Born To Die.

Summary:

“Hey mate, come on out. It’s just me now, I don’t bite” What the fuck. What the fuck. Who the actual fuck did this dude think he was? Did he really expect for Tommy to trust a fucking stranger!? Hell no! Stranger danger mother fucker!

The stranger waited for Tommy to come out, sighing when he didn’t. Tommy felt like this person sighs a lot, it’s nice to know he has that effect on people.

------------

Tommy never thought that he would have to survive through a zombie apocalypse. In the end, he was kind of right.

Chapter Text

“* REDACTED 1* you need to stop. You know damn well this isn’t going to end well.”

*REDACTED 1* scoffs but doesn’t respond, too focused on mixing a formula. *REDACTED 2* began to get upset, mad that the other wasn’t listening.

“Listen to me right now. If you don’t fucking stop, you are going to start something that should never fucking exist.” *REDACTED 2* pauses for a second before continuing.

“You will be the reason the world ends. Listen to me. You do not want to be the reason the world ends.”  Hope began to leave *REDACTED 2*’s eyes when he got no response.  “ Please.  Listen to me” Silence was the only response he received.

*REDACTED 2* went silent, fear causing him to give up on convincing his once close friend to stop his idiotic plan. Eventually the only sounds that filled the room were clinks from glass vials and some psychotic muttering.

Guilt began to fill *REDACTED 2*’s head. Even though he knew he couldn’t stop him, not physically or mentally, maybe that’s why it hurt so much. Because he knew he did everything he could to prevent it, yet the world was still going to end.

All because he was too much of a coward.

5 Months Later…..

Tommy let out a strangled groan as his stomach rumbled for the third time that day, it was beginning to hurt at this point. He was dreading the moment he wouldn’t be able to hold out anymore, because it meant leaving his shelter for food.

Two days ago, Tommy ate his last jar of peanut butter. He began to regret not being more resourceful with his food, even though he did the best he could. It took a few months for him to adapt to no longer eating three meals a day and instead eating non-perishable food every 4-5 days. At this point he was skin and bones , which did not help the fact that he had to leave his safe haven to find food soon.

Tommy shivered as another wave of hunger coursed through his body, he carefully hugged his stomach as he curled his body in as much as he could.

Eventually, Tommy sat up and sighed. He knew he couldn’t wait any longer, he had to have some strength for his supply run and if he waited any longer, He may have none left.

Tommy stood up and began slowly walking to the living room, he needed to grab his bat and bag before he could leave. Which usually was easy for him since it was just a room away except for the fact that every few steps, Tommy would stop to groan or wince before taking a second before he could continue, causing him to take longer than usual.

When Tommy finally arrived in the living room, he flopped on the couch, trying to catch his breath. He knew he wouldn’t survive if he went outside like this, he would get eaten by a zombie, immediately . Tommy shivered; he did not want to know what it would be like to be eaten alive.

After a few minutes he came up with a plan, he was going to chug around two cups of water so that his body would be tricked into thinking that he’s eaten food and would last until he found actual food. Though he would still have to be careful since the water wasn’t fucking God , he was still skin and bones. He would still have to be careful as to not run into any hordes.

He hopes luck is on his side today, if not then hopefully something was.

Tommy sighed quietly, he had been searching for nearly an hour now and still he’s found no food! Were people really that selfish that they couldn’t leave behind one can of beans! ONE

Tommy sighed a second time; he knew he shouldn’t be judging. Food has become scarcer since nobody’s restocking grocery stores or restaurants, two of the very few places' people can find food. He knew that if he found food at all , he wouldn’t leave any behind either.

Tommy continued to walk, keeping quiet to make sure he stayed aware of his surroundings.

A groan fills the silence.

Tommy froze, not only because another wave of hunger surged through his body, but also because that groan didn't come from him and it definitely did not sound human.

