Chapter 1: Four Turtles and a Rat

Chapter Text

Hamato Yoshi sat in an old abandoned house. He was slowly getting over the shock of the last few weeks.

First things first, he needed to make sure the turtle spirits were okay. He checked on them, still fast asleep in the box he found. He sighed, then looked at a picture of his beloved.

So much happened over the last couple of days. And it all started when he got overconfident with the spirits. Yoshi has always been an excellent bender and a master ninja. But what he took most pride in, was his connection to the spirit world.

Most ninjas train for years to even get a glimpse into the other plain. And yet for Yoshi, it came as easy as walking.

He took a lot of pride in this skill, and over time, became too confident with it. One afternoon, he was meditating, trying to enter the spirit world. He didn’t think he would get in, but he did.

He was excited and went exploring immediately. But it was a mistake. He found himself in a cruel spirit domain, the Rat King.

They didn’t like that a mortal got into their home. They had smiled uncomfortably a smile meant to make you shiver. They had called him out and cursed him. He was then pushed out of the spirit world and found his body in a world of pain.

The Rat King had cursed his soul, his body, to become a rat. But Yoshi wasn’t going down without a fight, he used all his knowledge of spirits and all his willpower to fight against the Rat King.

It was enough for them to be impressed, and give a small amount of mercy, but it was still a curse.

Yoshi had woken up as a humanoid rat, with the senses and advantages of a rat, with his human traits and brain. It took him a few hours to get used to his new body before he went home.

He couldn’t lie to his beloved.

He will never do that.

Teng Shen, of course, was startled when he came, but she realized it was her love and accepted him just as fast.

He got into trouble with his sensei about angering a pantheon.

He couldn’t reverse it, so he grew to live with being a rat, It wasn’t too hard, especially with his loving wife, but it was still terrible he couldn’t do all of what he was used to doing.

It was only a week later, that his brother in all but blood attacked. He was shouting revenge and slaughtered the Hamato clan. He and Saki fought to the death, but his beloved daughter and wife were the only ones who died in their battle.

He had woken up to a burnt-down dojo and their home.

He grabbed what he could and escaped before anyone came and saw him.

People are not used to seeing spirits or anything abnormal, but seeing him wouldn’t be so different. He had travelled far away from his home, needing to grieve without Saki’s interruption.

He was hiding close to a town, the only way for him to get food or anything, luckily he had grabbed some clothes that survived the fire and taken other essentials he needed.

He was getting ready to fish for some food, when he saw a man, in a cloak, being cruel to four baby turtles.

He didn’t know what happened all he knew was that he felt rage at this man for hurting innocent creatures so young.

He attacked, and the man was shocked to see a giant rat fight him but shook off the shock like a well-trained warrior. They fought until Yoshi was able to get to the turtles to help them, when the man, an alchemist, threw a potion on them.

That’s when he noticed an image of a spirit there, it looked like they were trying to help. He never took a spirit for granted, when one shows up, it's an omen, whether good or bad.

Whatever was in that potion, spilled all over Yoshi and the turtles as he held them. He felt power search through him and the turtles and the spirit yanked back, apologizing profoundly before disappearing.

Yoshi gave one last glare at the man and ran with the turtles.

He found himself back at the small hideout he had. He watched in shock as the turtles grew in size until they were about the size of newborn babies, and they all started to cry.

He had picked them up by reflex and shushed them. It all felt painfully familiar when his daughter was still alive as he rocked them and cooed softly until they relaxed.

It was only a month after the burning of his home, and now he had four, spiritual, human-turtle babies to watch over. That spirit had apologized to the turtles. It was a sign, that these turtles would be destined for great things. He can just sense it.

He had something new, something to live for. So he takes them in. It’s not as easy as it seems though. Once they weren’t sleeping, they were all over the place, four rowdy boys to look after.

But he wasn’t about to give up, nope, he would watch them and care for them the best he could do in hiding. People aren’t used to spirits; he was afraid people would hurt his sons if he went out in the open.

So, for now, he would stay hidden, in this abandoned house in a high-spirited forest.

Once he got to know them, he named them.

Leonardo, for the oldest, kept a close they on their brothers.

Raphael for the second oldest seemed to be a wild one.

Donatello, an intelligent one, is already mimicking his language.

And Michelangelo for the youngest, seems to like physical touch.

He would protect them and raise them as his sons, of the Hamato Clan.

Chapter 2: Republic City

Summary:

Splinter finds a place for the Turtles to go and call a home.

Chapter Text

He started to train them in ninjutsu when they were the age of five, but that is also the time they discovered they had bending.

He was in for a shock when his youngest, Michelangelo was an air-bender.

Everyone knows of the story of the air nomads, they were killed by the fire nation.

With their ninja training, he did his best to help them with their bending training.

The Hamato clan had a mix of many benders and skills, he knew a thing or two about bending, but it became apparent they needed to find masters to help them.

Splinter may be much but he can’t teach all of them in different arts he’s not used to, all he could do was help them control the element enough that they don’t hurt each other.

“Alright my sons, we are going on a pilgrim to find you all bending masters” he told his sons.

They all cheered “I’m going to find the best fire-bending master of all!” Raph exclaimed. “You don’t even know where to find one,” Donnie said.

“Like you’re going to find a better one!”

“My sons, please” Splinter got his bag ready “Everyone have everything?” he asked.

“Yes Chichi!” they all had their travelling poncho hoods and bags on.

“Right, now remember, stay close, stay hidden and don’t air-bend Michael,” he told his youngest.

He didn’t want any attention to them that theirs another air-bender around.

“I won’t!” Mikey promised.

He nodded and walked out of their home for five years, they could find a better one where they were going.

They travelled for a day and a half, Splinter taking in gossip and conversations. He didn’t want to be separated from his sons or to travel to the four corners of the globe. He was hoping to find at least two masters in one area.

He was savaging for food, his sons in a field nearby.

When he heard chatter. “I heard the Avatar and fire Lord Zuko have started helping in building a city, for all kinds of benders and non-benders”

“You really think it will work?”

“We are in peace after thousands of years of war, I want to believe it will last”

Splinter had asked them where the city was and they helped him locate it on a map.

He came back to their camp, to find Leo trying to stop Raph from burning the tent, as Donatello teased the hothead about his terrible fire control.

“I’ll show you terrible fire control!!” He tried once again to break free from Leo and blast at Donnie who was hiding behind the tent, Mikey was watching a butterfly, ignoring his brothers.

“Raphael please stop! We can’t afford another burnt tent!” Leo yelled.

“I don’t care! Donnie! You aren’t better at controlling yourself!!”

Donnie froze before glaring “I’m getting better! Just yesterday I could move a pebble!”

Raph pushed Leo away, but didn’t move to attack “Yeah, one lousy pebble!” Raph’s fists lit up when Splinter stepped up.

“Raphael!” he yelled. Raph stopped with a yelp, turning to his father.

“Donatello, Raphael, both of you stop bullying each other about your element control, you both have just received your powers, it’s going to take time to train and get used to it” he lectured.

Raph grumbled with his arms crossed while Donnie looked to the side with a scowl.

“I am getting better…” he mumbled. Raph kicked the ground “It’s hard to control the flames…”

“I know, and both of you need to support each other if you are to go without a master,” he told them. “You will stop mocking each other, healthy teasing to boost each other up, but no bullying” he said giving them a stern look.

“Hai chichi”

Mikey got up from the ground, the butterfly now on his head, and now Splinter could see it was some kind of spirit

He ignored it for now.

“Now, you two can gather some firewood together while I, Leonardo and Michelangelo get started on dinner, and I have some good news to share once we are eating,” he said.

The two nodded, excited for the news before running off to the trees to find wood to use.

Splinter took out some of the food he found: rare fish, beef, and old but still good fruit. “You think we can make some cooked fruit?” Miley asked excited for food.

“Maybe, we are going to need some herbs, why don’t you and your brother look for some that will go well with our choices tonight?” he asked.

Leo took Mikey’s hand while he saluted “We will find the best herbs!” they then ran off to the forest floor, a different direction from their brothers “Remember not to go too far, and to remember how to get back!” Splinter yelled after them “We will Daddy!” Mikey waved still holding Leo’s hand.

Splinter smiled leaning comfortably on the ground.

He thought over his sons with a smile, before taking out a knife and starting to cut the meat.

Mikey looked on the forest floor for any herbs to use. Leo kept an eye on his brother while looking.

Mikey smiled when the butterfly from earlier floated over to a shrub of some kind when some kind of plant spirit opened its eyes “Hmm? What you want sonny?” they asked.

“We are looking for herbs,” Mikey told them. Leo looked at what Mikey was talking about and saw a blur of something but that’s it. “Did you wake a spirit little brother?” he asked.

“Oops, sorry if I woke you mister spirit,” he told the herb spirit.

“No worries young one, you looking for herbs? What for?” they asked. “For fish!” Mikey smiled standing up from kneeling. “Well, my herbs are the best for fish, taste great when grilled” they said.

“Thank you, Mister Spirit!”

“Anything to help another spirit” they smiled. They gathered the herb and Leo tried to commune with the spirit, only hearing a word or two from them.

They helped the young Kappa find different herbs and told Leo about them all and what they could do “That one can help with healing, here, let me call my friend” Leo, with the help of Mikey, was now able to see the spirit, but it still took a lot of concertation, so the spirit just showed themselves to help the kid out.

Mikey could see spirits even when hiding or could at least sniff them out, more naturally than their father.

Spirits are also drawn to the small family of turtles and rat.

The two spent a bit with the two plant spirits, teaching the two about herbs and dangerous plants before they had to leave.

They both said goodbye and returned to their camp. Mikey followed the butterfly, Leo using his tracking skills, even if he was still a novice at it.

Raph and Donnie had returned and the two were laughing together. “You guys made up quickly” Leo smiled running over.

Leo gave the herbs to Splinter.

“We came across a deer while looking,” Donnie told them excitedly. “No way!” Leo and Mikey's mouth gapped.

“Yup, it was a strong stag, and they let us touch him,” Raph said. “That’s so cool!” Mikey grinned.

Leo decided not to mention they ran into not one but two spirits.

Mikey joined their father in making their meal, only doing small tasks as Splinter didn’t want Mikey to hurt himself with anything too big. They all talked as they cooked though.

They spoke of their training, of their elements, guessing who would teach them their bending. Of games they could play.

And soon, they had some grilled fish and mushed-up fruits.

They all sat around the fire to eat.

They all thanked Splinter and Mikey for the food and complimented the young turtle on the food.

As they ate, Splinter got their attention “The news I have, is we might have a lead to a place, where we can, hopefully, find two masters for you four, so we don’t have to travel far lengths to find a bending master” he told them. “Where?” Donnie asked.

“Republic City, a city where benders and non-benders live, I heard the Avatar is helping around there, so it will be safe,” he told them.

The four only knew a few stories of the Avatar, from their father, and some storytellers they come across sometimes.

“Yay!” Mikey cheered. Leo and Raph smiled while Donnie asked all about the city.

When food was finished Donnie was tasked with cleaning the dishes, Leo and Raph got the tent ready for sleeping while Mikey looked out for any predators.

They gathered around the fire once more to calm for the night, but it was nothing but calm.

Mikey had broken out in song he heard from a passing town, starting to sing it over the fire.

Raph had given his brother a beat, while Donnie and Leo watched happily. Splinter smiled at his cheerful children, all having a good time.

They were only five a new so much. He realized that it was not normal, but he had four humanoid turtles and himself being a rat.

Replies do mature faster, as they are left alone at birth, turtles, and are put into the dangerous world, Splinter was able to do some research on turtles through the five years.

So it made sense they’d be a bit more mature than normal human babies.

They were still kids though, they needed to enjoy life to the fullest, even in secret.

Chapter 3: The Weirdo Assassins

Summary:

Splinter is late from scavenging, so the boys get worried, break one of the important rules their father set for them, and go into town looking for him.

Chapter Text

They set out in the morning. Ready with their bags, and cloaks.

Mikey, on the way, found a ferret spirit, they wouldn’t leave him alone, Splinter theorized the spirit liked Mikey’s energy, however, the likely reason is that Mikey made friends with it.

They were in the Earth Kingdom already, but finding a master who would accept any of his sons, would be a challenge. He hoped they would find someone to help his boys, there’s only so much he can do with the knowledge he has on the other elements.

Walking through the forest, Splinter made sure they were on the right path.

It would take a few days to arrive in Republic City. And in those days, they could enjoy themselves and train in ninjutsu before they had to study their bending.

He walked in the front, leading his sons through the forest, knowing his sons would keep an eye on each other, Leonard and Donatello to make sure they don’t run off or get too distracted.

But it didn’t seem that would be a problem.

Donatello kept asking questions about the things around them, his curious son, Michelangelo and Raphael were playing a game, from a stranger's view, it looked like Raphael was chasing the youngest out of anger, but it was a part of the game.

Michelangelo would tease Raphael and run away, Raphael would chase him yelling angrily with a smile.

And his Eldest, Leonardo was walking calmly next to him, listening to him explain to Donnie what cartography is.

As Donnie asked another question, Leo listening, Splinter paused all action by stiffening his neck, his ears up and moving towards sounds, his tail guiding Mikey and Raph closer to him.

Leo’s eyes were sharp as he tried to find the danger his father heard.

“Hide my sons, in the shadows, blend in your environment,” he told them. They all nodded and ran to hide.

Mikey and his ferret went into a bush, Leo went behind a tree, Raph climbed a tree and Donnie ducked behind a fallen log, being small enough.

Coming through the forest were people in Fire Nation clothes. They seemed to just be taking a walk, no danger, just exposure.

They all stayed silent and still until the two left. Splinter came out, making a head out of his son “Excellent work my sons, a ninja must be silent and still” he smiled. They all smiled brightly and bowed to their sensei. They continued their way, Mikey and Raph speaking highly of their skills of hiding, Leo and Donnie joining in at some point.

Splinter smiled as they walked.

-=-

“Alright my sons, practise your kata’s while I go into town, keep your stances firm and strong, and have patience, if I’m not back when you’re done, practice with your weapons” he instructed his sons.

“Hai Sensei!” they all bowed.

Leo got them all to practise their kata’s, with only minimal fooling around. When finished, they went over their weapons, Mikey only hitting his head once with his nunchaku.

“Dad isn’t back yet” Donnie mumbled looking over to the town. Raph stabbed the air “You think he’s okay?” Mikey asked as Leo used wobbly water bending to ‘cool’ his bruise. “He’s fine, dads a master ninja, of course, he’s fine” Raph said doing another sai kata.

Donnie leaned against his Bo, thinking. “We should go into town,” he said suddenly. Leo stood so fast “What do you mean Donatello?” he asked calmly. Donnie gulped as Raph stepped back a bit.

“I’m just saying, Father might be in trouble, we should go and check if he’s fine” he said. “As Raphael said, Father is fine, he’s a master"

“I know I know, I don’t doubt fathers skill, but I don’t like this town, there could be something wrong” Mikey petted his ferret friend “Not that I want to pick sides, but this town does have an off feeling to it”

Leo sighed, he too was feeling something wrong with the town “But dad said we have to stay out of sight”

“And we will, were ninja, we can sneak in and find Dad,” Donnie said. “We’ve barely had much sneaking around training Don,” Raph said impassively. “But we have! We can test our skills, come on guys” he said. Mikey stood next to Don, looking at Leo with big eyes.

Leo sighed “Fine, but, we wear our cloaks the whole time,” he said pointing at them. “Of course, we aren’t armatures Leo” Raph grinned.

Leo pouted at him.

“Let’s go, but be careful, we don’t need to be seen” Leo said. They all got their cloaks, and Leo left a message in case they missed their father coming back. Making their way to the town was easy, but once they got to the start of the town, many people were buzzing around.

“Stay in the shadows, out of sight, and out of the way, if you find yourself seen or unable to hide, blend in, and don’t panic,” Leo said his father’s words.

“We know Leo” Raph groaned.

“I’d think you’d need a reminder Raph, did you see the last lesson of hiding training? I could see you from where I was” Donnie snickered.

“Why you-!” Raph growled turning to Donnie. “No fighting, we are around the public, we don’t need to direct attention to us”

“Those are some big words Leo” Mikey gave a freckled smile. Leo smiled proudly “I have been reading some of Dad’s books”

“Whatever, let’s go” Raph dashed forward, going behind the market stalls, staying close to the wall of houses and into an alleyway. Mikey followed after Donnie. Leo made sure no one was looking before going after his brothers.

The alley was nothing that impressive, but Donnie looked through some of the crates that were there “Seems like these crates hold old things, maybe from the houses or stores, they don’t use these that much” He said.

It was mostly rope and wood, most likely to make stalls, some other crates held some blankets and nails.

“This one looks a bit empty” Mikey mentioned “You're right,” Donnie gasped “Dad must have gone through here, he must have taken some blankets” he smiled.

“So we are on the right path, let’s keep moving” Leo nodded.

They moved to the next alley with no incident. Looking through the crates, finding nothing out of place, move on.

They all paused, hiding by a stall, a little out in the open, but as long as they stayed quiet and still they’d be fine. They stopped because of a carriage moving past them.

“That’s a big thing,” Mikey said. “It’s a carriage, dad told me about them, and some of his stories have them in it” Donnie explained. “I know that Don, it just looks bigger than the others” “Now that you say it, it does look a little fancy” Raph hummed.

They ignored it for now, and when the chance came, went under the carriage as it stopped by their side. “Okay, we are going to have to be quick to get to the other side, we go one at a time not to draw attention” Leo said.

They all nodded.

Mikey went first, going so fast, all their brothers saw was a shadow. His little ferret friend hopping at the same speed.

Mikey disappeared by some crates. Leo nodded to Raph, who rolled his eyes, before taking off. He wasn’t as fast as Mikey but was able to keep unnoticed.

Donnie went next, zig-zagging to the other side of the crates.

Leo took a breath before taking off himself.

“I think that building is a library, daddy might have gone there to look for books” Mikey said. Leo nodded and they made their way over to it, keeping their hoods over their faces.

Looking through the books, they found it was disturbed, meaning their father was there. “Looks like dad missed this” Donnie said holding up some science book.

Leo held the hardcover book tightly. “What you got there Nardo?” Raph came up next to him. “It’s a book about water-bending pirates,” he said. “Whole, that looks cool” Raph looked at the cover.

“Maybe when I’m done reading it I’ll let you borrow it” he grinned.

They searched a little more, Mikey finding some empty notebooks, when they heard footsteps coming towards them.

“To the roof” Leo whispered. Leo then grabbed Mikey and helped them up to the roof. Raph and Donnie dashing behind some crates.

Two humans walked into the alleyway, they wore similar clothes to them, cloaks that hid their faces.

Mikey put the books in his bag as Leo watched. “What are they doing?” he whispered. “I’m not sure”

They didn’t know much about humans, other than their father, though he wasn’t human anymore, so they’re not sure how humans behave or react to things.

