Lightning Bolt

Summary:

During a boring day at STAR Labs, Cisco comes up with the brilliant plan to run their DNA samples against the STAR Labs database to see if they have any cousins out there they don't know about, as he is convinced he has a few. Barri and Caitlin decide to join in, thinking it would be a fun idea. When Barri's results match up against a thief which then connects her to a supervillain, she has to come to terms with the fact that she has a much larger family out there than she could possibly imagine.

Over in Star City, Tommy Merlyn is still coming to terms with the fact that his father is now the new Ra's al Ghul, and leader of the League of Assassins. He and Laurel are still going strong, but they both have found themselves thinking about the adorable speedster with brown hair, hazel eyes, and the brightest smile they'd ever seen that occasionally pops in to town.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Bernice Allen’s life has been a series of ups and downs. She was raised by two loving parents, Henry and Nora Allen, and loved her life. When she was eleven years old, she witnessed the impossible; a man in red and yellow lightning circling her mother on the floor. She remembered her dad telling her to run, barely heard over the screams from her mother. The next thing she knew, she was outside, blocks away from her home.

Her mother was murdered by the man in yellow and her dad was arrested for the crime. She tried explaining to anyone that listened what had actually happened, but no one believed her. Her psychologist said, ‘it was her brain’s way of protecting her.’

What a bunch of bullshit. Barri knew exactly what she saw that night and she knew she wasn’t imagining things. She was taken in by detective Joe West, the father to Barri’s best friend, Iris, and was raised alongside her. She got her Master’s in Forensics and was the assistant CSI at the Central City Police Department where Joe worked. When Barri and Iris were almost teenagers, but not quite old enough to be left alone for too long according to Joe, he took them into the precinct with him occasionally. It was during that time where Barri knew that’s where she belonged; putting away the people that did kill their wives, or making sure that those innocent of the accused crimes were proven correctly.

Her two favorite detectives to talk to, besides Joe of course, was detective Fred Chyre, Joe’s partner, and detective David Singh. Chyre always had candy at his desk for them, and Singh would help Barri with her homework for her advanced classes as Joe was no help. She always knew that detective Chyre favored Iris, as she was his partner’s actual daughter, but Singh seemed to favor Barri.

Thankfully, that was something that never seemed to change. He got promoted to Captain around the same time as Barri was hired on as the assistant CSI. She somehow managed to keep her job no matter how many times she was late and he only raised a dark eyebrow at her when she had a not so believable excuse as to why she was late.

And then lightning struck.

Barri was in a coma for nine months. She missed Chyre’s death and the blossoming of Iris’ relationship with the new detective from Keystone, Eddie Thawne. It didn’t take her long to discover that metahumans now existed from the particle accelerator exploding, herself included. She became a speedster known as the Flash. There were others like her, and it became her duty to stop those that were attempting to harm others.

The man in the red lightning came back, and Barri realized that he was just like her, but how was he around fifteen years before the particle accelerator exploded? Things just weren’t adding up to her.

Some of her enemies came together becoming a group called the Rogues led by Leonard Snart, or as he preferred to go by, Captain Cold, who was a master thief. Thankfully, she and Snart had a deal where she wouldn’t arrest them as long as no one got hurt and there was no collateral damage. Snart knew who she was under the mask, and Barri suspected that Mick Rory, Heatwave and also Snart’s husband, knew who she was as well.

It was discovered that man in the red lightning was named Eobard Thawne, a man from the future, who hated Barri, but needed her to get back home. He had been disguising himself as Doctor Harrison Wells for fifteen years, killing the original Harrison Wells and taking his place. She was offered the chance to go back and save her mom, but another version of Barri stopped her. She stopped Thawne from going back to the future, but he was still faster than her, and when he was about to deliver the finishing blow, Eddie, his great, great, great grandfather, shot himself in the chest.

