Chapter 1: L O V E

Chapter Text

“Did you know that there’s some new girl coming today?” Tara, one of Ashido’s friends exclaimed loudly.

It was 3rd hour, mathematics. It wasn’t Eijiro’s favorite subject in the world, but it definitely wasn’t his least favorite.

What was his least favorite, was listening to Ashido and her friends talk about anything and everything that they could during homework time. It was loud and distracting, much like Ashido herself, but it wasn’t unpleasant by any means.

“Wait really?” Ashido asked, even louder than Tara had beforehand. Eijiro could only guess that Tara had shook her head because Ashido then exclaimed (even louder), “WOO!! Finally!! We’ve needed a new student for a while! It’s been kinda boring around here lately.”

Eijiro couldn’t exactly disagree. He had been going to school with these kids since elementary, the last new kid there was.. was Ashido herself a few years back. She had moved from Aoyama, Tokyo when Eijiro had turned 8. They were 10&11 now.

Eijiro couldn’t help but wonder what this new girl would look like. Sound like, smell like, what her hobbies were, what her quirk was. New kids were always pretty interesting.

Eijiro’s mind then wondered to the news he had seen earlier that year, around fall time. There was a girl, around his age, that was all over the news cause of some kidnapping story. He didn’t remember what she looked like exactly, but according to the press, she had some electricity quirk that was emotion-based. Emotion-based quirks weren’t uncommon by a long shot, but it didn’t make it any less surprising he supposes.

He had heard his sister, Hako, and his mother talk about it. They seemed interested in the story, but the public eye wasn’t revealed to much because of how private the story had supposedly been.

A loud phone going off startled Eijiro out of his thoughts, as the teacher tripped over her own feet trying to get to the phone quick enough. Eijiro went back to his homework, they were going over some.. fraction shit he didn’t understand. Maths wasn’t his strong suit. PE was though.

“Kirishima?” Sensei called out. Eijiro looked up at her and raised an eyebrow. “The counselor would like to see you. It’s about the new student.”

Oh. Right, yeah, Eijiro was a part of the welcoming committee. He had only joined because it was an in-school club that was easy. It have him something to do besides sit at his mothers Ramen House or sit at home doing nothing.

Eijiro gathered his things, and began the slow walk to the counselor’s office. The counselor, Kiki, was nice. She wasn’t mean or anything, and she didn’t have an intimidating quirk and she was easy to talk to. Makes sense to why she’s a counselor he supposes.

Upon arrival, he knocked four times and waited patiently. Eijiro picked at his skin softly, a nervous habit he had picked up from his mother. After about 30 seconds, Kiki had called out a soft “Come In!”

Eijiro opened the door slowly and closed it softly. He walked forward a bit before curly yellow hair came into his view. His eyes followed the curls and was met with (who he was guessing) the new student.

She had blonde shoulder-length hair with a few strands a dark black color. She had gorgeous yellow eyes, they were so bright and sparkly. Her face was covered in freckles, and from what he could see, so was her neck and arms. There were scars covering her arms and legs, some larger and darker than others. She had black earrings in, they were the in shape of lightning bolts, she had a few bracelets on as well. All made of different colored beads and string. She had a singular necklace on, it was a red star and it looked like it was made out of Ruby. She had the school uniform on. Her socks were mismatched, red and blue, and her shoes were white and had little drawings of figures and shapes all in different colors and textures. Her bag was no different than the rest of her, bright and colorful. It was white with hundreds of drawn on shapes and faces and buildings, there were pins and keychains on it as well. She was bright and beautiful. So beautiful.

“Hello Eijiro. This is Himari Kaminari.” Kiki introduced him to the gir- Himari. “Himari, this is Eijiro Kirishima. He’ll be giving you a warm welcome and an even warmer tour.” She did the same with Himari, and gave a run down of what Eijiro would do.

The two left, and as he stood in front of her, he could make out a small scar underneath her left eye. He smiled at this because he, himself, had a scar above his right eye. It was like they were matching!

“I like your bracelets.” Eijiro whispered. Himari looked up slowly, her electric golden eyes staring into his, big and soft, before squinting.

“Are your teeth real?” She whispered back, stepping closer to look at Eijiro’s teeth.