They watched as the two humans sneaked to the opening of the alley, watching intensely at the fancy carriage.

Leo gazed and lingered at the two before he realized something “Their assassins” he said. “Like ninja?” Mikey asked. “In a way yes, they’re going to kill someone” he said.

Mikey looked away with a whimper, never liking violence or the word kill.

Leo hugged them, and saw Donnie peek his head over, seeing the two humans, they made eye contact. They needed to get out of here.

“It’s an in-and-out job, kill the rich asshole, and leave,” one human said.  The other nodded.

Before anyone could do anything, Mikey moved close to the edge, and smiled innocently at Leo, before jumping down. “Mikey?!” Leo shouted in shock.

Mikey landed on the one human's shoulders and covered their eyes, Raph jumped out from where he was and tripped the other. Donnie peaked over the crate and held his Bo ready, Leo sighed and jumped down.

“Get off me kid!” they tried to grab Mikey, but they moved to stand on their shoulders and kicked off them, letting them fall onto their partner, and into the open space.

People around move away with a scream of fright. Guards that were around saw them and immediately grabbed them.

The turtles ran away, into the forest.

-

Splinter came back to their little camp, it was late in the night, the sun setting when he did.

He didn’t mean to stay out this long, but with the arrival of some lord, more guards were around, people in general, and of course assassins, Splinter had run into at least two while he was savaging.

He had heard when looking for food, two assassins got caught, but he thought his ears were deceiving him, as they said four kids took them down.

He didn’t think about it too long.

It took him at least an hour or so to move around and come back to the camp.

He smiled as he found his sons going over each other’s weapons. He wanted his sons to be well versed in many different weapons forms, not only their own.

“Hello my sons, I am back” he walked. “Daddy!!” Mikey ran towards him, doing a run and jumping to hug him. Splinter caught him joyfully, laughing.

“Hello, Michelangelo” He let his youngest climb up him and hold onto his torso.

“Father! Your back” Leo bowed respectfully before hugging him “Yes, I apologize for being out so late, there were a lot of people around” he said.

That’s when Splinter notices their tense posture, mostly in Leo, and a bag that seems to be hiding a book. “My sons…did you go into the town?” he asked.

Leo froze, Raph tried to be nonchalant, while Mikey started to play with his ferret friend and Donnie went back to practising with Leo’s swords.

He sighed “My sons, I know you are curious about the humans, but they’re not ready for you, or you ready for them” he said.

Leo cracked first “We know Sensei! But you were gone for so long, we were worried” he glanced over to Donnie, who finished his kata with the sword “And we were a little curious” he confessed.

Splinter put them together and nodded. “For disobeying my rules, you all will be training all day, for the next few days” he said.

They all groaned, but Donnie was staring at Leo doubtfully.

“Alright my sons, let’s get some dinner going”

Donnie kept the stare up as they worked on the fire and sleeping arrangements.

-

Donnie was able to catch Leo alone by a small stream. “Why didn’t you just tell Chichi I was the one that convinced everyone to go?” he asked.

Leo hummed “Whatever do you mean?” he smiled. “We all went, so we are all in trouble”

Donnie looked up at his older brother and smiled.

Notes:

I wonder who these assassins are. :D

Chapter 4: Water Fun

Summary:

Their journey is still ongoing, they meet a friendly human for the first time! And do some water training.

Chapter Text

The family made their way close to a path. Splinter made sure his sons were following, he couldn’t help but frown when two of his sons were behind.

“Raphael, Donatello!” he called. The two seemed to be arguing a lot more these past two days, he’s unsure why.

“Shut up Donnie!” Raph yelled. Donnie smirked. “Why should I? It’s the truth”

Raph growled, “You know it’s not!” Donnie stuck his tongue out “You can’t prove me wrong!” “I can and will!” Raph did a stance, and Splinter could see things going wrong. “My sons!” he said louder, startling the two stragglers.

“Please refrain from using your bending, we are very close to the pathway,” he told them.

Mikey snickered from behind Splinter, Leo giving a curious look at the two.

Raph crossed his arms, and Donnie gave a grin at the hot head. Raph glared at him.

“Come” he made sure they walked in front of him.

As they walked, Splinter kept an eye on the two, they didn’t need them breaking into a fight again. The two have the most trouble controlling their bending, and that can be catastrophic.

As it came to night, Splinter looked around for a place to camp. “Are you lost?” They all jumped, “Oh sorry for spooking you”

Splinter turned to see an old man, in Fire Nation clothing. He had a warm smile and his eyes showed kindness. Splinter relaxed, but Raphael and Leonardo didn’t.

“Relax my sons,” Splinter said calmly. “Hello little ones” the man smiled at them, Michelangelo was the only one to wave.

“Are you setting camp?” he asked. “Yes, we are, sorry to bother you,” Splinter said. “No need, I was just passing through, you don’t mind if I share your fire? I can make a great tea?” he offered.

Splinter could tell this man had no ill intent, but he still needed to be careful “Of course,”

They got to work on making their camp. Now with a guest. His boys were respectful if not wary of the human. Splinter realized this was the first human they’d ever talked to.

Once the fire was going and the tent was up, Splinter quickly made a meal, some cooked fish, and their guest made some tea. “Thank you, it’s been a while since I’ve had tea” Splinter took long respectable sips.

He’s missed tea. “Please, have as much as you can, I couldn’t live without tea” the man gave a light-hearted laugh. He peered down “Hello” he saw that Mikey was staring at him “You’re a human right?” he asked. “Why yes I am”

“You’re the first human we’ve spoken to,” Donnie said. “Really?” the man seemed shocked. Splinter smiled. “Daddy said humans won’t react well to us,” Leo said.

“That is true, some won’t react as I did, if I may ask, what spirits you are?” he asked Raphael. “We are Turtle spirits” he grumbled.

The man laughed “I can tell that, you remind me of my nephew” he gave a hearty smile. He poured Splinter another cup, and he encouraged his sons to try the tea.

They all had different reactions. Leonardo seemed to like it, Michelangelo drank it but didn’t have a second cup. Donatello didn’t like the taste, but when the man said there are stronger flavours, said he would try again someday. Raphael didn’t like it, period.

The man spoke of his nephew a lot, with some adventures he’s been on.

His sons took his tales with excitement and interest. Splinter also listened, and when they went to sleep, the two talked deeply about spirits. They parted ways in the morning, and Splinter knew this would not be the last time they saw the man.

-=-

It was a nice, sunny day and on their travels, they came to an enclosed area of water. Splinter knew this would be a good place to train his sons in the water and to see how strong their lungs were.

“Okay my sons, let’s set camp here for the next few days” he told them. They were growing up so fast.

They helped set camp and Splinter got them to line up. “Today, we are going to do water-training” he told them “But we're not water-benders Chichi” Donnie said.

“Yeah, this is all for Leo” Raph grinned at said turtle “Yes, your brother is a water-bender, but, there are more ways to train in water” he informed them.

Mikey let his ferret friend run off “How?” Donnie asked thinking about it. “Well, how to sneak in water without making a sound, to fight without slipping, and to hold your breath if needed be” he explained.

“Like a turtle?” Donnie smiled, getting excited ‘Yes, we will be testing your lung capacity as turtle spirits” he took them to the water.

They started on warm-up laps. They made it a race as they got into their second lap. Splinter smiled amused as Raph and Leo argued over Leo using his water-bending to cheat.

They then did some simple techniques to keep silent in the water. After learning ten, he couldn’t keep his son's focus. So He let them play in the water until he could get their minds on training again.

He watched as he got lunch prepared.

Leo and Raph were playing fighting, while Mikey and Donnie played some kind of game. Before they all were dragged into play fighting.

“Come on Don! You can hit harder than that!” Raph taunted “You want hard huh?!” Donnie tackled Raph and they went under with a splash.

Leo tried to knock Mikey, but the air-bender was too agile and kept his hold on the oldest shell. “I am a leech, you’ll never get rid of me!!!” Mikey laughed manically.

Leo laughed before going underwater. Where they struggled.

Raph and Donnie up laughing, they nodded to each other then worked together to take out Leo and Mikey.

“Boys lunch!” Splinter called.

They all came running, Mikey jumping off Raph’s shoulders, causing him to give chase, and Leo and Donnie running after the two.

They sat with their father to eat. “Once we eat, we will go overcome breathing exercises, then meditation” he said. “Hai sensei!” they ate their food and talked about games they could play in the water

Chapter 5: Searching for Home

Summary:

They have finally arrived at the city, time to find a home.

Chapter Text

After a few more weeks of traveling, they finally made it to the city.

“Wow” Donnie stared in awe, they all stared awe.

“Alright my sons, we will find a home somewhere in the city, it must be hidden from many and away from others” he told them. They all nodded. Staying close to their father, they went into the city, and went searching for a home.

They spent most of the day looking for any openings for a home, abandoned homes or area’s with no one. There wasn’t much, as a lot of the places were crowded. It was only at nightfall, when they found the man-hole, a way into some king of system of water.

They walked freely there, as there was no one around. “This place seems perfect” Mikey smiled. “A lot of tunnels” Donnie looked around.

“We will find a home here, my sons, I can feel it”

As they walked through the systems, Mikey stopped waking all of a sudden. “Mikey?” Raph noticed first. “There’s something here” he said.

He walked closer to the water. Splinter could sense a spiritual presents “Be on your feet my sons” he said. The spirit didn’t feel evil, but they could change their minds fast if needed be. Something huge came out from the water. Splinter stood in front of his sons to protect them, but Mikey didn’t move from where he was by the water.

“Mikey! Get back here!” Raph yelled.

“Why you guys scared!” Mikey smiled, running over to the Alligator. “Hi!” He waved.

“Hello little one…” The Gator spirits voice was deep and scratchy. “I am not here to hurt you” they said.

Splinter calmed, before bowing “Why have you come here?” he asked.

“I live here, follow me” They monitored their finger.

Mikey happily followed after, while his brothers stayed away. They followed the Alligator spirit in the tunnels, coming to an alcove by a wall. It opened and what revealed to them was a garden and many different spirits all over the place.

“You may stay here for the night, fellow spirits, I can lead you to a place you can call home in the morning” The gator said.

Splinter bowed once again “Thank you Spirit”

Mikey was already looking around, greeting other spirits. Splinter walked with some other spirits, all welcoming to them, as the four turtle tots stayed together.

“You four are just so precious, you don’t get many new born kappa” a frog spirit said. “Thank you ma’am” Leo said respectfully. “You are safe here for as long as you stay, though, it looks like Leatherhead has taken a liking to you” another spirit said.

Mikey was petting Leatherhead “He’s just a big softy” Raph grumbled and crossed his arms.

“Protect” Leatherhead mumbled before picking Mikey up. “Mine to protect” he said. “Oh!” the frog grinned “congratulations buddy! You found your guardian!” they clapped. “Guardian?! What’s going on!?” Raph yelled. “Relax my son” Splinter came over, followed by an old looking tree spirit.

“Leatherhead is a guardian spirit, most spirits don’t have that kind of job, and most go with life not protecting anything, but a few the one they’re meant to protect” the tree explained.

Mikey hugged Leatherheads head. They all gathered around and the spirits housed them and fed them some food, all vegetarian, which they didn’t mind.

“Do you know if there are any bending masters in this city?” Splinter asked.

“A few I think, some come and go”

Splinter thanked them. Once dinner was gone, they all took out their sleeping bags to sleep. Mikey had curled around Leatherhead and his ferret, sleeping together.

In the morning, Leatherhead showed them to a hidden area. “Humans covered it up without knowing it was there, it’s the best place to live” they said.

“Thank you” Splinter bowed.

“I will be going now, but I’ll never be far” Leatherhead patted Mikey’s head, who in turn patted his own, he then dived into the water, disappearing.

“Alright my sons, let’s make our home”

Chapter 6: Raph's Fire-bending Master

Summary:

Raph gets frustrated with not getting anything right with his bending and hurts Mikey. He finds a Fire-bending master to teach him how to fire-bend.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

It only taken a week to get their new home livable.

Using what they had, to make a pit to sleep in. Leo and Donnie, working together to get clean water. Mikey made the place homey and Raph helped their father clean up.

The place was looking like a home and the small family was happy to have one. They still did an hour of training in both ninjutsu and bending. Splinter doing his best to help his sons with the knowledge he knew of all the elements.

“Keep your form Leonardo, face straight Donatello, stand firm Raphael, Michelangelo stay focus” he instructed them all as they worked on their bending.

Splinter had no idea what to do for his youngest, since asking the Avatar himself was out of the questions. He knew he would help, but he didn’t want to draw attention to them.

Ever though going to ask a bending master to teach his sons are drawing enough attention already.

He would rather not, and find another way, like observation, that’s how they first started to learn, but they seemed more powerful than a normal bender, they’ll need a master to help. Raph growled as he tried to do a fire-bending move, only getting nothing, he snarled once more and did it again, just this time too much power and fire went everywhere.

Mikey screamed and ducked, Leo tried to use his water to protect himself and Donnie, but Donnie did the same thing, making an earth wall, only it only served to trip Leo.

Raph stopped the attack and stood panting, scorch marks all around him. “Raphael, you have to calm yourself” Splinter said.

“But-I didn’t mean to do this!” he looked scared at the mess. Mikey held his arm, his ferret friend sniff his hand, licking at it. “Mikey are you hurt?” Leo ran over. Raph stared in deep shock as Leo coax Mikey to show his hand, but it was his whole arm that was burned.

Leo got to work immediately, taking the fresh water and began to heal, as much as he could with what his father has taught him. Donnie ran off to find the medical things they had and Splinter tried to calm Mikey.

He was quiet, staring at the ground, eyes as small as a pin, breaking irregularly. “He’s in shock”

Donnie came back just as Leo finished all he could do. While they fussed over Mikey, Raph escaped the scene.

He ran through the sewers, not caring where he was going. He sneaked out, into the city. It was only late afternoon as he made his way out of the city and into a forest nearby.

“I have to control, get control” he breathed. He yelled out when he couldn’t calm down.

He screamed and destroyed everything around him in his rage. When he snapped out of it, he looked sadly around him, from all the destruction. “Why am I like this” he whimpered.

He sat down with his head in his knees. And started to sob.

He flinched when something touch his leg. He looked up and stared into the face of a tortoise.

“Hi?” he said unsure. The tortoise tapped him again. “What you want? If you want food you’ll have to go somewhere else, don’t have any” he huffed.

The tortoise ignored him and sat next to him. “Am I in your favourite basking spot?” Raph did feel relaxed with the sun on his scales. “Sorry, I’ll move now” he rubbed his eyes, but the tortoise just rubbed his leg.

All of a sudden, Raph felt calm, all the rage he was feeling and the scared feeling disappeared, the guilt stayed but looking at the tortoise, he could tell. “I should go home and apologize to Mikey…” he smiled at the tortoise, “Thanks, for calming me I guess” he said a bit awkwardly.

He picked them up and the tortoise seemed fine with being carried. Raph sneaking made his way back home. Holding the tortoise the whole way, he could tell they were a spirit.

Once he got home, he saw Donnie sitting by their makeshift bedroom, just an area on the floor with blankets and pillows in a pit. “Dad and Leo went looking for you” Donnie said without looking up from his book. Raph stared at Mikey’s sleeping form.

“Is he okay?” he asked, coming closer. “He’s fine, just exhausted, it will take a bit for him to heal though” he said.

Raph sat down, putting the tortoise down. Donnie raised an eye at it but didn’t say anything. “He’ll be fine?”

“Yes, Leo’s getting better at healing, no matter what he thinks, Mikey just must be careful not to touch the burn too much”

“You know, I found a forest close to the city, doesn't look like many people go there…could be a nice place to practice, so we aren’t so close to each other”

Donnie looked up “Sounds nice, we can talk to dad about when he returns” he said. Raph nodded and patted the tortoise on the head. “I think their name is Spike,” Raph said. “If you are wrong they can bite you later, hope it bleeds” Donnie said with a smirk. Raph grinned “Oh yea? Maybe they like me so much they’ll bite you more” they both laughed.

-=-

After discovering the forest, they go there to train, sometimes together, sometimes, and alone. Today, Raph was getting frustrated again and left the training lesson to the beach, more to the cliff side though, out of the way, and away from trees and grass.

He tried to get his breathing under control. It was the most important with fire-bending, breathing.

Fire Lord Zuko, was taking a break from all the meeting the council was having, deciding to go on a walk alone. He’d never would have guessed he’d run into a spirit turtle trying to get their breathing right.

He could see in their stance, they were a fire-bender, even for a giant turtle. He didn’t want to think too much on it.

Zuko decided to watch them, he’s had bad luck with spirits, and he didn’t want to provoke them by accident. He watched as the short turtle shouted out in anger and blasted a tree. Then proceed to panic and try to take the fire away, but mess that up and spread the fire.

Zuko couldn’t watch anymore. He jumped down to them “Here like this” he does a stance, the turtle looks startle to see him but quickly copy’s what he’s doing. “You have to feel the rhythm and extend yourself to the flame” he instructed.

The turtle took a breath and did as he said they moved instinct and got rid of the fire.

The turtle grinned, looking at their hands “That was amazing! I’ve never gotten that much control over my flames!” they look at Zuko with bright eyes. Zuko was surprised by how young they sounded, which is obvious with how short they were “Can you be my teacher!” they then got on the floor and kowtowed “Please! I am in heavy need for a master!”

“Okay, okay,” Zuko blushed “I will train you” he smiled. They looked up, still smiling brightly. “I am Raphael!” he stood.

“Zuko, if you don’t mind me asking, Raphael, what are you?” he asked.

“My dad says I am a kappa spirit, but also half human, it’s complicated” they grinned “Let’s get started on fire-bending!”

Zuko smiled “how old are you? Before we get started”

“I am Seven, the same as my brothers!”

“Right, now the key to fire bending, is your control and emotions”

-

Raph and Zuko trained for the rest of the afternoon, they lost track of time, and it was only Splinter looking for Raph and stumbling on them training did they realized it was sunset.

“Raphael” he called. Raph turned “Dad!” he yelled and ran over to him. Zuko started in shock at the giant rat.  “It seems you found a master” Splinter smiled at his son “I did! And it’s the fire lord! He’s already taught me so much daddy!”

“That’s good, but your brothers are worried, especially Michelangelo”

Raph noticed the sun “Oh no! He’s probably driving Leo and Don up a wall” he chuckled “I’ll go and tell them I’m fine” he went to run but then turned back to Zuko, and bowed “Master Zuko! Can we please meet here tomorrow to train some more!?” he asked.

“Of course, I’ll be here early, right when the Sun rises” he told his, now student. “Hai!” and he ran off.

Zuko gave an uneasy look to Splinter.

