Chapter Text
“Hello?” you answered, expecting to hear your best friend, Katie’s voice.
“Hey, Aunt Y/F/N?” your three-year old godson said.
“Hey, Spencer. What are you doing with mommy’s phone?” you asked.
“She gave it to me to call you. She said to tell you to get your butt over here, now,” he said.
“Spencer, we’ve talked about this. You really shouldn’t repeat what your mommy says word for word.”
“I know. Mommy said ass,” he said, giggling.
“Oh my goodness. You are just like her, but I love you little man. Tell her, I’m on the way.”
“Okay. Bye,” he said and hung up before you could respond.
Katie had met and married Dennis Phillips about four years ago and within six months she was pregnant with Spencer. Now, she was pregnant with their little princess which was yet to be named. The night before the wedding, Katie had sworn to you that you would get together every week for dinner, after the honeymoon of course. She had kept that promise every week, except for when she was in labor with Spencer. Technically, they were together, but Katie said it didn’t count since she couldn’t eat anything. Their meals in the beginning were just the two of you, with Dennis understanding that you needed your girl time but eventually he joined in. When you were dating, your boyfriend came along as well. Most of the time they were actors and Dennis tried to connect with them, but they usually only wanted to talk about their work, except for Taylor who loved Hockey. Dennis actually liked him, and he and Katie thought he was gonna be the one, but he landed a role on a new TV series and had to move to Texas. Y/F/N was crushed but she didn’t want to stand in the way of his success. They continued to date for a couple of months, but it wasn’t working with you flying to be with him every two weeks and especially after visiting the set, where he was surrounded by beautiful young women. You fought and then you both decided it was for the best to end it. Ever since, you had focused on your career and being there to babysit Spencer when Katie had a doctor’s appointment or Dennis had to work.
You walked into their house and immediately jumped in to help with the meal, which tonight was spaghetti and meatballs. Spencer called it worms and mud balls, which was how Katie had gotten him to try it. Within minutes, everything was ready, and you fixed Spencer’s plate and sat him down at the table. You made Katie sit while you made her plate while Dennis made his and then you made your own. You and Dennis sampled a new bottle of wine from Salt while Katie and Spencer drank water.
“Any new prospect’s this week?” Katie asked before taking in a forkful of spaghetti.
“Two actually but one is a movie that would be filming for about 3 months and the other is an episode of a TV show,” you said.
“Wow! Go for the movie!” Katie said, in the middle of chewing.
“You wouldn’t say that if you knew it was in LA and would mean that I would miss the birth of my namesake.”
“Oh, never mind. The movie is out, and I never said that I was naming her Y/F/N.”
You laughed as did Dennis.
“I’m gonna keep suggesting it even when you’re in labor,” you said, grinning back at her.
“Of course, you will you bit- best friend of mine,” Katie said, as she looked at her son, who was trying to capture the meatball that had rolled off of his plate. She leaned forward and stabbed it with her fork and then placed it back on his plate and cut it up into smaller pieces.
“Mommy, no! Now it’s just mud!”
You all laughed, and Spencer looked at everyone and then smiled. He was a character and loved it when he made people laugh even if he didn’t know why they were laughing.
“Yeah, but now you can spread the mud all over the worms. They love playing in the mud,” you told him.
“Do yours,” he said, and you looked at Katie and then Dennis, as they chuckled. You cut up your meatball and spread it around as Spencer watched you.
“So, what’s the TV show, Y/F/N?” Dennis asked you before taking a sip of wine.
“Even that’s gonna be a problem because I have a history with one of the stars. It’s Supernatural,” you said, watching for Katie’s reaction.
Her eyes widened and she spit out some of her water.
“Jensen’s show?”
“My agent said that it’s a sure thing because she knows the director of the episode and he owes her a favor, but she assured me that of the names and bios that she sent over, he was only interested in me.”
“Maybe, it’ll be good. Remember what I told you he said and remember how long he called you before he finally gave up,” she said.
“Yes, I remember. I almost had to get a new number. I can’t believe we haven’t run into each other before now with both of us still in Vancouver,” you replied.
“Don’t you think that it would be good to get some closure and clear the air with him. You might become friends…. or maybe more,” she suggested.
“No, I’ve learned my lesson. You don’t date your coworkers,” you said assuredly.
“So, that means you’re gonna take the part?” she asked with one eyebrow raised.
—------------
Jensen and Jared were in Jensen’s trailer on a break in between scenes. Jared was on his phone watching funny videos while Jensen was talking to his mom.
“I don’t know, Mom. We don’t usually get time off for Easter because we’re so close to the end of filming,” he said. “If I can come for the weekend, I will, but right now I can’t make any promises.”
He sighed and rolled his eyes as she continued to talk. Jared looked up and chuckled at his friend who had become like a brother to him. In fact, Jensen’s parents had become like another set of parents to him as he affectionately called them Momma and Papa Ackles. In return, Jensen felt the same about Jared’s parents.
Jared and Jensen’s phones simultaneously dinged and Jared looked at the new message. It was next week’s script and a list of the actors and actresses that would be guest starring. He knew that Phil Sgriccia was the director for the episode, and he was always fun to work with.
“Okay, Mom. I need to get back to set….Yes, I will…..Love you, too. Bye,” Jensen said, lowering the phone and sighing heavily.
“What’s wrong?” Jared asked.
“She’s worried about me. When I was home for Christmas, she invited over her friend's daughter to “fix” me up. She doesn’t think there are any good women here. In other words, no women that are marriage material by Texas standards,” he said as he put his phone back in his pocket.
“Yeah, I used to get that same speech from my mom, but now I have Sandy. Hey, we just got next week’s script. It looks interesting. The writers have it taking place on a movie set. A peak behind the curtain for the fans so to speak.”
“That’s different,” Jensen said as he pulled it up and began to read.
The guys fell silent as they read over the script.
“No fucking way,” Jensen said suddenly as he stared at his phone.
“What?”
“Y/F/N Y/L/N is going to be in the episode.”
“Who’s that?”
“The girl that got away. The one that I fell for within a few days on the set of Dark Angel. We had a huge misunderstanding, and she wouldn’t listen to me, wouldn’t take my calls, and I didn’t know where she lived, but I did know where she worked.”
“Did you go there to see her?” he asked.
“Yes but talked to her roommate instead and explained everything. She said she would tell her, but I still never heard back from her. Man, it’s gonna be awkward seeing her again after all this time,” Jensen said.
“Maybe she’s forgotten about it.”
“Thanks, dude! Drive the stake further in my heart.”
Jared stared at his friend.
“You still have feelings for her, don’t you?”
“Naw, come on, man. That was five years ago. She could be married by now, for all I know.”
“Is she?” Jared asked.
Jensen licked his lips and then clenched his bottom lip between his teeth. “No.”
“And did you ever find out where she lived?”
“Uh, yeah. Followed her home from work one time.”
“Dude. You stalked her?”
“I wanted to see her. Make sure she was okay. But then a few weeks later, this guy shows up and they go out on a date and then-” Jensen paused and looked away as if it still hurt.
“Man, I’m sorry. I had one of those too,” Jared said.
“One of what?”
“What could have been if things hadn’t gone off the rails. Are you gonna be able to work with her?”
“Guess I don’t have a choice in the matter.”
