Chapter 1: And, So it Begins.

Chapter Text

Cha Hyun Su used to be a lot of things he used to be popular, he used to be outgoing, he used to be top of his class. Now all Hyun su was, and would ever be, was a punching bag; No matter where he is or what he’s doing, Do hun will find him and add more bruises to the purplegreenyellow that owns his body. He would never escape the pain that was Do hun, he would always follow him.

That’s why today would be the day; the day Hyun su ended it all. And as shitty as his family is he wasn’t going to do it the house, No; Instead he found an isolated bridge with a pretty view. It was far away enough from the city and you could actually see some of the stars in the night sky.

Sitting on the edge of the bridge, even while knowing his life was going to end, he couldn’t think of a single thing to make him reconsider his decision. "This really is a gorgeous view, isn’t it?" Hyun su whipped his head to the side, startled by the man that had sat down next to him without Hyun su noticing.

"Although the view on Jeju Island is incomparable in my opinion."

Hyun su was going to say something, anything but all he could do was stare, mouth agape at this man who stuck out on this quiet night. From his shoes to the three piece suit, his tie & his coiffed hair; everything about his just screamed money. "I’m Won Jae ho, what’s your name?"

Hyun su wasn’t stupid, he has never met this man before, he wouldn’t give him his name. Not answering him he just glared out at Jae ho from under his eyelashes, sullen and silent. Jae ho huffed in amusement, "Even if you don’t want to tell me, you still have your school badge on Cha Hyun su." Hyun sus’ face flushed so red, he’s sure he looked drunk.

He cut his eyes to the side suspicious & wary, but curious nonetheless. "What’s it to you, what my name is?" Jae ho laughed loud & hard, "Man, I’m older than you, can I at least get a hyung in there?" Hyun sus’ eyes trailed down and back up "What do you want.... Ahjussi?" Jae ho actually started coughing in shock, In all his years of life he had never been called Ahjussi... Ever.

After he had finished his coughing and caught his breath, he looked back over at Hyun su. He had been driving home after working late for the thousandth time when he saw the teen sitting on the bridge. He really meant to mind his business, but Hyun su just seemed so alone and isolated.

"You looked lonely." He didn’t mean to tell the truth, it just came out. "What would you know about loneliness?" Hyun su scoffed in derision, "You look like you were born with a good life." Jae ho took a moment to look Hyun su over, to think over his words. "I know better than you think, I wasn’t born with this 'good life'. I worked day in and out for it, and because of it the people around me showed their true faces."

He looked down at the water flowing beneath them, uncaring of their troubles. "I realized I couldn't trust any of them." Hyun su hadn't meant to bring up bad memories, he was just caught up in all the bad things in his life. He carefully scooted a little closer and hesitantly reached out to cup Jae hos’ hand in his. There was nothing he could do about his life, but maybe he could help Jae ho, just this tiny bit.

Eventually his voice carried on the wind, so softly, as if he hadn’t spoken at all "I’m sorry." Jae hos’ voice was gruff, thick like he was trying not to cry, "Look at us, two lonely strangers consoling each other." but even as he was saying that, his fingers intertwined with hyun sus’.

"Why are you telling me these things if we’re just strangers, ahjussi?"

Jae ho almost choked again, but refrained from doing so. "I heard somewhere that it’s easier to talk to a stranger than someone you know." His thumb swiped lazily over the back of hyun sus hand. "And you know what? I think that little tidbit might be right." And even though Hyun su initiated the hand hold, the faded blush came back full force with the little bit of intimacy.

Jae ho pretended not to notice, "So why are you lonely then?" Jae ho wasn’t looking at him but Hyun su could tell he was more interested than he looked. "oh you know shitty family, shitty life, bullies and other nonsense." Hyun su sighed, "nothing really inportant, because im not important."

Hyun su looked away trying to tug his hand out of the handhold; Jae ho tightened his grip so he couldn't. "Thats not true," Jae ho sighed through his nose, he was noticeably angry at Hyun sus’ self assessment. "You are important, and I’d like to prove it to you, if you’d let me."

Hyun sus’ shock permeated the air, he had never been told he was important with such vehemence and sincerity; It made him feel special in a way that he hadn’t felt before. "Can you meet me at XX mall tomorrow at 4?" Hyun su was dazed enough that he didn’t really hesitate before responding "Sure, I guess so."

Jae ho grinned like the chesire cat, "I’ll meet you by the fountain, okay? Here’s my number, just in case." He handed Hyun su a business card that only had Jae hos’ name and business number with the addition of his personal number added on in pen.

"If you’re a serial killer, I’ll come back and haunt you." Jae ho paused as he was getting back into his car. "I don’t doubt it." shaking his head he asked Hyun su "So, will I see you tomorrow?" Hyun su smiled in spite of himself, "yeah, I’ll see you tomorrow."

Hyun su watched Jae ho speed off and decided he could forget why he came to the bridge for a day longer.

Chapter Text

Jae Ho wasn't the type to give his number out to strangers, so he's still trying to figure out what came over him when he gave Hyun Su his number. He's going to chalk it up to the fact that Hyun Su reminded him of himself a few years ago.

Contrary to what Hyun Su thought, he was only 19 years old. Jae was one of those child geniuses you hear about that skips five grades at a time and graduates college at fifteen. Being that accomplished that young caused tension in his personal and social lives. Jae couldn't remember the last time he had real friends, people who weren't just there for his fame and money.

This would explain why he was fifteen minutes early to the little 'date' he set up with Hyun Su, he would admit that Hyun Su intrigued him, but he also seemed lonely like Jae Ho was. He wasn't stupid; He knew exactly why a high school student was on a lonely bridge like that in the middle of the night. He wanted to know why he was there and who caused him to be there in the first place.

Aside from the main problem, he wanted to make a good first impression, so he spent half an hour choosing the right outfit (His stylist Komi will tell you it was an hour cause her boss is a liar.) He genuinely wanted Hyun Su to have a good time and have a good time with him.

