Rose Punch

Summary:

At the Queen of Hearts birthday party, a spiked punch bowl starts a war for the heart of one Azul Ashengrotto. Who will win? Cunning and crafty Jamil Viper or the ever present Jade Leech?

Work Text:

“I have too much work to do.” Azul said, not even looking up from his spreadsheet.

Jade’s smile got a little bit sharper, the tea he had made was getting cold.

“You need to take a break.” Jade stated simply.

“Yeah, Azul! Let’s take a break!” Floyd said from his place laying face down on the couch.

Azul sighed deeply and glanced at Jade.

“You of all people should know how busy I am right now, Jade. I’m sorry, but it is going to have to wait. Maybe next time.” Azul said before he turned his attention back to the numbers before him.

Jade’s smile twitched. He turned and placed the tray down on the low table.

“Ah, is that so? And here I had heard that Jamil might be there.” Jade stated.

The clicking from Azul’s calculator stopped immediately.

“Jamil will be there?” Azul asked.

Floyd watched as his brother’s jaw clenched before it smoothed out, Azul was unable to see it.

“So I have heard. Kalim mentioned it before class this morning and Jamil agreed to let him go, which naturally means Jamil will be there.” Jade stated as he poured a glass of tea and turned back to Azul.

Azul was rubbing his chin, staring off into space.

“Well, if Jamil and Kalim are going, I don’t see why I can’t take a small break and go as well.” Azul said as he took the cup Jade handed him.

“I’m pleased to hear it. It starts in an hour, so you should hurry up and finish.” Jade stated.

“Very good. Thank you, Jade. Please do one last glance over the Lounge before we go. You too, Floyd” Azul said, waving them off as he went back to his documents.

“Yes Azul.” Jade said, hand on his chest.

“Fineeee.” Floyd said as he got up.

The twins left the room and as the door clicked shut, Jade’s smile dropped. Floyd stared at his twin with a frown.

“Why are you letting this happen, Jade?” Floyd asked as they moved to the bar.

Jade placed the tray down and idly ran his eyes over the area before he spoke.

“Letting what happen, Floyd?” Jade asked as Floyd slid into a seat and leaned on the bar.

“Azul’s crush on Sea Snake. How come you aren’t doing anything about that?” Floyd asked curiously.

Jade moved around the bar, idly fixing any small mistakes he found before he spoke.

“I do not see why I would do anything about it. If Azul has a crush on Jamil, it is none of my concern.” Jade replied.

Floyd huffed with annoyance.

“Jade, don’t lie to me.” Floyd demanded.

There was a pause before Jade turned to his twin.

“You’ve had a crush on Azul since we were guppies. You can’t tell me you are fine with him picking someone else.” Floyd said boredly.

Jade frowned and looked away. Grabbing a rag, he started to wipe down the counter as Floyd watched him.

“If Azul is… in love with someone else, it is not my place to try and break that, Floyd.” Jade said quietly.

Floyd’s brow furled.

“The fuck? Since when?” Floyd demanded.

“Floyd, stop.” Jade said calmly.

“No! No, I’m not going to stop! Why are you letting this happen, Jade?” Floyd demanded, slamming his fist on the counter.

“Floyd, I said enough!” Jade snapped.

Floyd bared his teeth, eyes narrowed as Jade stared at him cooly.

“I just don’t get it!” Floyd said angrily.

Jade sighed deeply and looked away. Staring at the counter, seeing his own reflection stare back at him, Jade spoke.

“It’s been years, Floyd. If Azul liked me back, he would have made it clear by now.” Jade said simply before he went back to work.

Floyd leaned back in his seat and frowned.

“But we both know Sea Snake is in love with Sea Otter. Azul’s gonna get his heart broken.” Floyd said.

Jade closed his eyes.

“I know Kalim loves Jamil as well. It’s only a matter of time.” Jade muttered.

“So why aren’t you saving him from heart break?” Floyd asked.

Jade shook his head as the office door opened.

“I am done. Let’s go.” Azul said as he walked past the two. The twins locked eyes.

“Yes, Azul.” they said as they followed him out the door.

—sSs—

Stepping into the Heartslabyul dorm was like stepping into another world. The heart obsessed dorm was all decked out, balloons and decorations everywhere. They were definitely putting Kalim’s parties to shame with how much time and effort they had put in. Azul adjusted his tie before they stepped forward. At the front gate, Cater Diamond glanced up from his clipboard and smiled.

“Yo! Azul and co! I didn’t expect you guys to come.” Cater said with a wink.

“As if we would miss the party of the year.” Azul said sweetly.

“Not sure if it’s the party of the year, but it’s definitely #thebigone. Alright, you guys are on the list, head on in. Clone three up!” Cater said with a nod.

A Cater clone stepped forward and smiled while saluting.

“Just follow me!” the clone said before leading them into the Rose Maze.

Azul and the twins followed the clone deeper and deeper into the maze until they came out to the party. Students from every dorm were there, party hats and noisemakers in hand. In the middle, a large rose bush had been transformed into a copy of the Queen of Hearts statue from Main Street, a heart balloon in hand and a party hat on her head. The Queen of Hearts’ birthday was a huge celebration every year and Riddle treated the day as a sacred celebration, pulling out all the stops. Looking around, Azul’s eyes landed on Jamil and Kalim standing with a small group.

Kalim was talking excitedly, a party hat on his head, clearly in a festive mood. Jamil was just standing beside him, holding a glass of rose punch and keeping an eye on things. Azul smirked as he dusted himself off and fixed his cufflinks.

“I will be back. Enjoy yourselves and Floyd, please do not upset Riddle. I would hate to be thrown out.” Azul said before he walked off.

“Yeah, yeah.” Floyd said bored as he rubbed his neck.

Jade’s jaw clenched as Azul made a beeline for Jamil. Jamil glanced up just as he took a sip of punch, looking eyes with Azul as he got closer and Jade’s hands clenched as Jamil smiled, SMILED, at Azul and turned his body to the octopus, giving Azul his full attention.

“Woah, when did that happen?” Floyd asked, startled.

“I am not sure. Last I checked, Jamil was still furious with us.” Jade admitted.

“Huh.” Floyd muttered.

The twins watched for a moment more as Azul and Jamil started to talk, seemingly enjoying their conversation before Jade sighed and turned away.

“Let’s get some punch.” Jade said as he moved to a huge table nearby.