“Relax yourself, Fire Lord” Splinter said, using his cane to walk forward “I was just worried for my son” he looked the Lord in the soul. “I need to make sure, that you will keep my family a secret, not many humans are this accepting to spirits, even unusual hybrid as my sons, or myself” he told.

“I promise I won’t tell anyone, even the avatar, and I’m use to unusual things happening to me” he smiled “you don’t have to worry, I promise on my honor” he bowed. Splinter bowed back “Your uncle talked about you” he grinned. Zuko looked up at him “Uncle Iron?” he asked.

But Splinter was walking away “We can make a schedule another day, thank you for training my son” he bowed once again before going to find his mischievous sons.

“I can’t believe you found a master before me!” Donnie yelled. “Congrats Raphie!” Mikey clapped. Leo went over a water-bending move “Yes, congratulations Raph”

Donnie crossed his arms pouting.

“My sons, lets return home, we have to go over your homework before dinner” he said.

“Coming daddy!” Mikey had Raph carry him until they got to the city, while Donnie and Leo went over their homework.

Chapter 7: Leo is kidnapped by Water, Part 1

Summary:

It's time for Leo's master to come!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Leo stood by the beach, close to where the forest where they train.

Taking a breath, he started to do the wave movement, trying to make waves, a beginner’s move to master. So far, he was doing well, but he wanted to do better.

He was focused, he could feel the water and hear the waves. He needed to get this, it was easy, it was so easy to do, and it was beginners work!

He huffed and sat on the sand frustrated. He watched the waves come and go. Everything about the view was peaceful. The noise from the city ruined it though, he could see some of the air pollution from where he sat, and even with people cleaning the metal from the beach, there was still things on the beach.

Sighing, Leo put his head in his arms. He sat like that, listening and thinking.

He was startled out of his mind when something splashed him. He jumped into a defense stance, but only slipped back on his bum. He looked around alarmed, but saw no one.

“Hello?” he called. Nothing but the ocean and birds.

He slowly stood looking around cautiously. He felt a presence, something was here. He walked closer to the ocean, walking into the sea water when the waves came onto the sand. He looked around once more, but saw nothing.

Leo hummed to himself. He felt the sea water on his feet and he looked down. He always felt nice for him and his brothers to swim, fresh or salt water.

The same with taking naps in the sun. Maybe they should have a beach day soon. Thinking it over, Leo made his way back to the others.

-

“I’m having trouble with bending, sensei, it’s like, and something is blocking me or something”

Splinter hummed, thinking to what he and some of the spirits discuss earlier today. “The Ocean has been restless, it started when you and your sons arrived” the frog spirit said. Splinter put his cup down “is it something to be worried about?” he asked.

“Not at all, just means the ocean spirit has finally chosen a student!” they cheered “It’s most likely Leonardo, such a sweet boy”

Splinter hummed “They won’t do anything to hurt him would they?” he had to make sure, nobody knows much about the ocean spirit. Other say they represented a koi fish in the Southern Water tribe. It is said that the ocean spirit is everywhere where the ocean or water resides.

“I’m sure they won’t, but your son has to be ready for the training” they warmed. Splinter nodded.

Back in the room with his son, Splinter stroked his beard “if something is blocking your chi, it’s best to meditate on it, surrounded by your element”

Leo thought it over “I might stay out for a day or two” he said. “That is alright my son, as long as you look after yourself, and return home” he smiled.

Leo smiled back, he then joined his brother in their game of tag.

-

The next day, Leo built a raft to take out into the shore, not wanting to go too far, but still surrounded by water. He stood on his little raft and did water-katas.

He concentrated, feeling the aura, hearing the waves, the wind.

He did at least two kata’s, when he felt a presence again. He opened his eyes to look around. “Who’s there?” he knew someone was there, he just couldn’t figure out who, or what.

Waves became stronger, pushing against his little raft. “Whoa!” Leo nearly fell, getting his balance quickly. But the waves haven’t stopped yet. He tried to control the water to get back to the beach, or at least keep still, but the water refused to listen to him. “Come on!” he tried to force it, but that only got the water rougher, and soon, he was hitting the water.

They all had good lungs, having trained a little with how long they could hold their breaths for. Training to hold it for an hour or more.

So Leo wasn’t afraid of drowning once he hit the water, what he was afraid of, was that the water around him felt like it was holding him, like the water pressure took hold.

Before he knew it, he shot off under the water like a speed boat. The water pressure was too much, he couldn’t keep his eyes open.

But he couldn’t panic, even with his heart pounding his chest. Remember sensei’s training. Blowing water out from his nose, he made a circle motion with his arms, only barley stopping the water’s full pressure on him.

At least he could see what was happening.

He did it just in time too. First speed ahead of Leo, was a rock, an island.

Screaming under water is not advised.

Leo thought fast, panicking again, as he tried to move the water to dodge the island. He didn’t have to thought, the water shot to the side, avoiding the island for him.

He couldn’t breathe. He held his breath for as long as he could. He tried once again to control the water, but it was too strong, too much pressure. Suddenly he shot to the surface. He took a breath, while screaming. “Wait, wait!” he attempted to bend the water again, but once again, it didn’t work.

He submerge under the water again and shot off like a rocket.

Accepting his fate at this moment, Leo did the circle trick again, so he could see, and hopefully stop the water from going into his nose. He couldn’t let whatever this was though, from kidnapping him.

So he fought, fighting the current, the water, the waves, and each step he could go.

Now and then, he would be shot out of the water, to breath, it seemed whoever kidnapped him didn’t want him dead.

He only realized it was night time, when he was shot out, and the stars were out. He’d been traveling for the whole day. He thought in cold shock.

That snapped him back into fighting.

Before falling into the water, he froze the water over, landing hard on the frozen water. He coughed, and hacked.

Throwing up some water he ingested.

He coughed up some more water before clearing his throat, it hurt, but at least the water was out. He looked around, then started into the water.

He watched, astonished at the water raised up around him. Moving in the air until coming all together in front of him. It shaped into a giant koi fish.

He could feel the spiritual energy all around him. It was strong, and powerful, this was no ordinary spirit. Before he knew it, he was bowing, face on the ice, his whole body shaking from the cold, and the power.

The Koi swam around him, raw energy and water lifted his head to look and Leo understood who, and what the spirit wanted.

They were the Ocean Spirit, and they were going to train him, they have chosen him as their student.

He bow again “I will be honored to be your student” he said, a little hoarsely from the coughing. The Koi swam a full circle before diving back into the water.

Leo stared a little in shock. He was snapped back when the ice around him started to crack. And that was all the warning he got before he was dragged under the water again.

He was shot off like a rocket again. As he made a protective circle around him, ‘this will be a long and difficult’ he thought.

-

Leo wasn’t sure how long he was being forced through the water like a bullet, but he was getting sick of it.

He was shot of the water to breath, yes, but he wasn’t given a break, and it was taking longer for the ocean to give him a change to breath.

He had to figure out this training or he will fail, and he didn’t want to fail the ocean. Leo has already tried to fight the ocean, to break free from their hold, but that wasn’t working.

So he had to do something else.

As he thought about it a giant iceberg appeared in front of him. Screaming under the water. What to do?! It didn’t look like the ocean was going to avoid it like with all the islands they passed.

A test...

Leo’s eyes hardened and he gritted his teeth, putting his hands out, and using every force he had to move the ice-berg, or break it.

He closed his eyes as he got closer. He felt, something, and something cracked. He opened his eyes to see the iceberg gone, and he going through it where it once was.

Smiling, Leo thought against the ocean’s hold once again, finally breaking out of it, using the currents instead of force.

He stopped in the middle of the ocean, he tried to swim up, but now the ocean kept him down. Knowing he would drown, Leo quickly made an air bubble. He gasped “What are you doing?!” he asked the ocean.

But the waves kept pushing him down. Getting the memo he began to swim downwards.

The deeper he went, the more pressure he felt. He could feel the crushing pressure of it.

But the ocean didn’t let up, hoping he wouldn’t die like this, he controlled the water currents help him down. He felt the pressure disappear when he accepted the water.

Soon, he found himself at the bottom, coral, seaweed, and rocks scattered all around him. HE stood on the ocean floor before swimming forward. The ocean stopped pushing him, but understood, they wanted him to train with the nature of the ocean, or the sea life, and spirits.

He could already feel the high energy in his area.

He felt at peace and calm.

He gasped, when he saw a spirit whale, seeing the markings on its skin. He swam up to them, and touched their snout. The whale sang and Leo smiled.

He stayed a bit with the whale, eating clams and a few sea fruit that some helpful spirits lead him to.

He was resting on his new whale friend, when they started to swim up to the surface. When they resurface he noticed it was night-time. Which had him think of how long he was under there for.

He also notice he didn’t have to use his air bubble that often. Meaning he was training his lungs to be able to stay under the water longer! He grew excited at the idea.

“Hello Leonardo” Leo flinched at the voice and turned to see the Moon full and bright, and there, floating above the water, was a beautiful woman.

He immediately knew this was the Moon spirit. He bowed. “Moon Spirit Yue” he said. She smiled “I see you taking La’s training well”.

Leo grimace “I would have liked a warning before they had taken me from the beach” he said. “The Ocean, has a bit of a sense of humor” Yue titled her head with a side grin.

Leo crossed his arms “Well they have a terrible sense of humor for an old grand-spirit” water sprayed into Leo’s face.

He sputtered “Well you are!!” he yelled at the water, and the giant Koi appeared again, using their tail to splash Leo again, but Leo diverged the water away from him.

“Your training me! Remember! I can fight your mystic water!” Leo pointed, only to be splashed form behind.

Leo stared at the koi defeated and blankly.

Yue chuckled. “I am glad you are doing well, Leonardo, not many can handle La’s training” she said. Leo smiled, bowing to her “I am honored to be trained by them, even with their, humor” he glared at the koi, who somehow looked smug.

“Well, I bid you good luck on your journey” Yue then disappeared, and the Moon was covered by clouds. Leo looked a little longer at the sky before sitting down again.

“So what now?” he asked the koi.

It seemed Leo was very unlucky, or asked terrible questions, because he was dragged back into the water, and even with Leo fighting it to at least say goodbye to his whale friend, couldn’t stop the Ocean from taking him through the waters again.

-

Leo was spat out of the water, landing in cold, very cold snow.

His teeth were chattering.

He had felt the water changed temperature at least a few days ago, but now sopping wet in the cold air and snow, made him freeze. Being cold blooded didn’t help at all.

He quickly water-bended the water off him “What am I doing in the Pole?!” he yelled at the ocean, but the ocean didn’t answer back, their whole spiritual energy fading.

Leo glared “You’re leaving now!? You take me across the world to train me and now you leave me alone!!?” he yelled, kicking the snow.

He shivered, hugging himself tighter, the water rippled “Fine! I’ll go more in land so you don’t take me again!” he yelled and stomped away.

He walked away from the water, making his way inland.

Looking for anything to make a fire with or to get warm. His father had warned him and his brothers, to not stay cold for too long, they could trigger a hibernation, especially under extreme temperature.

He shivered again, his blue eyes squinting through the snow. When did it start snowing?

He blinked again, his eyes heavy. He shook his head “no! Stay away” he slurred.

He stumbled, nearly tripping but he caught himself. He continued to trek through the snow.

But the longer he walked, the harder it was to stay awake. He blinked once again, before falling face first into the snow, not getting up.

Chapter 8: Leo is kidnapped by Water, Part 2

Summary:

Leo finds out where the ocean took him, and finds out how long he's been at sea.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Pakku was not expecting to run into anything through his walk. Especially not a passed out nearly dying spirit turtle.

He looked down at them. They were breathing slowly. Seeing this as an Omen, whether good or bad, he will find out once he helps the spirit.

He got to his hut easily, putting the turtle in front of the fire and bundled them up with blankets.

Kanna, didn’t like that there was someone in her hut, but didn’t stop her husband from bringing them in, seeing as they were dying.

It took as least a day for them to wake.

Leo was startled awake. He sat up and looking around an in panic, “calm young spirit, your safe” he turned to see an old man.

He noticed he was in some kind of hut, made of ice, there was a fire. Fire!? He was warm. He looked at the man “Did-did you save me?” he asked. “Yes, I did, you were freezing to death just outside the city” the man said. Leo sucked in a breath.

He took the blankets off and bowed to the man, head on the floor “I am in dept to you! Thank you!” he said.

“Please, no need, I’m Pakku, retired water-bending master” he said. Leo sat straight “Water-bending master!?” he asked excited, seeing why the ocean dropped him off here. He kowtowed again “Please! Teach me!” he yelled. “What’s with all the yelling” Leo turned to see an old woman come in with a steaming bowl of something amazing.

“Our guest is awake Kanna dear” Pakku said. “I can see that, get off the floor before you indent it with your face” she glared.

Leo blushed and moved to sit on his knees. “Sorry” he nods his head in a bow. “Here, eat this” she gave him the bowl. “It’s octopus soup” she said. “Thank you” he bowed again. He ate it with vigor “This is so good!” he cried; he teared up. “You, okay?” Pakku asked concerned and confused.

“Sorry” he wiped his tears “it’s just I’ve been dragged through the ocean, eating only fruit and cold seaweed, I haven’t had anything warm since getting kidnapped by the ocean” he said eating another gulp.

“Kidnapped by the ocean?” Pakku asked confused. Leo nodded, accepting another bowl from Kanna. “Yes, the Ocean Spirit, choice me as their student, I’ve been at sea for, I don’t know how long”

Pakku looked at him in shock “But you’re so young”

“I’m only seven” Leo grumbled. He had one more bowl before he thanked Kanna for the meal. “You eat just like my grandson” she smiled.

Leo smiled, before turning to Pakku “please teach me!” he asked. “But you were trained by the ocean”

Leo sat up and looked deeply at the floor “I was, and I learned much, of how water moves, how the energy is used. But they couldn’t teach me katas, or moves, so please! I’ll find a way to repay you, I swear!”

Pakku sighed “Fine, I’ll teach you” he smiled. Leo beamed brightly.

“Thank you!

-

His time in Kanna and Pakku’s home, was an experience.

Leo learned a lot with both elderly couples.

While learning with Pakku, Kanna taught him water-bending culture and customs.

He even asked to learn some recipes.

When two weeks passed, Leo finally found out how long he’s been missing for.

“A Month!!!” he yelled gaped at the paper in shock. “I’ve been missing for a whole month! My brothers!” he cried.

He was wearing a big, furred coat, boots and had a sword on him. Pakku had just given him the newspaper.

“I have to get home!” he looked at his master.

Pakku nodded “You have learned all I could teach you, Leonardo, get back to your family” he smiled.

Leo hugged him, and Kanna, before leaving with some home cooked meals. “Goodbye! I’ll never forgot your kindness!” he waved as he ran to the shore. “Neither will us” they said watching the turtle disappear. The two were old, their time in this world was going to end soon, their glad to have shared the last few with a young spirit.

Leo came to the shore and jumped. He glided across the water at jet speed, determined to return him quickly.

He skied across the ocean, maneuvering around blocks of ice and islands like second nature.

He just made it out of the South Pole, feeling the temperature, when he felt something coming from below him. He stopped skiing, making a small ice circle around him, just as his whale friend broke the surface.

Leo fell onto the whale’s head with a laugh “I missed you too” he patted his head.

“You going to give me a lift?” he asked. The whale sang and started to swim. Leo stayed seated and looked to the sky with a smile and sang with the whale.

He couldn’t wait to go home and tell his brothers about his adventures.

-

His whale friend gave him a lift halfway, the rest of the way Leo skied on the water. He finally saw land, republic city, it looks like it grew from the last time he was there. Going under the water, he shot off like a bullet to where he was first taken.

He jumps out the water, landing softly before making his way to their little training area, their hide away.

Taking off the furred coat, Leo smiled brightly at seeing his brothers training. He could see, they were downcast. “I’m back!” he yelled.

They all turned to him in shock. “LEO!!!” Mikey was the first to jump up and attack Leo in a hug. Donnie and Raph running over to him.

“Leo, you’ve been gone for so long!-“ Donnie started “I know, I know” Leo grinned, bringing Donnie and Raph into the hug “Just hug me”

They had a group hug together, and Mikey immediately got to asking about where he’s been. Leo was happy to tell them all about his adventures. “No way! The Ocean spirit!?” Mikey asked in disbelief.

Leo nodded “Yes, though they had a terrible sense of humor” he frowned with a glare.

Raph crossed his arms “Still, why did you have to be gone for a mouth”

“They took me all the way to the Southern Tribe, where I met Master Pakku, he taught me water-bending” he smiled.

“Wait, so you had the ocean train you, and a master teach you!?” Raph blew up. Leo grinned.

“Leonardo?” They all turned to see Splinter come up to him “I’m back!” he smiled.

Splinter just sighed in relief and keeled, hugging Leo tight to himself, he then grinned and grabbed everyone into a hug, using his tail to grab Raph, so he wouldn’t escape the affection.

Notes:

You can thank my friend why this training arc is funny. I had gone through many ideas of who would train Leo, when my friend said "Wouldn't it be funny if Leo was trained by the water itself" And this was born.

Chapter 9: Relxing training

Summary:

A break for the boys, in water!

Notes:

This is a short chapter.

Chapter Text

Leo stood on the top of the rocks, ready to dive in. He had a look of focus as he got ready to jump.

They were doing water training like they did every week.

“Come on Leo!” Raph yelled annoyed. Leo gave an irritated look “Let me do my thing Raph!” he yelled.

Raph grinned “Your thing? Is your thing standing on the edge of the rocks until we all become skeletons?”

“NO!” He blushed “I need to do this right” he said. “Right, like you’d screw up a simple dive”

“You’re not any better Raphie, you take your time when we practice our survival skills” Donnie said. “Because I like staying in the outdoors, unlike you” he glared up at the taller turtle.

Donnie just kept growing, getting more taller and smugger with Raph, who doesn’t look to be growing at all.

“Whatever!” Leo jumped off the rock, diving into the water, barely making a sound or splash.

Mikey and Donnie clapped while Raph glared with his arms crossed.

Splinter, who was waiting at the bottom, nodded in approval as Leo resurfaced “Excellent form, Leonardo” he smiled proudly.

Leo climbed out of the water “Thank you sensei”

“Alright, Michelangelo is next!” he yelled up.

Mikey stood from the rock he was sitting on, waving goodbye to some flying spirit he was playing with, before standing by the edge. “Remember Michelangelo! You need to be quiet, no splash, so no air-bombs!” he reminded his youngest.

“Yes Dad- uh I mean sensei!” Mikey jumped right away, making a little bigger splash then Leo, but still silent. Donnie and Leo clapped, Raph doing three then stopping.

“Good work Michelangelo, it was much silent then last practice” Splinter praised.

Mikey whoop and went next to Leo with a smile.