"Jae ho?" He did a quick 180 to see a very comfortable-looking Hyun Su behind him, with his slightly oversized sweater giving him sweater paws. Jae was suddenly very appreciative that he decided to wear a button-up and slacks; Otherwise, he'd be horrendously overdressed. As it was, he was only slightly overdressed at this point in time.

As quickly as the embarrassment came, it left, leaving only relief that Hyun Su came and happiness that, well... Hyun Su came.

"Hyun Su! How've you been? Since last night I mean?" Jae saw Hyun Su visibly hesitate before answering him, "I've been... fine, I guess." he glanced at the ground, then back up at Jae Ho.

"What's it to you, ahjussi?" This time, Jae Ho really couldn't stop himself. He barked out a laugh of indignance.

"I will have you know I'm only 19; That makes me only two or three years older than you!" Jae Ho huffily but playfully folded his arms across his chest and gave Hyun Su his best side-eye. Hyun Su's face dropped in shock before retorting in vehement rebuttal.

"No way you're nineteen, absolutely no way!" Hyun Su side-eyed Jae Ho back, "Prove it! Otherwise, ill keep calling you ahjussi." So, just like any other ordinary adult, Jae Ho pulled out his ID.

"See? 06-24-XXXX." Jae Ho's mouth curled into a self-satisfied smirk. "I'm only nineteen, and I have a net worth of 2 billion won." he reached over to quickly flick Su in the forehead.

"Now can I get a hyung somewhere in there?" He could see that Su was already having fun even though the date had only just started. Muffling his laughter, Hyun Su managed to barely respond to him.

"Okay, hyung, what's on the agenda today?" He was still muffling his laughter. Still, to Jae Ho, seeing him smile was worth dragging him out here. "Well, my dear Hyun Su, this is where I spoil your pretty little head off." Hyun Su stopped moving from where he'd been walking alongside Jae Ho.

The only reason Hyun Su kept moving was that Jae Ho had latched onto his arm and was dragging him along.

"What do you mean spoil?" Jae paused for a moment to look at Su and saw the confusion decorating his face. "I mean to spoil, buy gifts for, drown in money..." Jae Ho stops talking with confusion now on his face

"There aren't many phrases for gift giving, but! that is what I'm doing." when he looked at Hyun Su, he could feel something building in his chest. "Hyun Su all I know is that I want to buy you every little thing you've ever wanted and more." In a repeat of their previous encounter, he held his hand so he could stroke the back of it with his thumb.

"As long as you let me that is. Can I have your permission to indulge you?" Jae Ho was giving Hyun Su an out, he wanted him to know that he had the right and the option to refuse if he wanted. Hyun Su's eyes flitted down to their linked hands before he smiled a bit wider.

"You have my permission," Su's eyes shone with the same intrigue that had overcome Jae. "Indulge away Mr. 2 billion won net-worth." with that sentence; they were off.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Several hours later, and as laden with bags as they were, there were even more in Jae's car. Not only did Hyun Su have more clothes than he thought he needed, but he'd also gotten an adorable new haircut. He and Jae Ho were taking a break at a boba shop in the food court, where Jae was enjoying his plain coffee like an old man.
He couldn't help but notice that after their little shopping spree, in addition to the taro boba Hyun Su was enjoying, he looked happier, not that he was smiling but that his eyes were shining. He seemed to glow with all the attention he was being showered in. Hyun Su wasn't the only one either; Jae Ho had accomplished what he set out to do. Hyun Su could forget all his worries and troubles long enough to enjoy himself.
Jae Ho took a moment to soak in the joy radiating from Hyun Su before speaking, "Su, can I ask you something?" Hyun Su peered up from where he was reading something on his phone, making his best impression of a baby deer. "Of course; What is it?" Jae took a moment to finish his coffee, then hesitantly started talking.
"Would you... like to go on a date with me? Officially this time, I mean."
"A Date?" Hyun Su's head tilted to the side, which made him look like a puppy, "Yeah, an outing where two people engage in a mutually enjoyable activity together? That kinda thing." Hyun Su had wholly abandoned his boba at this point, his attention solely taken by Jae Ho.
"Why on this planet would you want to date me?" Jae's brow furrowed at his lack of self-confidence. Alas, it was a problem for another time. "Because I enjoy your surprisingly dry, sarcastic humor." He folded his hands together to rest his head on.
"You're witty and cute. However, your taste in music could use a little work." Hyun Su looked scandalized at the insult to his music taste. "Hey!" he reached over to smack Jae Ho, followed swiftly by an ow.
Jae rubbed his head more so to tease Su before continuing his little rant, "But most of all, and call me cliche if you must, I simply enjoy being with you even when we're not talking. It's comfortable, and there's no need to fill the silence." He could see Hyun Su eyes start glossing over with the effort he was using to hold in his laughter. However, a giggle managed to slip past.
"You're right; That was cliche and cheesy, and whatever other word I can't think of right now, but you know what?" Su leaned forward just slightly, "I like cute, cheesy 19 yr olds who I know are just trying to keep me alive despite everything." Jae's smile dimmed a little at the reminder before he seemed to shake the feeling off.
"Did I mention that you're wicked smart, too?" Hyun Su lost the battle with his laughter, which was sounded off by a loud cackle. "You did mention that a few times, yes." Jae Ho knew that Hyun Su was aware of what he was doing but wanted him to bring it up on his terms.
"You know this will be beyond difficult, right? I won't be like this like 98 percent of the time." Hyun Su swished his drink around, listening to the clinking ice, "I'm not going to get better magically; That's impossible. I don't want you to get your hopes up."
Jae Ho's eyes softened at the tidbit of vulnerability Hyun Su was showing him "I know that I'm willing to try as long as you're willing to, and if you decide it's not working or don't want to try anymore it all stops." Jae could feel all his gooey emotions well up in his throat. Still, he forced himself to speak evenly.
"It's your call, always and only yours, so just let me know whenever." Hyun Su was listening and absorbing everything that Jae Ho was telling him, staring at his empty boba cup. "I don't quite know what to say," He looked up at Jae Ho, uncertainty evident on his face.
"Will you give me till the end of this date?" Let it be said that Jae Ho's weakness was a human named Hyun Su. "Of course Su, anything you need."
"Then let's get to the end of this date before making life-altering decisions."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hyun Su had finally called it quits, and Jae had just dropped him off at home. He had just gotten back into the car to make his way home with the quite sizable haul he'd gotten for Su, (Hyun Su had decided to keep only a little bit of his new clothes, not wanting his family to ask questions.)