Eddie was touch and go for a while, but he did technically die for a minute and Eobard Thawne was erased from the timeline. It created a singularity, a black hole of sorts, above Central that would inevitably eat everything in its path. Barri ran in the opposite direction, and Professor Stein and Ronnie Raymond, two men who fused together becoming Firestorm, flew up into the singularity at the same time as she was up there and released an explosion of fire in the center, disrupting the singularity and dispersing it.

Unfortunately, Ronnie didn’t make it, which meant that Caitlin, one of Barri’s best friends, lost her husband for the second time in as many years. Caitlin took a sabbatical, not that anyone could blame her, and Cisco, the other brain behind Team Flash and STAR Labs, took some time to be with family for a bit.

Thankfully, after a couple of months, Team Flash came back together better than ever. Caitlin pulled Barri aside one night, telling the speedster that she hoped Caitlin didn’t make her feel guilty for what happened to Ronnie, and that she didn’t blame her. Barri felt like a huge weight was lifted off of her shoulders at Caitlin’s words and she almost cried.

About a week later, team Flash was having a super boring day. There wasn’t any crime being committed that Barri needed to handle as the Flash, so the three of them were bored at the lab. Cisco was spinning lazily in his chair while Caitlin was reading a magazine, and Barri was playing a game on her phone.

“Have either of you wanted to see if your parents were lying to you about how many family members you actually have?” Cisco stated out of literally nowhere. Barri and Caitlin shared a confused glance before turning their gazes to the engineer.

“Um, no,” Barri answered.

“Where did that come from, Cisco?” Caitlin questioned with a head tilt.

“I just have a gut feeling that I have more cousins than my family is letting on,” he continued.

“And what do you want to do about it?”

“We have the second-best hacking software at our disposal; let’s use it!”

“You seriously want to hack into DNA databases to see if you have more family out there?” Barri snorted.

“That’s illegal,” Caitlin pointed out.

“Would be kind of fun, though,” Barri added.

“Barri!” Caitlin admonished. “Don’t feed into this!”

“What? The only family I know of is my dad! I think it’d be cool to find more,” she defended, finally placing her phone down.

“See, Caitlin? Barri’s on board. Two against one, so you lose.” Caitlin’s disappointed frown turned a glare as Barri laughed lowly.

“At least Barr’s reasoning makes actual sense,” Caitlin shot back.

“Well, that’s a little mean.” Cisco sounded so affronted it made Barri laugh a bit more. Caitlin let out a sigh, eyes rolling up to stare at the ceiling in exasperation.

“Fine,” she groaned. “Let’s break the law to see if Cisco has some unknown cousins!”

“Barri, too,” Cisco pointed out. “This is really for her.” Both Caitlin and Barri raised an eyebrow at him, not believing Cisco in the slightest.

“Let’s get this over with.”

~||~

It took longer than Cisco anticipated for their DNA to go through every database, and Caitlin’s was the first to come back.

“Huh,” she said, staring at her results. “I have a great aunt in Star City.”

“That’s cool!”

“I didn’t even know I had a great aunt,” she continued, staring at the results, puzzled. “Maybe I should call my mom sometime soon.”

~||~

“Aw, man!” Cisco groaned as soon as his results were shown. “It’s the same stupid cousins I already knew about.”

~||~

Barri’s were the real shocker. Her results appeared two days after Cisco’s. There was a ninety eight percent match to a diamond thief from Coast City, California. A woman named Selina Dayne. She had hazel eyes the same shade as Barri’s, and brown hair. “This doesn’t make any sense,” Barri complained, but in her heart, she knew. She knew that this woman was related to her.

But how?

Chapter 2: ONE

Chapter Text

“Maybe your mom or dad have siblings that they never told you about,” Cisco tried.

“Her DNA match would not be that high of a percentage for an aunt,” Caitlin answered, and Cisco visibly deflated.

“I have to talk to my dad,” Barri sighed, rubbing at her head. The percentage of shared DNA clearly meant a direct relation. This woman, Selina Dayne, was her mother. Which meant that Nora Allen was not.