“Donatello!” Splinter called. Donnie went to the edge, and got his stance ready, he had to get the form right, or perfect, or he won’t be as silent as his brothers. Raph grinned and lit a flame, ready to scare his brother. Leo saw this and slowly got the water to travel up, before squirting Raph in the face. Donnie ignored the noise of drowning, nodding to himself before jumping down.

“Able form Donatello” Splinter smiled. Donnie grinned at the praise and bowed.

“Your turn Raphael” Splinter grinned.

Raph was wet from Leo’s attack, and he was glaring at said brother.

He went to the edge, and squatted, before diving. He made the biggest splash out of his brothers, but still was quiet.

“Very good Raphael, you need to work on your falls, so you don’t make that big of a splash” he said.

Raph nodded and climbed out. “Alright, you all may swim under the water to try and breathe your records from last week”

“I’m going to make it an hour!” Mikey grinned. “We will see about that” Raph grinned. They all ran to the water and jumped in.

The bottom of their little training pool had algae, seaweed they sometimes had for dinner, some krill’s, small fish and clams. Mikey was already looking for seashells.

Donnie was observing some fish and plants, Leo meditated, and Raph started doing laps. Splinter waited nearby, taking out a book to read.

Another Relaxing training day.

Chapter 10: Mikey's Air-bending teacher

Summary:

Mikey learns a air instrument and finds his teacher.

Chapter Text

Leo got stronger in his mouth away, leaving Raph to push himself to become stronger, doing extra training with Zuko.

While Mikey and Donnie just did their own thing for the most part.

Donnie had found a book on blacksmithing, mostly on how to make armor. He had indulged into it, reading it front and back, even started making some pieces of armor. Mikey was sitting with Donnie in his workshop, swinging his legs back and forth, when Raph came in.

He didn’t storm in, which was the first since he started his hard-core training. “Hey Mike, Don” Raph smiled at Mikey, then glared a Donnie, who just waved at him without looking away from his work.

“Hey Raphie!” Mikey waved happily. “I’m helping Donnie make armor” he said, showing some of the work he’s done, which was just flattening some metal piece.

“Cool, anyway, I found this while I was training with Sifu Zuko” Raph showed a cream-colored ball with holes. “Lord Zuko said it was a Xun, people make music with it by blowing through here, I thought you’d like it” he smiled.

Mikey stared mesmerized by the instrument “Whoa~” he took the xun and held it. Donnie came over, taking off his goggles “It’s looks like it’s in good condition, where did you get it” he asked.

“What!? Think I stole it?!” Raph accused. “What!? No! It’s just if you found it, it would be in more of a decay kind of state, broke or withered” Donnie’s eyes hardened at him.

Raph crossed his arms “We found it by the beach, with Sifu Zuko’s help and dad, I got it cleaned up” he said. Mikey ignored his two brothers and turned to his ferret friend “You think I could?” he smiled. He brought the instrument to his mouth and played a tune.

Donnie and Raph stopped the bickering to look at Mikey. He looked at the flute, before blowing, and began to play tunes. It was very out of tune, but Mikey was smiling, and that’s all-what Raph needed.

Mikey would play the xun all day if it wasn’t for school and training. Splinter only knew how to play string instruments, but still did his best to help his youngest learn to play the air instrument.

Soon, he was able to make his own songs and mimic songs he’s heard.

He of course drive everyone crazy with it, but they couldn’t help but find the sounds soothing, and just listen to Mikey play it all day. “Alright my sons, we are done for today” Splinter dismissed his sons for today’s training. Mikey put down his nunchucks. Raph stretched before going to Spike.

Leo went the little garden they had going, and Donnie to his workshop. Mikey picked up his xun, and thought about playing it through the lair, but he wanted some fresh air. “Daddy?” he got his father’s attention. “Yes Michelangelo?”

“Can I go outside to play?” he asked. “By yourself?” he made sure. “I’ll be careful I promise, I’ll go to our normal spot in the forest, and play there” he smiled. Splinter thought it over “As long as you stay out of sight and away from the city” he said.

Mikey nodded “Thank you Daddy!” he hugged him tight before running out of the liar.

Splinter sighed, deciding to mediate to keep an eye on his son’s auras. Mikey sneaked out of the city to their little hide away in the forest. They trained there, played there, even had family lunches with Raph’s master, he was fun to play with.

Mikey giggled to himself and started to play his xun.

The tune started softly, rising in song as Mikey started to dance around the area.

He got lost in the song, not noticing he traveled away from the usual area, and closer to the mountains.

He was so lost in his dance and song; he didn’t even notice he was far from home.

“That is amazing”

Mikey screamed and threw his xun at the voice. The person ducked under, and it went flying. “Oh my gosh, I didn’t mean to scare you!” Mikey stared in shock at the person. It was the Avatar, Aang. “I just heard the music,” Aang smiled “Your young for a spirit, are you okay? Are you lost?” he asked.

Mikey smiled up at him “No! Uh?” he looked around “Okay maybe” he couldn’t believe he was meeting the avatar, and another air-bender.

“Here, let me help you find your xun?” Aang offered. “Please, sorry about throwing it at you, it was a gift from my brother, I’m Michelangelo” he spoke fast, excited to meet the avatar. Aang smiled “Nice to meet you Michelangelo”

They made it over to where Mikey threw his xun, “There!” he picked it up. When he looked up, both he and Aang stared mouths open, and eyes open wide.

In front of them, was a herd of Bison? “There are Bison close to republic city?!” Aang said astonished. Mikey beamed “That’s so cool!” he made his way over to them. The parents gave Mikey a huff but left him alone.

“I need to tell the others” Aang said. He bowed to Mikey “It was good to meet you again, Michelangelo, may we meet again” Mikey bowed back “Same to you, Avatar Aang”

Aang opened his glider and took off.

Mikey turned back to the bison “hi, I’m Mikey, you think you can help me?” he asked the bison.

He put his hand out to touch one of them. And they allowed him to. Mikey patted their head with a giggle.

Mikey began to observe and learn, from the flying bison.

He knew his father was having trouble teaching him how to air-bend, and they couldn’t just ask the Avatar to help. They didn’t need that kind of attention on them.

Mikey knew it was for their own good, but it still hurt that he couldn’t get a master like his brothers, or practice like them. There were the air acolytes he could join and learn from, but it was not the same.

So, meeting the flying bison was the next best thing.

He stayed hidden when the avatar came back with his friends, they wouldn’t force the bison out of their home, as they were wild, but he knew they were going to keep an eye on them. So, when they came one time with Zuko. Mikey knew he could ask their honorary uncle to help them.

They were all training by hide out forest, Zuko was there to train Raph, Leo was working on his swordsmanship with Donnie, the two sparring and Mikey was mediating. Splinter knew it could help Mikey in the future to know more about the astral plain, and spirit world.

When they had a break, Mikey went up to Zuko.

“Uncle Zuko?” he rolled on the balls of his feet. Zuko was still getting use to the turtles calling him uncle “Yes Michelangelo?” he smiled.

“You know how Aang found a herd of bison?”

“Yes?”

“Can you tell them they don’t have to worry about them? I can’t learn to air-bend if I must worry about them coming for a surprise visit” he said.

Zuko stared at the little turtle before smiling softy, he patted his head “Of course, I’ll let Aang know I have people keeping an eye on them”

Mikey beamed “Thank you Uncle Zuko!”

And sorry for only mentioning it right now, I am very forgetful, I'll be better.

Chapter Text

Mikey would train with the bison all day, even some spirits started to help him.

Mikey mostly went with instincts when it came to his air-bending, but now watching the bison, knew what to do.

The spirits also helped a lot with teaching him. Mikey made most of his own moves and from what his dad and spirits were able to find with scrolls. Mikey was sitting under a tree, trying to meditate. He knows meditation is important with spirit energy and air-bending. He’s just not very good at it because he can’t focus.

“This is hopeless! How does Leo do it” Mikey pouted.

His ferret friend curled around his neck; they touched Mikey’s cheek with their nose. “You think that will help?” he asked.

The ferret scampered off Mikey’s neck and into the bushes.

Mikey smiled as a few other small spirits showed up. “Having trouble mediating?” a blue jelly fish asked. “Yea, I’ve never been that good at it” he grinned.

“Maybe you need noise to focus” a fluffy shape with horns said. “Maybe…” Mikey thought it over. That’s when his ferret friend came back, holding his xun. “Looks like they had the same idea” the jellyfish giggled.

Mikey closed his eyes again, just as the music started. It seemed the wind picked up, more instruments joined his xun, and Mikey felt his mind clear as he listened to the music.

He felt so at peace, that when a paw touched his arm, he flinched. He opened his eyes, to see tall stalks of plants, the sky different colors, spirits flying around, giant flowers and lush grass.

“Well, I’m not by the mountains anymore” Mikey said to his ferret friend.

“Thank you for helping me” he nuzzled them.

He stood and looked around in astonishment. “This place is so pretty” he began to walk around. Many spirits greeting him, an orange bird like spirit follows him.

“Hello” Mikey greeted a monkey and a green spirit in a mask. “Hello young kappa, what are you doing here?” the monkey asked.

“Exploring” he answered. “And your guardian? I can tell you have one”

“You mean Leatherhead?” Mikey thought. The ferret made a noise and disappeared. “I think they forgot to tell him I’m here, or I did, uh” Mikey smiled sheepishly.

Monkey smiled “You can stay with us until they arrive” she said. “Thank you!” They sat close to her home and met with a daisy that had a face. They had some tea and cake.

“Michelangelo!” Leatherhead ran over, the ferret on his shoulders.

“Leatherhead!” Mikey ran up to him, jumping quite high and hugging him. Leatherhead catches him “You must tell me when you’re going here” he said. “Sorry LH, I didn’t know I was going here today” he grinned.

Leatherhead bowed to the monkey “thank you for watching them”

“Of course, our young need to be protected, and this some seems to get into trouble a lot” she chuckled. “Come on Leatherhead! Let’s explore!” Mikey climbed onto Leatherhead’s shoulders and pointed onwards.

Leatherhead and Mikey said goodbye to the friendly spirits and left to explore a bit.

They went to where Leatherhead lived, met some friendly spirits Mikey made friends with, and talked to some ancient spirits, who told some stories to the little turtle. “We should head back Michelangelo; your father must be worried by now” Leatherhead said. “Right, I need to tell everyone!” Mikey smiled. Saying goodbye to the lemur they were listening to, Mikey sat down and disappeared, Leatherhead and the ferret following.

Mikey blinked and saw that his dad was sitting in front of him “Daddy!” Mikey hugged him. Splinter held him “Michelangelo, where were you?” he asked.

“I was in the spirit world! My spirit friends were helping me mediate!” he beamed.

Splinted looked at Leatherhead “It is true, wise one, Michelangelo went to the spirit world, I went with to protect him” he said.

“It was so cool! There were so many spirits and huge plants!” Mikey went on.

“Why don’t we go home, so you can tell your brothers all about it?”

“You think Leo will be jealous?” he asked. “Most likely yes, but that’s why we share our experiences, to help each other and learn” Splinter smiled at his son.

Safe to say, Leo was defiantly jealous, but all the brothers listened to their brother tell them about the spirit world.

Chapter 12: Donnie's Earth-bending Teacher

Summary:

Donnie is struggling with Earth-bending, his tallness now a flaw, luckily, someone was out in the forest when he was training.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Donnie was trying to earth-bend. He was having trouble, only making the earth shake or slightly moving rocks, and when he does manage to pick them up, he can’t control where they go.

He huffed as he got nowhere with his training. He looked over at his brothers. It was no fair, they all got master or some kind of training. He’s been looking, but there doesn’t seem to be anyone in the city who would teach him. Growing irritated, he walked off, not bothering to tell anyone he was going on a walk.

He stomped his way away from his family. He needed to get better control of his bending, or Raph would tease him forever.

Finding a secluded area full of Earth, Donnie got working on his bending. Ever since getting his growth spurt, it was harder for him to control his bending. He knew all about Avatar Kyoshi, how she also struggled because of her big hands and feet, she could only pick up big boulders and do things increased size, never small. Splinter thought telling him her story would help him.

Donnie could see he had the same trouble, and the story did inspire him to work harder, but it was still frustrating.

“AGh! Move you stupid rock!” he yelled, hitting the rock that it went flying.

He winced as it destroyed some trees. He sighed pathetically and sat down, head in his hands.

“I just can’t do it” he mumbled miserably. “Can’t do what?” he flinched at the voice “Ah!” he stood. “Relax kid, I’m not going to hurt you” she said. The woman was short, and had black hair in a bun, she wore earth-kingdom attire, and she wore no shoes.

“Sorry, just you started me” he cleared his voice. “Yeah, the girlish scream was enough to know I did” she smirked at him.

“It wasn’t girlish” he shouted, his voice cracking. He blushed. “Anyway, what’s up kid? Could feel you a mile away trying to earth-bend” she came closer. Donnie looked down “I’m just, struggling with bending…I can’t really get it right, feels wrong sometimes” he said.

The lady thought about it. “Maybe you aren’t compatible with earth-bending, it has happened sometimes” she said. “Well can’t do anything about it, I need to learn to control it” Donnie said determined.

She smirked “I like your attitude, how about this, I help you learn to control your bending huh?” she already has a whole school of metal-benders and Aang on her list of students, what’s another softy to her list going to do.

“Really?!” Donnie asked, “You’re an Earth-bender?”

“Of course, I’m the Greatest Earth-bend you’ll ever meet kid, I’m Toph Beifong” she grinned.

Donnie stared at her in shock, he was in the presence of a legend “Oh me gosh!” he grinned. Raph was going to flip his lid!

“Meet me here tomorrow and we can start” she grinned. “Hai Toph Sifu!” he bowed.

She chuckled and walked away.

-

Toph was ruthless with her training, Donnie barely had time to breath, and he was starting to sympathize with the Avatar.

“You call that a hit!” She yelled. Donnie yelped, dodging anther rock “You hit worse than twinkle toes!” Donnie aimed to throw a rock back at her, but as he picked it up, it shook in his grasp and went flying towards him.

“woah!” He dodged it. He screamed as an onslaught of rocks came his way. “Come on! Fight back Donatello!” Toph yelled. Donnie dodged more stones, breaking some with his fists as he ran away. “Stop running away!”

Getting frustrated, Donnie dived away from a boulder, and picked up his Bo, he used his Bo to hit the rocks and hit them away, moving fluidly and firm.

“Good good, now try and dodge this!” Toph hit the ground and brought out a large piece of the ground.

Donnie stared at it in dread.

“What you going to do now smart boy?” she grinned. Donnie gulped, his eye hardening. Toph threw the earth at him, and Donnie stood his ground with his Bo.

He yelled, pouring all his energy into his Bo, when the piece of land just stopped. Donnie stopped, staring up at the earth, he moved his staff and the earth move with it.

He broke out in the biggest grin out there “I-I did it!!” he cheered.

Toph nodded “Thought so, some people need assistance when bending, Avatar Kyoshi used her fans” she said.

Donnie slapped his head “Of course! Why didn’t I see it!? I needed a conductor!”

Toph smiled “Suck it up champ! You now can bend earth!” she grinned “And I think why you feel earth is not your element, you might be more of a metal bender” she said.

“Metal-bending?”

“Yup, made it all by myself, come, let’s go to my school, it’s not that far from here, I’ll teach you everything you need to know”

Donnie grew excited. “That would be amazing!”

Notes:

Toph doesn't give a shit if her students is a walking talking turtle.

Chapter 13: Metal-Bending

Summary:

Just more of Donnie's training.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Donnie picked up on metal-bending faster than Earth-bending, seems like Toph was right, he was more a metal bender then an earth-bender.

He used his Bo to control the metal just like with the earth before he started using his hands again.

He even made a metal Bo, making it easier for him to practice and fight.

“You want to join me and my family for dinner?” Donnie asked one day “I need to tell my family I found a Sifu, and I’m sure my brothers would love to meet you”

“Sure” She shrugged.

They made their way to the sewer system in republic city.

“Nice place” she said when they entered “We would have our dinner by our little hid away in the forest, but there were some hunters around the area,”

She nodded. “Dad! I’m home!” Splinter knew about his training, because of course he did.

“Welcome back, Donatello, I see you brought your master for dinner” Splinter and Toph bowed to each other. “Good to see you again Rat” She grinned.

“Please, Splinter is fine” Splinter seemed tired of his conversation.

Donnie will think about how they know each other later, he needed to brag “Oh Raphael~” He sang.

Toph watched as her student ran off, obviously to brag to his brothers he had an incredible master. “Thank you for teaching Donatello, he was giving up hope for ever learning control”

“Of course, though I’m sure he could have figured it out himself” she smiled.

“Donatello is my curious and clever son; he would have but I’m still glad you helped him”

“I’m glad to have met him as well, takes my mind off of the police system I’m making” she grinned.

“WHAT!?” came a loud shout and then footsteps running their way.

Soon, Raphael, Leonardo and Michelangelo were all by the living room to see Toph, the Greatest Earth-bender.

“Donnie! Your one upping me!” Raph yelled.

“What’s with all the yelling” Toph recognized the voice. “Zuko? So, this what you’ve been doing” She grinned. “Toph?!” Zuko called in surprised.

“The fire lord is my master” Raph yelled. “Yes, and I got the greatest earth-bender as mine” Donnie smirked smugly.

“This is not a competition” Leo scolded “We are very thankful to even have master’s that would teach us, let alone help us” he glared at his two brothers.

They both glared at each other “Besides, I would win, I had the Ocean spirit teach me” Leo smirked “Oh come on!!!” they all broke out in an argument, Toph burst out laughing while Splinter shook his head disappointed while Zuko stood their awkwardly.

Mikey just grinned to himself as a butterfly with long tails wings sat on his head.

-==-

With learning metal bending, Donnie’s projects went a lot faster. It also helped him practice to get better at control.

His first task was making amour. He had just finished the book for the third time.

The armor wasn’t really met to be worn, more for decoration, since he knew none of his brothers will really wear the armor unless it was loose, they are still ninja.

Leo was also becoming more invested into his training, so he was in their little dojo working on his kata’s, Mikey was playing with Raph, a few spirits playing with them, two of them being Leatherhead and Spike, the tortoise Raph brought home.

Which was no surprise, was a spirit guardian for him.

Donnie ignored them for now and continued to make the armor.

He leaned back, taking a breath. He smiled at the armor, it was a bit small, but he didn’t have many materials to make it better-quality.

He got up to get a drink of water. He saw his dad sitting on a couch reading when he got a water.

He came back and froze. The armor was moving. The glass was half-way to his lips as the armor moved around the room.

It finally turned to Donnie yellow eyes stared at him from under the helmet “Donatello! I am Metalhead, that’s just a nickname, I am your spirit guardian!” it said.

Donnie stared a bit more “This is my life” he said gulping down the water. “Please, it took me so long to get your attention, I didn’t have a vessel, good thing you made this metal suit!”