He hadn't forgotten about their little end-of-date conversation, but like earlier, he wanted Su to bring it up on his own. Jae's last intention was to pressure Hyun Su into a decision he might regret; He would wait as long as needed to hear his decision.

Just as he was making to start the car and make his way home, he got a call from the same person occupying his mind. "Hey pretty, what can I do for you?"

"Well, this charming guy asked me out on a date; I'm just giving him an answer."

"And what would that answer be pretty?"

"That I wouldn't mind dating a genius billionaire playboy philanthropist." Jae Ho could feel a case of the giggles creep up on him, "Isn't that an Ironman quote?" He barely got the sentence out through his laughter. "It is, my exceptionally cheesy date, but aside from that when would you like to go out again?"

"Whenever you want, my hours are flexible when it comes to you." And even though Jae Ho couldn't see Hyun Su, he knew he was smiling. "Sounds like a plan to me."

Chapter 3: As I sleep

Summary:

Sleepy Hyun babies is Sleepy

~~~~~~~~
As per the usual, please keep an eye out for grammatical errors
Chapter Text
Hyun Su could admit when things were going his way. He could also realize when everything started taking a swan dive. It was just one of those days he woke up and didn't have the energy or drive to do much of anything.
His head was aching; he couldn't move his body, and not like he wanted to. Hyun  Su's bed was comfortable and warm, maybe he could just lay there forever and no one would bother him. he knew his family wouldn't bother him. They didn't bother him even when he didn't get up for school.
He knew the only one who cared enough to bother him was Jae Ho, and he didn't want him bothering him today, either. He honestly meant to grab his phone to let him know, but.... his bed was more inviting than the biting cold air of his room.
So he lay there, not really sleeping but not awake either, his phone pinging on his nightstand, not that he cared enough to grab it. Listening to his notifications as background noise, he drifted back to sleep, hoping somewhere in the back of his mind that maybe, just maybe, he wouldn't wake back up.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When he awoke, the sky had turned dark, and he still didn't have the energy to care, and he figured that Jae had finally stopped trying to contact him. Almost as if the universe was mocking him, his phone once again pinged in the background, making him aware that Jae Ho was still trying to get in touch.

Even though he didn't want to, he reached over, trembling, to grab his phone and see how often Jae had spammed him. To his surprise, there were only five messages, four from this morning and one from just now.

Good Morning,
sent  7:12 am

Are you awake yet?
sent  7:36 am

Are you not feeling good today?
sent  8:03 am

I'll text you later then. Sleep well,
sent  8:27 am

Good Evening, Sleepyhead
sent  4:43 pm

Hyun Su was expecting more messages than that, but he was grateful there weren't more; otherwise, he might've had a panic attack if there had been more. He figured he should call Jae now to let him know he was fine.

He hit the call button, and the phone only rang once before it got picked up. "Hey, Pretty, you sleep well?" Su scrunched his nose in thought before answering, "No, not really, I'm still exhausted." Jae made a little 'hmm' sound in thought,

"Well, do you need anything? Anything at all, I'll try to get it for you." even though hs was so dreadfully tired, he felt his heart squeeze in gratitude. "I don't need anything; I just want to keep sleeping."

He honestly felt bad for what he was about to say, but he needed to for his peace of mind. "would you mind not calling or texting for the next few days? I just want to be left alone," as soon as he said it, he prepared himself for the inevitable explosion of Jae's emotion, just like his old friends would do, yelling and blaming him for not wanting to get up.

"Yeah, of course, Pretty, you need your alone time, no worries." hs could feel rather than see the ooey, gooey lovesick puppy eyes Jae was making over the phone. "But if you need anything, just let me know, Hyun-ah."

Hyun Su could feel himself relaxing now that he knew he wouldn't be bothered and could be alone in his silence. "I will, and I'll call you soon." Hyun was interrupted by his yawn, and he figured now was a good time as any to hang up.

"talk to you later. I'm gonna go back to sleep."

"Okay, talk to you later, Pretty."

Chapter 4: Less Worry, More Picnics

Summary:

Finally! it's time for Jae ho's and Hyun su's First Date, now if only Jae knew how to plan a picnic.

Notes:

SO, It has been a while, and I do apologize

However, I hope this extra long chapter makes up for the long wait, I actually had to stop myself from writing more in order to stay on track with the story.

Either way, Enjoy!! 💙💙💙💙💙

Chapter Text

Jae ho had waited for Hyun su to get back in touch with him, and just as he said, it was about 4 days later when he heard from him again. He wanted to take him on their first official date; Wow, it felt good to say that, Official.

He knew that he wanted to do something smaller than going to the mall, he figured Hyun was probably feeling all sorts of drained and tired. He figured the best idea of the many he came up with (including the zoo, aquarium, the movies, etc.) was a simple picnic.

It was the most cliche of first dates but he knew it would be something Su could appreciate after being inside for the last few days, the quiet of nature and a little bit of sunshine. The only problem with his fool-proof plan was that he had no idea how to organize a picnic; what to bring, what to wear, nothing.

So he did what he always does, he texts Komi.

Komi i really need your help please,

sent 8:27

Komi, I’m so serious, i need your help

sent 8:31

And why do you need my help today?

sent 9:21

I want to plan a picnic for Hyun but I don't know what to bring or where to go, please help me

sent 9:27

I'm only helping you because you need to hangout with someone other than me

sent 9:43

Thank you Komi

sent 9:53

Also I need a raise, I'm basically just your assistant at this point

sent 10:02

Komi you can get a raise but I'm not calling you my assistant

sent 10:05

Works for me

sent 10:07

“So, what do you know?”

Komi and Jae were now sitting in his home office, a notepad and pen ready to jot down ideas.

“I don't know anything, that's why I texted you Komi.”