It took Tommy a second before he realized he should run and find a place to hide. Unfortunately, it was a second too late as he got pushed over by a screeching zombie, one that partially smelled like a… rotten cupcake?

Tommy didn’t have any time to think of a snarky remark before he felt a slimy mouth bite his arm. He let out a blood curdling scream, forgetting his previous plan of being quiet. He quickly began throwing his arm around to try and throw the zombie off. He grabbed his bat with his free hand and whacked the zombie's head, causing the zombie to let go.

Tommy ran in a random direction as fast as he could, not really thinking about where he was going, only about getting to a safe place. Dread filled Tommy’s body when he rounded a corner and came face to face with a horde of zombies. Tommy turned to run back the way he came only to once again come face to face with a horde of zombies.

‘Where the fuck did, they come from!?’ Tommy thought as he stood in a defensive position, readying his bat to smack in any direction.

He definitely wasn’t ready to hear a gunshot.

Chapter Text

Tommy’s eyes widened from shock; his confusion only increased as more gunshots were heard. Tommy was tempted to look around to see who the mysterious shooter was but decided against it, he needed to run.

This time he remembered to not let fear overtake his mind and made sure to confirm there were no zombies in the direction he was running towards.

After a few minutes of running Tommy spots an old office building, he smirks as he pushes the front door open and runs in. Though his smirk fades away as he stands still, realizing that he has no place to hide.

‘Damn It’ He thought, why the fuck did he not think this through?

Tommy’s eyes widened when he heard footsteps, more specifically multiple footsteps. As in multiple people, Tommy’s breathing quickened. Oh God, Oh God, They were going to kill him.

Tommy began quickly searching the first floor, he was about to give up hope before he spotted a bathroom. Tommy’s face scrunched from disgust as soon as he opened the bathroom door, it smelled like mold was covering every fucking possible surface. Tommy gagged, trying his best to not throw up. God, he hoped he didn’t get any diseases from this. That’s even more embarrassing than getting beat to death by some strangers.

Tommy softly muttered curse words as he walked down the row of stalls. Fuck! He should have just stayed home and slowly starved to death. He swung open the last stall’s door and locked it, he gagged as he carefully stepped onto the toilet. He winced as he nearly lost his balance off the toilet seat, causing a quiet clink. Tommy took deep breaths, trying not to cry. God, he better not cry in front of these people, at that point he would just beat himself up.

He shuts his eyes tight when the bathroom door slams open, not enough to shake the wall but enough to make a loud bang. Tommy forced himself not to flinch, loud footsteps echoed through the room as the stranger began to make their way towards him. He could tell they were checking stalls by the squeaks that followed after every few footsteps. Tommy began shaking, he flinched as the stall door next to him slammed. He gulped, he opened his eyes and looked down to the gap under the door. Fear pulsed in his body as he watched a pair of boots stop right in front of the gap.

He heard the stranger attempt to push the stall door open, pausing when it just made a rattle noise.

“Kid? You in there?”

Tommy stayed silent, hoping that the stranger would just go away. The stranger sighed, “PHIL! I FOUND HIM!”

Tommy’s heart dropped at the mention of more people, he was tempted to run while he still could. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the chance as not even 2 minutes later he heard the bathroom door slam open.

Tommy’s mind went blank for a second, he could faintly tell that the strangers were talking. He just couldn’t tell if they were talking to him.

Breath In

Breath Out

Breath In

Breath Out

Breath- “KID! Are you even listening!?”

Tommy was snapped from his thoughts, he winced as he accidently rattled the toilet seat. Freezing when the strangers stopped talking. He gulped, one of the strangers sighed and whispered something. It must have been for the others to leave because not even a second later he heard the bathroom door open and footsteps fading away.

“Look mate, I promise we just want to help you” It was silent for a second before a click was heard. The stranger’s face lit up when Tommy’s head popped out from behind the door.

Tommy hesitated a moment before fully emerging from the stall, they both stood quietly observing each other for a minute before Tommy interrupted it by booking it out of the bathroom. Tommy smirked as he heard the stranger yelling after him, he let out a soft victory laugh before running straight into a wall.