Donnie put the cup down. “Right, it wasn’t for you, it doesn’t matter” Donnie kneeled “So you going to live here?” he asked.

“Sure, oh, and I can’t talk sometimes, so only now and then, takes a lot of energy to do it”

Don nodded “That’s fine, we can communicate some other away”

The suit nodded “So? What are you working on here?” they moved to his projects. “Just a few ideas for improving buildings” he picked up some of the blueprints. “You could sell these, could make a lot of money”

Donnie grinned “You think?”

“I’m sure!”

“Remember to listen to the earth, feel the vibrations” Toph instructed.

“Hai Sifu!” Donnie closed his eyes and listening patiently.

He could hear Raph going all out with his training with Zuko, Mikey practicing some air kata’s, and Leo was with Splinter, talking about spirit bending.

“Ignore your brothers, try and feel under your feet, the roots, animals burrowing under you” Toph instructed.

Donnie didn’t show he heard her but stood more firm. He suddenly could feel everything around him, and the more he concentrated, the more he could feel.

“Whoa” he mumbled. “Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about!” Toph grinned.

Donnie opened his eyes, and he could still feel all around him “You are officially, my best student Donatello” She grinned. Donnie bowed to her with a big smile.

Raph watched from the corner of his eye at Don and Toph. “Raphael, concentrate!” Zuko brought him back. “Remember, fire is about passion and control, you lose that, you hurt someone” he reminded.

Raph nodded. “You need to make your anger, into passion, so it won’t spiral out of control”

Raph nodded, and took a deep breath, he thought of when he hurt Mikey. He had forgiven him, of course he did, but he still felt awful for hurting his little brother like that.

He wouldn’t let his fire get out of control like that. “Your flames are you, an extension of your body, use it like your using your weapons” he said.

Raph started on a few fire kata’s. Moving through them, fire coming out from his fists and feet.

He did a spin, and felt the fire move with him.

He started to go faster, getting into the fire, and passion, the energy.

When he stopped, fire making way for him as he stood breathing heavily.

He turned to look back at his master, finding nothing was burned as he made his way forward.

He normally left a trail of burn marks or scorched grass. But this time, nothing.

Zuko gave him a soft smile nodding approving. That’s when he saw he had an audience. Mikey was clapping, cheering, Donnie had a small smile on, Leo was happy for him and Splinter.

He looked at him proudly. “Excellent performance my son”

Raph beamed, the brother began to celebrate, leaving the adults to watch with fond smiles.

Sorry this is late, was busy for two weekends, and I'll be busy until at least the end of September. So my posting will be a bit random, sorry again.

Chapter 14: Mikey makes a new friend

Summary:

Mikey is training his air-bending with the bison, when something breaks the peace, at least Mikey meets a new friend, right?

Chapter Text

Mikey was in the field with all the bison, going over some air-bending tricks.

The spirits were helpful with teaching him different moves, and to concentrate on the air-bending scrolls. It was just a relaxing training day. They all were doing their bending training today.

Normally they would be together, but Mikey wanted to see if the bison would teach him anything else.

“You mean, hmmm” he was trying to make a new move, something fun to do, yes, he got distracted from training. “OH! How about…this!” Mikey twisted the air around him, making is twirl around his hands before coming to the center. Sticking his tongue out, Mikey jumped on the ball of air. Balancing on it well, he moved his hands in fluid motions, and soon, around him, was an air cloud.

“I made a cloud!” he cheered.

They cloud moved as Mikey sat on the cloud, like he was sitting on his bed. It was nice, and soon, he was flying with the bison.

He giggled as they flew over the mountains and into the clouds. “I fit in right here” he said as he flew with the clouds. It wasn’t hard for him to keep the air cloud flying, or for him to actually relax, though he did nearly fall asleep, and a bison saved him from falling to his doom.

So now, sitting on a bison, they flew a bit away from the city. Mikey wasn’t worried, he played his xun as they went through the wind.

He smiled as some baby bison, who just learned to fly, came over to him, moving around him like they were dancing. He happily played his flute as they ride the winds.

It was all peaceful, when something flew passed Mikey at lighting speed. It broke the peace and Mikey played a bad note. “What the shell!” he turned only to nearly fall, whatever flew passed him scared the bison, them all flying in different directions.

“Ah, wait!” The bison revved up to fly away fast. But Mikey wasn’t prepared and fell off.

He screamed, quickly using his air-bending to save himself. His first tried to make his cloud, but it messed up so he could only soften his fall.

Blowing as much air as he could, he stopped his momentum before falling to the floor. “oof!” he fell on his side, cheek on the ground.

“Argh, ow” he lifted his head rubbing his cheek. “What was that?”

He looked up, seeing the retreating bison. “Hmm” he stood up. “Oh no!” he dropped his xun “Where is it!?” he looked around the area. “I hope it’s not broken” He began searching through the grass and trees. He was starting to tear up when he couldn’t find it. “Raphie gave that to me, come on”

“What are you looking for?” Mikey jumped hard, turning into a defensive, palms at the ready to air-bend or to chop at them.

It was a human, wearing grey clothes “Uh,” he didn’t move. “I’m not going to hurt you, I promise” they said. Mikey came little closer “Are you a young spirit?” he asked.

Mikey just nodded. “Do you have a family?” he asked with a smile.

Mikey would normally be happy to talk about his family, or to anyone, if a human doesn’t have a problem with him. But he was getting bad energy from this human, so he shrugged timidly.

The man sits down, smiling patiently. “I mean you no harm, I swear to you, I’m not even a bender, but I saw how impressive you’re bending it” he said.

“Not many air-benders around”

Mikey froze, his heart pounding a bit, the man must of saw his fear, he quickly shook his head “I will not tell anyone, I promise, who knows the high demand for air-benders out there”

Mikey whimpered. “Sorry, I won’t tell anyone”

“I am Zaheer, I’m traveling around” he introduced. Mikey slowly sat down “I’m Michelangelo” he said.

“Nice to meet you Michelangelo” he smiled at him.

Mikey smiled, maybe that feeling was for something else. “So, what are you doing out here? It’s dangerous for a spirit, let alone an air-bender being out there by themselves”

“I was practicing…I asked the bison to help me” Which reminded him, something spooked them. What was that?

He looked back in the sky, like he would see whatever it was there, but nothing.

“No need to worry, I’m sure they will come back once they calmed down” Zaheer said.

Mikey smiled “I know, the always come back when they go for a fly” he giggled.

“Michelangelo!!” Mikey looked up, hearing Splinter calling for him “That’s my dad, I have to go now” he stood. “How about we meet tomorrow? I’d like to talk to you more” he said.

“Sure!” Mikey smiled. Zaheer waved and Mikey ran to where Splinter was.

When Splinter picked him up, Mikey turned to see Zaheer, he was gone.

Chapter 15: Betrayal

Summary:

Mikey is in trouble, big trouble.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

For the first few days, Mikey went to train with the bison, and talking to Zaheer.

They mostly talked about spirits, but Mikey would get off topic and talked about his brothers, his training (Bending, martial arts, all kinds of weapons trainings, etc.) and of course, they would play some mind games, Mikey is good at pai sho.

It was weird though, Zaheer didn’t want to meet his brothers or dad.

One day, Mikey was training with Raphs sai, Raph watching him and helping him.

“You’ve been hanging out with the bison a lot lately? Meet any friends there?” Raph asked suspiciously.

Mikey sweated “no…?”

“Is that a question or an answer?” Raph asked crossing his arms.

Mikey kept quiet for about a minute, holding his kata pose until he took a breath, because he was holding it in “Fine! I made a human friend!”

Raph glared “and why didn’t’ you tell us! You know some humans are mean” he remembers a year ago, when they were five and traveling, they stumbled on a human camp, they all screamed and freaked out.

Luckily Mikey was asleep on Splinters back at the time, but the three older brothers experienced the brutally of a human’s fear.

“I know, I know! But he was nice, even teaching me cool puzzle games!” Mikey smiled throwing his hands, which still held the sai’s around.

“You do know I will be telling daddy about this, and we will be meeting your friend” he said.

Mikey sighed “I know…” he then twiddled his fingers together “But…can it wait until tomorrow?” he asked hopefully.

Raph sighed “Fine, But I will be telling Sensei”

“Thank you Raphie!!” He sang hugging him. “GAh! Watch it with those things! And stop calling me that!”

-

The next day, Mikey went to the bison herd, seeing them all having their afternoon nap, he said hi to the few that were still awake, before going over some sai kata’s, as he said he would, it was weapons training week.

It was about three hours later, when Zaheer showed up.

“Hello Michelangelo” he smiled. “HI!” Mikey waved.

“You train with a weapon?” he asked.

Mikey nodded “Yup! We train every other week with a different weapon, my main weapon though, are nunchucks, the most awesome of awesome weapons of all time!” he did his own made-up kata with his nunchucks.

“This week though, I got to go over the Sai’s” he showed the sai and did another cool trick with them.

“Very impressive, your sifu must be proud”

“Daddy is always proud of us, unless it’s Raph and Donnie fighting” he chuckled.

“Sounds like a trouble two”

Mikey fidgeted “What’s wrong Michelangelo?”

“Uh…about, my brothers…uh, Raph kinda, found out we have been playing…and he’s going to tell daddy today...” he smiled nervously.

Zaheer didn’t look angry, or surprised. “I thought that might happen, don’t worry” he smiled. Mikey sighed relived. “That’s good, I didn’t want you to be mad at me”

“Never Michelangelo, oh, that reminds me” he searched through his bag, “I found this yesterday when you left” he took out xun, his flute!

“You found my xun!!” he beamed. He took it from his hands “Yes, I know how much you were looking for it, and missed it” Zaheer smiled.

“Thank you!” He hugged him. Zaheer seemed a bit shocked, before patting his shell. “Why don’t you play me a song? I heard a little from when you were on the bison”

Mikey beamed “I’d love too!”

He brought the xun to his mouth and began to play a song.

One he knew well, and it was a cheerful tune, full of turns and loud shrills.

Zaheer watched, with an intense look in his eyes, but smiled as he played. Mikey began to dance with the song.

Just as he got to the chores, he felt lightheaded. He stopped playing and held his head “uh, did I forget to eat?” he asked no one. “You alright Michelangelo?” Zaheer brought his hand out to help Mikey stand, only for Mikey to lean on him.

“Sometimes I get dizzy and sleepy if I haven’t eaten…but I’m sure…I had something before I left…”

“Maybe you’re just tired?”

Mikey then fell, his legs giving up under him. “Wah!” Now wide away, he tried to catch himself, but he couldn’t feel his arms.

Zaheer caught him and held him close. “I can’t move!” Mikey shouted, trying to struggle or more, air-bend, to do anything, but nothing was working.

“Relax Michelangelo, you are paralyzed” Zaheer told him. “Para-paralized?”

He nodded “Yes, you can’t move anything in your body right now”

Mikey could hear his heart pounding “did-did you do something?” he asked fearfully.

Zaheer stood, holding him still “Only to protect you, there aren’t any air-benders around” he said.

Mikey tried to struggle, but again, he couldn’t “NO! Let me go!” he began to try to struggle.

“It’s trivial to fight against the poison, it will last at least a day or so” he said.

Mikey felt the tears fall “I promise not to hurt you, like from the beginning, but this has to be done” he said.

“NO! I want to be with my family!”

“I thought you were my friend…” he whispered.

“I am, this is for the better for freedom” he said, carrying Mikey away from the bison’s home.

“Freedom?” he asked. “Yes, we have been trapped for so long with the government, we need to be free” he said.

“Do you really have to take me to do it?” he asked.

“Not really, we need the avatar, but you are a spirit that is an air-bender that is rare, you need to be protected, and you can help us in the long run”

(Making this up as I go if you can’t tell)

Suddenly, flames, ice and the earth stopped Zaheer from walking any further into the forest “GET AWAY FROM OUR LITTLE BROTHER!!!”

Mikey’s eyes widened in a smile “Bros!!!” he yelled.

Splinter also stood there, holding his jade cane “Let go of my son, right now”

Zaheer put Mikey down by a tree and stood in a defense stance.

They all attacked, Zaheer was only one man, and a non-bender, but he held his own quiet well against their father, but he couldn’t keep track of all of them. Leo sneaked passed them to Mikey.

He put his hands to his lips and picked his little brother up and ran away.

Donnie and Raph were going all out, using weapon and bending to attack the man.

Donnie’s metal staff being thrown and bounced back to him, Raph’s sai on fire, attacking restlessly, and Splinter, keeping him in his sights.

Suddenly, Leatherhead and Metalhead showed up. “Apologizes, for being late, my friend” Leatherhead said. “No worries, Leather” Mikey smiled.

Zaheer noticed they were getting away, he took out a knife, and went to Raph when he was distracted, after kicking Donnie away from him.

But he didn’t get far with hurting Raph, as Splinter stopped him, and all sudden, a giant tortoise appeared, grabbing Raph and Donnie, “What the shell! Who are you!?” Raph yelled. Donnie metal-bended his staff back into his hands as they were carried.

“I’m offended Raphael, don’t you recognise your friend?” the tortoise asked.

“Spike?!” Raph recognised him. “Your spirit tortoise!?” Donnie asked in shock. “I’m a guardian, just like Leatherhead” he said with a grin “And it’s Slash”

The spirit guardians got them away from the forest, and back to their training area, where Zuko and Toph were waiting. “Where have you guys been, it’s training with weapons and bending today” Toph said impatiently.

She gave a confused scowled “What the hell am I feeling? A giant turtle? A walking suit of amour, and an alligator?!”

Zuko was also looking in shock. “We can explain later, Mikey can’t move” Leo said putting Mikey down on the grass.

Zuko and Toph came over “Where is Splinter?” Zuko asked.

“He’s still with that bad man” Raph glared, but it turned concerned when Mikey whimpered “I’m sorry…I didn’t- I didn’t think he would do that” he cried.

Leo shushed him “it’s okay Mikey…as long as you’re okay, it’s okay” he comforted.

“You are still grounded though” Donnie glared “You know if you meet a human, you either leave them alone, or tell us about it” he said.

“I know…” Mikey mumbled. “Leave the scolding later, Mikey can you move anything?” Leo asked. “Only my face” he sniffed.

“Did the man give you something? Water, food? Something to inject, or prick you with something?” Zuko asked.

Mikey shook his head “No, nothing, only” he gasped “My xun! He found it! And I stared to play, when I felt dizzy” he said.

“It might only be a paralyzing poison, he should get his feeling back soon, but just in case, Leo, try to feel for anything in Mikey’s system”

Leo paled “That’s…so advanced, I-I don’t know if I can do that” he looked nervously at his brother. “Well, you’re going to have to try” Raph said, very worried for his little brother.

“We could call Katara-“ Toph started but was interrupted “No, she will bring the Avatar, and we don’t need that right now, move, Leonardo, I know a technic” he sat by his sons side “You are getting a strict talking to later, my son, but for now, relax” he rubbed his head.

Mikey nodded trying to lean into his father’s hand.

“What are you going to do?” Leo asked worriedly. “I know a bit of energy bending; I know an ancient healing mantra” he said.

They all watched intensely as Splinter began to chant and make signs with his hands.

And soon, Mikey could move. “That’s so cool!” he smiled.

Splinter just hugged his son “Please, don’t do that again” he said.

“I’m sorry daddy…”

Chapter 16: The Aftermath of the Betrayal

Summary:

Mikey is home safe, doesn't save him from being grounded though, luckily he's got some awesome brothers that love him.

Chapter Text

Mikey was grounded and had extra chores, he told them everything he and Zaheer did, and Splinter grew worried with what the man said about the avatar. The man was just a boy too.

Young and ambitious.

He didn’t share this with the others though. He sent a message to some old friends of his, knowing they would take care of it.

Mikey was back to his cheerful self, but he had nightmares for weeks, always going to his brothers or Splinter for comfort. And his xun was destroyed in the panic that was a big lost for his son.

Mikey loved playing his flute, and with it being tainted and broken like that.

He brought it up to his sons when the youngest was washing the laundry.

“We should make him another one!” Donnie said excitedly. “And how are we going to do that?” Raph asked dully.

“With clay, duh, or stone, we can make one, we will have to find some books or something of how to make one first and decorated specially for Mikey” he grinned.

Leo smiled “That’s perfect, we can paint or crave it just for Mike”

“I’m the best at craving” Raph said. “I’ll find stones, while you guys look for the instructions on how to make it”

“We can ask Toph-sensei and Lord Zuko to get us the books, and we can do the rest” Donnie said.

Splinter smiled at his sons.

It didn’t take them long to ask a spirit to send a message, and the Fire Lord sending over a book on how to make xun’s.

(It's great having a rich sensei that adores his brother as much as they do)

They read through the steps front and back, and with Raph and Leo working together, found a nice smooth stone to make it from.

Raph wasn’t lying when he said he was the best at carving, Leo mostly helped with making it smooth. They then all went looking for paint and decorated how Mikey would like it.

Orange with a few cravings on it. Leo put a Kanji meaning protect, Raph craved one that said strength, and Donnie, craved one that read wit. Once done, they wrapped it in some paper. “Alright, is he there?” Leo asked.

“Yup” Donnie checked. “How are you still getting taller?” Raph asked with a glare. Donnie smirked down at him “How are you still getting shorter?” he teased. Raph growled.

“Not know guys” Leo stopped them.

Mikey was hanging with the other spirits; he was sitting with Leatherhead. LH allowing Mikey to sit in his lap.

He was talking excitedly with Ms. Yen and Akio.

“Mikey?!” They came in. “Hey bros, Ms Frog was just telling about her friends” he smiled. “Ah yes, they are such wonderful people” She smiled. “That nice Ms. Yen, we can talk more later, Mikey, we have something to give you” Leo said.

“Oh?” Mikey climbed out of Leatherheads lap. The spirits watched curiously.

Leo handed the wrapped gift. Mikey’s face brightened like a sunflower.

He took the gift and unwrapped it.

He held the xun in surprise.

“We know your old one was destroyed, so we made you a new one” Leo chirped.

“Hope you like it”

“We made it from stone, Raph and Leo craved it and we put the kanji on it” Donnie explained.

Mikey smiled and hugged his brothers “Thank you thank you!! I love it!!” he yelled. He took the xun and began to play.

It sounded much better than the old, one, seems Donnie making sure how to make it paid off.

He danced around the room playing a cheerful tune, a big smile on his face.

Leatherhead and the few spirits around began to clap, Splinter came out of nowhere with some tea, clapping with the others.

Raph ran forward and began to stomp his feet, Leo and Donnie joining in on the fun, dancing with making noise.

“You should teach your sons how to play other instruments Splinter-san” Yen said.

Splinter hummed at that.

In the end he did end up teaching Leonardo how to play the shamisen. Donatello the koto, and Raphael the taiko they found outside some shop.

