The whole of Lotus Pier was filled with a buzz, people whispering and peeking at the group of messengers wearing blue and white robes that had arrived. A Yungmeng disciple was currently leading the group towards where they would be meeting Jiang Fengmian and Madam Yu. Everyone was curious why they had come all the way since no notice had been sent before hand, therefore this must be an urgent meeting of an importance matter. Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng sat just below one of the open windows into the meeting space trying to listen to whatever was being discussed inside. Fox and cat ears standing alert for every sound and tails swaying behind them with curiosity. They peaked in when the doors opened loudly, footsteps entering the room.
“Sect leader, Madam Yu. I bring you representatives from the Gusu Lan Clan.” The Yunmeng disciple lead the group of messengers into the room, bowing, before closing the doors behind him.
“Thank you for travelling all this way. For what do we owe this pleasure?” Jiang Fengmian had a gentle smile on his face while speaking, the Lan representatives all bowed towards him.
“We are sorry to impose upon you without notice of our arrival first. You see, we were sent with an urgent invitation.”
“An invitation?” Madam Yu spoke with a hint of interest in her voice. Something flashed across Jiang Fengmian’s face at her words but it only lasted a second before a smile was back upon his face.
“The Lan’s second young master has entered the beginning of his first breeding period. As this is the period he will be the most fertile, the Lan Sect is seeking a potential mate for him to…to consummate with.” The Lan fumbled over the last part of his sentence, his entire face turning a shade of light red. Wei Wuxian laughed at how innocent the little Lan was then turned to Jiang Cheng next to him.
“Breeding period?”
“It’s their version of our ruts.”
“Oh, so he presented as an alpha.”
“Sounds like it.”
Wei Wuxian leaned back onto his heels, pulling away from the window. He had met the second young master, Lan Wangji, before as a kid. They were all in attendance at the same conference. While the adults were in meetings the children were watched by young disciples, however Wei Wuxian being himself had slipped away unnoticed and made his way into where the children of Gusu Lan were being watched. Well, it was only one child who was sitting alone at the low table writing something. Wei Wuxian had started annoying the young Lan, spending the afternoon with him while talking and colouring on whatever paper was tossed at him. When they were found together an unknown amount of ‘shameless’ and ‘annoying’ had been said and various doodles of Lan Wangji were scattered among the contents of the table. The two were separated but only after Wei Wuxian had made Lan Wangji promise that they would meet again someday. He’s pulled from his thoughts by Jiang Cheng elbowing him in his ribs as he whispers to him to pay attention, his eyes snap back to those inside of the room.
“And if our representative is chosen?” Madam Yu is speaking, a hint of something makes her eyes shine.
“They will carry the Second Master’s children.”
“And if they are not chosen?” Jiang Fengmian leaned forwards in his chair slightly.
“If they’re not…” The young Lan turned his face away, eyes darting around the room.
“Well?”
“We will return them to you…either…”
“Either dead or alive.” Another Lan disciple finishes, Wei Wuxian squints his eyes towards him, something about him gives off the wrong vibes. Everyone in the room goes quiet.
“Dead?” Jiang Fengmian clarifies, no longer smiling.
“Ye-yes. It is not uncommon for a Lan dragon to uh to kill someone who is not worthy.” The first disciple speaks again, clearing his throat while doing so.
“When must we send a representative? If we decide to send one.”
“We have extra transports for sending one back right away. They will be presented to the second master as soon as possible.”
“Hmm, very well. Please give us some time to make our decision. We will send them to your carts when we have decided.”
The Lan representatives bow before being lead out the way they had came. Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng stay looking through the window, shocked at what they have just heard. Would they really send one of their people to either be mated or killed? Once the room is cleared Madam Yu looked towards her husband.
“Who are we sending?”
“No one.”
Madam Yu scoffed, rolling her eyes at the empty room.
“Huh? It’s the LANS! Of course we’re sending someone. Imagine how beneficial a relationship like that could be!”
They sit in silence for a minute. Jiang Fengmian refusing to continue the conversation. Madam Yu crosses her arms, glaring into the air.
“We can’t send Wanyin, he’s an alpha. Yanli is already betrothed…”
The silence stretches on before she stands up quickly, alerting everyone watching.
“Wei Wuxian!”
He feels his heart jump to his throat at the mention of his name.