“Okay, so we start from the bottom up then.” Komi twirled around to turn his office projector on and pulled up a ‘how to plan a picnic’ PowerPoint “Okay, so the first thing when planning a picnic is deciding a park or place to have the picnic at, do you have any places in mind?” Jae was still stuck on the PowerPoint, “When did you have time to make a PowerPoint?”

“Focus, do you have anywhere in mind?” Jae takes a moment to think, about all the places he's been and places he went as a kid. “To be honest, I never really went on a picnic, so I can't really think of anything.”

Komi just looked on in exasperation “Really? Like really really? You can't think of anywhere you'd want to take him?” Jae could do nothing but shrug helplessly.

“Okay, what about Namsan Mountain Park? It's beautiful and not usually very busy in the evenings, so it'd be perfect for you two.” Jae visibly sagged in relief,

“Komi thank you, you're a life saver,’ Jae reached out for her dramatically, quivering hand and all. “I'd be lost with out you.”

Komi really had no other response except for gently laying her head down on the desk and wondering how she got here in the first place.

Now with the setting and food taken care of it was time to move on to the outfit (mandu and kimbap, Komi told him to just keep it simple.) The entire reason he hired Komi in the first place, cause if it was up to him, Jae would wear tees and sweats everyday.

It was Komi who curated his fashionable wardrobe and made sure he looked like the CEO he was when he stepped out of his house. Said miracle worker was intently gazing at all his closet had to offer, blue hair flipped over one shoulder and mouth pursed in contemplation.

“What’s the look we need to go for? How does Hyun dress?” Her head turned to look back at Jae. He thinks back to the last time he saw Hyun,

“He likes dressing comfy and casual, he was wearing jeans and a oversized sweater.” Komi nods her head thoughtfully, “Makes sense since we're heading into fall, to be warm and casual, are you gonna give him a dress code?”

Jae just raises an eye brow, “why would I give him a dress code? We’re just going on a picnic.” Komi raises her hands in mock defense, “Listen, I just had to ask.” her eyes dart from Jae to his wardrobe and back again.

“So, we'll just dress you similarly to him; a nice pair of jeans and a t-shirt, maybe a light jacket over it, in case it gets a little colder later.”

Jae's expertise was in tech, so he just let Komi have at it, his thoughts slowly drifting to Hyun su.

As much as Hyun appreciated his days of silence, he really missed Jae, especially his good morning texts. Funnily enough he hadn't realized until now, how lonely he was before Jae started texting him so often.

Hyun really thought he was fine without other people, but it figures Jae would pop into to life to prove him otherwise.

Jae-ahjussi, good morning!

sent 10:34

Technically not morning, but you get the idea

sent 10:42

Again with the ahjussi, haven't I told you to call me hyung?

sent 10:48

Either way, how're you feeling?

sent 10:51

I'm feeling okay, actually, and really happy hearing from you

sent 10:56

I actually kinda miss your voice, can I call?

sent 11:00

You can call always,

sent 11:03

Hyun's finger hovered over the call button for a few seconds, still a tiny bit unsure before he presses the button, and waits for Jae to pick up.

“Hey pretty,” No matter how many times Jae called him pretty, he doesn't think he'll ever get used to it. No one's ever referred to him as pretty, and no ones ever said it the way Jae ho does.

It gives him butterflies in all the right places. “I just missed you, I know I asked for space but I missed talking to you everyday.” There was a beat of silence before Jae responded.

“Pretty, I can give you anything you need from space to attention to anything else.” Jae chuckled through the phone, “Don’t be afraid to ask me for anything” Hyun couldn't quite help it, he blushed full force, he never used to blush this bad before he met Jae.

“Okay, I’ll try to tell you what I need more.”

“That’s all I ask of you pretty.”

“Speaking of asking for things, I want to officially invite you on our first date.”

”Oh really? And when is this date going to be?”

“Well, if it’s okay with you, Id like to take you out this Wednesday after school.” Hyun deliberated for a moment, humming into the phone. “You know what, I think I’d like that. Do you want to meet up somewhere, or will you be picking me up?”

“I’ll pick you up from school, what time do you get out?”

“Usually around 4:30, so don't be late okay?”

“Never, I’ll be right on time to get you. Make sure to bring a sweater, okay?”

“Okay, I’ll see you then sweater and all, Bye Jae.’

“Goodbye pretty, I’ll see you soon.”

Come Wednesday morning, Hyun su couldn't keep his excitement on the inside, he was absolutely ecstatic. He has never been this happy for anything that has happened in his life.

Thankfully Do hun had decided to leave him alone today, so he wouldn’t have to explain away any unwanted bruises to Jae. He did his best to focus on his teacher, but he was just buzzing with energy.

Thankfully the last bell of the day rung, and he grabbed all his stuff and almost bolted out of the classroom. He made it to the front of the school mostly before everyone else and hoped that Jae would be here soon since classes had let out a bit early today.

“Hey Hyun su.” and it seemed like the universe was mocking him, because there was Do hun and his gang. He looked around for Jae hoping he was here, but only caught sight of the many students pouring out from the gates.

He caught a glimpse of his sister Su-A, and tried to catch her attention, hoping upon hope that she would help him. She caught his gaze and then kept walking, ignoring him and his silent plea for help.

“Do hun, please, not today.” Do hun smirked, scoffing at Hyun sus plea before roughly grabbing him by his collar, “And what makes you think I’m going to listen to you?”

Hyun su knew what was going to happen next, he was going to be bodily dragged somewhere secluded and beaten. He closed his eyes and hoped it would be over soon.

Before he could be dragged to whatever decrepit alleyway Do hun had in mind, the sudden roar of an engine overtook the area. Everyone still in the vicinity looked for the sound, and caught sight of a sleek white motorcycle pulling up to the school curb.

The rider on it was wearing a black sleeveless shirt, dark jeans and black boots. His jacket was tied around his waist and his outfit contrasted drastically with the white helmet he was wearing.

Hyun mentally thanked the unknown man for the distraction, but before he could make a break for it, the mysterious man took off his helmet and looked straight at the picture of Do hun manhandling hyun su; It was Jae ho.