At least his sons are safe for now.

Chapter 17: Just another day

Summary:

The turtles meet Toph's daughters!

Chapter Text

“And this is Lin and Suyin, my daughters” Toph had finally brought her daughters to meet her mystery student.

Donnie smiled nervously, seeing the two teenage girls. Mikey waved happily. “Hello! I’m Mikey!” he said.

“That’s Sunshine, my student Tall Stump, Little Hothead and little droplet” Toph introduced with their nicknames.

Raph huffed, fire coming out from his hands while Leo just smiled politely. He bowed formally “Hello, I’m Leonardo”

“And I’m Raph” Raph gritted out.

Suyin grinned “I’m Suyin Nice to meet you!” she had no hesitance to say hi, while Lin seemed more hesitant. “I’m Lin”

Suyin and Mikey hit it off quickly, Lin was more closed off, but as soon as training started, she and Donnie soon competed to see who was stronger.

In the head they were covered in dirt and bruises and laughing together.

They would meet up with Lin and Suyin for training or even for dinner sometimes, even without Toph now that she was busy with the police more often.

Lin was eager to join her mother and follow in her footsteps while Suyin couldn’t’ careless.

Lin did want the turtles to meet Tenzen, Bumi and Kya, but were hesitant to do so as they were the avatars children. So decided to wait until a later date.

-

Leo and Mikey sat in the sun with a bunch of fabric and yarn around them. Leo was looking over some patterns while Mikey cut some of the fabric.

“Now, this cloak is bigger than the ones dad made” Leo said. Mikey smiled humming. “They will look awesome even with the boring colour you picked up” he teased.

Leo rolled his eyes “We are ninja Mikey; we need to stay hidden if we will be traveling” he said.

Just then, Donnie ducked under Raph’s sai. The two were training together, to better their skills. Donnie smirked as he metal-bended his staff to trip Raph.

Raph yelped catching himself before he could fall. “Donnie! Stop using your bending to trip me!” he growled throwing another punch.

Donnie dodged it with ease, he smirked “but all rules apply Raphie, and I can win anyway I want” he dropped to the ground swiftly, catching Raph off guard as he tripped him again with his staff, jumping on him to pin him on the ground.

Raph used his body to throw Donnie off him and punched the air, this time, fire coming out as it went for Donnie.

Donnie quickly spins his staff to stop the flames from reaching him.

It was enough of a distraction for Raph to speedily go behind him and knocked Donnie down, pointing his sai at him. “I win!” he smirked.

Donnie narrowed his eyes before grinning.

“You sure?” he bended his staff like water and it twisted around Raph restraining his arms to his side “huh hey!”

Leo and Mikey ignored their brothers for making the cloaks as Donnie teased Raph as he wiggled on the floor.

“Leonardo, Michelangelo, busy with more clothes?” Splinter walked in. “Yes, we are getting bigger, we thought new ones were in order” Leo said.

Raph had now broken free and was now chasing Donnie as the purple turtle laughed and ran away.

“Yeah! I’m going to make mine and Leo’s, Leo is going to make Don’s and Raphie’s!” Mikey said cutting out another piece. “You don’t mind if I assist you?” Splinter sat down. “Of course, not Dad!” Leo smiled and handed his father a patter “We were going to make the ones with the sleeves, then the one without, better for if it’s cold” he explained.

“Excellent idea” Splinter started to help cutting out patterns.

Now Raph had Donnie in a choke hold, Donnie struggling.

“I thought you would have joined your brothers in training Leo?” Splinter asked. “Nah, I was already helping Mikey when they began to train” Leo shrugged.

“And besides this is a lot more fun than getting bruised because of Don and Raph’s rivalry” Mikey pipped up.

In the background Donnie had broken free and was now wrestling with Raph, another normal afternoon.

Chapter 18: The of age Journey

Summary:

They are old enough to go exploring on their own.

Chapter Text

They turned 13 a few days ago (Splinter thinks), and it was time to explore the world for themselves. They didn’t have to do much to convince their father, as he knew they would want to explore on their own. He was worried, of course, so he was going to keep an eye on them with mediation.

Other than that, they were packed and ready to go. “Hold on! I need my books!” Mikey cried, searching his room.

“Don’t bring too many! We will be picking up a lot of things for this year!” Leo yelled.

Over the years, Leo has become more mature; he’s still a nerd and sarcastic self, but he has become more disciplined in the bushido ways and listened to their father’s lessons more than any of the brothers.

Raph took up some mechanic work with Donnie, though they still butted heads with each other. Donnie had been drawing up a lot of different plans, architecture, and improvements for a lot of different things. And Mikey, well, he was the same. Making friends with spirits and being his natural self, like always.

“Alright! Let’s go!” Mikey grinned, meeting up with his brothers.

They were all wearing their cloaks, bandaged and baggy clothes, all the cloaks had hoods. They needed to be ready to hide if any humans appeared on their travels.

Underneath they did have their usual clothes, though. “Finally, let’s go”

Splinter had his cane as they walked out of the sewers. Republic City has grown as well.

Toph got that police system made, and Aang made one of the islands, Airbender Island. Mikey sneaks there sometimes to watch the air acolyte’s work.

Sadly, with the world building up in the industry, Fire Lord Zuko couldn’t visit them as much as he used to.

But they were expecting it.

They walked to the exit, only to be stopped by their father. “You four be safe now, I know I am allowing you to go, but” Splinter’s ears went down “I can’t help but worry” he said.

Leo smiled, standing straighter “Do not worry Dad, we will protect ourselves and each other” he said. “I know you will, but please, be safe”, he hugged them all.

He waved them off at the forest. Mikey had the biggest grin as he waved goodbye. They walked to the mountains, where Mikey said his hi’s and bye’s to the bison. “So, first stop, Earth Kingdom”, Donnie grinned, looking over the map.

“Why do we have to go to the Earth Kingdom first?” Raph rumbled. “Because it’s the closest”, Donnie glared.

“And we discussed this, we aren’t going to the Earth Kingdom, Donnie, we are starting on small islands, then moving to the bigger cities”, Leo reminded.

Mikey patted the teen bison before catching up with his brothers “I really want to visit Kyoshi island”, he smiled “Don’t you, Don?”

Donnie looked at his map. It’s no secret that Donnie admired Avatar Kyoshi. “I do…” he mumbled.

Leo smiled “We go to small islands, but until we get to a boat that we will make ourselves, we are to explore through the mountains to the seaside close to the southern earth kingdom”, he said.

Raph crossed his arms “Yea, I know, I don’t think Don did” he grinned at him. Donnie glared before sticking out his tongue.

Leo sighed, “This is going to be a long journey”

-

They explored the many areas of the mountain before moving more inward. They took turns guiding each other. Holding the map. Donnie knew how to make and read maps; he taught the others how to read maps as well.

It was Mikey’s turn to hold the map and guide them. But it seemed he kept getting distracted. “Come on Mikey, we are on a schedule” Raph complained “stop being in such a rush, this is a journey, no need to be on the speed” Mikey stuck his tongue out at him.

Leo nodded “Yes, it’s a journey, we can take our time with it” Donnie was tinkering with something “I just want this journey to be in a year” he said.

Mikey closed the map. He smiled at some flying spirits around him, butterfly, bunny-looking ones, jellyfish and fish-looking ones. “There seem to be a lot of spirits around here”, Leo commented, moving his foot for some plant spirits, frogs, and fuzzy creatures on the ground. Donnie put a mushroom spirit on his shoulder, who kept wanting to see what he was making.

Raph let Weasel and Dragon-bunny spirit run along with him.

“I would stick to the map, bros, but I feel something pulling me this way”, Mikey said, pointing more inwards.

“I guess we can see where it goes”, Leo said. Raph groaned.

They continued following their little brother, the spirits following them. “I see they want us to go this way as well” Donnie comments.

They camped for the night and two more nights before they stopped over a great big swamp.

“Woah”, They all breathed.

“This place…has so much spiritual energy…I can feel it everywhere,” Leo said. Mikey nodded, all the spirits on him going down there.

Mikey made his way down. “I can see why you were called here Mikey. This place is the swamp, it’s full of spiritual aura and energy, and it calls spirits or anyone spiritual here,” Donnie explained.

They came to the ground, to the water. “Should we make a boat?” Donnie asked.

“I can make an ice one”, Leo said. “No way, I am not sitting in one of your ice boats” Raph crossed his arms. “We can make a boat, like we planned to do”, Donnie glared. “Oh, you’re so smart”, Raph grumbled.

Mikey was already stepping into the water “Guys, we’re turtles, let’s just swim for now”, and he started to swim with the spirits.

Leo shrugged and joined him. Raph and Don soon after.

They let the spirits guide them as they swam through the vines. “Look, some land” They climbed onto the giant tree branch, or tree. Donnie chuckled.

They walked along the tree, looking at everything around them. Donnie made sure their bags he and Leo had made together, were working and waterproofed (which it was). They made it to actual land, or just some stone platforms and started to climb on those. More and more spirits followed them as they went too.

They talked about the swamp as they walked, even having some conversation with the local spirits. “The avatar was in this swamp at some point” A bird spirit sat on Leo’s shoulder “Oh yeah?”

“Yup, he and his friends, the swamp gave them hallucinations, to help them on their journey”

“Interesting”, Donnie mumbled. “Will the swamp give us hallucinations?” Mikey asked. “Depends on if you need them”, they said all mysterious like.

They continued until it became dark. The spirits led the turtles to a cave to take shelter “There’s a storm coming” They set up their camp and added a tarp at the entrance for the storm.

Mikey cooked for the family and even made some bowls for some spirits that stayed with them.

They enjoyed some steamed vegetables, butter tea and Tsampa. “From reading those air-bending scrolls, steamed vegetables were often eaten with the nomads, and butter tea is for welcoming guests” Mikey grinned, letting some of the spirits drink his tea “Though, I guess we are the guests here”

They tried different kinds of food every day, sometimes mixing it up.

Even though they were all raised the same, and their father didn’t have a specific nation he was raised in, they are all mixed, but liked to get to know the other nations and histories, mostly because of their bending.

They ate their dinner, Mikey sharing his with some spirits, when the wind picked up. “I’ll take first watch”, Raph said as they cleaned the dishes before the storm got too bad. “Then I’m next” Donnie nodded, making a mental note as he packed away his bowl and cup

Once packed and ready for bed, they went into their tents.

They had two tents, they shared. They switched up who shared what day, one night, it could be Mikey and Donnie, the two talking for hours together in the shared tent about history or their favourite book series, and the other night, it could be Leo and Donnie, or Donnie and Raph, you get the picture.

Tonight, it was Leo and Mikey, while Donnie went to the empty tent to sleep until his shift.

Raph stayed at the fire, letting it die on its own, the storm raging on outside, the tarp flapping against the strong winds.

Some spirits stayed around the fire-bender; some went to sleep around their camp. The ones that stayed awake by Raph’s side were the weasel and the bird.

Raph let them be, as he kept alert for any danger or threat that could hurt his brothers.

Chapter Text

Morning came, and it was only drizzling. Leo sat awake, waiting for his brothers to wake.

He rubbed the frog-squirrel that was sitting on his leg.

Mikey climbed out of the tent, blinking groggily. “Morning…” he yawned. Leo smiled “Morning Michelangelo” Stretching Mikey makes his way to his brother “Grab some of the jerky, should be some in there” Leo pointed to his bag. Mikey nodded and took some out.

He munched on it just as Raph and Donnie came out. They all had some jerky before packing up. “So, what’s todays plan?” Raph asked.

“We can explore the swamp a bit more and then make it to the ocean” Leo said hosting his bag on his back. They made their way out of the cave, Mikey’s ferret appearing out of nowhere with a few other spirts that followed them. They trudged alone the trail, over vines, water, and rocky areas, until they came to the centre of the swamp.

“This is beautiful” Leo touched the tree, feeling the connection of it. Raph nodded, feeling the high energy coming from the tree.

“This is connected to everything in the world” Mikey said in awe, he touched the bark with a grin “The ocean is that way, and” his eyes widened “I can see dad from here!” he laughed.

“Really?!” The others tried.

Leo saw quickly enough, Raph right after and Donnie last.

“That’s so cool” they all grinned. They said goodbye to the spirits and made their way to the ocean.

They worked together to make a boat and sailed off. “To Kyoshi Island!” Mikey yelled pointed into the vast sea.

-=-

It took a few days, but they finally made it to an island, to quickly restock on food and to look around. “Remember, stay out of sight” Leo said.

They all nodded.

Quickly going through the town, they collected some food and other materials.

They set a camp for the night; they would leave early in the morning.

While his brothers looked over the map, Mikey went to say hello to the local spirits.

He walked to a rock area, where a single tree stood. He was stopped by a blue jay. It was a spirit he could tell “What are you doing not disguised!?” they asked a bit rudely.

“What you mean?” he asked confused. They rolled their eyes “Are you a baby?! All spirits can shapeshift to hide from stupid mortals, you are old enough to know!” they yelled.

“Blue calm yourself, they seem still young” Another spirit came out. They formed from the bird into a dragon-bird spirit that was small. “We can help you if you are struggling” They gave a kind smile.

“Wait! You mean we can shapeshift!?” he yelled. “Yes, you just think of what you want to be, or just think of hiding, it should happen” they explained. Mikey tried but nothing happed. “Aw…”

“Some spirits can’t do it sometimes…”

“Keep trying, we have to go” and they left. Mikey waved goodbye, and tried a few more times to shift, but nothing.

He went to bed disappointed.

The next morning, the brothers were all packing up and cleaning. Raph had watch last night, so didn’t wake Mikey up. “Mikey! Wake up! We’re leaving soon!” he yelled.

Mikey groaned and sat up. “Coming bro…” he climbed out of the tent, only to be met with shocked looks.

Raph immediately took out his sai’s “Who are you!?”

“Woah bro it’s me!?” Mikey held up his hands, only to see his hands “I’m human!!!” he screamed.

“What the hell Mikey! Did you get cursed!?” Raph yelled.

Donnie came over, putting his glasses on taking a closer look. “No! At least, I don’t think so!?” he started touching himself, he felt soft fluffy hair, his skin was brown. “What happened to me guys?!” he screamed touching all over his body.

He was all human, everything felt human, looked human.

He then remembers the night before “OH! Some spirits told me all spirits can shapeshift; I tried last night but it didn’t work” he said.

“Shapeshift, I knew spirits could do that but never thought…” Leo thought to himself. “So, you shifted last night? Try and turn back” he requested.

Mikey nodded and closed his eyes. He quickly shifted back into his turtle form. “That’s so cool…” he shifted back into the human form.

“Come guys, try it!” He grinned.

Leo closed his eyes and concentrated. He was quick to shift into a human, his skin was white, and his hair was black. He opened his eyes looking at his hands “This is weird” he mumbled.

Donnie tried next, it took him longer than Mikey and Leo, but he eventually shifted. His skin was brown and hair too.

Raph was even longer, hair black, skin brown.

“This is so weird” Raph said, feeling his hair. Donnie was mumbling why his hair is braided into dreadlocks.

“This is so cool dudes! We can go into villages without hiding!” he smiled.

“We have to practise first Mikey” Leo let go of the form, looking out of breath.

Raph and Donnie also, Raph more so. Mikey tilted his head confused “I don’t feel any different” he felt his chest.

“You are most spiritual inclined then us Mike” Donnie said dully.

“Oh right” he realized. “Well, for now, we will all work on this new skill and power together, and master it”

Mikey did a little dance “except Mikey, he will help us learn” Leo smiled.

“Alright, let’s clean up, and once we get on a steady course, we will practise with everyone’s spiritual energy”

They cleaned up quickly, and once they got Mikey to form back into a turtle, they went to their boat and set sail again.

Mikey started helping Raph get his concertation going so they could get their spiritual energy going.

Leo helping Donnie.

They got good enough, that Raph and Don could keep their form for an hour at least, Leo two. Mikey could for five.

They didn’t practise any more to not tire themselves, and they came to the island they were wanting to go to, Kyoshi Island.

“We finally arrived!” Mikey cheered. He was in human form, cloaks and orange clothes, Leo as well. Donnie and Raph had their cloaks up in case they couldn’t hold their form.

“This is very convenient that we learned this” Raph said. “I know right, must be fate” Mikey grinned. “Alright, we have an hour or so to interact with the villagers, keep your hoods on in case you can’t hold the shift long enough to get out of sight, and we meet back at the camp later” Leo said.

They all nodded and Mikey bragged Donnie off, the two wanting to ask about Avatar Kyoshi, since Donnie liked anything with Kyoshi and was reading about Avatar lore, and Mikey just liked how cool all the avatars were.

Raph and Leo decided to see what the food was like.

“Hello, welcome to Kyoshi island” an old man smiled at him. “Great to be here! Is it okay if we ask about Avatar Kyoshi?” Donnie asked. “Of course, we love to share our history” The man smiled.

He told them all about the tale of how Kyoshi move the island. “You think you can do that Don?” Mikey grinned. Donnie had stars in his eyes as he listened, every time Kyoshi is brought up.

While they nerded out, and realizing they can talk to people, Leo and Raph looked over some food “We don’t have money, so we will hunt some food for tonight” Leo said.

“Hello mister!” They both flinched at the voice. It was a little girl “Hello?” Leo said awkwardly. The little girl giggled “Your funny, we don’t get many visitors” she said. “And why is that?” he asked kneeling down. “Because the island is made to hide, that’s why, also why do you have weapons if your not girls?” she asked.

“Made to hide? And we are uh, training, warriors I guess?” he said awkwardly. “But you’re not girls” she said stubbornly.

“Anyone can be a warrior little girl” Raph said with a huff.

“But we have all the girl warriors”

She pointed to a group of warrior’s females in green kimonos.

Raph and Leo could see how they carried themselves, with strength and confidence.

“Are you visiting?” one came over and asked. “Yes, I and my brothers, are just here to visit” Leo said, standing up.

“How many are with you”

“Four, including myself”

“And those weapons?” she asked suspicious. “We are taught in our clan’s arts by our father, we are trained in weapons and Martial arts” he explained.

“You seem young to know all that”

Leo puffed out in pride “Our father wanted to train us from a young age, and to be prepared for anything” he said proudly.

Raph rolled his eyes. “Are any of you benders?” she asked. “My three brothers are, I am a water-bender, and we have a fire and earth bender, our youngest is a non-bender” he hated lying, but no one was supposed to know Mikey was an air-bender.

“Well, I won’t interrogate you any longer, enjoy your time here, and keep out of trouble” she said before going back on patrol.

“That was weird” Raph said stiffly. “Maybe something happened with visitors here that made them wary” Leo thought.

With Donnie and Mikey, they were talking a storm about Kyoshi, with the old man and another woman. “Why don’t you meet the Kyoshi warriors?”

“We were going to them” Donnie smiled.