On the table was a rose shaped miniature water fountain that was spurting out rose red punch instead of water. As they got closer, Jade made note of Ace and Deuce sneaking away from the punch, snickering between them with a large, empty bowl in hand. Jade raised an eyebrow as he grabbed a cup and got some of the punch.

“Here.” Jade handed it off to Floyd, who wiggled his nose.

“It smells funny.” Floyd whined and Jade raised an eyebrow as he took a quick sniff.

It did have a strange smell to it. It smelt heavily perfumed and Jade wiggled his nose.

“Hm, maybe I’ll just have water.” Jade said as he put the cup down to the side.

Floyd shrugged, but kept holding his cup. Jade grabbed some water and they stood next to the table of food, watching as the party continued to grow as more people showed up. Azul and Jamil were deep in conversation and was it Jade’s imagination or was Jamil moving closer to Azul every few seconds? Jade’s eyes narrowed as Jamil laughed at something Azul said, making Azul flush with delight, his eyes sparkling.

“I think I’m gonna be sick.” Floyd muttered.

“Floyd, stop.” Jade replied.

It was at that moment, Azul broke off from Jamil and walked over to the table where they were standing. He looked like he was floating on air. Jade hated it, but said nothing as Azul got closer.

“You look like you’re having fun.” Floyd said boredly.

Azul smiled.

“I suppose I am. I am not sure why, but Jamil is much friendlier to me today. Perhaps my persistence has finally paid off.” Azul said with delight.

His eyes scanned the table before eying the punch in Floyd’s hand.

“How is the punch?” Azul asked.

“It smells funny. I don’t want it.” Floyd said, holding out the cup.

Azul grabbed it from him and took a whiff before shrugging.

“It smells odd, but it can't be that bad.” Azul said as he took a sip.

Azul’s eyes landed on Jade and for a moment, Azul’s eyes flashed red before he lowered the cup, still staring at Jade. Jade raised an eyebrow.

“Is there something on my face?” Jade asked with a smile.

Azul’s face flushed and he quickly looked away.

“No! No, your face is fine. Very nice. I mean, very handsome. I mean… umm.” Azul stumbled over his words as Jade blinked, startled.

“Eh? Azul, why is your face all red?” Floyd said as he leaned in.

Azul leaned back, his face turned even more red.

“I-I ummm” Azul muttered helplessly.

Jade turned to Azul completely and frowned. Pulling off his glove with his teeth, he reached up and pressed a hand to Azul’s forehead. Azul squeaked, eyes wide and face as red as a painted rose as he stared at Jade.

“You are rather warm. Perhaps you have been in the sun too long?” Jade asked.

“Is everything ok over here?” Jamil, appearing out of fucking no where, asked.

Jade raised an eyebrow as Jamil’s eyes darted between Jade’s hand, Azul and then Jade’s face, arms crossed. Jade pulled his hand back and put his glove back on.

“It seems Azul is not feeling well.” Jade stated.

Jamil immediately turned to Azul and placed his own hand on Azul’s forehead, much to the trio's shock.

“Hm, he is right. You are warm. Come, stand over here with me.” Jamil said.

Without a moment’s hesitation, he grabbed Azul’s arm and pulled him towards a shady spot nearby. Jade and Floyd could only stare as Jamil dragged Azul away from them. Azul kept looking between Jamil and Jade, but allowed himself to be pulled along, seemingly not sure what to do.

“What… just happened?” Floyd asked, looking at Jade.

Jade looked at Floyd and shrugged before he followed after them. Jamil had taken Azul to a small table in a shady area and had Azul sitting down, checking his pulse and handing him a cup of water. Azul was nodding along as Jamil spoke, but his eyes were locked on Jade and Floyd as they got closer.

“He left Sea Otter behind.” Floyd whispered as he leaned towards Jade.

Jade’s eyes looked towards where Jamil and Kalim had been standing and sure enough, Kalim was still standing there, looking around in confusion.

“He abandoned Kalim?” Jade muttered in confusion.

“Something weirdddd is happening.” Floyd sang and Jade could only nod as they got to the table where Azul and Jamil were.

“Tell me if you start to feel lightheaded.” Jamil commanded, arms crossed as he stood over Azul.

“Jamil, I assure you, I am fine.” Azul said, hand on his chest, trying to look honest and innocent.

“Heat stroke is nothing to scoff at, especially for a merperson. I agree with Jade on his assessment and I believe you should sit here in the shade, drink plenty of water and probably take your jacket off.” Jamil explained quickly.

“T-Take my jacket off?” Azul muttered, face going red.

“Yes, to cool down. Here, let me help.” Jamil said, reaching for Azul’s jacket.

Azul all, but jumped from the chair, putting it between them.

“I-I am more than compatible to remove my own jacket, thank you! Please give me, but a moment.” Azul stumbled over his words.

Jamil raised an eyebrow, but pulled back.

“Very well. I would roll up your sleeves as well.” Jamil stated.

Azul huffed and quickly turned around, fingers moving silently to undo all the buttons. Jamil’s eyes were locked on Azul’s shoulders and back as he pulled his jacket off, head tilted slightly to the side in appreciation. Jade bit into his cheek to keep from saying anything about it, tasting blood. Azul placed his jacket on the back of his chair before starting to roll up his sleeves.

“You are more muscular than I expected.” Jamil said and Azul blinked.

“Ah, yes. I suppose.” Azul said with a flush as he sat back down.

“Everyone always thinks Azul’s all soft and squishy, but he’s really strong.” Floyd said.

“Yes, Azul in his full merman form is quite powerful. Especially with his eight tentacles.” Jade agreed.

“And really big! He makes the two of us look like little guppies!” Floyd cackled.

“Stop you two. You know that’s only under water.” Azul muttered as he took a sip of water.

“Hm in that case, I would be curious to see it for myself.” Jamil stated.

Azul was about to speak when he was cut off.

“Jamil! There you are!” Kalim called as he ran over, waving.

Jamil let out a deep sigh before turning to Kalim with a dark look. Kalim paused, his smile falling as Jamil stared at him.

“Kalim, a pleasure to see you again.” Jade said, feeling the tension rise.

Kalim turned to Jade and his smile was back.

“Jade! Floyd! Azul! You came!” Kalim said, clapping his hands.

“Yes, well, we have heard this is the party of the year. Would be quite a missed opportunity if we didn’t come.” Azul said.

“We missed it last year.” Jade said.

“Oh, how unfortunate!” Kalim replied.