“We send Wei Wuxian.”
“No.” Jiang Fengmian speaks flatly. A stern look taking over his face. “Not him.”
“Why not? He’s perfect.”
“And what if he is not chosen? Killed?”
“He’s the top disciple, strong enough to fight him off.”
With this Jiang Fengmian stops and thinks, he doesn’t notice the grin that takes over the others face knowing that she managed to work her way in to convince him. After a moment he nods his head.
“Okay. Okay.” A heavy sigh. “We will send him.”
Wei Wuxian thinks his heart has stopped. It truly can’t be true. How could they just up and send him to his potential demise? He looks over to where Jiang Cheng was except he’s no longer there. Suddenly, the doors to the room slam open to reveal a very pissed looking Jiang Cheng. Wei Wuxian is already bolting around the corner towards open doors.
“Mother!” He’s shouting, everyone in the room stops and stares at him. His single cat tail twitching in small movements behind him.
“Wanyin, what is it that you need?”
“You can’t be serious, mother!”
“What are you on about? Oh! Wei Wuxian is here! We were just about to send someone to find you.”
Wei Wuxian stepped out from where he was behind Jiang Cheng in the doorway. His body felt cold, heart beating too fast, the sound of it filled his ears.
“You are being sent to Gusu.”
“Mother!” Jiang Cheng shouted again but it fell on deaf ears. His tail now starting to bristle out, ears standing on full alert.
“You will be presented to their second young master as a potential mate. We expect you will be on your best behaviour while there.” Madam Yu spun the ring on her finger as she spoke, a silent threat towards him.
“You’re not really…” Wei Wuxian stopped speaking due to the look Jiang Fengmian gives him then looks away. He refuses to meet his gaze after.
Madam Yu motioned to Jinzhu and Yinzhu at the side of the room, Wei Wuxian could feel himself start to shake as they approached him, fox ears flattening against his head while his tail bushed out slightly. He was usually never scared, but something about being dragged away to Gusu where he was expected to present himself to an alpha dragon that could potentially kill him was, well, a little frightening. Both of his arms were gripped tightly as he was pulled towards the door.
“Wh-what about my things?! Surely I can get time to say goodbye to everyone!”
“There is no need. The Lan’s said they will provide everything for you.”
He felt himself get pulled off his feet by the two women dragging him. Jiang Cheng shot him a scared look before he was pulled from the room. He could still hear them yelling inside as he was lead towards the gates, Jiang Cheng’s voice carried the anger he was feeling.
The Lans smiled at him as he was introduced as the chosen representative, a servant he was friendly with managed to sneak him a small bag containing a few of his items and a clean purple Yunmeng disciple robe. They took a few minutes to pack everything back into the carriages, along with pulling out a few gifts that were handed to the servants to present to Jiang Fengmian to thank him for sending a representative. Wei Wuxian was about to board the carriage that would bring him to Gusu when he heard his name being yelled, turning around quickly to see Jiang Cheng running down from the main gates.
“Wei Ying! You shit! You were really leaving without saying a farewell?” He was yelling as he ran towards him.
Before he could reply he was being punched in the chest. It didn’t hurt, there was no real force behind it, however he still let out an oomph and acted hurt.
“Awww are you worried about me?” Wei Wuxian laughed like his usual carefree self. Flashing a toothy grin.
“Shut up. Just come back okay. I don’t want to think about you getting dicked down by some Lan dragon.”
“AHAHA! I’ll be back in perfect condition, even better than now! I promise! And I wont be getting ‘dicked down’ by a dragon!”
The two of them were broken from their laughter by someone clearing their throat. One of the Lans was watching them, he gestured with his chin that he needed to board. One of the carriages was already starting to leave and the horses on his carriage were antsy to go as well. Wei Wuxian slapped his hand down on Jiang Cheng’s shoulder, flashing his normal toothy grin again, before hoping into the carriage. He waved out the window and yelling goodbyes as it pulled away from Lotus Pier. From his home.