They left to where the Kyoshi warriors train. They watched as they trained together, with their fans.

“So cool” Mikey grinned.

“Hi there” one of the warriors noticed them. Mikey waved at them “Hi!”

“You need something?” she asked, the others stopping their training. “We just wanted to watch! We were just talking with the elders all about Avatar Kyoshi, you guys were next on our list to check out” he said. “We just wanted to watch you practice” Donnie cleared up any confusion.

She smiled “Relax kids, you can watch, though I can see you are warriors yourself” she said seeing their weapons. Mikey touched his nun-chucks “Yup, we are in training”

They talked with them for a few minutes, before Mikey said they were learning chi blocking from their father but haven’t gone too far with it.

So, they went over the basics before practicing. At some point, Leo and Raph joined in and they all practiced together.

Chapter 20: To the Southern Water Tribe!

Summary:

Leo pays his respects to his Masters.

Notes:

Apologies for not updating in so long, my interests shift a lot so updates will be slow.

Chapter Text

They stayed one more night before leaving on their boat. They stopped at a few islands, practicing their arts and spiritual energy before the temperature became cold.

“Were nearly at the South Pole” Leo said solemnly. Donnie looked at Leo sadly.

A few years ago, they got word that Pakku had passed, with his wife, Kanna. They couldn’t go to the South Tribe to pay respects; Leo took it hard.

So, they can finally do it.

“Careful of the ice” Leo said. Suddenly something submerged by them. Leo smiled; it was his whale friend. “Hello, my friend” he patted his head before walking onto them.

“Can I join?” Donnie asked. “Of course,” Leo made room for him to sit. They sat there as the Whale followed their boat. Raph was steering, Mikey was annoying him. “You going to be, okay?” Don asked. “I will be, I only knew them for a few weeks…but they were so kind to me”

“Like grandparents?” Donnie said. “In a way, yes…”

They sat in silence. Hearing Mikey and Raph shout at each other. They smiled at each other as their brothers teased each other.

-

When they hit ice, they went back to the boat, and said goodbye to Leo’s friend.

Donnie thought back to Metalhead, they stayed behind to help their father and keep him company, the two becoming good friends somehow. While Leatherhead and Slash, Raph’s and Mikey’s protectors, are in the spirit world.

They put on some warmer clothes, as they are reptiles.

Raph was shivering by the side of the boat, feeling seasick and freezing. Mikey was staying warm by moving around, doing chores on the sails.

He swings by the ropes every now and then.

Leo was steering and Donnie was below deck, tinkering away in his room.

Leo was not that effected by the cold. They soon came to the spot Leo had been spat out from. The waves around their boat shifted somewhat, and Leo eyed it with a glare.

“You good?” Raph asked. Leo shook his head “Yea, let’s go”

They formed into their humans’ forms and bundled up in warm clothes and coats.

Raph more bundled than them all.

They explored the Southern Tribe a bit. Having some Blubbered seal jerky and blueberry cookies. Mikey was the only one who had some kale cookies.

After asking where the Master Pakku was laid to rest. “Are you one of his students? You seem young, when did he take you in?” the woman asked. “A few years ago, I was only here for a mouth, but he taught me so much” he said.

They got some directions and went over there. Raph lit some incense for Leo to put on the graves, and Mikey offered some kale cookies he still had.

“Hey Master Pakku, these are my brothers” Leo said.

They all bowed their head in respect, even shifting back into turtles before leaving.

Donnie saying thank you before following his brothers.

They decide to use some of the little money they had to stay in an inn, since they wouldn’t last too long in the cold, and ordered a small room with two beds, going to share the beds, or use their sleeping bags.

Mikey wanted to cuddle, so he begged Donnie to share a bed with him.

Later in the night, Mikey and Donnie fighting with pillows, Leo left the room. Raph looked up from his book when he left.

He sighed before following his stupid brother, leaving the two youngest to their pillow fighting.

Leo didn’t go too far, stopping by the railings looking out into the city.

“You, okay?” Raph asked once he caught up with him. “Fine…just needed to think for a bit”

Raph leaned against the railing, just giving his company so his stupid older brother knows he’s not alone.

When it started snowing Raph side hugged him. They stayed there a little longer, before going back to the inn.

“Thanks…” Leo said as they entered the inn. “Don’t mention it”

They went back to their room, their younger brothers chatting about their favorite book series. Leo grinned cutting in with the pirate series he was enjoying, Raph saying it was stupid, even though he was just reading it a few seconds ago.

That brought them all into a play argument on which series is the best, which ended with them in a pillow fight, until their neighbors complained on the noise. They all laughed by the loud knocking and Leo apologized embarrassed for causing all the noise.

They then went to bed, Mikey bragging Donnie to the bed to sleep, and Raph reluctant joining Leo on the other bed, they used their sleeping bags on the bed though.

For them to sleep comfortably, they sleep on a pile of pillows, so all of them working together a few tears ago, made their beds as a big pillow where they can fit on nicely with their shells.

(Like a giant bean-bag)

They can’t do much with their sleeping bags, other than adding more blankets for the bottom, or going into their shells to sleep, which they do sometimes.

Sleeping on a bed a bit weird, it was comfortable, but not made for their shells.

Chapter 21: One-shots of their Journey

Just a few shorts of their travels.

Chapter Text

They spend the next few months explore different islands and areas, even meeting with some spirits that were around.

But a few weird things happened to some of the towns and cities they visited.

They were exploring around an Earth Kingdom Island, when a group of benders and non-benders all wearing black clothing to hide their faces, had broken into a home of some rich guy.

They had met the man early in the day, he was nice to them, even with being rich. They sneaked in to see what these people were up to and stopped an assignation. They didn’t show themselves even when the guards showed up to arrest them.

And another incident happened while they were moving from a small, colonised town, of a carried being stolen from. They stopped them and continued with their day.

-=-

They went to the air temples, just to look around.

Mikey enjoyed himself. Since Avatar Aang made the air acolytes, they all went to the air temples and started on cleaning up the place and fixing it up.

And even though Mikey wanted to go in human form and ask so many questions, he felt it wasn’t time yet, so they just sneaked around at night, looking at the old structures and history. They stayed for two nights, mostly because Donnie stumbled onto a high spiritual area, where they all decide to meditate at.

Once they did a few other spiritual things, and talking to the local spirits, they left to the fire nation.

-

The brothers had camp to the fire nation in a matter of days and had camped by the rocky beach

They were going to leave soon, going to visit Zuku in his palace. As they sat on the beach, talking and taking a break. Leo collected some shells. He felt something from them, something that felt like his water-bending.

“What you are doing Leo” Donnie asked when he noticed his brother wasn’t talking.

“A theory” he said, he closed his eyes and concentrated on the shell.

He didn’t do any movement, but after a minute, the shell in his hand shook, and a burst of water came from it. Leo fell back by the shock wave of water and he quickly bended the water straight back to the ocean.

“What the hell was that!?” Raph yelled. He had face first of water. “That was so cool! It was like you draw water from the shell!” Donnie said excited.

“They used to belong to the ocean, I can draw the water from it” Leo smiled. Leo kept a few shells on him before breaking camp. “Did you send Lore Zuko a message?” Leo asked Raph. “I did, told him about our shapeshifting and everything” he grinned.

He and Donnie have gotten better at shifting with Mikey’s and Leo’s help. Shifting into their human selves, they enter the city.

Raph and Mikey immediately went to the food, while Donnie and Leo went to the libraries. While on this journey, they decided to take in the culture.

After a full day of sightseeing, they move to where Zuko told them to meet up.

He had aged, because that’s what humans do it seems. Some spirits explained that spirits age differently, some don’t age at all, which explains why Splinter hasn’t age, and why the turtles were growing slowly even being thirteen years old.

“Raphael?” Zuko asked. “Yup, weird seeing us as human right?” he grinned. “Its soooo cool! We can walk around like anybody!” Mikey jumped on Raph.

Zuko smiled as the two brothers bickered. “Thank you for taking us in for the night” Leo bowed to the Lord. “Please, you’re basically family, and I’ve been meaning to introduce you to my wife anyway”

He led them into the palace, telling the guards to spread word of their arrival.

“I know you don’t want to stand out too much, I’ve made sure no one will go around spreading rumours, only Mai, and my most trusted guards know that you are my student, and his brothers are here for a visit” he explained to them.

“Thank you, Sifu Zuko” Raph bowed. They passed by an open garden area.

“WOAH!” Mikey took to running, his curly hair flying in the wind while he did a cartwheel “This place is huge! Are those turtle ducks!?” he fell to the pond and watched as a family of turtle ducks watch him curiously.

“Mikey!” Raph yelled. “I apologize for Mikey Lord Zuko” Leo smiled. Zuko laughed “it is fine”

They let Mikey play around, dragging Raph into a game before Zuko asked a servant to call Mei.

Donnie and Leo spoke with Zuko about his work and how he has been. Raph had Mikey over his shoulder so he could finally catch up with his master.

Mikey was playing his Xun when Mei arrived. “Mei” Zuko smile softened, and he wrapped his arm around her waist. “So, this is your student?” she asked looking at the four boys.

Mikey stopped playing and smiled up at her “Hello! I’m Mikey! I’m the youngest, these are my brothers! Raph is Zuko’s master in fire-bending! Leo is the oldest and the water-bender, and Donnie is the genius earth-bender!” he introduced them all.

Raph sighed before bowing “I am Raphael, it is an honour to meet my master’s partner” Mei smiled, he thinks. “Good to finally meet Zuzu’s secret student”

Zuko blushed at the nickname. Mikey giggled.

They had lunch together in the garden, and they told the royal couple of their journey. “I still can’t believe your father let you go; he seemed very protective of you four” Zuko sipped his tea.

Leo cleared his throat as Donnie spoke up “It wasn’t easy to convince him to let us go, but it was his idea in the first place” he explained. “He told us he went on a journey at a young age of exploration and for knowledge, we kind of used that against him” he grinned.

“And dad understands we can look after ourselves” Raph smirked. “And I think he knows he can’t keep us there forever” Mikey pipped up.

Lunch was nice and Zuko showed them a guest room for the night. “You will be leaving in the morning?” he asked. “Yup, we have a strict schedule to follow, we will be leaving to some smaller fire nation villages close by” Leo clarified.

Zuko smiled “Enjoy your time, and if you ever need help, you call me, or your spirit guardians” he said. Leo nodded.

They had all shifted back into their turtle forms. They feel more comfortable in their own skin but understand they must disguise themselves.

-

Three days later, they covered a lot of ground thanks to Zuko giving them a carriage to take them out of the city and in the right direction they wanted to go before continuing foot.

They had just arrived at the village they wanted to be at and paid for two rooms at an inn.

“Alright ninja’s, we are doing some stealth training, no shapeshifting, and stay out of sight” Leo told them. They all nodded before sneaking off.

Leo made a run for the shadows. It was early morning, so they didn’t have to worry about anyone being awake at this time.

Make it across some of the many roof tops, he stopped on one. He kept his senses open, making sure he couldn’t hear his brothers before continuing.

He stopped just in time for a shadow to jump across from him. At first, he thought it was his brother, but looking closer, it was someone else.

He watched the person move, they wore black clothing and a scarf hiding their face.

He decided to follow them.

This isn’t the first time they’ve all ran into someone like this. A ninja sneaking about. It mostly ends up with the four of them stopping the ninja from killing someone or stealing something.

He watched the ninja before following them inside. He saw they were stealing something this time.

This was going to be a long night

-

Mikey wrote his letter to their dad.

He was going to ask a spirit to help them out to deliver it to him. “Do you all have your letters?” he asked coming out from his tent. “Yup” Raph gave him his. He was sitting by the fire, his turn to cook.

“I had a few more thing to write so give me a second!” Donnie yelled from his tent. Leo came over with his.

“Who are you asking this time?” Leo asked. “I was thinking of asking the blueJay” Mikey said holding the letters.

Donnie gave him his letter and Mikey asked the spirit to help them out.

-

Donnie worked carefully with the ore he was using. “You sure you don’t need any help?” Leo asked. “Oh, I’m really sure” Donnie grinned.

“I can’t believe you wanted to make your own katanna” Donnie turned once he was done.

“It was just an idea” Leo smiled. “uhhuh, you should put those shells on the hilt, could be handy for emergency water or something” Donnie shrugged going back to work.

“Hey that’s a good idea” Leo smiled.

“Of course it is, I thought of it”

-

Raph yelled over all the other voice “STICK IT TO HIM!!” They had somehow found an earth-bending wrestling arena and Raph was enjoying himself.

Donnie was also yelling “YOU CALL THAT EARTH-BENDING!!!” he yelled out.

Mikey smiled sweetly next to Leo who was uncomfortable with the amount of yelling “They sure are getting along huh”

“Uh, sure, if you say so little brother” Leo flinched at the loud voices.

-

“Whoa, there’s a lot of spirits here” Leo said looking at a butterfly one.

Mikey giggled as some of them played around him. “Seems this place is one of many hubs for spiritual energy” Donnie said looking around.

“Yea, we gathered that genius” Raph sassed. “Please, if it wasn’t obvious, you wouldn’t even be able to tell a spirit from a normal creature” Donnie sassed back. Leo ignored them. “You think we could meditate here for the night?” he asked. “I can play my Xun!” Mikey cheered.

Once they got to a safe area, they all got down to mediate. Which ended them all in the spirit world.

Out of all the brothers, Mikey is the only one who has managed to go to the spirit world. Leo has been trying but hasn’t gotten it down yet.

“How the shell did we get here!?” Raph yelled, standing on a tree branch. “It might have something to do with the high spirit energy” Donnie theorized.

“Or the spirits helped us” Mikey had his ferret friend around his neck as he scratched their chin. “This is so cool!” Leo looked around in wonder. “Let’s explore!” He ran off, Mikey running after him just as fast. “Hey! Leo” Raph and Donnie followed up after them.

They explored the area they were in, until they came to a building that was in the trees.

“That’s weird” Raph said offhandedly.

They climbed their way in the building. Raph groaned while Leo and Donnie made noises of excitement. Mikey was already saying hello to the spirit foxes that were there.

“it’s a library!!” Donnie yelled.

They all tensed when something flew overhead them. Leo and Raph were quick to take out their weapons, while Mikey rubbed the foxes head looking around.

“Young spirits in my library hmm?” it was an old owl spirit.

“Hello” Mikey waved.

“I am Wan Shi Tong, and you are welcome here, as long as you give some knowledge” they said.

“Of course!” Donnie went through his bag and took out a blueprint he has been working on as they traveled.

It was some kind of steamboat. “Ohh, very nice” the owl took the blueprint under his feather.

Leo was next, he didn’t have much, so he took out a short story he wrote himself, which was accepted for the owl.

Mikey thought hard of what to give the spirit, then remember the sheet of air-kata’s he made up.

“Here!”

“Very interesting” Wan Shi Tong looked at the sheet before taking it.

Raph thought for long before clicking his fingers “I got just the thing” he pulled out a drawing he just completed. It was of one of the many places they had visited on their journey.

He had many more of the different places.

“Oh, beautiful artwork” Once they took it, they monitored to the fox “You can ask the fox spirits for any help” they said before flying off.

“This is going to be a fun day!” Donnie ran off “Wait buddy system!” Leo yelled. “Mikey-“ “I’ll stay with Raph!” Mikey grinned. Leo nodded before running after Donnie.

“So, where do you want to check first?” Mikey asked. “Not sure, how about we just looking around?” Raph suggested.

“Good idea!”

They spent many hours in the library. Looking through many of the books and art works and history they could gather before they had to leave.

They might be spirits and welcome in the spirit realm at any time, they had mortal body’s that need them back in the mortal plane.

After thanking the owl, they explored a bit more, had some lunch with some spirits before leaving.

“Oh, we should have called Leather Head and our guardians” Mikey said when they ‘awoke’ from their mediation. “Why?” Leo asked.

“It is dangerous in the spirits world for young spirits apparently” he said.

Chapter 22: Fun Day in the park with a side of backstory

Summary:

What the title says, the boys come home and have a day topside with their dad, when some things happens and Splinter explains to them what happened to the Hamato Clan.

Chapter Text

The four turtle brothers were a week away from home. They had turned 14 a week ago and were ready to return from their one-year journey.

They would have been home by now, with their father who they missed dearly, if not for these ninja’s. Donnie had put together they were ninja’s that were in the same clan. They kept running into them their whole journey.

“They all have the same symbol, like a house clan, like us” he explained. “Their ninja!” Mikey then shouted. They aren’t sure why ninja were stealing from museums or vaults or hurting innocents. They mostly stopped them by accident not realizing their ninja until they see the symbol.

“We should hurry, dad was expecting us home by now ‘Leo said worried. “Relax Nardo, we have enough time” Donnie said before metal-bending his staff to smack one nin.

Leo sighed.

Soon enough they ended the fight and they all stood around the knocked-out bodies. “These guys are getting suspicious, wherever we went they were there” Raph spoke his mind.

“It’s suspicious, luckily I already have an answer to that dear brother” Donnie grinned. He took out a piece of paper “This is map I yoink from one of the ninja’s, apparently they are called the Footninja” Mikey’s laughed interrupted Donnie.

“The Foot!?”

“Yes Michael, anyway, they mark all the area’s we saw them in, it seems they are hunting some artifact, so it is merely a coincidence we were there when they were” he said showing the map.

Leo thought deeply “it looks like their base is in Republic city” he said seeing the mark on the map.

Donnie nodded “Yes I noticed that too, they unfortunately are smart enough not to reveal where it could be”

“This could be dangerous” Leo grew worried. These ninjas were cruel and trained.

“Don’t worry Leo, we will beat them if they try anything” Mikey grinned. “Yeah, we have better training then them” Raph smirked.

Leo smiled softly. “We will worry when we get home” Donnie said.

Leo nods “Right” they make the rest of the trip home.

“Wow! Republic city changed a lot!” Raph noted. “Evolution does happen fast” they sneak to the underground and opening the secret passage.

“My sons, welcome home” Splinter stood by Metalhead, Leatherhead and Slash. “Dad!” they all ran and hugged him. They really missed him. “We have set up a party for you, our friends” Leatherhead said.

“Really?! Thanks!” Mikey cheered hugging Leatherhead.

They all settled for the festivities and spoke of their journey they couldn’t get into their letters. “Raph then slipped, scaring all the kids!” Mikey laughed. “I didn’t mean to!” Raph defeated, his cheeks growing pink.

“I wouldn’t have if Donnie didn’t push me!” he glared. Donnie rolled his eyes “You were in my way” he shrugged.

Raph growled “Mikey really helped those kids” Leo said ignoring the recurring argument.

Splinter laughed. He missed his sons so much. “That reminds me, Lin-kun has graduated” he told.

“That’s great!” Leo smiled. Raph grumbled “That’s good for her, she’s been howling us before we left about it”

Donnie grinned at Raph. Their argument winner obvious.