“They seriously went all out.” Floyd said.

“Scarabia holds better parties than this weekly.” Jamil cut in before Kalim could say anything.

Kalim blinked, startled. He started to rub his hands together, a nervous habit.

“Is that so? We’ve never been invited.” Jade said, smirking.

“Except for Winter Break.” Floyd chuckled.

“And we all know how that came about.” Jade finished.

Jamil’s eyes narrowed.

“A mistake on our part then. We are scheduled for a party this week and I would be honored if you would join us.” Jamil stated.

“Eh? But, but, but you said no more parties, Jamil?” Kalim said, startled.

“That was before learning that our fellow students hadn’t experienced our Scarabian hospitality. It would look poorly upon our dorm if we didn’t. Surely you understand.” Jamil explained without skipping a beat.

Kalim blinked, seemingly unsure of what to make of that. Jade just smiled.

“Well, we are looking forward to it then. I am sure it will be your best one yet.” Jade replied.

“I promise you. This party will look like a picnic compared to the party we will throw.” Jamil stated.

Electricity sparked between them as Floyd, Azul and Kalim looked on. It seemed like something was happening here and no one was sure what it was. Azul sighed and stood up.

“I need more water. I will be back.” Azul said.

Jamil’s and Jade’s heads snapped to him.

“I got it.” they both said.

They looked at each other before quickly turning and walking towards the food and drinks table. Azul blinked before looking at Kalim and Floyd.

“That was… odd?” Azul muttered.

“A little.” Kalim agreed.

Floyd laughed.

—sSs—

The party lasted well into the evening before Riddle finally kicked everyone out. The entire time, Jamil stayed by Azul’s side, even when Kalim tugged at his sleeve and asked if they could go. Azul seemed overwhelmed by Jamil’s intense attention, causing him to bolt for the Octavinelle mirror as soon as they hit the Hall of Mirrors. Jamil frowned when Azul disappeared into the portal, the twins pausing before following him.

“Good night, Kalim, Jamil.” Jade said with a nod.

“Byee~” Floyd said waving before they followed Azul.

On the other side, Azul was speed walking to the dorm, but the twins easily caught up to him with their long legs.

“Azul~ You’re all flustered.” Floyd teased.

Azul huffed and glared at him.

“I am not. It’s the heat stroke.” Azul replied.

“My, is that so?” Jade asked, grinning.

“It has nothing to do with the fact that Sea Snake gave you all his attention, is it?” Floyd asked.

“Ugh will you two stop teasing me! Jamil was just being…kind. That’s all.” Azul demanded.

“Aw, Azul’s no fun.” Floyd whined.

They stopped before Azul’s door and he glared at them.

“It was a one off thing, I am sure. Now if you will excuse me, I am going to bed. Goodnight.” Azul slipped into his room and closed the door with a snap behind him.

Jade’s smile died off immediately and Floyd huffed, rubbing the back of his neck.

“I didn’t know Sea Snake knew how to be kind.” Floyd said boredly.

“Jamil certainly doesn’t give everyone his attention. That is usually saved for Kalim.” Jade agreed.

“But now Azul has it.” Floyd said.

Jade let out a deep breath and Floyd eyed his brother nervously.

“Jade? Are you ok?” Floyd asked.

Jade turned on his heel and headed for their room. Floyd followed behind quietly. Behind closed doors, Jade started to remove his uniform while Floyd flopped onto his bed. Floyd watched his brother as he carefully took over each piece and put it away.

“So what are you going to do?” Floyd finally asked.

“Like I said, Floyd, if Azul wants to chase after Jamil, then I am not going to stop him.” Jade paused and in the mirror, Floyd saw Jade smile.

“I’m just going to make sure that Jamil understands that Azul is worth every single mark. That Azul deserves everything he has to offer and if he isn’t willing to give it, well...” Jade stated.

Floyd winced and silently said a prayer.

—sSs—

Azul settled down at his vanity and let out a long sigh. Rest his arms on the top, he laid his head down.

“What… was that?” Azul muttered with a flush.

Just this morning, he had been thinking about how handsome and cunning Jamil was, how Azul was amazed that Jamil could hide his true skills for so many years and no one was the wiser until his overblot. Just this morning, Azul had been sure he had a crush on Jamil and was sure it would never be recuperated.

Now, he was reconsidering. When they had gone to the party, Azul had been so happy when Jamil had given him his undivided attention. For so long, Azul had been trying to get Jamil’s attention on him and it had been a failure. Nothing he did had made the Vice want anything to do with him, yet something had changed. Jamil had been talking with him, even laughed at one of his lame puns and Azul had been over the moon about it.

He had walked away to clear his throat, his allergies had been acting up because of all the blooming flowers and then something had changed. Maybe it was the pollen, maybe it was the sun or maybe it was something in Azul’s brain that had finally noticed something that had been by his side this whole time. He had taken one look at Jade and…

Azul buried his face in his arms as his face started to heat up, his heart was pounding in his chest and he was sure his palms were sweating. Jade had looked so… handsome. The sun had hit his hair just right, making it shine like an underwater jewel. His eyes had sparkled and his smile had been kind. Azul had almost been thrown off his feet when he realized how hard his heart had been hammering in his chest. And when Jade had gone ahead and pulled off his glove with his teeth, Azul’s whole body had sparked with interest.

It had been so sudden, so quick and so out of left field that Azul’s whole brain had been thrown off. All he could do was stand there and stumble over his words like an idiot. And at that moment, Jamil had come to his rescue. Had appeared out of nowhere and even though Azul had been over the moon just a moment before, suddenly he had wanted nothing more than to stay with Jade and just bask in his presence, but Jamil had pulled him away. For the rest of the day, Jamil had been so caring and kind, something Azul had little experience with.

Lifting his head up, he stared at his own reflection. While it had been years since Azul had been the small, chubby octopus who had been picked on by his fellow mermen, that didn’t mean his self-esteem and self-confidence had gotten any better if his overblot had proven anything. As far as Azul was concerned, he was no better than his younger, helpless self. Who would ever want a person like him? Much less two incredibly amazing men like Jamil or Jade? Eyes filled with tears, Azul made a decision and sat up.

“It was just a one time thing. The sun got to me, heat stroke like Jamil said. I should just ignore it. It’s better that way...” Azul muttered as he wiped his tears.

Yes, that was the only way. He just had to stay away from the two men that made his heart flutter, wait until it stopped happening and everything was back to normal. To keep himself from certain heartbreak.