His brow furrowed as he turned his motorcycle off, dismounted and headed straight for them. Hyun su was still shocked that his date had arrived on a motorcycle, and just watched him approach. Jae was suddenly right next to them, brow still furrowed and a downward curve to his mouth.

His eyes darted from Do hun to Hyun su, before he spoke up.

“Might I ask what you’re doing holding my friend that way?” Do hun didn't immediately think he was talking to him, before he realized Jae was staring at him. “Who? This guy? We’re just friends, I was just messing with him.”

Do hun let go and smoothed out his collar, before backing up a few steps. “Isn’t that right, Hyun su?” Hyun didn’t want Jae ho to worry about him, that was the last thing that he wanted today.

“Yeah, of course, he was just messing with me Jae-hyung.” Jae tentatively reached out placing his hand ever so softly on his shoulder, rubbing soothingly,

“Are you sure? You look a little shaken.” Hyun looked up at Jae, seeing him so worried for him, he needed to diffuse the situation. “I'm perfectly fine,” Hyun gave him a large smile, “I was just hanging out with Do hun until you got here.”

Jae still looked a bit dubious, but he dropped it, thankfully. “Well then, are you ready to go?” Hyun smiled again, but genuinely this time. “I’m ready to go when you are!” Jae ho gently steered Hyun towards the motorcycle, which Hyun su was still shocked about.

“I didn't know ahjussis like you rode motorcycles.” Jae ho didn't say anything, but Hyun saw him roll his eyes before smiling fondly at hyun. “Only cause I wanted to impress you, did I do a good job?” Hyun blushed a little bit, because Jae was right, it did impress him. “Maybe just a little bit,” he raised his hand up with his thumb and forefinger almost touching,

“But only like, this much.” Jae's smile grew larger, “I guess I’ll have to try harder to impress you next time.”

“Oh yeah, you have something that could impress me more than a motorcycle?”

Jae spun around briefly, walking backwards a few steps “That’s a secret, so you'll just have to wait and see.” He spun back around just as they reached the motorcycle and opened the storage on the back of the motorcycle to take out a matching helmet to Jae's own.

“Alright, come here,” He puts the helmet on Hyun's head and tightens the straps, lightly hitting the chin of the helmet to make sure it fit snugly. “Alright so, just a couple of rules, hold on tightly to me and lean when I lean.” Jae grabs his helmet and puts it on.

“You ready to mosey?” Hyun su was more than ready,

“Lets mosey.”

Getting on the motorcycle was different, and finding the foot pegs was a little difficult, but they were soon situated and ready to go.

Jae started the motorcycle and the roar almost scared hyun su, and as they were leaving he caught a glimpse of do hun and his gang staring, but he didn't mind today; he had better things to do.

 Hyun sus first ride on a motorcycle was so exciting, it felt so fast and free, he felt like bird. However all too soon they reached their destination, which was surprisingly Namsan Mountain Park, Su had never been there before and it was beautiful.

“Hyung, It’s beautiful here,” There were some people there, but for the most part it was pretty empty and quiet. “The weather is so gorgeous today too, we really lucked out huh?” Jae ho tilted his head back, basking in the sun.

“We really did luck out today, it’s really beautiful.” Jae reached to hold Hyun's hand, “Now let’s go before we lose daylight!” and Jae promptly started dragging Hyun along in some random direction.

“Hey, some people don’t have ridiculously long legs like you do! Slow down!” Jae ho just flashed him a cheeky smile and kept going. They got to their destination a couple minutes later, where it wasn't anything grand, it was a simple picnic.

A checkered blanket and a little picnic basket in patch of sunny field. “A picnic?” Jae looked a little pink in the face, “Well, I figured that you wouldn't want to be around a lot of people and that you might enjoy some time outside after being inside for so long.”

Hyun honestly hadn’t been expecting that, but the fact the that Jae had thought over every detail to make sure that he was comfortable awed him. He must've taken too long to respond because Jae's smile dimmed just a little bit.

“Do you not like it? we can do somethi-” Jae didn't have time to finish his sentence because Hyun tackled him in the biggest hug he knew how to give, he poured all his appreciation into the hug and hoped Jae could feel it through his touch.

“I love it, I love it so much.” Hyun leaned back to beam up at Jae “You put all this together for me, no one has ever did something like this for me, Ever.” He nuzzled back into Jae.

“Thank you Jae ho, I really, really love it.” He could feel Jae physically relax now knowing that Hyun su liked his surprise.

“Well then, I guess we better eat before the food gets cold.”

Later after most of the mandu and kimbap were gone, (Komi was right, it was a perfect picnic food) they lay on the blanket gazing at the stars. “You know, I think you came from the stars.”

Hyun su wasn't quite sure what made him say it, but he knew it was true, “You're my own personal wishing star, and I know we were meant to meet each other.”

Jae hid his face in his hand, mostly because he didn't want Hyun su to see how red his face had gotten but also because he needed a moment or he was going to cry. “Nah, if anyone is a wishing star, it’s you.” He lowered his hand just a smidge so he could look at Su,

“I have never met anyone who shines as brightly as you do.” Hyun would like to say he has gotten used to Jae's particular brand of flirting, but that would be a lie.

“Oh shut up, I don't, but either way I'm glad I met you.” Hyun's hand started drawing random designs where it lay on Jae's arm.

“And I want to say thank you, for finding me that day.” Jae intertwined their hands together,

“I think I was always meant to find you.”

Chapter 5: I wither away...

Summary:

“Well, look what we have here, a little rat trying to escape its trap.”

And like every other day Hyun was too frightened to move, too frightened to look away.

Chapter Text

It was a little bit before Jae would take Hyun home, but as the good times with Jae wound down, his head started crowding with unwanted thoughts; and he started staring off into space where he was laying on the blanket, completely in his own world.