The dinner went well and in the end that all sat in the living room telling their journey before sleeping in the pit.

Leatherhead already have put blankets and pillow.

-

In the morning Mikey woke everyone with breakfast “so, since we can disguise ourselves, why don’t we spend the day topside?” he asked excited.

“Great idea Mikey!” Splinter smiled. Toph had already made them citizenship with Donnie’s help.

They got ready and left.

They started on a tour, to see the city they have been hiding under.

It was early morning but there were people already on the streets.

Donnie marveled at the technology while Mikey googles at the food.

They explored, seeing the sights and culture.

They were sitting in the park when Mikey picked a filer. “What is a soup kitchen?” he asked. Splinter read it “It’s a place where others make food for others who don’t have any” he explained. “People don’t have food?!” he asked shocked. Splinter nodded “It happens under unfortunate events and tragic times, Because of the war many don’t have homes or can’t get jobs to get food” he said.

“People who can help volunteer their time to make and dish out food” Mikey beamed “That’s so cool!!” now that he thought of it, there were many people they met in the journey that would ask for help.

He realized some of them were kids. He held the filer, thinking deeply.

“Hey Mikey! Come play!” Raph yelled holding a ball. Mikey stood and joined his brothers in kicking the ball. Splinter stayed by the blanket drinking tea.

Somehow Donnie and Mikey got on a team. Leo and Raph are good, but it wouldn’t stop the PO Team.

“Po Team?” Donnie questioned. “No, the P.O, for Purple and Orange” Mikey grinned. Donnie thought over it before nodding “Doable”

They stood by their side, using two rocks Donnie made as their goal.

“The P.O Team is taking you down!” Mikey yelled. “Yeah? Well, the R.B team is taking you down!” Raph yelled back.

Leo just smiled.

They started the game, kicking it between the goals.

Donnie and Raph going hard core like usual at each other.

Leo and Raph being an excellent team, but so are Mikey and Donnie.
Their scores kept jumping between the two.

Mikey had kicked the ball out of bounds and saw some kids watching them. “Hey! Want to join the P.O team!?”

“What! No fair! Don’t go recruiting others!” Raph shouted. Mikey stuck his tongue out “All rules apply!”

“Then one of them has to join our team, R.B, it’s only fair” Raph said. “Guys don’t force them to play with us” Leo said reprimanded.

“It’s fine, let’s play!” the two kids, they looked like brothers, split up to the two teams.

The game continued with the two boys.

It became more fun even with Donnie and Raph arguing over petty loses.

Soon more kids showed up, friends of the brothers and they joined in.

“Join the P.O Team!”

“NO! RB!!”

Mikey and Raph were getting way to into the teams. The teams were made equal by Leo and the game continued.

Splinter smiled warmly with his tea as he watched his sons. He had gotten some of the parents to join him. “Your sons are very athletic, are they in any sport?” a father asked. “No, I tutor them at home in academic and in marital arts” he explained “Though technically marital arts would be the sport” he smiled.

It wasn’t unusual for parents to tutor or teach their kids at home.

Splinter didn’t have a job yet, he wouldn’t be able to enrol them into school, not to mention they had false paperwork, wouldn’t want to get into trouble, even if Toph would help.

The game continued until many children were a part of the game, even some older kids joined.

They had many breaks where they sat down by their parents, most who were by Splinter to talk and get names.

“Wait, so you’re a water-bender?” Dan asked as Leo healed a scraped knee. “Yup” Leo cleaned the water. “And your brother is a fire-bender?” Leo nodded. “Donnie is an earth-bender” he commented “Mikey is a non-bender”

“How does that work?!” Saren asked.

Donnie sat down with his sandwich. “Well, in our family line, our dad’s father might have been a fire-bender, and that’s how Raph is one, can be said about all of us. Bending is the same with hair color and race, normally you’d take traits and color from your parents but also your ancestors” he explained.

“I think that makes sense?” Dan tilted his head. Donnie rolled his eyes. “Please it’s not that complicated” he munched his sandwich.

“Is that why you all different races?” Dan asked. “I guess, we never met our mother, so could have been her, or one of our ancestors” as soon as lunch was finished, they went back to the game.

The score was very close to a tie, but Mikey distracted Leo, kicking the ball to Han who scored.

The girl keeping score, Missy, said PO Team won by one point.

“Yes!” The all cheered “What does P.O and R.B stand for?” a little one asked. “Purple and Orange” Mikey grinned. “Red and Blue” Raph answered.

“Why?”

“It’s our favorite colors” Leo pointed out. “Raph’s is red, mine is blue, Don’s is purple, and Mikey’s is orange” he said.

“ooooh” it was also obvious with their outfits.

They stopped the game at this point to rest. When Mikey ran to a rock yelling “King of the Hill!!!” he climbed on the rock. “Hey! Mikey!!” Raph chased after him. Soon everyone was running and pushing.

Mikey still came out top at the end “No one will take me down!” he laughed. Leo then came behind him and pushed. Mikey fell, landing safety. Leo had a big smile on and his arms up in the air in cheer.

“LEO!?” Leo smirked.

They played a few rounds of King of the Hill when it got late.

Everyone had to go home. The boys all waved goodbye to their new friends, some even inviting them next weakened to play which they agreed to.

They leave the park buzzing with excitement.

They all had fun playing and making friends. Splinter also making some friend with the parents. “Can we get dinner?” Mikey asked. “That all depends on if we have money Michael” Donnie checked his purse “I should have enough for dinner from that machine I fixed” he mumbled.

“Only if you wish to, my son” Donnie smiled “I don’t mind”

Mikey cheered hugging Donnie.

They found a smaller and cheap earth kingdom restaurant and sat down.

Mikey spoke about their game, like Splinter wasn’t watching when Donnie noticed something.

The restaurant was a bit run down, and investigating further, he sees this was their last day in business.

Getting up, telling Splinter he’s going to order, he moved to the kitchen with everyone orders. “Hello? Were ready to order?” the man at front nodded looking tired. “Right, what will it be?”

“We will have a plate of dumplings to share and a shared plate of meat kebobs and the drinks a pot of tea and a mango smoothie” he listed it off.

The man nodded and went off to cook their orders. Donnie watched him work before not taking it anymore. “That stove is horrible, here, let me fix it” he takes out his tools he always carries around and got to work. The owner was too shocked to say anything until the stove was working right.

“How- did you do that?!” he asked. “I studied how to make stoves a while ago, to see if I could make one for home” he shrugged.

“Now, you can cook meals, but if I had more supplies, I could make it better…” he mumbled. “Donatello?” Splinter walked up “Oh sorry sen-dad, I was just helping the owner out” Donnie said.

Splinter smiled “I can see that; did you ask if you can help?”

“Kind of…” Donnie looked away. Splinter patted his head “Your generosity and kindness will always trump and good work on the stove” he smiled. Donnie grinned “I have wanted to look at a real stove to finally update our spit and fire one, I should tell Mikey, we can look for parts soon!!”

He rushed off to tell his brothers.

Splinter chuckled “I apologize for my son, too curious for his own good”

“I- uh he just fixed my stove that was causing me to lose business, with just a few parts …” he said in disbelief.

Splinter smiled proudly. All his sons were genius in their own right. Leo for his discipline in ninjutsu, Mikey for language and empathy, Raph for his artistic skills and Donnie for anything that grabs his interest. “I’ll pay you in food!” the owner was suddenly cooking fast.

“Thank you” splinter sat down and listened to his sons talk happily about the stove. Mikey very happy he will finally be able to make some meals he’s been wanting to try out.

The meal was great, so wonderful Mikey threw the owner a picture.

Donnie tried to pay but the owner insisted they paid when he fixed his stove.

It was now getting dark, so Splinter said it’s time to go home, but on their way there Leo saw a bookstore and asked to quickly look around.

He agreed and the boys spread out to look around.

Leo found his favorite series of books. Raph joined him “can’t believe you like that stuff’ Leo rolled his eyes “it’s a best unknown world, to explore, adventure in the sky? How can you not?!”

“Because it’s terrible, and the characters are badly written” Raph found the next book to his favorite book series.

AS they checked the prices, they noticed something.

The untrained eye (and any ninja who didn’t have Mikey as a sibling) on one would have noticed.

On top of the rafters of the store, there was someone watching. Leo made eye-contact with Raph, who did the same.

It was a foot ninja. Why were they here? Leo couldn’t think of why now, his family could be in danger.

Luckily a ninja always carries a weapon on them. For this case though, Leo used the moister in the air to make water.

Just as he felt something coming towards him, danger, he threw it up, turning into ice shards as it did.

Raph hands lit on fire just as Leo dodged the kunai.

Leo had enough trust in Raph that he could control his bending in a flammable place.

The foot ninja fell, an ice shard had struck their shoulder. Leo quickly blocked a kick and Raph attacked punched the ninja away from his brother.

Splinter had just turned the corner when the ninja threw a smoke bomb and disappeared.

“Uh…” Leo stared dumbly at his father. Splinter’s human face was pale white as he stared at his sons. “Dad?” Raph asked.

Splinter took a deep breath “We will be discussing this at home, for now, Donatello has offered to pay for any books you want” he said.

They both nodded and grabbed the books they wanted.

Mikey was beaming when they arrived “Donnie said he’s going to make a radio!” he said. “Really?” Leo asked putting his book down. Donnie nodded showing his pile of books “there was a book on radios and how to make one” he said with a smile.

Don paid even though they all did something to make on their journey, Donnie was the only one who made regular money.

(They didn’t have to worry; their little garden was enough for them for food.

Clothing, Splinter had made when they were little, when Leo and Mikey took interest to help and make their own clothes. Then making for Raph and Donnie. They all knew how to sew)

They were finally on their way home. Once they put everything away, Splinter had them sit down in the pit, and asked of the foot ninja.

“You were attacked?! By a Foot?” Donnie asked concerned. “We saw them before they could surprise them, they are an amateur on sneaking around, Mikey wouldn’t even be spotted” Leo smiled.

“Like a turtle do!” Mikey grinned. “Please my sons, focus” Splinter scolded. “Sorry Sensei” Leo bowed.

“We ran into them a lot” he started “Mostly just finding them at night trying to steal something, we would stop them, we didn’t know they were ninja at first, just some thieves trying to steal something”

“I put it together they were ninja of some clan, they left a symbol at one of their assassinations attempts they succeeded” Donnie said darkly.

Mikey frowned sadly. “It was merely coincidence we kept running into them when they would try and steal or assassinate someone”

“We only found out what their clan was called the day we returned home, and that their main base is here, in Republic city” Leo said.

Splinter hummed stroking his beard “This is most concerning” he thought for a moment.

“You are old enough to know” he decided. The four sat at attention. Last time their father said something like that, he told them the Hamato clan’s death.

“Years ago, before I found you four, I lived with my clan, the Hamato. We were a hidden clan of ninja, one of many, we took pride in our spiritual connection and bonds. We could even rival the avatars. Our sworn duty was to protect our own and the spirits, we were spirit friends, as you know I was cursed by a spirit because of my arrogance. I had a brother, not of blood but bond. We were great friends and even better partners on missions. We would rival over many things, trying to best each other” Splinter smiled sadly.

“When I came of age, I met Tang Shen, My love. At first, I and her never saw eye to eye, my arrogance blinded me for so many years until I saw I loved her, she had waited for me, and we bonded, promising each other for life” Splinters eyes grew heavy. “My brother was also in love with Shen, but knew he would never be chosen, Oroku Saki, his name, he found his birth right of the Footclan, an enemy ninja clan.

The Foot have done many, many terrible things until The Hamato brought them down, and my father adopted Saki when he was just a baby. Saki had found the truth and betrayed our clan” Splinters ears had folded against his head.

“In the fight, a fire had started and killed Tang Shen, and my daughter”

The four turtles gasped; Mikey was in tears “We would have had an Ane?” he cried. “Yes, I couldn’t save her” Splinter let Mikey climb onto his lap to hug him “If you have seen the Foot, it means no good for us, Saki threatened vengeance last I saw him, we have keep vigilance” He smiled proudly “I truth you to protect each other and watch the Foot but please, come to me if it’s anything you can’t handle” he said “Don’t go risking a fight if you can get away with a sneak attack”

Leo smiled, tears in his eyes “We won’t let the Hamato clan down, Sensei!” he bowed, and they all did. They were the last of the Hamato clan, they could do their ancestors proud by defending their new home.

Chapter 23: Air Temple Island

Summary:

Mikey and family get a tour of Air Temple Island.

Notes:

Just saying, I have no idea how the tours work on the island, so I just went with it.

Chapter Text

Splinter stared them on the next level of training the next day, they were done with the basics and were moving up to the intense training.

It kept them busy, along with school and bending training.

Their little forest was untouched thanks to Leatherhead and Slash. They learned so much more of their history and fighting styles.

Donnie also got their kitchen working so Mikey could finally cook better.

They still made time for park visits, Splinter still wanted his sons to play and have fun. Even with the heavy burden of the clan. Leo wanted them to start patrols to keep an eye on the foot, but Splinter was hesitate, asking to at least train for two months before they go.

They caught up with Lin and Suylin as well but otherwise stuck with training.

Mikey was finally doing this; he was jumping with excitement, he could finally actually help the air acolytes.

Donnie and Leo were also excited to learn about the air nomads, dad and Raph were mainly there to watch them,

“This is so exciting, learning about an almost dead culture” Donnie liked anything avatar, so it made sense to why he was excited, Mikey already knew a bit about their culture, sneaking onto the island many times, he was excited to hear it from the source.

Leo just loved history and culture. “Hope they have food” Raph grumbled. “You think they will share stories on Avatar Aang?” Donnie asked.

“You know you can ask your master’s on him; she has shared many stories of her time with him” Leo pointed out.

“She always mocks him and as funny as those are, I want some of his adult years, Toph-sensei doesn’t know the details of that” he explained.

“I’m sure we will learn a lot from this trip my sons” Splinter said.

The boat finally stopped, and they left.

While the air temple was a tourist stop, no one was allowed on the island without permission. Toph helped them out and are now getting a tour.

“Hello, you must be the Hamato’s?” an old man dressed as an air monk. “Hai, I am Hamato Yoshi, and these are my sons, Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michealangelo” Splinter introduced.

They all said their greetings with a bow.

The tour was nice, a history and culture lesson as they went. Leo and Donnie asked a lot of questions, Mikey took in the culture. They were fed lunch and Mikey asked about their traditional food.

He learned that the air nomads put care in love into their meals and loved to experiment. They also used their air bending to make some of their meals and treats.

Mikey couldn’t’ wait to test it at home.

After lunch they checked the training area and Mikey really wanted to try the air bending gates.

“Can we try?” he asked. The monk paused “I’m sure you can, allow me to fetch Avatar Aang or his son to start it” he smiled.

“You sure Mikey?” Raph asked.

They still didn’t want to stand out too much, it was still risky for them to be out. “I’m sure, besides even a non-bender can do it” he grinned.

They didn’t wait long, Aang appearing “Your friends of Toph?” he asked friendly.

“Yup, she taught Donnie, and we are friends with her daughters” Mikey said smiling brightly. Donnie, Leo and Raph stared at the avatar taking him in.

“It’s always nice to meet one of Toph’s students, the ones who can survive them are always very strong” he smiled, and Donnie went red.

“You wanted to try the gates?” he asked. Mikey nodded “Please?”

“Of course, I’m always happy to let others try”

He had them stand back and expertly made a gust of wind, making all the gates spin. Mikey watched with stars in his eyes.

“Now, to get through them, you have to move like the wind, to switch directions quickly and avoid hitting the gates” he explains “I will demonstrate, then the first can go” he said before moving through the gates expertly.

Once he made it to the other side the spinning the gates again.

“Mikey you want to go first?” Leo asked. “Nah, you go first bros” he smiled.

Leo titled his head but shrugged. He took a breath and went through.

He was doing very well, Aang watched a bit surprise how well he was doing. He hit only two as he exits.

“That was amazing” Leo smiled under the praise and Splinter patted his head.

“My turn!” Raph was alright the first couple of steps, before he got knocked around in the middle.

His brothers hissed at the sounds and Raph yelling. He was pouting when he came over, and Leo healed is bruises. “That’s a lot harder than you make it look” he said. Aang chuckled “It does take focus and patience”

“Something that Raph doesn’t’ have” Donnie teased. “Yea? Well, I’d like to see you try” Raph pushed Leo aside, refusing anymore healing.

“I will do better then you!” Donnie walked over and moved through.

He didn’t move like Leo but avoided the gates well enough until the end where he got distracted and hit a gate.

“Ow” Donnie mumbled.

“See, not so easy” Raph grinned.

“Still did better than you” Donnie grinned. Raph growled. Aang redid the gates and Mikey got ready.

He took a breath and ran through the gates he moved with the wind just like the bison showed him. His brothers cheered once he was done, and he beamed.

“He is a non-bender, right?” Aang asked “Yes, I do train him in bending kata’s to help his spiritual flow, and teach all my sons in martial arts” Splinter said. “He moved like an air-bender guess those exists” Aang had a sad smile on.

“Most impressive Michelangelo, you moved well”

“Thank you Aang!” Mikey bowed. Aang took control of the tour after that, going over the many training areas and letting the brothers try even introducing them to the bison.

Raph was swarmed by the baby’s and said it was the best part of the island, they all agreed.

“Aang?” they turned and saw Katara. Leo fan boy at seeing a senior student to Puku. “Katara, sorry I got distracted” Aang laughed nervously. She rolled her eyes and smiled at the boys “Hello, you are enjoying your time here?” she asked “Yes!” Mikey grinned.

“That’s good, I was making dinner, are you going to join?” she asked.

“Thank you, but no, we have guests coming over tonight” Splinter bowed. Mikey tugged on his robe “Can I come over again?” he asked.

Katara and Aang awwed at the cuteness.

“Only if you’re allowed to Michelangelo and your work is done” Splinter said.

Mickey turned to Aang, shyly fiddling with his hands, his curly hair flowing in the wind. “Is it okay if I can come over?” he asked.

“Of course, I’ll let the head Monks know you will be a frequent visitor” he smiled.

Mikey beamed and cheered with Leo, who swing Mikey around.

They said their farewells Raph struggling to leave the bison. “Did you enjoy yourselves my sons?”
Splinter asked as they arrived on the mainland. “Yup! Very knowledgeable, I think I can make you a glider Mikey”

Donnie grinned. “That will be so awesome D!” Mikey grinned ‘I’ll have to do more research, but I think I can do it”

“Can we make it orange?”

Leo smiled “we can go to the second-hand fabric shop for material” he said. “Just be careful, don’t want anyone seeing you flying around” Raph said.

Mikey was too excited to answer, he was jumping around and making exciting sounds.

The brothers were used to their little sibling doing this, so they didn’t bat an eye.