The carriage rocked as it came to a stop, sounds of gravel crunching underneath. Wei Wuxian’s head bounced against the side, waking him up but he couldn’t remember when he actually did fall asleep. The door swung open to reveal the same white clad Lan from before who beckoned for him to exit. He grabbed his small bag, exiting the carriage with a stretch. It was already dark in the Cloud Recesses, lanterns casting a warm glow along the pathway and buildings. A stillness filled the air, he realized there was no noise. Lotus Pier was always bustling and loud, filled with people laughing, screaming, playing, and whatever they wanted at any time of the day and night. The Cloud Recesses here in Gusu however, were barren. The only Lans he could see were the ones who had escorted him here. After a moment of gawking at the sight before him the little Lan made a small coughing sound akin to clearing his throat but softer.
“If you will follow me. I’ll show you to the guest residence where you will be staying.”
He nodded, following the little Lan along the illuminated path, as he walked behind he tried to smell what the Lan’s second gender was although there was no scent, so either they had sent unpresented disciples or non-smelling betas to collect omegas. The two of them walked past various buildings and taking multiple turns before standing before a long building that had a small pond in front of it. He was guided towards one of the doorways near the end as the Lan opened it for him. It was a small room, a sleeping area set up along the far wall, a small table in the middle of the room with an incense burner and a bound scroll upon it, and a desk along the other wall. Wei Wuxian stepped into the room, taking in what little there was and how bland it all was. He looked back towards the entrance where the little Lan bowed and bid him goodnight before closing the door, leaving Wei Wuxian all to himself in the small bare room. Setting down his things and taking in the room again he felt the need to leave, to explore. He wasn’t one to sit still, especially where there was nothing to entertain him. He could even go try that Emperor's Smile he had heard so much about here in Gusu. However, with one hand on the door about to slide it open he heard Madam Yu’s voice in his head, the threat to be on his best behaviour. A chill ran through his body, the whip marks along his back that were almost healed seemed to burn again with the memory of it. Although the natural curiosity that came with being a fox coursed through his body. He slipped the door open, quickly shifting into his full silvery black fox form.
Wei Wuxian made his way through the bushes before hoping onto the rooftops to observe the surroundings. Luckily no one was out to witness the fox leaping around the rooftops, sniffing at different buildings, determining where everything was. Making his way towards the back of the buildings he noticed one set farther away from the others. A field of beautiful flowers in front of it, the moon shimmering across them all. Wei Wuxian jumped down into the flowers, making his way towards the building when a scent filled his senses, overtaking everything else as it burned into him. His body froze, the fox in him wanted to run, but the omega in him wanted to turn over, show his stomach, submit. It was a powerful alpha’s scent, sandalwood mixed with something else.
A large figure jumped down from the rooftop, landing just a few feet from where Wei Wuxian was in his fox form. The moon illuminated the stranger, a half shifted dragon stood tall in white robes, long horns curled back along his head and a thick white tail laying against the ground. Moonlight reflected upon the soft white scales as the dragon bent down, a flash of golden eyes staring at the fox. Wei Wuxian’s instincts were screaming at him, the scent of the alpha in front of him taking over his senses. The smell of sandalwood pheromones was so strong up close, completely hiding the smell of the field of flowers they were in.
“What are you doing here little fox? Run back to the forest, be free.”
The dragon inhaled deeply, eyes blown wide for a second before he stood, face turning to look towards the moon.
“Tomorrow, I will be locked up. Forced to choose a mate while in the high of my breeding period.” He sighed, casting a glance towards the still frozen fox. “Why are you still here? Run away now.”
The dragon swung his tail towards the fox gently. Wei Wuxian snapped out of his frozen state, jumping back away from the tail. His heart about to beat out of his chest as he turned and ran. Hiding in some bushes a safe distance away from the dragon as he watched them look towards the moon again before entering into the building. Mind racing just as fast as his heart. Was that? Could that really be? Did he just meet Lan Wangji? He looked so much different than how he remembered him, besides the fact that the last time they had seen each other was as literal children.
His fox paws carried him back to his room as fast as they could. Shifting and closing the door behind him as soon as he touched down inside. Heart still beating too fast as he sunk down to the floor. The only sounds in the room was his rapid breathing and his tail swishing along the floor. He froze again. His tail? Wei Wuxian looked to find his tail remained even though he had meant to shift back fully to his human body. His hand made its way to the top of his head to find his fox ears still present as well. Mind going blank. He usually never kept his ears and tail while in human form. The only time they were out was if he was completely comfortable at home, in Lotus Pier with Jiang Cheng, or in heat and his heat wasn’t anywhere near due.
