"the stars are said to be quite beautiful tonight." a rather soft voice spoke out, with eyes focusing on the skies above, basking in the short silence that followed that statement.
a girl, dressed in all black, was standing right where the balcony was of the mansion she was currently located at, taking in the fresh air that was accompanying her and one more individual who was right beside her, seemingly indifferent to what was happening.
"heee. i see."
his jet-black eyes were not laid upon the blonde elf next to him, nor the night sky, but a single golden coin that he had picked up earlier from the ground. today seemed to be his lucky day. perhaps that boy with his messy black hair was finally getting on the path to become rich. oh how nice it would be rob some more bandits under the moonlight.
"hm? not quite interested by today's night sky, lord shadow?"
the girl spoke out, tilting her head ever so slightly as she was watching right at her supposed ruler, perhaps even trying to meet his gaze.
"mmm. i think stars can be an interesting subject and i am not the type to not acknowledge when something is beautiful."
the male replied, the indifference in his voice almost disappearing completely as his eyes met hers, almost mimicking the small tilt the girl had going in that very moment.
"if you are that fascinated by it, then shall we go take a look. i know just the thing that could enhance the experience, alpha."
a rather sly smile appeared on his lip, finally putting away the shiny coin to take a step forward, not letting his movement disturb the eyecontact that they were sharing with one another, causing alpha to audibly gulp.
is this what she thinks this is? did the man, who she admires to the abyss and back, finally acquire some sense of adoration for her as well? what else could explain the burning gaze that was placed upon her?
and why was he not stopping in his tracks? if he comes any closer, he might just get a glimpse into a side of her that she wasn't ready to show him yet. nor was her heart helping her out either. not like this—!
"cake."
"... cake?"
"yep, cake! your treat!"
"..."
just what was he playing at? why stare at her like that and walk towards her when all he wanted, was something as trivial as cake.
perhaps he was more passionate about cake than all of the members of Shadow Garden combined.
alpha quickly shook her head, knowing fully well that the answer would probably terrify her.
letting a sigh escape her lips, she watched the man in front of her, observing his eyes, which were full of excitement and impatience.
it almost looked like as if his pupils were shaped like a star, something you really only see in fictional stories.
even if he was after something quite trivial, alpha couldn't help but to think he was adorable, just a little bit. the fact that he was just a little bit shorter than her only elevated that supposed cuteness.
"i don't know whether eating cake under the stars is romantic or just plain gluttonous..."
"it's plenty romantic, mind you. watching the stars while eating something sweet sounds like the perfect combination. and here i thought you of all people would get it."
oh this guy. she hasn't even said she would not come with him, yet that jab at the end still got her properly.
her lord really was on another level, managing to catch her off guard all the time.
"very well. let's go find a nice spot to sit and enjoy some delicious cake on, lord shad— no, cid."
a smile made its way onto her lips as she watched him nod enthusiastically, before matching his pace, walking with him side by side.
one day, she wants to be someone worthy of him, someone he can truly rely on.
maybe eventually, she can also catch him off guard as well.