Tommy yelped as he fell back, feeling himself get dizzy from the rough impact. Tommy blinked as he tried to get himself to snap out of it, feeling something warm run down the bottom half of his face. Did he break his nose? Tommy didn’t know and honestly was too out of it to care. Black dots filled his vision as he let himself slump down on the hard floor. Maybe he should take a nap? That sounded good, maybe it will clear his head ache? Tommy sighed as he let himself drift off into sleep, forgetting his previous worries.

Chapter Text

“Toms! You want hot chocolate?” Yelled a young male voice from the kitchen. Tommy pretended to think about it for a second before grinning and yelling out a reply.

“Yea! Can I have marshmallows too?” Tommy’s grin widened when he didn’t get a reply, only a laugh. He knew that meant yes, it always did.

Tommy giggled when he caught a glance at the faces his mom made as she carefully constructed the last part of the pillow fort. She always took pillow forts seriously, Tommy never knew why, maybe it was comforting for her? Tommy knew cuddling his stuffed cow, Henry always comforted him, so maybe it was the same for her?

Tommy’s thoughts were interrupted when his mom let out a victory cheer, she leaned down and began to crawl into the pillow fort. She paused and turned to him with a grin, she beckoned for him to follow before continuing her previous action. Tommy let out an excited gasp as he leaned down quickly to follow.

Once fully inside, Tommy sat crisscrossed in a back corner to the left of the entrance. His mom quietly pulled down a blanket from the top of the entrance to serve as a door. Tommy giggled excitedly as his mom sat next him, allowing Tommy to lean on her in a comfortable position.

“Are you going to sing me another lullaby?” Tommy asked in a hushed voice, from the way he spoke it almost seemed like he was discussing a secret with his mom. One that was kept safe in their private pillow fort, his mom softly smiled at him. “Of course, hun-” His mom stopped to think for a second before continuing. “How about I sing you a song my mother used to sing to me when I was your age?” Tommy excitedly nodded his head in agreement. In his opinion, songs made by his Grandma were always entertaining and special.

His mother took a breath and softly began to sing,

Wolves asleep amidst the trees

Bats all a swaying in the breeze

But one soul lies anxious wide awake

Fearing all manner of ghouls, hags and wraiths

For your dolly Polly sleep has flown

Don't dare let her tremble alone

For the witcher, heartless, cold

Paid in coin of gold

He comes he'll go leave naught behind

But heartache and woe

Deep, deep woe

Birds are silent for the night

Cows turned in as daylight dies

But one soul lies anxious wide awake

Fearing all manner of ghouls, hags and wraiths

My dear dolly Polly shut your eyes

Lie still, lie silent, utter no cries

As the witcher, brave and bold

Paid in coin of gold

He'll chop and slice you

Cut and dice you

Eat you up whole

Eat you whole

Tommy yawned as he felt his eyes begin to feel heavy, his mother quietly stroked his hair as he let himself fall into the darkness.

Letting it wrap around him like a blanket on a cold winter night.

Tommy drew his eyebrows together in confusion as he sat up, he was on a mattress in an unfamiliar room. He turned his head to the side and felt hope as his eyes landed on a door. But like every other time he’s felt hope, it was quickly crushed by the sound of footsteps echoing in his direction. FUCK!

Tommy felt himself begin to panic, he took a deep breath to calm his fast beating heart before pretending to be asleep. He forces himself not to freeze when the door opens, trying to let his breath even out. The door thumped shut as the footsteps decreased, before it went completely quiet.

A sigh filled the silence and Tommy knew he was fucked . “Kid, cut the act. I know you’re awake, I just wanna talk.” Tommy continued to pretend to sleep, he was not in the mood to talk to some creepy guy who’s kidnapped him!