—sSs—

“Good night, Jamil! Sweet dreams!” Kalim’s voice faded out as Jamil closed the door behind him, heading for his own room.

With his final check of the night done, Jamil could retire to his own room and consider a few things, especially the last few hours. As he sat at his vanity, he started to take his hair down, removing the gold discs, gems and braids, but his hands worked on autopilot as his mind wandered. This morning, if someone had asked him what he thought about Azul Ashengrotto, he would have said the merman was an annoyingly persistent brat.

Ever since Winter Break, Azul had tried nonstop to get on his good side, something Jamil had made the firm decision he would never let happen. Azul and his minions had ruined months worth of planning and careful manipulation in three short days, ruined his reputation in Scarabia and had caused a rift between himself and Kalim that might never be fixed. For those things alone, Jamil had been positive he would never, ever look at the silver haired merman as anything more than a nuisance, an annoying gnat he had to deal with. That Jamil would be dead and buried before he would ever give Azul his attention. That had changed just a few short hours ago.

After getting to the party and making sure Kalim would have a safe and fun time, Jamil had grabbed some punch and had been ready to spend the entire afternoon following Kalim around. He had taken one sip, turned his head and… Jamil’s hands stopped, staring at his reflection as his face flushed.

Silver hair that glittered like the silky thread sold in the markets near their home, blue eyes like the sky and pale skin like the ever shifting sand, Azul had walked towards him with confidence flowing from every pore in his body and Jamil’s heart had surged in his chest. Jamil had found himself captivated by every word that had fallen from Azul’s lips and had even laughed at a pun he had made, something Jamil would have never done just a few hours before that. The way Azul’s eyes had lit up, the way his face had flushed, the way he had held himself, everything Azul was had made something in Jamil’s brain roar to life.

He wanted to take Azul and hide him away. Lock him away in some tower for only Jamil to look at, like a precious gem for him to covet. The surge of his own dark desire had startled Jamil and still did, but the desire burned hot. Even now, he had the urge to find Azul and bring him to Scarabia. Set him up in the room in the same hall as himself and Kalim and make sure that Azul was close by at all times. When Azul had walked away, Jamil had chugged his punch, trying to keep his mouth from going dry, but when he had looked up to see where Azul had gone, his protective instinct had surged forward seeing Jade touching Azul’s forehead.

When he had gotten there, he had learned Azul hadn’t been feeling well and years of taking care of Kalim had kicked in. Heat stroke was something Jamil had dealt with quite a few times and he had immediately gone into mother hen mood, going so far as to try and help Azul out of his jacket as he often did with Kalim. However, Azul had been able to do it himself and while Jamil had never assumed Azul to be buff or well built, Azul’s arms and back had surprised him. Definitely a swimmer's build was just the slightest bit of chub, proving that Azul was both strong and someone who liked good food.

Jamil himself was quite fit and he had always appreciated other men who were physically fit, but the fact that the twins, probably the most physically aggressive people on campus, had agreed that Azul was much stronger than them had caused a curious reaction in himself that he was going to have to unpack later. Jamil hadn’t been able to bring himself to move away from Azul, hadn’t been able to do anything else, but look over him and keep Azul close by. Even as the party had ended, it had taken everything in him not to pick Azul up and bring him to Scarabia, knowing that would only cause problems.

Dropping the last of his hair ties on his vanity, Jamil stared at himself in the mirror and felt something clawing up from inside him. Gritting his teeth, Jamil felt his gums ache.

“Azul. Azul. Azul. Azul. AzulAzulAzulAzul. AZUL AZUL AZUL AZUL.” like a howling beast, Jamil’s brain demanded only one thing.

Jamil squeezed his eyes shut and let out a slow breath before opening them.

“They want a party, I will give them a party.” Jamil said darkly before he stood up and got ready for bed.

—sSs—

The next morning, Azul got up and got ready for classes, only to hear a knock at his door.

“Come in!” he yelled as he finished his morning routine.

“Good morning, Azul.” Jade said as he walked in.

“Morning~” Floyd called, waving.

Azul glanced up and nodded before he grabbed his bag. Remembering his promise from the night before, Azul tried not to look at Jade as they passed through the dorm and into the Hall of Mirrors. On the other side, however, they found Jamil and Kalim waiting. The second they came through, Kalim came bounding over.

“Azul, Floyd, Jade, good morning!” Kalim said with excitement.

“Good morning, Azul.” Jamil said, focusing his attention on Azul only.

Azul smiled, trying not to look at Jamil, instead focusing on Kalim.

“Kalim, Jamil, good morning! I hope you both slept well.” Azul said cheerfully.

As Kalim cheerfully launched into a long story about his dream the night before, Jamil frowned when he realized Azul wouldn’t look at him. Sensing eyes on him, Jamil turned and found the twins staring him down.

“Jamil.” Jade said with a smile.

“Jade, Floyd. Good morning.” Jamil said calmly.

“Morning.” Floyd said as he grinned a smile full of teeth.

“Shall we get moving? We are going to be late to class.” Jade said sweetly.

“Ah! You’re right!” Kalim said before turning to Jamil.

“We have to hurry!” Kalim said in a rush.

Jamil sighed and looked at Kalim.

“Calm yourself. We will make it in time.” Jamil replied.

Azul started walking and almost immediately, Jade took one side and Jamil took the other. Kalim blinked before shrugging and turned to talk to Floyd as they walked. Both Jamil and Jade spoke to Azul, but he stared straight ahead and didn’t dare look at either of them as he replied, yet a soft flush coated his cheeks, much to both of their delight. As they made it to the first class of the day, Jamil grabbed the door and held it open for Azul, who flushed even deeper.

“Ah, thank you, Jamil.” Azul muttered as he darted inside.

Jamil turned to Jade and shot him a smirk. Jade just smiled back at him, though his eye was twitching. Kalim bounced right in behind Azul. Jade and Floyd, the only two not in this class, stayed outside.

“You two should get to class before you are late.” Jamil said before he stepped inside and closed the door behind him.

Floyd slowly looked at his brother and swallowed.

“Let’s go Floyd.” Jade said as he started to walk away.

“Coming.” Floyd called.

—sSs—

Azul may have made a mistake when he went to class today. How he somehow managed to forget he had class with Jamil first thing in the morning, he would never know, but as he sat down, Jamil and Kalim sat down right next to him. Sure, Kalim was between them, but Azul could feel Jamil’s eyes on him as he got out his notebook and got ready for class. Trein walked in and soon began.