Were Henry and Nora swingers? Did Henry cheat? She quickly shut that line of thought down quickly. There was a higher chance of her parents being swingers in their youth that one of them cheating. She excused herself, pulling her phone out to call her dad. Last she checked, he was somewhere in Florida, enjoying the Keys.

Hey, Barri!” Henry greeted, sounding just as warm as usual.

“Hey, dad.”

You okay? You don’t sound good,” he questioned, concerned. Barri bit her bottom lip, worrying it between her teeth for a second before releasing.

“I found something out that I need to talk to you about. Do you mind if we do it person?” Henry was quiet for a heartbeat before sighing in a way that made the hairs on the back of neck stand up.

I have a feeling I know what this is about. I’m in Louisiana. New Orleans.

At least it’s not Mardi Gras, Barri thought before letting her dad know she’d be there in a couple of hours.

“I’ll be back, guys,” she said before flashing off towards New Orleans.

~||~

It took her two and half hours to get there after stopping to accept a phone call from Cisco – he wanted her to bring him and Caitlin back some food. She agreed, deciding she would get some for herself, too. She’d never had food from Louisiana before which she now thought was a tragedy.

She texted her father once she was in New Orleans, finding his hotel pretty quickly. She knocked on his room door and was immediately grabbed in a huge hug.

“Hey, Bare!” Henry said and Barri wasted no time in hugging him back.

“Hey, dad!” She pulled back to smile brightly at him. “You enjoying your site seeing?”

“I really am, Bare,” he sighed, stepping back to let her in. “So much has changed since I was out. It’s a lot to take in, but I’m really enjoying myself.” Barri smiled gently.

“I’m glad to hear it, dad.” Henry took a seat on the bed, patting the spot next to him. Barri sat down, turning a bit to face him. “Dad, who’s Selina Dayne?”

“Okay, we’re going to jump right into it,” Henry muttered before rubbing a hand down his face. Barri noticed that he looked years older just from that one question and it raised numerous alarms in her head.

“Dad?” She pressed.

“Selina Dayne is your mother.” Even though Barri knew that was going to come out of his mouth logically, it didn’t stop the clench of her chest at the revelation.

“Why didn’t anyone tell me?” Barri questioned, voice tight with emotion. “How is mom not my mom?” Henry sighed again.

“Bare, honey, you were so young when you came to us-”

Came to you?” Barri interrupted, catching the slip as the tightening of chest increased. “What do you mean?”

“Nora did not give birth to you, no,” he started.

“And you?” She whispered, tears springing to her eyes. “Are you not my dad?”

“Bernice Henrietta Allen, I was always be your dad,” Henry said sternly, making sure that Barri was looking him in the eyes before he continued. “But, I’m not your biological father,” he admitted and Barri’s heart broke.

“Why didn’t anyone tell me?” She repeated.

“I didn’t want to see the look on your face that you have right now,” he said and then wrapped her up in a hug when a sob burst through. She buried her face in Henry’s chest, feeling tears hit the top of her head, too. She pulled back after a couple of minutes, wiping the tears off of her cheeks.

“How did you get me, then? Dayne’s a thief; did she have me in prison or something? Or was it your clinic?”

“She gave birth to you in prison,” he confirmed. “From what the lawyer that helped us with your adoption said she signed her rights away pretty quickly.”

“And my father?” Henry shrugged.

“I never saw your original birth certificate, Bare. Never cared to. As far as Nora and I were concerned, you were ours the second we signed on the dotted line.” A warmth settled in Barri’s chest at his words. It was comforting to know that no matter what, Henry loved her, and would always be her dad.

“Would you be upset if I investigated?” She questioned hesitantly. There was a part of her that just wanted to know.

“Of course not, Barri. It’s your choice, always has been.”

~||~

Barri and Henry talked for a couple of more hours, going to lighter topics of conversation after a bit. Before Barri left, she bought a bunch of food, triple bagging it so it wouldn’t tear during the run and then made her way back to Central.

When she arrived, Caitlin and Cisco were both waiting and she sat their food in front of them before taking a seat in another chair with her own food.