“Hey… Are you sure you're ready to go, you look like you have a lot on your mind.” Jae had been packing away all the leftovers when he spoke up. Unfortunately for Hyun, Jae was right, Hyun had one thing on his mind and one thing only; Do Hun. He knew when he went into school tomorrow, he would be in a world of pain.

He didn't know what Do Hun would do to him, but he knew it was going to be on the more extreme end of the bad things Do Hun has already done to him; Hyun only knew he didn't want Jae to be worrying about him, so all he said was,

“Jae-Ahjussi, I’m fine, don’t think this hard, you'll hurt your brain.” and quickly reached up to bop him on the nose. “Alright, come here.” Jae quickly wrapped his arms around Hyun's middle and lifted him into the air, over one shoulder, and started tickling him,

“I've had enough of you calling me ahjussi, take it back!” Hyun wasn't gonna back down, even if he was halfway into the air. “No!!” he immediately started squealing as Jae got him in the ribs, “You can’t make me do anything old man!” Jae stopped what he was doing,

“Old man, huh? I’ll show you who’s old!” Jae Ho set him on his feet before he immediately started tickling his ribs again, however it was worse this time because he had both hands free. “Jae!” Hyun was giggling between every other word at this point.

“Jae!! Jae-hyung!!” Jae Ho stopped his tickle torture, “Yes, my pretty?” Hyun was heaving for breath at this point, he didn't want to admit defeat but he also knew that his lungs couldn't take much more. “Okay, okay, Jae hyung; I'm sorry I called you an old man and an ahjussi.” Jae gave hyun another poke in the tummy, Hyun responded with a squawk of indignation, the only appropriate response to ticklish pokes.

“Good, and remember this for next time, because I will tickle you again.” and he wriggled his fingers like he was some cheap villain in a b-rated movie. “Okay okay, Dr. evil, no need for dramatics,” Hyun eyed him for a minute and then the food left on the blanket. “On a serious note, do you need any help?” Jae shook his head from where he was finishing packing up, before he paused and looked at Hyun Su,

“Actually, I do need you do one thing for me.” Hyun perked up, always happy to help his Jae out(keep that part a secret okay?), “What can I help you with?” Jae’s mouth quirked up just a little at the corner, like he was suppressing a smile that he didn't want Hyun to see just yet. “Could you just close your eyes? That's all I need.” Hyun looked at him a little strange, but he trusted Jae, so he just closed his eyes. “Alright, they're shut, what now?”

“Just wait, Mr. impatient.”

“I'm not impatient!”

“That was for the Dr evil comment.” While he was talking to Hyun, Jae had pulled a small box out of his motorcycle compartment and opened it up. Inside was a Van Cleef & Arpels Necklace, this one specifically was the Magic Alhambra version, it was a beautiful deep red color. Jae Ho looked up at hyun and then back down on the necklace, and he just knew it would look beautiful around Hyuns’ neck.

During their banter, he walked behind Hyun and clipped the necklace around his neck. Looking at the necklace from the font, it settled right in the middle of his chest, only visible if he wore it over his clothes or if he wore a low cut shirt. Hyuns’ hand immediately came up to touch the necklace, as it settled on his chest, his eyes opened to see what it was.

“….Did you buy me a necklace?”

“I did, and I knew it would look good on you.” Hyun couldn't really see the necklace so he grabbed his cell from his pocket to use the camera to get a better look. Honestly, Hyun loved the necklace, it wasn't too extravagant and was minimalistic in design. “Jae, I love it! You didn’t have to get me anything, you already got me a lot of stuff.” Jae moved around back in front of Hyun, the smile he was trying to hide now came out in full force.

“I know that, but it makes me happy to make you happy, so I got you something.” Hyun was speechless, he knew Jae was a wonderful person, and the fact that he got Hyun a present ‘just because’ was of huge importance to him. Hyun Su reached forward to lock fingers with Jae and lightly started to swing their arms back and forth between them.

“You just keep surprising me, don't you?” Hyun thought Jae couldn't smile any wider but he did. “I do try my best, and I am glad you like it, I thought it would suit you perfectly.” Jae pulled him in for a quick hug, pulling back just a bit to look Hyun in the face, “Alright, not to break the moment, but its getting chilly.”

Both of them seemed to forget that it was August, almost turned September, and the temps were quickly dipping down low. “Right you are, let’s get heading home.”

Jae quickly returned Hyun Su home, without incident, and headed on home himself. Hyun headed straight to his room, while avoiding his family and started getting ready for bed, however his thoughts quickly turned back to Do Hun and his accomplices. As much as he didn't want to think about them, they had been a part of his life for so long that he didn't know how to not think about them.

Even though they were a negative impact on his life, they were still an impact upon his way of life and how he went about living. He would love nothing more than to focus on Jae and continue on never remembering Do Hun and the terrible people he uses to hurt Hyun Su with, much as a master craftsman uses his tools to leave his mark on his work.

What was he going to do? He couldn’t run nor hide nor fight, he could do nothing, so what what was he going to do?

whatwhatwhatwhatwhatwhatwhatwhatwh-

Ding!

It was only the sound of his phone pinging that brought him out of his panicked spiral, he hadn't even noticed his breathing picking up and his hands and body trembling. His shaking hand reached for his phone, but before checking the notification, he took a deep breath. Finally he checked who was contacting him this late; Instead of the nightmare scenario that do hun had somehow found his number, it was Jae. Of course it was, it seemed like Jae was always right there for him when he needed him, even if it wasn't physically.

hey Pretty, just about to head to bed, just wanted to ask you something

hyung, I'm glad you're home safe! what did you wanna ask?

could i pick you up from school tomorrow? not for a date(unless you want to) but just to take you home

I wouldn't be opposed to another date, but this time I get to plan it! and I get to decide the dress code.

I would love it if you came and picked me up again

Just as Hyun Su finished sending that, a yawn snuck up on him, he was tired from todays physical and mental activities, and was ready to crash into bed.

I'm getting tired, I’ll head to bed, goodnight Jae hyung

okay, I’ll see you tomorrow, goodnight Pretty

