Work Text:

Slytherin Common Room

Hogwarts

The water was red again.

Tom gazed through the window to look at the water in the black lake, the water was usually a dark murky green but for the past three weeks each time Tom was alone in the Common room, the water would take on the shade of a red so dark that it looked like blood.

It was like someone was playing a prank that only he could see. The first time it happened it was actually in the company of his Knights, they were gathered  in front of the fireplace waiting until everybody retired to their bed so that they could have a meeting.

He was looking at the window and for a brief moment he saw the face of someone but in a blink of an eye the face disappeared, what followed a was even more bizarre the water had turned red but no one else seemed to have taken notice of the strange color and from that night whenever Tom was alone the water would turn into a terrifying color of red.

Tonight though Tom gazed through the window at the water that was as red as his blood, a figure emerged from the darkness with a smile so haunting as it signaled for Tom to come closer towards the window.

As Tom moved closer to the window the figure suddenly disappeared. Tom huffed a breath in annoyance, turning to glance back at the common room. Tom noticed a small box in the chair that he normally sat in whenever he was in the common room.

Tom approached the chair with wary curiosity, as he bent to pick the box up off the chair he had the sudden thought of how morbid this entire situation seemed to be.

Tom opened the box, inside sat a stone, it was red, just like the color that the water would take on whenever he looked through the window; with the stone was a note that sat at the bottom of the box.

Immortality will drown you.’

 One Week Later

A week has passed but much to Tom’s increasing annoyance the figure from the lake did not appear again, at this point Tom was convinced that all of this was just another senseless prank that he got caught up in.

That was until he finally saw the figure from the lake up close, that was also the day that Tom finally understood the meaning behind the message that he got along with the red stone.

Black Lake

Hogwarts

The lake was a mystery, the history behind it unknown by all who lived in the castle.

What secrets lie deep within, what unknown creature lived in those dark murky, Tom wants to know all about this lake, he wants to know all its secrets but at last his research was all in vain as he had come to realize that the lake and its unknown creature were all covered in deep darkness.

Tom had started to visit the lake whenever he had time, it was like a calling really; the urge to be there when he had time to spare, Tom thought it was a bit similar to the call of a siren, one morning though Tom finally saw who was drawing him to the lake.

The morning started like any other morning did, with him being the first one to wake and him being the first one to enter the common room, that morning Tom had decided to go for a walk and somehow his feet led him to the black lake.

As Tom walked the shore of the lake, a gleaming light caught his attention. Tom turned to face the direction in which the light was coming from, suddenly a loud splash caused him to turn towards the lake.

Nearing the shore was a figure that seemed to be a male, he had no clothes on and seemed to be enjoying himself in the freezing water of the lake, suddenly the boy in the lake turned to face Tom.

Tom could feel his breath hitch as he gazed in the eyes of the beautiful creature in the water, the boy was gorgeous, high cheekbone, honey colored skin, but the thing that stood out the most were his emerald colored eyes, which seemed to sparkle as he caught sight of Tom.

The boy swam closer towards Tom but he did not leave the water. The voice that spoke to Tom was soft and smooth as if it was dipped in honey.

“Hello, Tom”

The boy’s voice was so mesmerizing that Tom did not even think about how this boy who did not seem to go to Hogwarts knew his name.

“Tom, come join me for a swim, the waters very refreshing at this time of morning”.

Tom stepped towards the water as if in a trance, he had no control over his body and he walked further into the water until he was a good distance from shore.

“Come Tom, doesn't the water feel good”.

“Yes, it does feel quite nice” Tom turned his head to have a good look at the boy before him.

Tom opened his mouth to ask the boy something but the water around them caught his attention, the water was red again but this time Tom had a chance to confirm one of his recent thoughts, the water did indeed feel like blood.

Tom turned his attention back to the boy and had to choke back a scream before it could leave his mouth, the boy's once beautiful face was now so damaged that it looked like someone had bashed it in with a brick.

“Tom, won't you help me? Tom”.

“Tom, the souls are calling for you”.

A voice echoed in Tom's head and it sounded just like the voice of the boy when he had spoken to him before. Tom's breath quickened as he tried to leave the bloody water.

“Tom! Swim with me, Tom”

“Please don’t leave me here!”

“Tom, How could you kill me!”

“Tom, Help me!”

The voice was getting more loud and distorted as it screamed after him as he tried to get out of the water, suddenly Tom felt a hand grab his legs causing him to fall into the water, the hand started to drag him back further into the water and the voice got louder.

“Tom, Don't leave! Stay with me! drown with me!”

“Tom, stay with me!”

“Tom, help me!”

The grip on his ankle tightened as he was pulled underwater, it was getting hard to breath as Tom struggled as the hold of his capturer, he was starting to lose consciousness he heard the voice shout for a final time.

“You killed me TOM!”

With a horrified scream Tom shot up from his bed, he looked around for signs of the boy but found that he was back in his bed in the slytherin dorm.

Tom took a shuddered breath as he tried to get his bearings back together. Tom drawed the curtain from around his bed and saw that no one was awake yet and closed back the curtain.

A red glow caught his eyes. It was the stone that he found in the common room beside it was a piece of parchment. Tom took it off the nightstand and read it. It was only a few words but it made Tom think that what he had just experienced was indeed not a dream.
