Chapter Text
Ling Chen was a vessel without a goal. Only breathing, not living but still slowly being filled up.
Because no vessel can be left unfilled.
The thing that had filled Ling Chens vessel was a black void. Drop by thick drop of frighteningly black emptiness gathered from bottom to top.
Ye Zimu loved to fill his surroundings with greatness. The same greatness he hoped to fill himself with. His vessel was also empty in a way but he strived to fill it with light instead of darkness, so that nobody would ever be able to find his imperfection.
When he first took notice of Ling Chen, he saw his lifeless eyes and listless body get beaten up by their schoolmates. He decided in a split second to rescue his classmate, the quiet and empty child, not because of who he was but because Ye Zimu always helped anyone in need. But even then, emptiness could only remain emptiness. It could not be filled with the kindness, the greatness Ye Zimu liked to show everyone.
Ling Chen refused his outstretched hand and walked away in silence, beaten and bruised. Alone.
As alone as Ye Zimu felt deep in his heart.
A slight throb cut through his heart and he watched the hunched over body leaving his line of sight. And then he closed his eyes, leaving the school grounds and getting back to his routinous life. Planned out thoroughly from the first second of his awakening in the morning to his last breath before sleeping at night.
Monotonous as he believed it would always be.
This believe cracked for the first time when a weak but furious kitten tried to scratch him with a box cutter in one paw.
“I want to finish the unfinished business!”
Ye Zimus breath got stuck in his throat as he saw the blade flying towards him. His body automatically bended backwards, as far as the chair let him go and for a short moment, he thought he would have to die but... the blade never reached him.
He opened his eyes, staring at the glistening metal swinging up and down in front of his nose and Ling Chen, frozen at the edge of his desk. Their teacher, Miss Sun, lifted him by the collar, as easily as one would lift a little flower bouquet. Of course, she was a young alpha and as such had enough strength to her slender arms to do that. Still, lifting the kitten, correction, lifting Ling Chen up like that shouldn't look as easy.
Or maybe he shouldn't be surprised? Ye Zimu could remember the slim frame of his classmate trotting away. There couldn't be much under the thin summer uniform. So, Ling Chen was probably as light as a feather for every and any person, regardless of their gender.
Ye Zimu clenched his fist unconsciously.
Nevertheless, he was rescued now.
//Or was it a joke?//
The corners of his mouth lifted up. Of course, it had to be a joke! Some kind of joke Ye Zimu didn't get and now Ling Chen had to take the blame, being dragged away to their teacher’s office.
//I hope he'll be fine.//