Azul turned his full attention to the lesson before him. He was diligent in his note taking, it wouldn’t do him any good to fall behind. Every once in a while, Kalim would whisper a question to Jamil, who would reply. It was actually rather sweet to see and Azul was reminded that Kalim and Jamil were long term friends, much like himself and the twins. As his mind started to wander, he somehow ended up considering if Jamil would take Kalim on any dates he went on. The image was actually kind of distracting. Before he knew it, the bell rang and Azul took as long as he possibly could to clean up, hoping Jamil and Kalim would get tired of waiting and leave.

“Is everything ok, Azul?” Kalim asked curiously.

Azul jumped a bit. Ah, no luck then.

“Ah, no no. Just making sure I had everything.” Azul said, forcing a chuckle.

He finished up and walked up the stairs, where Jamil opened the door for them. Azuil glanced around, but the twins were nowhere to be seen. Azul’s shoulders relaxed a bit. He had some time before his next class, so he turned to Jamil and Kalim.

“My next class is not for a few hours, so I am going to head back to my dorm. I wish you both a good day.” Azul said quickly before turning and walking off.

“Azul.” Jamil called out.

Azul stopped and turned, only to find Jamil directly behind him. Eyes wide, Azul's face flushed at his closeness.

“Ah, yes? Jamil?” Azul said nervously.

Jamil leaned in with a dangerous smirk and oh boy, Azul’s heart was pounding. Jamil was devilishly handsome and Azul was not used to that being directed at him. With a wall behind him and Jamil in front of him, Azul was officially trapped. Jamil held up a rather fancy invitation and held it out. Azul blinked, but took it from him.

“Scarabia is hosting a party this Friday. I hope you will be able to make it.” Jamil said and Azul all, but hid behind the invite.

“Ah haha, yes, I will be sure to check my calendar and see if I am available. I will let you and Kalim know.” Azul said nervously.

Jamil’s smirk got wider.

“I hope you will come. I wish to show you the true Scarabian hospitality.” Jamil said before he pulled away.

Just before he completely made it back to where Kalim was watching. He paused and looked back.

“Also, just to let you know, the party is invite only. Certainly you understand why.” Jamil said sweetly.

“Ahh, of course! Yes, safety first.” Azul stuttered.

“Wonderful. See you then. Azul.” Jamil nodded.

Azul stared at him with wide eyes as Jamil walked off with Kalim at his side. Azul’s face went completely red before he bolted for the dorm mirror. When he got there, he found the twins waiting and the second they saw his red face, Floyd frowned.

“What happened to you?” Floyd asked.

“N-Nothing!” Azul squeaked as he walked through the portal.

Jade and Floyd watched him go and then glanced at each other before following him inside.

—sSs—

For the rest of the day, the invitation weighed heavily on Azul’s mind. He hadn’t opened it. He had shoved it into his desk drawer and refused to look at it again. He went about his day like nothing had changed, but he knew the twins could sense something was wrong with him. It was later that night, long after the dorm should be in bed and all alone, that Azul pulled the invite out.

His fingers ran over the envelope, feeling the extra thick paper and recognizing that it probably cost a small fortune. With a letter opener, he carefully pulled the letter out and recognized that the paper was heavy. It was a classic, overly wordy invite to what seemed to be a simple Scarabian party. Which meant that party was going to cost more than most people make in their entire life.

He knew, realistically, that going to this party would be a great idea. Would help him learn more about the dorm and how he could add to the Lounge to get more students from that dorm to come, but with Jamil’s sudden interest in him, would it be a good idea? But the pros outweighed the cons and he was sure by Friday, whatever this situation was, it would have faded out. Taking a piece of paper from his drawer, he penned a reply confirming he would be in attendance, only to stop. Normally, he would have said the twins would be there as well, but had they received an invitation?

Frowning, Azul decided he would find out in the morning. It was late and he was exhausted. Leaving the letter on his desk, he completed his nightly routine and slipped between the sheets. He was asleep before his head hit the pillow. In the dark of the night, Azul’s door creaked open.

—sSs—

The next morning, Azul felt odd. His mind felt clearer, something he hadn’t noticed the day before and with a frown, Azul wondered if heat stroke could affect him this much, but pushed it out of his mind. As he got up and got ready for class, he took note of the letter he had written the night before. With half a glance, he folded it up and placed it in its own envelope. Azul opened his door, finding Floyd on the other side.

“Where is Jade?” Azul asked as he closed the door behind him.

“He went to check on his mushrooms. Said he would see us at lunch.” Floyd said boredly.

Azul hummed, but continued on. Jade’s mushrooms were his pride and joy, so it’s not a shock.

“As long as he isn’t late to class.” Azul replied as they stepped through the mirror.

—sSs—

Jade’s eyes trailed over his mushrooms, his most prized possessions. His brother and even Azul didn’t understand his love for the earthly creations, but Jade found them truly beautiful, resourceful and fascinating. Much like a certain octopus he knew. Sighing wistfully, Jade covered them again and stood up, hands behind his back. He had some time before classes and as much as he loved his twin, being alone gave him a chance to think and his mind took him immediately to the person he often thought about.

It was somewhat embarrassing to admit how long he had his crush on Azul. He remembered the day they met, neither Floyd nor he had seen anything of value in Azul. He was just another face in the sea as far as the twins were concerned, but at least he was someone new they could mess with. However, Azul had proven them wrong rather quickly. His brilliant and cunning mind had shone through almost immediately when they got to know him better and Azul wasn’t going to be held back by the small minded mermen around them. No, Azul had bigger and better plans and enough cunning to back them up.

It had maybe been within the year of their meeting that Jade’s heart had skipped a beat for the first time when Azul had turned and smiled at him. He remembered swimming to his mother, scared about what was happening. His mother, a kind, but stern woman, had laughed lightly and taken the twins to the side to explain to them about what love was. Floyd had gotten bored and floated off after a few minutes, but Jade had listened intensely.

His mother and father were an odd pair, but they worked together well. His father may have been head of the house, but his mother had been the one in charge and everyone had known it. After meeting Celeste, Azul’s mother, and becoming fast friends, his mother had been pleased by Jade’s crush on Azul, but disappointed he had never taken the step to make it come true. Now, Jade was starting to wonder if his hesitation was about to cost him.