“How did it go?” Cisco questioned around a mouthful of food.

“I’m adopted,” Barri answered bluntly.

“Holy crap, really?” She nodded and Caitlin reached forward to put a hand on her arm.

“Are you okay?” Barri thought about it for a moment before nodding.

“I think I am. Dad made it clear that no matter what, I’m his, even though it’s not biologically.”

“What are you going to do?” Cisco asked.

“I’m going to track down my original birth certificate,” she answered. “See if I can find any information on my birth father.”

“Henry was okay with that?” Caitlin quired and Barri nodded.

“He fully supports whatever decision I make regarding this.”

“Okay, tracking down your birth certificate,” Cisco repeated. “Sounds easy enough.” Barri smiled at the support her two best friends were showing her, and it made that warm spot she felt earlier from her dad grow a bit more.

“You guys are the greatest,” she whispered, feeling tears spring to her eyes again.

“We’re here for you, dude,” Cisco grinned, patting her on the shoulder while Caitlin rubbed her arm gently as they continued eating.

Barri’s phone let out a shrill chime signaling a call coming in. Barri sniffed, looking at the caller ID. “Shit,” she cursed, seeing the photo she had for Captain Singh pop up. “Hi, Captain,” she greeted when she answered the phone.

Allen, I need you to come in,” he said in his normal gruff tone.

“Yes, sir, I’ll be at the station soon,” she said before hanging up. “I’ll see you guys later, and seriously, thank you.”

Barri flashed off towards her apartment that she moved into a few months previous to change her clothes. She didn’t feel safe at Joe’s anymore after the revelation that EoWells had cameras everywhere and had watched her grow up. Joe understood, but he seemed a bit sad that she was moving back out.

She put on a long-sleeved black shirt and a pair of washed out jeans and some black converse before making her way to the station. When she opened the doors she saw Captain Singh standing in the middle of the bullpen talking to Eddie who had recently come back to work, though he was stuck riding his desk for a few more months.

“Hey, Bare,” the blonde man greeted warmly.

“Hi, Eddie,” she smiled back.

“Glad to see you made it on time, Allen,” Singh commented lightly making Barri deflate a bit. It wasn’t always her fault she was late. Just, most of the time. “You’ll be riding with me to crime scene; I’ll brief you on the way there.” Barri nodded, running up the steps at normal speeds to grab her pack from her lab before rushing back down to meet Singh at the door.

They made their way out to his SUV, Barri climbing into the passenger seat and buckling in. They drove in silence for about a minute before Singh glanced at her. “Are you alright, Allen?” The questioned startled her, not expecting for him to notice anything was wrong.

“What?”

“Your eyes are red rimmed and your cheeks are pale,” he pointed out. “You’ve been crying.” Barri just blinked at him in confusion. “Allen, I was a detective for years before becoming Captain,” he pointed out, which, fair.

“Um, yeah. Yeah, I’m okay, just got some bad news today. Nothing to be concerned about,” she answered.

“Bad news, huh?” He hummed. “Well, if you want to talk about it, my doors always open.” Barri smiled. She always knew that Singh had a soft spot for her.

“Thank you, Captain, I really appreciate it.” He nodded once before diving into the crime scene they were on their way to. It was what was looking like a murder/suicide, and Singh wanted her on the scene to confirm it. They pulled up to one of the nicer apartment buildings in Central, police tape across the front door. Singh led her in and up two flights of stairs before coming to room three-oh-five. They ducked under some more police tape, and Barri was slightly surprised at the amount of carnage that was in the living room.

Not only was there blood splattered everywhere in the living room from the male victim lying on the floor, but there were also what appeared to be multiple weapons on the floor. A woman was in the kitchen, slumped in the corner with her throat slashed open and a butcher knife lying next to her hand. Barri looked at the blood splatter next to her and frowned, head tilting.

“Allen?” Singh prompted, clearly watching her reaction.

