Chapter Text
Mon steps out of the dazzling Mercedes with the help of her driver. The young man, Nop, smiled brilliantly at her as she runs her hands down her pleated skirt and then takes the pink Valentino bag from the seat onto her shoulder.
“Thank you, Nop,” Mon smiles at her friend.
The young man rolls his eyes, “Your welcome, Lady Kornkamon.”
“Nop,” Mon grins cutely, “You’re my friend! Don’t call me that!”
Nop shakes his head while closing the door and locking the luxury car. The two had been friends all their lives and, up until Mon’s sudden life change, had always joked with each other as siblings do in public. Now, however, Nop had been hired to follow Mon around as he was the only male that was trusted to be around her. With his new position in her life, he took his job seriously, especially where they were headed today.
“Well technically you're my boss, so,” Nop smirks.
“You were my friend first,” Mon shakes her head as she walks behind him, “Do you call Yuki ‘Lady Yuki’ or are you just being annoying again?”
“I’m on the clock,” Nop softly scolds, “What if she heard me call you ‘Mon’ with other people around? She could fire me!”
“She wouldn’t,” Mon rolls her eyes, “And even if she did, I’d ignore her and force her to hire you again.”
“Happy wife, happy life,” Nop scoffs.
Mon simply grins at him, proceeding to walk through the shopping center surrounding the tall office building. The shopping center was full of local brands and a few restaurants. The decorations were modern and whimsical, showing the up-scale shoppers that while new it held a dignity that should be respected.
Mon walks past groups of young people, most of them shopping or lingering in stores, catching the eyes of a few of them as she did. The young woman ignored them as she had her mind focused on her destination. Nop, on the other hand, kept his eyes sharp around them, he naturally always took care of mon so it was easy to do so.
Before long they reach the office space at the farthest part of the lot. They walk around the side of the building to find the double doors and as they do a bright yellow Porche calls to them. Mon stops in her tracks to stare lovingly at the vehicle until Nop coughs jokingly. The woman gives him a playful glare before peaking at the car once more.
“This way,” Nop pulls out the company Identification from his coat, “It's almost lunchtime. Are you sure you should have come all the way here? She might be busy.”
Mon continues to smile as Nop swipes the card and opens the door, “Of course I’m sure. I doubt she’s going to turn me away.”
Nop shugs at her, preferring to lead their way. The bright entrance was very modern and had a feminine aura that left Mon breathless. If she ever wanted to work for a content creative this place certainly would be at the top of her list.
The wood structure across from the entrance had a front desk with two women sitting at it. They both raised their head from their station ready to greet them when they see Nop walk past them and to the staircase. Mon follows him, greeting them silently with a quick nod. The women stare at them as they leave only to look at each other for a few seconds.
“Who was that with Nop,” one of the women asks the other.
“I don’t know,” the second woman frowns, “A new hire?”
“I mean she looks young enough,” the first woman nods slowly.
“Should we tell Noi?”
A beat passes then the second woman takes the office phone and quickly calls the number for HR.
“Noi? Nop is heading your way. He’s with a girl. I don’t know he just walked up with her. Alright. Bye.”
The second Noi puts the phone back in its cradle, she stands up quickly and dashes to her door. As the woman leaves her office, Nop reaches the third floor with a young woman trailing behind him. Noi stops in her steps and stares in wonder at the young woman.
Dressed in a baby pink pleated skirt and a white silky blouse, the woman looked young and sweet. The pastel color palette matched the sweet aura around her. Her hair was wavy and settled around her shoulders like a halo. But her most striking features were her European facial features. The woman was clearly not Thai and even if she were, she was not completely so.
“Nop,” Noi calls out after finding her voice, “What are you doing here? Is Lady Boss okay?”
Nop turns to the woman, “Ah. Noi. Hi. I just came to pick her up for lunch. Is she in her office?”
“Y-yes,” Noi nods, eyes still glancing past him to the shorter woman, “And who is this?”
If the loud conversation hadn’t caught the attention of the Content Creator floor, then the appearance of the two people already had. From Yha to Chin, the entire team was pretending not to look interested as the scene played out in front of the. The news must have gone out past the creators because Auntie Mhee appeared from the upper floor staircase with a duster in her hand as if to start a new task.
“Ah,” Nop glances over behind him, “This is-”
“Auntie Mhee!”
The glass doors of the CEO's office swing inward and a dark presence exits the room. Dressed from head to toe in black was the new owner of the company. A silky translucent pinstripe blouse paired off with flowy dress pants and red-bottom high heels was enough to make all backs straighten in attention as if it were a military uniform.
The woman, with her eyes scrunched up and her right hand gripping her temple continues, “Auntie Mhee! I need you to get me something to drink. A tea or something-”
“What’s wrong darling?”
Lady Sam’s eyes widen at the familiar voice. She turns to watch as a cotton-candy-dressed young woman walks up to her wearing a tender gaze.
“Mon,” Sam’s tone shifts to a sweet one that leaves the room in shock.