Stopping by a pale blue lily in the gardens, Jade knelt down and studied it with interest. It was beautiful, lovely large petals and a pale blue coloring, Jade was reminded of the very person he had just been thinking about.

“Whoa. Didn’t see you there.” a voice cut into Jade’s musing and his dual colored eyes landed on Ruggie of all people.

“Ruggie. Good morning.” Jade said as he stood up and smiled.

“Jade, it’s pretty early to see you here.” Ruggie said curiously.

“I decided to check on my mushrooms early.” Jade replied simply.

Ruggie hummed, but didn’t reply. Jade noticed a wrapped sandwich in his hand and chuckled.

“Delivering Leona’s breakfast?” Jade asked.

“You know it.” Ruggie grinned back.

“Should I expect you in the Lounge tonight?” Jade asked.

“Of course! I’m on the schedule.” Ruggie stated.

“Excellent. I will let Azul know. Have a good day.” Jade started to walk away when Ruggie spoke.

“You going to the Scarabia party on Friday?” Ruggie asked, hands behind his head.

Jade paused and looked at him.

“Unfortunately, it seems Floyd and I did not get an invitation and it’s invite only.” Jade replied.

Ruggie’s ears perked up.

“Only Floyd and you? What about Azul?” Ruggie asked curiously.

Jade’s smile twitched and Ruggie’s smile got wider.

“Ohhhh I see how it is. That’s a real problem for you, huh?” Ruggie asked.

“I don’t see how it is a problem. Azul is welcome to go to any party he pleases.” Jade replied simply.

“Oh come on, man. Let’s not beat around the bush huh? Everyone knows you have the biggest crush on Azul and legit everyone is talking about the fact that Jamil was seen all over Azul at that party. It’s not hard to put two and two together.” Ruggie stated.

Jade paused, a bit startled.

“Is that so? Well, that is interesting information to me.” Jade said slowly.

“Listen, Azul has a pretty face, something that is shockingly lacking around here. Plus he’s smart, cunning and seems to have his thumb in every pie. If I wasn’t already under Leona’s employment, you bet your ass I would have gone after Azul the second he got here.” Ruggie explained.

“I see. So you are saying I have competition?” Jade asked.

“I don’t know if anyone is crazy enough to try and go up against you, but if it was anyone, I’d place my bets on Jamil.” Ruggie shrugged.

“Interesting.” Jade rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

“All I’m saying is that Jamil is a sneaky motherfucker. If you don’t want Azul to slip through your fingers, I’d get between Jamil and Azul… before it’s too late.” Ruggie finished.

Ruggie turned his head, ears twitching before he turned back.

“I gotta go, Leona’s getting grumpy. But I’d keep my words in mind. Later.” With that Ruggie walked off and Jade was left alone.

One last glance at the blue lily, Jade walked off.

Jamil eyed the list he had in hand. It was all the ingredients he would need for the party on Friday. It would certainly be his most ambitious party yet, but it felt like he had something to prove. He had said this would be the greatest party ever.

“Jamil?” Kalim called and Jamil turned his attention to the heir.

Kalim was standing in the doorway of the kitchen. He knew better than to come inside. This was Jamil’s space and Kalim understood that boundary, one of the few he respected.

“What is it?” Jamil demanded.

“Ummm well, we have class soon.” Kalim said nervously.

A quick glance showed him that Kalim was right. He had lost track of time, something that didn’t happen often. Rolling up his list, he shoved it into his pocket.

“I see. I was just checking the list for the party this Friday.” Jamil stated as he walked out of the kitchen.

Kalim frowned, brow furling.

“But you checked that last night?” Kalim asked.

“I’ve told you before, you can never be too careful or prepared.” Jamil replied and Kalim nodded.

“Azul dropped off a letter for you.” Kalim said, pulling an envelope from his bag.

Jamil all, but snatched it from Kalim’s grip, eyes wide.

“Jamil?” Kalim muttered, a bit nervous about the almost crazed look in Jamil’s eyes.

Jamil didn’t even hear him. He opened the envelope with the utmost care, making sure not to bend or rip anything. Azul’s handwriting, the flowy script was revealed to eager eyes. It was short and to the point, that Azul was pleased to be invited and was going to be there Friday night, not that Jamil had worried he wouldn’t be. Jamil smiled darkly and Kalim shivered a bit.

“Azul is going to be at the party this Friday.” Jamil said as he folded the letter carefully and put it away.

“Oh! That’s wonderful to hear! I can’t wait to see them.” Kalim said, trying to cheer up.

“Them?” Jamil asked.

“Eh? Yes? Floyd, Jade and Azul.” Kalim stated.

“Floyd and Jade were not invited.” Jamil stated sharply.

“Eh? W-Why not?” Kalim asked.

Jamil gritted his teeth, feeling his annoyance skyrocketing.

“I do not want them here.” Jamil replied.

“But… why not?” Kalim asked.

Jamil stopped in the middle of the hallway and sighed deeply.

“Kalim?” Jamil called.

“Oh? Yes?” Kalim replied.

“I do not want Jade or Floyd at this party, do I make myself clear?” Jamil said coldly.

Kalim blinked before slowly nodding. He seemed nervous, maybe even scared, but Jamil didn’t care. Kalim’s feelings on this didn’t matter. Azul was the only person that mattered and on Friday, he would have Azul’s attention all to himself. Jamil had to hold back a smile. Everything was going according to plan.

—sSs—

The rest of the week passed somewhat quietly. Jamil kept his eyes on the prize, not caring about the cost as he got everything he needed to make sure this Scarabia party would be remembered as the best party ever held on campus. Friday couldn’t come fast enough and yet when the day was upon them, Jamil found himself getting up extra early to have time to himself before he had to get everything started.

Pulling Azul’s letter from his drawer, he reread the words again, so if he hadn’t already memorized every word. Azul had been on his mind every day since the birthday party and tonight, he would have Azul’s full attention. He was sure Azul would love the party and no one would get in the way of them. He had made sure of that.

—sSs—

“I am heading out.” Azul called as he stepped out the door that Friday afternoon.

“Have fun.” Jade replied as Floyd whined.

“I still don’t understand why we can’t go.” Floyd muttered.

“It’s invite only, Floyd. I told you this.” Azul sighed.

“I say we just crash it.” Floyd stated as he rested his chin on Jade’s shoulder.

“You two will do no such thing! The Lounge is still open tonight, and I expect you two to run it without me. Perhaps I will get back early and can help, but I better not see either of you at the party, do I make myself clear?” Azul demanded.