Wei Wuxian tried everything he knew to will his fox ears and tail away to no avail. Finally he decided on sleep, maybe in the morning they will be gone, he’ll wake up and everything would have been a bad dream. He tried his best to settle, twisting and turning but the bed was too hard, the covers too light for the cold weather, so instead he laid awake until sleep finally overtook him.
The next morning, Wei Wuxian groaned at the sound of a gong that rang through the air. His eyes creaking open the slightest bit to see there was no bright sun coming in from outside, it was the ungodly hours in the morning. He rolled over, unsure if he had truly even heard a gong or if he had maybe dreamed it.
The sounds of heavy knocking woke him up again. Opening his eyes to sunlight filtering in through the screen door. Reluctantly he made his way from the bed to the door, sliding it open to reveal another Lan disciple with wide eyes, he couldn’t smell anything coming of off this one, another beta perhaps?
“Ah, pardon for the intrusion. Mister Wei, you did not show for breakfast and it’s almost noon. I was sent to retrieve you, it is almost time.”
Wei Wuxian looked towards the sky, squinting his eyes as he did so, it was still earlier than he would normally wake but he would forgive this beta for not knowing.
“Time for what?”
“You will be presented to Hanguang-Jun today.”
“Ah” It took a moment for his brain to catch up. Hanguang-Jung…second master…alpha dragon…the one he had unknowingly came upon last night. “Give me a moment to ready myself.”
He closed the door before the other could reply. His fox ears and tail still present. He tried again to completely shift back to human form but with the same results as before. He gave up, accepting that he would be in a half shifted form today and started pulling what was packed for him from the bag, nose scrunching up at the purple robes and instead opting for his more familiar black and red ones. His hair was a mess but he merely pulled it up into the signature high pony tail he was often seen wearing. Using the mirror left on the desk to examine how he looked, Wei Wuxian was satisfied for now. He didn’t look awful but surely not good enough for an alpha to choose him. Madam Yu might be pissed when she finds out but for now he was content and determined to return to Lotus Pier untouched. He opened the door again to see the beta still standing there waiting.
“Well, lets go then.”
The beta Lan nodded, leading him away towards one of the larger buildings he had saw the previous night. Inside was a large banquet hall with tables filled with foods and teas. A group of about twelve people sat spread out. Some by themselves, some in small groups. Wei Wuxian scrunched up his nose again at the scent of the room. So many smells, so many omegas in one place. A few of them stared as he entered before flicking their gaze away. All except for one who stood and waved as he entered.
“Wei Wuxian? Ah! It is you!” An omega male dressed in shades of yellow shouted from the side of the room where he sat alone.
“Nei Huaisang?”
The other quickly made his way across the room before grabbing Wei Wuxian’s hand to drag him back to the table where he was deposited into a chair. He wasted no time in filling a plate with the food in front of him, although Wei Wuxian was completely disappointed upon the first bite, finding the food to be as bland as the room he was staying in. He poured some of the liquid from the jar in front of him into his mouth to also be disappointed when finding out it was only plain tea. The meal was completely forgotten as he instead listened to Nie Huaisang rambling next to him.
“So, what’s with the ears and tail? I never see you with them outside of Lotus Pier.”
“Can’t get them to go away.” He shrugged his shoulders.
“What?!”
“Yeah, no big deal.”
“Maybe you should go to the medical building.”
“So why did you get sent here?” Wei Wuxian was quick to change the subject. He hated being told to seek medical attention, he was strong and could overcome anything.
“Oh, my brother thought it was a good idea. He’s close to Lan Xichen.”
Wei Wuxian raised his eyebrows, looking towards the other fully.
“I thought Jiang Cheng and you were -”
The main doors to the room slide open. All conversation stopped as a group of Lan elders entered. One stepped forward, introducing themselves as Lan Qiren, before explaining how it would work for the day. One by one the omegas would be lead from the room to where Lan Wangji was. There they would be allowed a full incense time alone with him before being checked on to determine if they were a successful mate. They were all wished good luck before the first omega, a delicate female was chosen and lead away from the room. Leaving the rest in a stunned silence. Wei Wuxian squirmed on his chair. So this was it, it was really happening. The tip of his tail twitched in the air with his nerves. Nie Huaisang leaned over towards him again.