The room was quiet for a few minutes before the door creaked open and the man’s footsteps could be heard stepping out of the room. Once he could no longer hear the footsteps, Tommy took a deep breath, he sat up and made it his first priority to check his bloodied nose and make sure it wasn’t broken.

Once he was sure his nose was perfectly fine (besides being incredibly sore) He made it his new first priority to get out of this place and clearly the door wasn’t going to work, his eyes scanned the room hoping to maybe find a window or vent, something . Tommy’s eyes landed on a small bookcase, it was bare, only occupying five books. But that was enough to grab Tommy’s attention. He quietly stood up and walked towards the bookcase, careful as to not make any sound.

Tommy grabbed the first book in his reach and wiped off the thin layer of dust, he admired the beautiful design before reading the large title, The Tale of Theseus . Tommy took a quick look at what the other books were before deciding that The Tale of Theseus was the most interesting and headed back to his sad mattress.

Tommy sat down and flipped to the front page, he felt his heart sink. In neat handwriting was a note from the previous owner.

To my beloved Charles,

I hope you love & cherish this book, the same way you loved & cherished me.

- Edith

Part of Tommy hoped they were both alive, but the other part knew better.

Tommy flipped to the next page and began to read the story, he felt a wave of Deja Vu hit him before realizing his mother once read this story to him. He smiled sadly, he missed when his mom used to read him stories before bed, when she would do a unique voice for each character. He missed when she would take him on trips, just the two of them, where they would buy ice cream and eat them on the beach, or where they would go to the local arcade and play for hours until they would win their dream prizes. He missed those days.

Tommy’s smile fell.

He missed his mom.

Tommy snapped out of it, nearly dropping the book from his hands. He sat in silence for a second before continuing reading.

Silence once again fills the room except for the occasional paper being flipped, it took about an hour before Tommy finally finished the book. He wasn’t surprised to find he really enjoyed it, The Tale of Theseus was always his favorite story growing up.

Tommy sat awkwardly quiet on his mattress, he didn’t really account for what he would do when he finished the book. He looked around before a thought suddenly came to him, where the fuck was his stuff?

Tommy began to panic, his breath became quicker, he began to shake, tears were rolling down his face, and his pupils became dilated. His bag was gone and he had no idea if the damn strangers took it or- or if they threw it out

Tommy paused as a horrible realization came to his mind.

Henry was in his bag.

Fuck.

Fuck.

Fuck .

GOD DAMN IT .

FUCK.

He began to feel light headed, he needed to lay down for a second.

He passed out as soon as his head hit the mattress.

“That little shit looks so scrawny, I mean he’s basically a twig! and yet he was so fucking heavy !” Wilbur complained.

Techno rolled his eyes at his twin’s words, “Stop complaining, you only had to hold him for five minutes while I grabbed supplies, besides he wasn’t even heavy.”

Wilbur gasped as he narrowed his eyes at Techno; offended that his twin would dare imply that he was weak . The room goes quiet, the two boys focusing their attention to restocking the supply bags.

Wilbur glanced at his brother, his mouth in a thin line and his eyebrows drawn together. His hands stop their previous task and instead hold his body up as he leans on the table. Techno’s eyes glances at him before focusing back on the supply bag, “What’s wrong?”

Wilbur stared at him with a confused expression, “what? Nothing’s wrong Tech” Techno scoffed. “ Don’t lie. You’re doing that face.”

Wilbur’s face scrunched up; confused and unsure if he should be offended or not. Techno rolled his eyes, “There’s a face that you always do whenever somethings troubling you…or when you’re constipated.” Wilbur glared at him, “That is not true !” Techno raised an eyebrow, “ Oh really? Ask Dad then.” he replied before turning back to his previous task.

Wilbur let out a defeated huff and leaned back while crossing his arms, almost in a pouting position. His face softened and he sighed, “ Fine . I’m just wondering..how the hell has this kid survived this long?”

Techno shrugged before replying, “Adrenaline probably.”

