Chapter Text
Amity Blight was a 17-year-old girl that could be perceived as the most successful teenage witch of the boiling Isles, that is from an outside perspective, of course, people never know what goes on in between 4 walls.
Even if all the signs are there, people still choose to look past them and push people to a place where they are described by a list of adjectives that will almost always be: smart, serious, strict, and uptight.
But Amity wasn't like that at all, it was the people around her that were supposed to love her that made her this way.

"Luz please, you have to listen!", Amity begged desperately trying to stop her hand from completing the dangerous spell circle that pointed at Luz, "please go through the portal."
"NO, no, Amity I'm not leaving you like this!", Luz shook her head, determined to stay at her girlfriend's side, "Fight it!"
Slowly Luz walked closer to Amity, leaves of their grom tree swirled around them, it would've been beautiful if they weren't in this situation right now, and both girls wouldn't do anything rather than cuddle closely together and watch the pink leaves floating around them.
And then, Luz gently cupped Amity's cheek as if it was the most precious thing in the world, her thumb stroking over her soft skin
Amity her eyes were locked on Luz's, her thoughts were still hers and they were yelling at her to kiss her and tell her that it would all be okay, that they could be together without any pressure or stress of the world around them, that they could lay together in front of the tree and talk until the sun came up.
But her body wasn't her own, it didn't do what she wanted, it did what the necklace wanted. The emerald green shining necklace that she couldn't remove from her neck no matter how hard she tried, the one that followed every word that the emperor said.
And sadly, those words had been: get rid of the human and bring the portal to me.
Her hand shook intensely as Amity tried to stop her hand from completing the spell circle pointed at Luz's chest. Tears of feeling utterly powerless streamed down her eyes.
"Luz please, I'm serious, I- I can't, please, this is the only way I can save you."
Luz stared into her eyes sadness reflecting in the beautiful glass to her soul, trying her hardest to find one hint that she might be telling a lie, but Amity's pleading and almost completed spell circle that she was trying to fight against rang her alarm bell with a horrible realization.
"What did Belos ask you, sweet potato?", Luz asked with a whisper, her voice so silent that Amity could barely hear it even though she was almost touching her nose with her own.
"I have to get the portal key...", another tear rolled down her cheek and she hiccuped as if what she was about to say next made her throat collapse, "And get rid of you."
Luz sighed sadly and gazed into her girlfriends' golden eyes: "Okay, I'll go, but promise me that you will be okay."
The only reason that Luz agreed is that she knew her girlfriend as no other, she could clearly see the effort Amity had to put into not completing the circle, so much so that it even seemed like she was hurting herself instead fighting against every muscle that was pulling the other way.
"I don't know, but I know I'll be much more okay knowing that you're safe, so please, go to the portal!!"
Luz cupped Amity's other cheek, "I will", she promised as her lips met her girlfriends' for possibly the last time, her lips tasted salty from the tears that they were both having but also sweet, just like her Amity.
Luz deepened their sorrowful kiss for a moment trying to take in every detail of Amity's touch so that she could remember it and imprint it in her brain.
But Luz knew that it couldn't last forever. She released Amity's now red cheeks and leaned her forehead against hers for a second.
"There's just one more thing I wanted to tell you", Luz whispered in a hoarse voice with tears blurring her vision,"I love you, Amity Blight."
And with that, she ran, as fast as she could towards the portal. Fetching a piece of paper out of her cat hoodie's pocket.
She stopped right in front of the door, looking back one final time, bidding Amity a silent goodbye.
And there she was. If future Luz would look back at that moment she would describe it as the start of the hardest period of her life. And that she hadn't been prepared at all for what would happen after she went through that portal.
But present Luz didn't know that yet, so she went through and slammed the fire glyph that she had taken out of her hoodie earlier on the portal.
And with that, every trace of the human Luz Noceda was erased, memories of her would soon become just as much rubble as the remains of the portal door.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I'm going to be late again!!", Luz almost tumbled down the stairs in her haste. She was going to be late for school again, and she couldn't get detention again because then the people at her school would laugh at her even more! And she was not looking forward to that, her school year had been hard enough already.
"Don't forget your lunch mi bebé, You forgot to make it last night", Luz heard her mother Camila calmly state from another room in the house, "and try to not forget to drink enough water."
Camila was used to Luz chaotically rushing out of the house to school every day so she didn't think too much of it anymore. Luz was not an organized person, especially not in the mornings.
"I sure will, thank you mamá, te amo!", Luz quickly crammed the lunchbox in her shoulder bag with loads of pins on them and put one cookie in her mouth, "Que tengas un gran día en el trabajo!"