“So, did you read that scroll?”
“Scroll?”
Nie Huaisang looked towards him with wide eyes. A fan appeared in his hand that he used to block the lower half of his face.
“You didn’t? The one they left in our rooms?”
“Oh, no. I didn’t bother.”
The doors slide open again. The elder motioning for the next omega. A medium built male wearing Jin clothing followed them out. The air turned sour from his nerves as he left.
“What? That was barely half an incense time!” Nie Huaisang exclaimed next to him, a low murmur filled the room as the rest of the omegas started to also show their nervousness.
“Maybe she was rejected right away.” Wei Wuxian was being hopeful, he had heard stories just like everyone else about how destructive a dragon could be, how the last place you wanted to be was a dragon’s bad side. As least as a fox he had a better chance of talking his way out of things and sneaking off.
“Or maybe she was killed right away.” Another omega in the room spoke up from a few seats down from him. Some kind of bushy white tail swished back and forth behind them as he continued to nibble on the plain rice. The mood in the room quickly worsened.
The pattern continued the same until a quarter of the omegas had already left the room. They had been told it would be take a full incense time but after merely half an incense the next omega was being summoned out. The elder returned again, motioning towards Nie Huaisang who squeaked loudly, eyes blown wide while frozen in his seat. The Lan elder walked towards him.
“Come on boy. It is your turn.” The elder reached to pull him up by his arm but Nie Huaisang shifted away from him.
“Ac-actually!”
“What?”
“My friend here said he would looovvee to go next!” Nie Huaisang motioned towards Wei Wuxian.
“Fine then. Doesn’t matter to me.” The elder motioned towards Wei Wuxian to follow as he walked back towards the doorway. He shot daggers towards Nie Huaisang as he stood and followed the elder out.
He was lead outside along a winding path that was braced by tall plants, blocking his view of where he was being lead to. As he was guided around a corner a large house came into view, the same one that he had visited the previous night. Two elders stood outside of the building, nodding their heads towards them as they approached. They bowed before sliding the door open, allowing Wei Wuxian and his guide to enter. Stepping through the doorway his omega sense were immediately on high alert. The smell of alpha permeated the air, a hint of distress tinging it. He stood in a small entryway along with three more elders, a table sat along the wall with various objects strewed upon it. The guide who lead him here quickly excused himself, bowing and leaving the room, letting the door close behind him.
“Please disrobe.” One of the elders spoke.
“What?” Wei Wuxian was in disbelief, was it happening already? A single white robe was shoved against his chest, he grabbed it while examining the thin material it was made of.
“Please change into that. It will save your current clothing from any damage.” The elder that had handed him the robe spoke as another started grabbing items from the table.
Wei Wuxian quickly changed, discarding his robes for the light white one. He left his pants on until one of the elders stared at them, raising an eyebrow and suggesting he remove them as well. The single robe left him feeling naked, not that he took care to cover himself normally, but this situation was different. Without wasting any time, the three elders began to inspect his body. One feeling his muscles, one listening to his heart and chest, one holding his wrist to examine his meridians, while another began questioning him with statements.
“Wei WuXian of the Yungmeng Jiang sect.”
“Yes.” Wei Wuxian tired to ignore the hands roaming his body. One hand brushed through the fur of his still out tail causing a shiver to run through his body.
“Fox shifter. Presented as an omega at the age of 17.”
“Yes.”
“He is healthy.” One of the elders spoke as the hands stopped and they stepped away from him.
“Are you in heat? Or close to being in heat?”
“Wha - No.” He stammered out, a little taken aback by the sudden question.
“Would you like to be?”
Before he could answer a cup was shoved against his mouth, a hand clasped his jaw at the bitter liquid poured in then closed it, causing him to swallow. He gasped, hand flying to his mouth as the elder next to him retreated with a now cup. A warmth flooded his body immediately. The elder on the other side of him gave a low laugh.
“Fast acting heat stimulant, created right here in Gusu. Being in heat will…help you.”
The first elder grabbed Wei Wuxian by the shoulders, guiding him towards the locked door on the other side of the entryway. Heat and fear now spreading throughout his body. He had rarely felt fear, true fear, that made his ears stand straight up and tail become bushy. The lock clicked open as the door opened revealing a dark room, the last thing he heard was a whispered good luck as he was shoved into the darkness and the door clicked shut behind him.