Wilbur was quiet for a moment, “I wonder where his parents are.” Techno didn’t reply.

They both knew the answer.

The silence was interrupted by a door creaking open, both Wilbur and Techno lifted their heads to face the new figure.

Phil sat down in the only free chair left, the other two already being occupied by his sons. He sighed and brushed his hands down his face in defeat. The twins gave each other a knowing look, they knew the boy wouldn’t talk. Nobody would after they’ve been kidnapped and held against their will in a room. Phil was just too…. Phil to see it.

The boys watched as their dad put on a weary smile, “Alright boys, looks like our guest is going to be with us a little longer than expected”

Wilbur rolled his eyes, “Dad we can’t keep some stranger hostage and besides we don’t have enough supplies to take care of a fourth person!”

Techno sat quietly, continuing to do his tasks. He didn’t have an opinion on the stranger and he knew better than to interrupt his family while they were having an argument. That’s how you get dragged into things and Techno was not in the mood.

Phil’s smile strained, “I wasn’t asking Wil. He is going to be staying a little while longer, as for food we can just give him our scraps until he is able to come with us on supply runs. Do I make myself clear?”

He looked at both of his sons, making sure there was no more disagreement. There wasn’t. “Good. Now if you excuse me, I’ll be heading off to bed.”

Phil stood up and began walking towards his room, Wil glared after him.

The room was once again quiet, the boys having gone back to their tasks.

Phil’s smile fell as he closed the door and sighed, he wished Kristen was here. She would know what to do and how to keep the peace. She always did.

Tommy yawned and stretched his body out against the mattress. What time was it? He wondered,  he looked up and saw rays of sunlight peeking through the barricaded windows. Tommy popped the right side of his neck then popped the left side before noticing a tray of food in front of the door. Tommy stared at it confused, did the strangers leave it there?

His mouth formed a straight line as he began to contemplate whether he should eat the food or not. It could be poisoned or taste like shit. But on the other hand, he hadn’t eaten in days . Tommy’s contemplation ended when his stomach let out a loud growl , pain shot through his body and he rushed towards the food. He didn’t hesitate to shove the sandwich crusts into his mouth and chew as fast as he could.

He swallowed the clump and waited for a moment to see if he was about to die. As well as for the pain to go away, whichever came first. Luckily, the pain subdued and Tommy did not die.

He hesitantly grabbed the metal cup of water on the tray. As soon as a drop hit his tongue all of his dehydration came full force and he began gulping down the water in large portions. He knew he probably looked like a idiot, shoving food into his mouth like his life depended on it (Even though it does)

Tommy gasped for air as he finally let himself breathe after devouring everything on the tray.  He sat back down on his mattress, satisfied, before thoughts began to fill his mind. Where was he?

Yeah, obviously he’s had that thought before, who wouldn’t when they’ve been kidnapped . But the difference this time is it’s the only thing on his mind, Tommy looked around the room. He was looking for which boarded window the sunlight coming through, this would tell him where a hole was and where he can see the outside.

Finally, his eyes rested on a small circular hole carved into a boarded window on the other side of the room. Tommy stands up and walks towards the hole, before realizing half way that it was too high. Anxiety began to fill his chest as he looked around, he was so close to getting some answers, he can’t let his height get in the way now!

Relief replaced the anxiety when he remembered the books on the shelf, he quickly grabbed the four remaining books and began to stack them in front of the window. He stepped on the small tower, only pausing when it began to slightly wobble before continuing his previous task.

Tommy smiled and let out a soft victory cheer as he finally became face to face with the hole, his smile fell. He unfortunately knew where he was and that wasn’t good. He was in an Hotel in Emerald City, he knew because he recognized some of the other buildings. His father had taken him and his family on vacation here once, grief built up in his stomach again.

Tommy stepped down from the books, a fearful expression now sitting on his face. Emerald City was almost seven hours away from his house.

How fucking long has it been since he was kidnapped?