And with that Luz hopped on her bike and rushed to her school and to her relief she arrived just as the bell signal could be heard.
"Well at least this bell doesn't scream", Luz thought as she slightly smiled at her own joke.
It had been 3 years since she had left the boiling isles and she missed it every single day. Some nights she rolled around her cushion and cried in it, hoping that her mother wouldn't hear her in the other rooms. It just hurt so much knowing that she belonged somewhere where she could never return to.
Where all the people like her were, people that understood her and liked her for who she was. She couldn't get that in this realm.
Well her mom did, but that was everyone, and you can't bring your mom to school.
Thinking about this made Luz sad again, she felt her eyes turn down to the ground and suddenly she didn't know why she even bothered so much to be on time when going to school, it wasn't even what she was interested in.
Luz could do many things, she could speed read one page in less than a minute, she could speak 3 different dialects and write in the Azura Rhune language! She would do anything for her family, could draw a perfect circle, and knew every kind of rock that existed on the planet Earth.
But that wouldn't help her with her grades at school which had been dropping lately. It wasn't like she didn't want to study, but every time she tries to sit still at her desk and learn the words in her textbooks that she had forgotten to fill out in class, she got lost in her own whirlwind of thoughts or saw a nice bug on her window and had the certain irresistible urge to draw or paint it.
No matter what she would constantly get distracted by the world around her and get mad at herself for it later on.
See she was doing it again, she was going to be late for class if she stayed standing like this! She got lost in thought too often.
"Oh come on Luz, you did it again!", she cursed herself out and ran to her first lesson.
But right before she could even get remotely close to her classroom her phone rang and Luz Noceda had learned to never ignore a phone call because it can always be a work emergency.
When she pulled up her phone she was surprised that she saw the name of maybe the only person she could talk to in the whole school: Vee.
She was a little bit different too, she always sat at the back of the classroom and rarely spoke. She could often be seen paying attention to the teacher while doodling little stars on her hands and arms, and even her legs when it was hot and she was wearing shorts.
They became friends (?) when Luz complimented her about her hair. She really liked the blonde with blue under and later on, when they had to work on a partner project for that same class they paired up and put a kick-ass project on the table about the evolution of classical music.
What has been seen as Classical music at the moment that our now perceived classical music was made? Well, they knew now.
But thanks to this project Luz had gotten hold of Vee's phone number. She had a Nokia phone so when she called you knew that it was serious.
Luz picked up the phone and immediately heard hyperventilating on the other side.
"Vee?! Vee! Are you okay? What's going on?", Luz asked with a little bit of worry for her friend, "Why are you hyperventilating?"
Vee was quiet but she asked Luz to do something very important for her. She sounded so mysterious and Luz was intrigued by it. She asked Luz to go to her locker, still insisting that it was very important, and open it.
Once Luz arrived at said locker Vee shared her code and she opened it successfully.
Inside it, there were some basic locker things: some maps, a mirror, some spare socks, an extra beanie, a book, and a slightly disturbing amount of chips and Capri Suns.
And one deck of cards that Luz immediately recognized.
"No way..."
"Yes way", Luz heard Vee say from the phone.
"How did you get these?"
Vee sighed and promised her that she would explain it as soon as they were together. So she got a message with the number of the classroom: B308.
Luz, who was very intrigued by what Vee was going to say rushed to the classroom, quickly hopping up the stairs with 2 steps at a time.
"Vee, explain to me, how did you get hexes hold 'em cards, how do you know about them?", Luz barged into the classroom but her mindless bantering quickly stopped when she heard short breathing in the corner and saw something sit there that didn't look like Vee anymore.
Luz slowly walked to Vee, she noticed her and pressed herself closer to the wall.
"Oh no, don't worry Vee, I'm not going to hurt you", Luz reassured softly as she went to sit on her knees in front of the basilisk, "You're a demon from the Boiling Isles aren't you."
Even though the situation was very... extraordinary... you could see the excitement in Luz's eyes.
If a demon of the Boiling Isles could come to the human world, there must be a way for the human, Luz, to go to the Boiling Isles, right?
Vee nodded shyly and put out her hand asking for the card, her other arm remained in front of her head in a way of trying to protect herself from Luz even though that really wasn't necessary.
Luz handed her the card pack and the demon took them gratefully.
"Thank you", she said shyly as she took one of the cards out and put it in her mouth. Suddenly the basilisk changed back to her human form that Luz had gotten used to and Vee sighed in relief.
She looked up to Luz to thank her but when she did she was met with an excited Luz sitting on her knees and tapping on said knees with her hands.
"Soooo, Vee", Luz said with a bright smile, "Tell me everything!"
