Chapter Text
2 Years Later…
Breathlessly, she closed her eyes to take in the thunderous applause and the countless chants of her name by the thousands. When Kara Danvers opened her eyes again, fans from every stand in the stadium were looking at her with adoration, the echoes of the last song she sung still on their lips with phones in the air to light up even the furthest seats from the stage. “Philadelphia, you sure know how to welcome a girl home!” She laughed into the mic as she began to walk towards her old guitar that had appeared on stage. The cheering followed her as she walked down the stage, waving pausing for a pictures with fans when she could. “I made them put the guitar this far away so we could walk and talk. How’re we feeling?”
The crowd responded in a resounding roar and Kara could feel her smile growing ever wider as she reached her destination. She picked up her guitar and began to strum to silence the crowd a tad. “I’ll take that as you’re feeling good! I don’t think we’ve stopped dancing tonight so if it’s okay with you Philly, I want to slow things down some.”
Another cheer, but more tame than the last, responded. Kara continued to play chords, to tease the crowd of which song would be coming for them next, and smiled conspiratorially to the fans in the pit who kept mouthing various songs at her. She kept shaking her head and scanned the crowd before they landed on a black box to the left of the stage.
The thing about touring Kara finds particular joy in is designing her stage. She has been told by multiple stadiums and representatives that she is the most involved artist they have had in the designing process. From the stage design, to the lighting, to the closest seat, to the furthest seat, Kara makes sure her show is accessible and enjoyable for all fans. This applied to her loved ones as well, who always had a seat at any show in any state or country in a box she could always see from stage. This box was different from the last. This time, Kara made sure to have specific lighting placed so she could see who sat there for her first solo tour. For the next song, she needed to see a certain shade of green and crimson lips around an old fashioned so she could sing it just right.
“Before we get on with this next song, I just wanted to thank you all for choosing to spend your night with me of all people,” Another roar and Kara playfully shushed the fans. To anyone recording her, it appeared that she was looking out into the crowd and talking to them. Kara knew this wasn’t the case. She locked eyes with that particular person in the box and grinned. She was talking to her right now, the thousands of fans had disappeared in her mind. In this sold out stadium where everyone had screamed her name and her songs, Kara felt like it was just the two of them. “No, I’m serious. You never gave up on me even when all the signs told you to. Everyone in this room has read the words that have circulated around me, listened to the rumors and yet you still kept your faith in me. And now here we are, celebrating love and loss and finding yourself in the most unlikely of places. For that, I am beyond thankful. For that… I am beyond Lucky.”
Kara began to sing and the crowd followed her lead. Thousands of voices became one to sing about how life had a way of placing you exactly where you needed to be with the person you least expected. 'Lucky' was for those meetings of happenstance that felt like the Fates themselves had led you by the hand to that place, to that person. For some fans, they were singing to the person next to them. For others, they sang louder in hopes that their person would maybe hear them from wherever they were. As for Kara Danvers?
She directed her attention to the third seat in the box standing just off of stage left. A woman stood there with a beaming smile that dimmed the bright stage lights that shined down on Kara. She met those green eyes with a smile of her own and continued to sing 'Lucky' to the woman who inspired the song.