Hyun Su woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed, excited for the day(and the date) to come, they were going to go cafe hopping in Yeonnam-dong; which Jae didn't know yet, it was a surprise! Hyun Su never had anyone to go with and now he can go with Jae. he texted him, knowing he’d be up, even if it was 5 in the morning (the old man).

wear a red sweater or cardigan and jeans.

that's it? nothing else?

that's it! I’ll see you after school!

Hyun Su immediately ignored his phone wanting to leave Jae on his toes, and his wanting to find his red cardigan and a pair of jeans to change into, before he met Jae after school. Hyun was so excited to wear a couples outfit with Jae, it would a little surprise for Jae and and a treat for Hyun Su. He was in a little bit of a rush, so he hurried as fast as he could, packing his back pack and getting ready to head to school.

Surprisingly, today he was faster than his sister and headed off to school before her. He had hoped heading to school early would let him get there and in the classroom before do hun, and if all went well, today could pass without incident.

Unlike yesterday, luck wasn't on Hyuns’ side, and as soon as he entered the classroom an all encompassing feeling of dread enveloped his body. He had been staring down at his feet as he walked in, but something made him stop were he was and start to look up. He slowly lifted his head up from where he froze in the doorway only to see do hun sitting, no lounging in his seat; he stayed frozen and couldn't move nor think, all that was running through his head was that there was no escaping and he didn't know what to do.

Do Hun hadn't caught sight of him when he entered but then he caught sight of Hyun Su, and the look on his face was terrifying, he was smiling but in a way that Hyun knew was insincere and gave him the feeling that was going to happen next would not be good for him. Do Hun stood up from the seat moving as if he had all the time in the world, lazily sauntering over to the doorway.

“Well, look what we have here, a little rat trying to escape its trap.” like every other day Hyun was too frightened to move, too frightened to look away. “Now, who was that yesterday? Don't tell me you made other friends besides us?” the laugh that came from do hun was startling and cold, washing over him like ice.

“Now I'm hurt Hyun Su, I thought we were your closest friends, how could you treat us like this?” as Do Hun was talking, he got closer and closer to Hyun Su, until without warning, POW!… Do Hun had punched him straight in the stomach, Hyun lost his breath and barely avoided throwing up from the force. The punch brought him to his knees, if someone saw them they would think Hyun was begging forgiveness from Do Hun.

The pain blinded Hyun Su, it coursing through him and blanking his mind of everything else. Why did he think today would be different? Nothing good ever lasts for Hyun and he knows it, and most importantly Do Hun knows it too. he sat there hunched over, prone waiting for Do Huns’ next insult or strike.

“If I didn't know any better I’d say you were trying to get rid of your friends, but you wouldn't do that, right?” as Do Hun finished talking, he crouched next Hyun and grabbed a fistful of his hair, yanking Hyuns’ head up to look him in the face. Do Huns’ face was twisted with malice, making him look not human.

“Now, we both know that your going to call this other bastard up and you're going to tell him that you don't want to be friends anymore, right? We’re the only friends you need.” At this all of Hyuns’ self pity started receding, because as much as he didn't want to get beat more, he would never give up Jae; for the simple fact that he hadn't given up on Hyun. They had only known each other for a few months, but this was the most happiness and joy he had in a long, long time.

So for the first time since Do Hun had started targeting Hyun Su, he looked him in the face and said,

“Bite Me.”

Do Huns’ face contorted more, this time with anger, “I guess this little rat hasn't learned his lesson, huh? Guess it’s time to re-educate him.” but just as do hun and his accomplices crept closer to do just that, the bell rang, Hyuns’ only source of mercy.

“Ah, saved by the bell this time?” the sinister grin on Do Huns’ face grew wider, “Don't worry, we’ll continue this at lunch time.” and they went to their little corner in the classroom, minding their own business, as if they didn't just torment him. Hyun had just a little bit of time, he never had any one on his side before but he did now, he had Jae.

He quickly, quietly, secretly brought his phone out and sent a single message.

Jae had been having a great morning; he got his morning text from Hyun, his favorite cafe still had his favorite spinach puffs this morning, and he only had the minimal amount of paperwork to do today due to his hard work yesterday.

Yeah, this was a pretty great day today, and as he sat there looking over the company earnings with all their charts and graphs, he heard a ping from his phone. He got the instinctive feeling it was from hyun and smiled to himself. His smile dropped as he read the message that waited for him, unchanging and terrible.

Jae, please come get me now, I need your help, I’m not safe

I’m still at school, hurry

Jae ho was already out the door, the hinges creaking as they swung from the force, thoughts only on Hyun Su.

Chapter Text

Of all the times Jae hadn't taken his motorcycle to work, he regretted it today the most. He wasn't able to weave in and out of traffic, and although it wasn't legal and he wouldn't usually drive that way, he wanted to get to where Hyun was asap.

He didn't know what made Hyun scared enough to text him but he would find out and there would be hell to pay on this earth. All he could really do was speed where he could and hope that he got to the school before anything bad could happen.

Hyun knew that Jae’s office was a ways away, so it was highly unlikely that he would get here before Do hun got his hands on him. Against all odds he really wanted him to get here before Do hun did get to him; because he knew Do hun wouldn't wait until lunch, he would get him by the first break at least, if not the second break.

Hyun watched the clock hands tick closer and closer before the bell rang out for the 10 minute break. 10 minutes wasn't a long time, but it was long enough for Do hun to hurt Hyun su. As hard as Hyun tried it was 5 against 1 and they quickly and bodily dragged Hyun, struggling, to the the nearest boys restroom.