Eijiro couldn’t help but flush, that’s what she’s focusing on? He smiled and her eyes went wide and she flinched a bit. “Uh- yeah they’re real. Why? do they not look real?” He asked softly, he inherited his teeth from his mother.

“No- I-i’ve just never seen someone have teeth lil yours. Have you ever bitten someone with them?” Himari asked curiously, her hand raised slightly before lowering again. She gripped the edge of her skirt, like not touching him was killing her or something.

“I’m not much of a biter.” He answered sheepishly, he didn’t know why but he wanted to hug her for some reason. She seemed so inviting and warm, but also so locked away and timid.

She crossed her arms and stared at her shoes, it seemed like she was thinking long and hard about what she was going to say next, but that next never came.

“Do you want to see anything in particular?” Eijiro asked softly as he looked down at her. She was weirdly small.

“Uhm.. do.. do you have an art room?” Himari asked wearily. She really asked it in barely a whisper, and Eijiro almost missed it.

“Yeah! Yeah we totally do! It’s right by the library, c’mon!” He exclaimed happily. He wasn’t any good at art, not by a long shot, but it was still fun to get his hands dirty.

They walked in a comfortable silence and as they did so, the bell for fourth period rang loudly. Eijiro had assumed he’d miss the rest of classes, so he wasn’t too worried about the bell. Himari though, she jumped out of her skin. She seemed jumpy, but wow. She stared wearily up at the speakers, where the loud sound came from.

After she calmed down a bit (which she did remarkably fast), they kept walking. The library was on the third floor, and they were on the first. It took a lil bit of walking, but they got there eventually.

“Here it is! In all it’s messy, sticky, almost gross glory!” Eijiro smiled and looked around the art room. His school’s art room was a lot bigger than most, it had two levels to it actually. A ladder connecting the two levels.

Himari’s eyes lit up. Eijiro could tell art was her thing, she was practically covered in it. She was basically oozing paint and glitter.

Eijiro decided that he liked Himari and all her.. weird glittery baggage.

Himari decided that she liked Eijiro and his weirdly sharp teeth.

________________________

Eijiro wasn’t exactly one for snooping or anything, but he and Himari had been friends for over a year and he had never seen her sketchbook once!! He felt like he was gonna burst if he didn’t see it soon.

So, while she was in the bathroom during lunch, he decided to look into it. He knew snooping was unmanly, and he shouldn’t do it, but he just couldn’t help it!!

So, he opened up the sketchbook with a drawing of the night sky on the front. It was a gorgeous drawing, and he just was itching to see more.

He opened it slowly and almost gasped, the drawings were absolutely amazing! The shading, lighting, line art, they were crazily awesome.

He flipped through the pages, and saw drawings of him, his sister, his mother, pro hero’s, teachers, even Ashido! They were all gorgeous, and weirdly reali-

“Eijiro! What are you doing!?” He heard a shriek behind him. Eijiro whipped his head around quicker than he thought he could, and his eyes widened.

“Uhhhhhhhhh not.. snooping?” He suggested softly.

Himari deadpanned and rolled her eyes. “If you wanted to see it, you could’ve just asked.”

“Really?” Himari nodded softly. “Cool! Can I keep looking?” Again, she nodded softly.

Himari had a fond look on her face as she watched Eijiro flip the pages.

She liked Eijiro looking at her drawings.

___________________________

Now, years later, they’re both at UA.

Himari is now Denki. And Denki isn’t a she, he’s a he.

Denki and Eijiro aren’t best friends anymore either. They’re boyfriends.

They’re cuddling on the couch in the UA dormitory, Denki’s sketching Ashido as her and Eri talk away. Eijiro can’t help but stare lovingly at Denki.

Eijiro knew from that first glance in their junior high’s counselor’s office, that they were the love of his life.

Eijiro never exactly believed in the four lettered word, never knew why it was so important to people, but now.. he gets it. Gets why people like to cling to someone else and whisper loving things in their ears. He understands the couples that are all over each other in movie theaters and at restaurants. He relates to the people who stare at their significant other and fawn over them.

Eijiro loves feeling like this. He never wants it to stop, in fact.

Eijiro loves Denki.

Denki loves Eijiro.

They’re happy. Safe. Secure.

Eijiro thanks Kiki in his head quietly as he watches Denki put the finishing highlights on the drawing.