Wei Wuxian stood still, back against the locked door. His eyes adjusting to the dark room as his lungs burned from the thick aroma of alpha. Every one of his omega instincts yelling at him to submit, to roll over and show his stomach to the strong alpha who was smelling of a fresh rut. His fox instincts though were yelling at him to run, to make it as far away from the room as he could manage before being devoured. There was a small source of light from a tiny window, illuminating just enough that he could make out the frame of a person across the room from him. The person was currently half human and half dragon with long horns flowing back against his head and a thick white tail. He swallowed hard, it really was the same dragon from last night. The figure looked towards him, golden eyes shining despite the small amount of light. A chill ran throughout Wei Wuxian’s body when their eyes met.
“It’s you.” The figure took a step towards him, inhaling deeply as it moved. “From last night. The fox.”
Wei Wuxian felt his heart start to beat faster, ears twitching, heat smothering him. His entire body frozen but burning from the inside out.
“You smell the same.” Another step towards him. “Sweet. Flowers…lotus?”
“Yeah, it’s me. The fox, ahaha.” He tries to force a smile and laugh. Although he can’t help the smell of distress that leaks into his scent that’s starting to become even sweeter.
A few more quick steps and the dragon is towering in front of him. Almost a full head taller than him!
“Do not be distressed. I will not hurt you.”
The dragon leaned towards him, placing an arm against the wall next to him, almost as if caging in Wei Wuxian. His cock twitches as it becomes interested in the situation as his heat starts to increase it’s hold on him, slick starting to leak from him and without any pants it’s free to start dripping down his legs. This kind of a situation shouldn’t be turning him on but his heat is quickly over taking him. The dragon leans away for a split second, golden eyes blown wide. Wei Wuxian takes the small opening to slip underneath of his arms. Freeing himself for a minute before the dragon’s large tail wraps itself around his ankle, pulling him down to the ground. Quickly he’s pressed against his back on the floor with the half transformed second dragon on top of him, strong hands holding his wrists down.
“Are you in heat?” The dragon questions from on top of him.
“I wasn’t…” His sentence drifts off. The dragon says nothing, simply raises one of his eyebrows in question. “I wasn’t until those elders forced me to drink a…a heat stimulant.”
“Did they hurt you?” The dragon looks over his body.
“Aha, I’m stronger than anything they could do to me!”
“I will discipline them after.”
“What? No, its ok, really.”
“No one hurts my mate.” The dragon alpha let out a low growl with his words. Wei Wuxian shivered underneath of him.
“Wait! What? Mate?”
“Mn.”
Suddenly the dragon pulls apart his robe, revealing Wei Wuxian’s trained and muscled yet delicate omega body. He squirmed as much as he could against the others hold, golden eyes burning into his body as he looks over the body laid out before him.
“Wait wait! At least tell me your name first!”
”No need, I’m sure you were told my name already.”
“I was but it’s nice to hear it straight from your mouth.”
“We’ve met before.”
“Yeah, when we were kids! You expect me remember all that?”
“Mn. You are Wei Wuxian, Wei Ying.”
Wei Wuxian felt his mouth open, he didn’t think he would remember him from so long ago. His mind was sluggish from his heat but he was snapped out of his daze as the dragon leaned down, licking a stripe along his neck, causing shivers, before whispering into his ear.
“Lan Wangji, call me Lan Zhan.”
“Lan…Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian gasped as the other bit his neck gently, not enough to break skin but enough to tease all of his senses.
Ears twitching frantically on top of his head, Lan Wangji’s eyes snapped to them, watching the way they moved. One of his large hands reaching up to gently trace along one before grasping it, causing a gasp to fall from Wei Wuxian’s mouth. He raised one of his eyebrows while continuing to rub the ear, causing more gasps and quiet moans. He drew back his hand only for it to be replaced by his mouth. Lan Wangji sucked lightly on the ear before biting down gently onto it, causing the loudest gasp that turned into a moan. The smell of the omega’s heat turned stronger as the smell of his slick also filled the air.
“They’re…ah…they’re really sensitive.” Wei Wuxian was gasping, face red, as even more slick was dripping out of him, tail flicking gently beside him. Lan Wangji leaned back to look over his body once again.