There was no pause or hesitation, they just started beating on him. Blows rained down from every angle hitting him in sore spots and new spots, but never in the places that would be telling to teachers and his family.

Although most of the teachers and his parents knew of the abuse, they were too afraid of Do hun’s father to do anything about the torment. Hyun's father was employed by Do hun’s father and the school received a good sized chunk of funding from Do hun’s family as well.

This made Do hun nigh untouchable, and that meant on and on Hyun su’s torment continued and would continue until either Do hun stopped (which would never happen) or he changed schools (he couldn’t afford it). As sad, as pitiful, as it was; Hyun lay there being beaten within an inch of his life, and he couldn’r really feel the pain.

He was numb to it at this point having been subjected to this on a near daily basis for the past year. (It was his reason for being on the bridge that fateful night. When he met Jae).

Finally after what felt like hours, which in reality was only a few minutes, Do hun and his lackeys stopped. It was not because they wanted to but because they were forced to.

Standing there, like an avenging angel, was Jae; he was red faced but not from running, he was red in anger. Do hun tried to play off what was happening much to Hyun Su’s dismay,

“Ohhh, you're Hyun's new friend right? We were just helping him up, he fell on some water and roughed himself up on the way down.”

Hyun su was afraid, afraid to look up and see Jae accept the excuses just like every other adult(that failed him) did in Hyun's life.

“Oh? That's what that is? So, you ganging up on hyun and beating him was him slipping?” Hyun looked up at Jae as quickly as he was able, through the pain that was blurring his vision.

Jae’s face was set in a countenance that didn't suit him, compared to the smiles and laughs he knew he was capable of, was instead a mouth set in a grim line and eyes that burned in an all consuming fire of absolute RAGE. Hyun wanted to warn Jae to stop, that Do hun could do a great many things with his connections; But the pain, the bruises, the exhaustion rendered him unable, so all he could do was lay there and watch.

“Ah, is that what you think you saw? I'm sure you were mistaken.”

Do hun’s previous wide insincere grin slipped off his face faster than water, settling into an unspoken warning, ‘Keep talking and ill ruin you’

Jae stood there unafraid and strong, reassuring to Hyun, he could see Jae looking at him periodically with worry and rage intertwining.

“No no, I know what I saw, and I won’t let you keep hurting Hyun su” Do hun got cocky at this, a smirk forming, before he rolled his neck like the insolent teen he was.

“Oh yeah? And what do you think you can do about it? My father owns everyone in this city.” Jae’s jaw ticked in anger, and slowly he lifted a hand, instead of the punch Hyun thought he was going to throw; He instead pointed at Do hun, as if making a point.

“Ahhh, that's where I know you from. Kim Do hun, Kim Dong min’s kid. He talks about you a lot” Jae stepped closer to Do hun,

“He never mentioned that you were a piece of scum though.”

Do hun thought he was gods’ gift to earth, and took immediate offense, swinging a punch at Jae Ho. Su expected to hear the impact of fist on flesh, but when he didn't hear that he opened his eyes, he didn't even remember closing them.

Do hun's fist was caught in Jae’s hand, and Dohun, who was pretty strong, was struggling to pull his hand from Jae ho’s.

“You know I work with your father, I think he would be disappointed to hear about his precious sons’ behavior” he spit that last phrase in sarcasm and vitriol. Hyun was trying to stay awake and see what was happening but he could feel unconsciousness tugging at his brain. “Great, probably another concussion” he really didn't want to have to go to the hospital again, he was always alone there.

Hyun must've blacked out for a minute because when he came to, he was loaded up in the back of an emergency vehicle and Jae was with him sitting right by his side.

“Hey Ahjussi, you found me.” Hyun could see the tiny smile of exasperation, but it was overpowered by worry and concern.

“Of course I did, I told you, I was always meant to find you. No matter what, I will always find you when you need me and when you want me.”

As Hyun passed out again from the pain killers, he blamed the tears on the pain that hadn't quite disappeared yet.

Jae had never been as angry as he was right then, not when he discovered his parents opened a credit card in his name, not when his friends showed their true colors, not even when he found out his closest confidant had betrayed him and shared company secrets; He was angrier and filled with more ire than any of those incidents combined.

Hyun, his absolutely wonderful Hyun su, was laying on the floor curled up and looking at him like he was his only salvation, and while there were no visible bruises on his face, he could see the beginnings of red peeking out from under his collar.

and the man, no the child, responsible for Hyun's pain was standing in front of him with his goons standing behind him, like he was some big shot instead of the parasite Jae knew he was.

Jae was in auto pilot, he wanted to get hyun out of there as soon as possible, when Dohun said the phrase about owning the city and it clicked, he knew this child(because any body willing to beat anybody who doesn't fight back is a coward and a child and deserved to be treated as such) and even better? he knew his father, he was the Branch manager of the branch established here in Seoul.

After the Dohun kid took a swing at him, he had the thought that maybe he should rethink his fathers’ position as branch manager.

“Now I'm going to give you two choices, either you stop and leave this place entirely or I can kick all of your asses, because you threw the punches first, I was just defending myself.”

Dohun knew he had fallen for Jae’s trap from the look of sheer irritation that crossed his face. Jae could see him mull over his words in anger before he made the only right decision (Jae wanted so desperately for Do hun to take another swing, to give him the justification he wanted).

“Fine, we’ll leave, but don't think for a moment this is over.” Jae thought to himself as he brushed past them dismissively that it was already over, he just didn't know that yet.

He hurried over to Hyun, and not wanting to move him called emergency services. Before he knew it, they had been picked up and transported to the hospital. And even though Hyun was still unconscious he was bandaged, medicated and no longer on the hard tile floor.