“Yes, Azul./Fineee!” the twins replied.

“Good. Have a good night and make sure Jack doesn’t drop any more dishes. We can’t afford to replace them.” Azul said before he turned and left the dorm.

Jade felt Floyd’s eyes on his face, but ignored him as he returned to their dorm room.

“I think this is a mistake.” Floyd stated, leaning against the door frame.

Jade paused before looking at Floyd.

“I am not going to hold Azul back if he wants to go. Remember, he is doing this for the Lounge as well. Our Scarabian clientele has always been rather low. By going to this party, he can get a better idea on how to serve them better and hopefully get more regulars.” Jade explained.

“Jadeeee.” Floyd whined.

“Just get ready for work, Floyd.” Jade replied.

—sSs—

Azul entered the Scarabian dorm mirror and gasped in awe. Clearly with the Asim fortune and Jamil’s planning, Scarabia had been transformed into a colorful work of art. There were animals of every size, color and style. Azul walked along a long red carpet with gold trim that probably took hours to make. Stepping into the Scarabia lounge, Azul was overwhelmed by the smells and colors.

“Azul! You made it!” Kalim said as he came bounding over.

“Of course! As if I would miss such a thing. Thank you again for inviting me.” Azul said sweetly.

“We are both pleased that you made it.” Jamil said and Azul gave a nervous smile.

“Please have a seat. The food should be out soon.” Jamil said as he took Azul’s hand and led him to his place at the table.

Music started up almost immediately as Azul sat down at the low table and Jamil shot him a smile. Azul’s face flushed and he looked away, swallowing.

“It looks beautiful, Jamil. Clearly your hard work has paid off.” Azul stated and Jamil shrugged.

“When you have the money of the Asims behind you, anything is possible. Now, excuse me.” Jamil pressed a kiss to Azul’s hand before he got up and walked away.

Azul stared after him, eyes wide.

“Oh no.” Azul muttered.

—sSs—

As Jade and Floyd started to open the Longe, they were startled when Riddle of all people appeared at the door.

“Ah, Riddle. I apologize, but we are not open yet. Please give us about ten more minutes and we can let the first few guests in.” Jade said sweetly.

Something Jade noted was that Deuce and Ace were trailing behind him, heads bowed and collared. Not uncommon, but still. Riddle usually brought Trey and Cater. He was pretty sure Riddle had never brought those two before.

“I apologize, but I am actually here to speak to you two and Azul. Is he here?” Riddle demanded.

“Unfortunately no, he is at the Scarabia dorm for a party. Would you like to leave a message with me and I will pass it along?” Jade asked.

Riddle sighed and rubbed his eyes.

“I need to speak to Kalim and Jamil anyway, so I will just go see all three of them at the same time.” Riddle stated.

“Is something wrong?” Jade asked, confused.

What would Riddle need to tell all of them so badly?

“Just follow me! I do not want to repeat myself.” Riddle demanded.

“We’re about to open the Lounge.” Jade repeated.

“I promise you, this is more important.” Riddle said.

Jade locked eyes with Floyd, who shrugged.

“Alright, we will follow your lead, Goldfishie, but if Azul yells at us, we’re blaming you.” Floyd said laughing.

Riddle’s face turned red, but he didn’t say anything. He just turned and walked back to the dorm mirror, Deuce and Ace following behind with Jade and Floyd after them.

At the Scarabia mirror, they found an issue. The third year's standing guard refused to let them in because none of them had an invitation.

“I need to speak to Jamil, Kalim and Azul! This is urgent!” Riddle yelled angrily.

“I’m sorry, Housewarden Riddle, but Vice Housewarden Jamil said absolutely no one was allowed without an invite. We are going to have to ask you to leave.” the one said.

“Ohh? And who is gonna make us?” Floyd asked, rubbing his shoulder.

The two guards looked at each other nervously.

“I mean. We will if we must.” the one muttered.

Floyd just smiled and they looked like they were about to wet themselves.

“Umm let us just double check real fast. Be right back.” the two bolted, leaving the same group standing there.

Inside the dorm Lounge, Azul was trying very hard to keep himself from flushing. Jamil was pressed against his side, taking the time to pick food for Azul and tell him, in a rather low voice, what each item was and how it was made. The food was excellent, the drinks wonderfully refreshing and Azul felt like a boiled lobster. He was so red. It didn’t help that everytime Jamil spoke, he leaned in and by the Sevens, did he smell amazing.

“And this is… what’s wrong?” Jamil was cut off by two students approaching the table, looking very nervous.

“I’m sorry Vice Jamil, but Housewarden Riddle is here alongside Deuce, Ace, Floyd and Vice Jade. He said he needed to speak with you, Housewarden Kalim and Housewarden Azul urgently.” the one said.

Jamil scowled darkly before he sighed and stood up.

“Well, let’s see what they want.” Jamil said, holding out a hand to Azul, who took it.

Kalim, sitting across from them, got up as well and they followed the guards to the mirror, where Deuce and Ace were kneeling. Riddle yelling over them, Jade and Floyd watching with amusement.

“May I ask what the problem here is? You are crashing a very lovely party.” Jamil demanded, arms crossed.

Riddle paused and looked up before sighing.

“I apologize for this, Jamil, but after what I learned today, I thought it was best to warn my fellow Housewardens.” Riddle stated.

“Warn us?” Azul asked, confused.

“About what?” Kalim asked.

Riddle turned to Ace and Deuce with a scowl.

“Alright, you two. Time to come clean. Spit it out.” Riddle demanded.

Ace crossed his arms and scowled, but Deuce spoke.

“We… spiked the punch bowl at the party this past weekend.” Deuce said quietly.

Azul raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms.

“A spiked punch bowl is not a big deal, though if you did spike it, you didn’t do a very good job. I didn’t see a single person get drunk.” Azul stated.

“It wasn’t alcohol.” Deuce winced.

“Ok?” Kalim looked at them funny.

“Oh for the love of! It was a love potion. They spiked the punch bowl with a very intense love potion.” Riddle stated.

The whole group stared at him and then looked at each other.

“A love potion? Aren’t those illegal?” Jamil asked, confused.

“Yes, they are.” Riddle growled, glaring at the two cards, who winced.

“I got it as a joke from my brother.” Ace admitted.

Azul blinked a few times before shaking his head.

