep.

Of course, none came to him.

His thoughts circled back to when Jack was spiraling. He felt a pang of guilt when he realized that he should have at least comforted him.

But he knew deep down he wouldn't have been able to, he himself was on the edge of breaking down at that time and it wouldn't have done any good for either of them.

He sighed and thought to himself that just sitting there wasn't doing any good. He slowly rose from where he was sitting, nearly stumbling as his legs were sore from running.

He looked down and he instantly regretted it; he saw how high up he was, he realized how big he was. And he hated it. He hated how easy it would be to touch the top of the mountains if he were to just jump. He hated being so god damn big for the entire world to see.

His mind went back to New York City, and what damage they had unintentionally done with their new forms.

He breathed in and out slowly, regaining his composure. Once he felt himself more stable, he looked around to see if anything was of interest to check out.

Something caught Adams eye, something shimmering in the moonlight. It was past Ryan, so he carefully stepped over him, trying to make not so much noise or shake the ground to hard.

Once he was over, he walked a little bit more to discover a pretty large lake that the end of the river was attached to. "Well this is nice.." He murmured.

He knelt down and cupped some water in his hands and splashed it on his face. The cold water was a nice refresher he thought.

He wipped off his face with his sleeve as he sat down, knees to his chest.

"Mind if I sit here?" Adam jumped as he turned to look at the owner of the voice. It was Ryan "Yeah.. yeah here" He scooted over to let Ryan sit down

"Sorry, did I wake you up?" Adam asked
"No, no I was up" Adam could tell he was lying, as he recalled when he passed over him he could hear him slightly snoring
"Oh.." Adam simply said, not wanting to dwell on that thought for too long.

Ryan sighed "Jack was right, were fucked. I mean, come on, how do you fix this?" He gestured to himself and Adam. "And ya' know even if we were to fix this wouldn't we like, wanted by the military or something? FBI? Men In Black or whatever?"

Adam breathed out "I mean.. Look at the bright side?" he asked "Were still together. And I know how much you absolutely dispise me" he joked " Im still going to be your older brother and still going to be here for you- both of you, weather you like it or not" He said matter of factly.

Ryan chuckled "Oh yeah, your the worst brother to ever exist" He played on to Adams joke. Ryan smiled "Thanks for that.. I mean yeah, I guess your right. When have we never been there for each other?"

"When you two framed me for stepping on the neighbors newly planted Delilahs when we all know it was Ryan who pushed me" Jack revealed himself as he sat on the other side of Adam.

"Well it was YOU who ate the rest of my chocolate bar when I said no so I mean it was technically your fault. Its a domino effect thing." Ryan defended

"Mm I still think you should have been the one grounded for it" Jack shot back. "I don't think I've ever seen Mrs. Rachel so pissed" Adam said, referring to the then middle aged women of whos flowers Jack stepped on.

They kept talking on about their childhood memories for a few hours, laughing things they used to do, mocking how they acted when they were teens, joyful memories of the whole family getting together for the holidays, small injurys they aquired by doing stupid things, and other warm memories.

When Ryan glanced up at the sky, he realized that the sun had just started to rise by the darkness retreating and an orange and pink hue replacing it.

Ryan rose from the shore of the lake and gestured to the other two "Come on!"

"Where are you going?" Jack asked as he got up, dusted the sand off his pants and followed him, Adam following suit.

They followed Ryan to two smaller mountain peeks as they watched him grab the top of them and hoisted himself to the other side

Panic spread through Jack and Adam as Jack called out to him "Wait! Someone's gonna see us!" Ryan popped his head over the mountains "The citys on the other side, I doubt anyone's gonna see us.. Hurry up!" He reassured

Jack glanced at Adam as he did the same as what Ryan had did moments ago.

Adam sighed looking at the peeks. Maybe.. Maybe this won't be so bad after all? He thought.

When Adam made it over, Jack and Ryan were sitting on the side of the mountain, entranced by the sun rise.

He joined them and admired the sky.

"Wow.. You don't see this kind of view in the city" Jack breathed out.

Yeah, Adam thought. We can get through this.
