Chapter 1: Chapter I: For Never Was There a Story More of Woe Than This

Chapter Text

Wednesday had just been told by her parents that she was to start Nevermore in three days.

Enid had just been told by Principal Weems she was getting a roommate in three days.

Tyler was trying to figure out what happened three days ago.

The sheriff was trying to figure out if his son had anything to do with the murder in the woods three days ago.

The Nightshades were cleaning the hidden library after the exclusive party they threw three days ago.

Eugene was collecting the three day old honey he had from his shed.

Thing was waiting because in three days his new bottle of his favorite lotion would arrive.

All of these people were surrounded in a flash of light and were brought to the same room.

“What is going on?” Enid asks as she tries to get her legs back under her. Ajax helped her stand which led to blushing from both teenagers.

Morticia and Gomez Addams are huddled together, both looking straight at their daughter after they had checked the other was okay.

The sheriff and his son have claimed a corner and are looking around in either confusion or anger and distrust, three guesses to who is doing which. And if you need the second two…

Bianca, Yoko, and Divina, are huddled together and are whispering to each other in concern and confusion as Kent stands tall next to them protectively, glaring at everyone he doesn’t know.

Eugene is looking at everyone with scared eyes, only calming down when he realizes there’s an adult he trusts, his Principal. Plus Enid is here and he has a thing for werewolf girls.

Weems is taking everything in, cataloging which of her students are here and who otherwise might be a danger to them.

Wednesday is intrigued, interested as to why they are all here. She starts looking around trying to find an exit just in case they were all kidnapped, though she’d want to see why they were taken before trying to escape. That’s when she sees it.

There is a table in the front of the room, under the large screen taking up one of the walls. On this table was a single sheet of paper, the only free standing thing in the room that wasn’t a person or a piece of furniture.

The Nevermore students have gathered together, whether they are friends or not, which leaves Wednesday as the odd one out, well except Tyler but as he is a normie kid and standing next to someone who could only be his father, he doesn’t stand out as much as the girl in black.

Instead, most people are looking at Wednesday as she picks up the piece of paper, a hush falling over the room.

Wednesday is used to be stared at but the silence is new, usually there are whispers accompanying the stares.

She looks up to see everyone looking at her, or rather the paper in her hands.

“What does it say, Darling?” Her mother asks.

Wednesday looks at her mother passively, not thrilled with the nickname especially in front of all these people.

She reads from the paper in her usual monotone voice.

Hello Everyone,

I am sorry for how you have all arrived but do not fret, you shall be returned to the same place and time as you left. Nothing will change back home while you are here.

There is a collective sigh of relief at that, at least they get to go back .

There is a catch, in order to go back you must watch these clips of the future, and before anybody asks, no, they are not visions. These are genuine records of what would happen in your future had I not brought you here. However, due to my interference, these events are able to be altered.

I cannot make you do anything, however, my hope is that one of you can be saved from a fate worse than death, one that person is already going through.

My next objective is to stop some of you from getting hurt or worse. Two of you die within the next few months, I hope to stop that from happening.

Everyone looks around at each other, who dies? How? Why?

I also hope to smooth some relationships, repair a few others, and make some new ones, or strengthen them more to how they would have formed.

Finally, did I mention that fate worse than death? I need you all to keep an open mind, especially when it comes to that moment, and to not lose yourself in this mystery, all will be explained at some point.

Now, I must apologize for something else as well, specifically to you Wednesday.

Everyone looks at the girl reading, who is obviously surprised. She looks up at everyone as she quickly cools her face back into her mask. Her parents are worried, and most of the other kids are too, well both worried and intrigued.

These future clips will follow you, highlighting things you might want to keep to yourself or with a select few, highlighting things you may not even know yourself.

Wednesday stops reading at this point to look at everyone else again, finding them looking at her in contemplation for most of the adults or wide eyed from most of the teenagers.

Now, if everyone could take a seat according to the chart below, we can get started and hopefully get you out of here and back as soon as possible, with more knowledge and the ability to change these events.

Wednesday quickly reads the seat chart, saying everyone's names as she points to each chair.

In the back row is Gomez, Morticia, Weems, and Sheriff Galpin

The middle row is Kent, Divina, Yoko, Bianca, Xavier, and Eugene

The front row is Ajax, Enid, Wednesday, and Tyler.

Thing is allowed to choose who he sits with, though Gomez points to his daughter, wanting a family member closer to her rather than two rows back and Thing quickly follows the half order, climbing up to rest on the chair by the girl’s shoulder.

After Wednesday points everyone else to their seats, she goes to put the paper down when a new sentence is at the bottom starting with DON'T READ THIS OUT LOUD.

Keep an open mind when it comes to Tyler specifically, he will need you more than you think he will. This is an order. I know you won’t like it but you will understand after most of these recordings.

Wednesday is highly uncomfortable with this demand. Who is this boy and why does he need to rely on HER specifically. She guesses he is conventionally attractive enough for any other girl in here, so why not ask one of them! She resigned herself to it though, not seeing another option available.

READ THIS PART OUT LOUD: For the Sheriff, you are not to arrest anybody, you are not to make smart assed comments about outcasts, and you are not to dismiss your son.

Everyone looks at the sheriff who is almost pouting in his corner. His son, Tyler, apparently, is almost smug at the last demand.

For the adults in the room as a whole, you are not allowed to punish anything these kids do or have done that you learn about from these recordings.

The Nevermore teenagers collectively exhale. That was a good rule for them. Weems nods her head understandingly, she knows how much she got away with in school and while it might be her job, she isn’t ALWAYS the hard ass everyone thinks she is.

For the teenagers, don’t jump the gun and blame everyone for everything before knowing the full story, just sit tight and wait it out, you’ll understand eventually.

The kids give each other weary looks, not prepared for that demand but willing to follow it to the best of their ability.

I know tensions will run high during this, that is to be expected and understandable based on some of the information we will find out, but again keep an open mind and let's get started.

Oh! Also, refreshments will be provided at the whims of myself, if you request something I could probably do it after the first “episode,” for lack of a better word, there will be a buffet laid out for you to pick at during the rest of the episodes.

Also, halfway through this watching session,  rooms will be provided to your liking for you to sleep in. Take advantage of this because this will be both emotionally draining and adrenaline inducing.

Be prepared for gore and graphic imagery as well.

That's it. This paper will remain in here for reference, please use it as much as you need to. Enjoy the clips!

Wednesday finishes the note, wanting a glass of water after all that talking, that is probably the most she has ever said at one time. At the same time as she is thinking that, and returning the note to the table, a glass of water appears in front of her. She looks at it questioningly, wondering if it is poisoned, she decides to drink it anyway because she has quite a tolerance for most common poisons now anyway.

She turns to face everyone and makes her way to her seat with all of their eyes on her. She sits with a straight back, her head held high, looking unafraid of what is ahead of her. Exactly the mask she needs to retain through this entire torture.

And not the fun kind.