“I’m sorry, but let me get this straight. You got a highly ILLEGAL love potion from your brother and you decided to spike the punch bowl at the birthday party?” Jamil demanded hotly.

“Yes.” the two replied.

“Wait a moment, what kind of love potion?” Jade demanded.

“The label said “At First Sight”?” Ace said with a shrug.

“At First Sight is a highly powerful and dangerous love potion, Ace!” Riddle snapped.

“One of the most powerful on the market. It’s said that even one sip has a person falling head over heels in love with the first person they lock their eyes on and drinking a whole bottle of it? Drives a person into madness. It was made illegal because of how potent it was.” Jamil explained.

“The person who drinks it becomes obsessed with other person, even if they had no feelings for them previously!” Riddle continued.

Something in Azul’s brain clicked at that very moment. An icy cold feeling started to settle in his gut. His mouth became dry as he looked at Jamil before he looked down. As his mind went back to that party, he remembered Jamil holding a cup of punch. He even remembered having some himself. A horrible, awful feeling welled up in him and he thought he was going to be sick.

“Most people didn’t drink it, they said it smelled funny, thank the Sevens, but I still felt the need to warn all the Housewardens on this development.” Riddle explained, looking at Jamil, Kalim and Azul.

Kalim frowned and looked at Jamil.

“Jamil, didn’t you have some of the punch?” Kalim asked.

Jamil blinked and then a look of horror crossed over his face.

“Yes. I did.” Jamil muttered before his eyes darted to Azul.

Like a brick, Azul stared back at Jamil before his lower lip began to quiver. Eyes filling with tears, Azul let out a weak chuckle and pulled his glasses off.

“Ah, that explains it.” Azul whispered, rubbing his eyes to try and hide the tears.

“It explains what?” Riddle asked, confused.

“I should have known, I suppose. This makes so much sense.” Azul’s voice trembled.

“Azul.” Floyd muttered.

“What is going on?” Riddle demanded.

“I think…Jamil is under the effects of the potion. The first person he saw was Azul.” Kalim said.

Azul hiccupped and turned away, covering his mouth with his hand. The embarrassment was almost too much to bear.

“Of course. Of course, it’s just a potion. Of course. That makes so much sense. I can’t believe I didn’t see it myself.” Azul muttered.

“Azul.” Jamil said softly.

“No, no. It’s fine. I understand. Of course someone would only care about me because of a love potion. That makes so much sense.” Azul said, his shoulders trembling.

The group stared at Azul, not sure what to do before Floyd and Jade moved in. Like a protective shield, Jade wrapped an arm around Azul’s shoulders while Floyd stood beside him. Covering him with their larger forms, Azul felt a bit better, but also felt more raw. He hiccuped again and pressed close to Jade, seeking comfort, but also to hide himself and his weakness.

“I see.” Riddle muttered before he sighed.

“I got an anti-potion from Professor Crewel when I found out. Here Jamil. This will have the potion out of your systems in a few hours.” Riddle said as he pulled the bottle from his pocket.

Jamil was standing there, arms crossed and eyes on the floor. He was gritting his teeth so hard his jaw ached. He felt so stupid now. Just knowing he had been so easily tricked was disgusting. He almost wanted to pull up his hood to hide behind. He felt like he was too out in the open. Too exposed. He wanted to run away. Just thinking about it explained everything, his sudden obsession with Azul, the desire to show Azul how smart and powerful he was, just everything was suddenly so clear to him.

“Jamil?” Kalim called.

Jamil looked at Kalim, who tried to smile, but it came out shaky. Jamil nodded and looked at Riddle.

“I’ll take some. Thank you.” Jamil stated.

“Of course. Jade, Floyd, you both should have some as well. I heard from another vice they saw one of you with the punch, but couldn’t remember which one.” Riddle said, turning to the twins.

Azul flinched violently and a low pained noise escaped him. Floyd looked at Riddle with a raised eyebrow.

“What does Jade need that for?” Floyd asked.

“For the love potion, Floyd. Were you not listening?” Riddle said quietly.

“Huh? Jade didn’t have any of the punch, neither did I.” Floyd replied.

Everyone blinked, looking at Floyd with wide eyes before Azul spoke.

“W-What? But Jade…?” Azul muttered, looking between Floyd and Jade.

“Huh? Did you hear me? He didn’t have any of the punch.” Floyd said again.

“But…? Jade’s been acting oddly for a week now.” Azul’s brow furled.

“Oh, that? He’s just been in love with you since we were guppies. He just didn’t want Sea Snake to come take what’s his.” Floyd said, scratching his inner ear with his pinkie.

“E-Eh?” Azul said, flushing brightly, looking between Floyd and Jade.

“Floyd. Honestly.” Jade said, shaking his head.

“Whatttt? It’s the truth. Just like Sea Otter is in love with Sea Snake.” Floyd whined.

Kalim squeaked and covered his face as he flushed red. Jamil’s eyes got wide and he looked at Kalim, startled.

“Floyddd!” Kalim whined.

“Whoa.” Ace muttered to Deuce, who’s eyes were the size of his face.

“Well… this has been… enlightening for everyone.” Riddle said, looking out of his depth.

“That’s one thing to call it.” Jamil said with a sigh as he rubbed his temples.

“I apologize, but I am feeling very… shaken. I think I am going to return to my dorm.” Azul stated, arms wrapped around himself.

“I think that’s the best idea. I have already spoken to the Headmage about this and these two will be punished accordingly.” Riddle said, glaring down at the two, who winced.

“I agree. I am going to tell the other party members that they are welcome to stay and party, but I am not feeling well. Come on, Kalim. We have been gone long enough.” Jamil turned and walked away before anyone could speak.

“Ah! Jamil! Wait for me!” Kalim said, rushing after him.

“Come on, Jade, Floyd.” Azul muttered as he stepped through the mirror portal.

Left alone, Riddle glared at Deuce and Ace.

“I hope you two realize how destructive and cruel your actions were.” Riddle said coldly.

“Yes, Housewarden.” the two replied.

“Good, let’s go.” Riddle turned and walked out.

—sSs—

Back in the safety of his dorm, Azul locked himself away. He threw himself on his bed and cried softly into his pillow, cried all his pain out until he had no tears left. It was hours later before Azul heard the door open. He turned over and saw Jade standing there. With a sniffle, Azul held out his arms and Jade smiled gently as he slid into the bed and pulled Azul into his arms. Closing his eyes, Jade cradled Azul to his chest and let him seek comfort in his arms.