In the few short weeks that Lady Sam had taken over Diversity, she had never been anything other than hard and strict. There were times she was soft for example when she had caught Noi doubled over in pain during her period on her second week. The boss lady took one look at her and then sent her home with the promise of paying her for the days she’d be absent. But other than that…
“Darling,” Mon cups the older woman’s face, “What’s wrong? Is it your head again?”
Sam’s shocked frown turns into a pout, “Mmm.”
“Oh, baby,” Mon coos, “It's a good thing I came to see you. I knew you were going to work yourself sick, sooner or later.”
Nop bites his bottom lip tightly, trying not to laugh at the PDA in front of him. His eyes look around the room only to force him to bite his cheek to prevent his humor to be shared. All around the room, eyes wide and jaws unhinged at the display in front of them. They were all in shock.
There had been a rumor, one that seemed the most plausible, that the previous owner and CEO is Lady Sam’s lover or was somehow connected to her. The young man, Kirk, was kind yet gullible. It was his naivete that lead him to almost allow the company to be overtaken by another, Nita Creative Event and Exhibition. Lady Nita had convinced him that the company would not last long with a better backer and had Diversity in her grasp. It wasn’t until a shareholder’s meeting that Kirk was fired and in his place, Lady Sam stood.
Another version of the story came from what Noi heard through the grapevine. According to the ears of the other shareholder’s assistants, Lady Sam was the primary shareholder and the original owner of Diversity five years ago. The woman had started it after acquiring the money inherited from her by her deceased parents. She was at the helm until she decided one day to leave out of the blue. In her stead, Kirk was partially in charge while she took care of larger decisions from wherever she was. Now it seemed that there was more to the story than what they knew.
“Let me take you out to lunch, darling,” Mon kisses Sam’s forehead, “You need to get out for a while, even if it's for lunch.”
“I have a lot of work-”
“Sam,” Mon raises her voice with a touch of a challenge to it, “Work is still going to be there after you take a break-”
“Kirk left me a shit storm to take care of,” Sam’s right eye twitches, “I need to-”
“Listen to your wife,” Mon’s smile turns into a cold frown, “Now.”
Sam’s back straightens then, a flash of fear swirling in her eyes, “Yes dear.”
Mon tilts her head up and crosses her arms, “Go get your things.”
Sam nods before dashing in and then out of her office, now carrying her bag and phone. Mon smirks before taking the older woman’s hand and leading them to the staircase. Nop watches the interaction with amusement and love. He lets them leave the floor entirely before turning to Noi.
“She might not come back,” Nop warns with a grin, “Work as normal. If there is anything urgent, place it on her desk for tomorrow. Okay?”
Noi blinks while nodding slowly, “O-okay.”
Nop nods then turn to leave only to stop. His eyes take in the room before he directs himself to the person he was looking for.
“Auntie Mhee,” Nop calls out.
“Yes,” the maid looks at him wearily.
“Can you make sure that Lady Sam has a pitcher of tea on her desk every morning? She like chamomile, ginger, and turmeric the best,” Nop directs, “If you need to go shopping for them, have Nuch give you the company card. Ah, and make sure to stock up on snacks for her too. Make sure they aren't messy to eat at her desk.”
“O-okay,” Aunty Mhee nods, glancing over at the Finance leader, “I’ll take care of it.”
“Thank you,” Nop waves to the room, “Have a good day, everyone.”
And just like that, the young man leaves following his bosses/friends out of the company building. It takes the room ten point seven seconds for it to erupt in shrieks and gossip.
“What the hell was that,” Chin shouts at Yha as she stands up.
“I don’t know,” Yha yells back, “Noi?! What the hell was that?!”
“I don’t know,” the kind HR rep says close to tears.
“Who was that girl,” Auntie Mhee joins in, running to the group as they all merge into one.
“Mon,” Nuch points out, “That’s what Lady Boss called her.”
“And who exactly is that?!”
“I don’t know?!”
“Wife.”
All employees in the room turn to the Noi.
“That girl, Mon,” Noi seems to now truly be crying, “She called herself Lady Boss’ wife.”
“EHH?!”
The room evolves into further chaos. Auntie Mhee drops into the closest chair, fanning herself with an empty folder. Noi falls to her knees, openly crying now. Chin stares out into space with a dopy grin that then turns fearful, he looks to the CEO’s office before he too sits next to Auntie Mhee with a pale face.
Yha looks around desperately until she freezes, “Do you know what this means?”
“Of course,” Noi covers her face, “Mr. Kirk was single all along! I missed my opportunity!”
“What,” Yha angrily scoffs, “No! You idiot! Lady Boss is married to a woman!”
The room freezes.
“Lady Boss is married to a woman,” Noi says slowly.
“And she looks very young,” Yha says as she bites the tip of her thumbnail.
“You don’t think,” Auntie Mhee joins in, a hand on her chest.
“It looks like it,” Noi hums.
Chin narrows his eyes in confusion, “Looks like what.”
The entire woman population turns to Chin. The man looks around in fear, sharing looks with the other men in the room.
“It means,” Yha stalks forward, “That Mon girl is Lady Boss’ trophy wife.”
“EHHH?!”