“The blood splatter’s not right,” she said. “If she had slit her own throat, the blood splatter would be here,” she said, motioning in the general area across from the body. “Not next to her. I’m going to need more evidence, but I’m not certain this was a murder/suicide.” Singh nodded telling her to collect as much as she needed.

When she finished, Singh was still with Joe, who had appeared a few minutes after them, and they were interviewing people.

“Need a ride back to the station, Allen?” A new detective, Patty Spivot, questioned.

“Yeah, sure. Thanks, detective.” The detective smiled, eyes crinkling in the corners.

“You can just call me Patty.”

“Then, you can call me Barri.”

“Well, then, let’s head out, Barri.” Barri nodded, quickly telling Singh and Joe that she had finished processing the scene and was heading back to the station with Patty. They both nodded, and Barri followed the blonde out to her squad car. They made small talk on the way back, and she learned that Patty had recently graduated college with a triple masters and aspired to be a CSI. She also asked if Barri would mind her visiting her in the lab to see what she was doing and learn. Of course, Barri said yes.

When they made it back to the station, Barri saw she had a couple of missed calls from both Caitlin and Cisco, and immediately called Cisco back as soon as she was alone in her lab. He answered quickly.

Barri, you are never going to guess what we found!

“Is it a meta? Do you need the Flash?”

No, dude, it’s about you. I’m emailing over everything I just found and let me tell you it did not take a lot of digging and I’m kicking myself that we missed this while we were looking him up before,” he rambled.

“Looking up who?” Barri questioned.

It’s a lot to explain over the phone, so you should really just look at your email.” They hung up, and she pulled up her email on her phone, going through the information Cisco sent over. It detailed Dayne’s pregnancy while in prison and had her medical records. The past piece of information was her birth certificate. She enlarged the image and froze at what she read. To the right of Selina Dayne’s name was another name that she recognized immediately.

Leonard Snart.

Chapter 3: TWO

Chapter Text

Leonard Snart. The name stared back at Barri almost tauntingly. It wasn’t his signature. It matched Dayne’s handwriting, so Barri assumed that she wrote his name in. Did he know? Was he aware that he had a child out there? Fuck, was she going to have to tell him? Should she even tell him?

Barri quickly squashed that thought. Of course she needed to tell him. Snart had a right to know that he had a child, even if he ended up wanting nothing to do with her, which she would have been fine with, she supposed. She technically already had a father, so she didn’t need another. She quickly fired off a text to Cisco asking him to have copies of everything printed off for her, and he didn’t even question it. He and Caitlin knew Barri well enough by this point that both of them were probably aware that she was planning on handing over the evidence to Snart to do with as he pleased.

Ever since Snart created his little ‘Rogue Gallery’ with the pipeline escapees, they had all stuck to her no killing rule, which she was thankful for. The only one she’s had to come close to arresting was Axel, Trickster Junior, since then and that was because he accidently caused too big of a disturbance that she couldn’t ignore or brush off like she sometimes could with the others. Lucky for him, Peek-A-Boo and Weather Wizard appeared and created a storm big enough to throw her off and get him away from her before getting themselves to safety. Joe had ignored her for a whole week after that in disappointment. He hated the deal she had with Snart and hated even more that it technically extended to the rest of the Rogues, too.

Barri understood that Joe and Mark Mardon had a past, she truly did, but what Eowells had planned for them all in the pipeline was awful, and she wouldn’t wish that on anyone. None of them deserved that fate. He was just going to let them die, let them be ripped apart when the Particle Accelerator powered up, and for some reason Joe seemed to be behind the decision to leave them there. Barri wasn’t and that was why she went to Snart back then in the first place, and even though he betrayed her, she stood by her choice.

When she was done with work, she sped her way to STAR Labs, Cisco and Caitlin already there, waiting. Barri noticed that both of them looked nervous, and she assumed it had to do with Snart being her biological father. “What’s wrong?” She questioned.

“We, uh, ran into someone outside of Jitters about an hour ago,” Cisco started.

“Who?” She heard movement behind her and turned, eyes widening in surprise when she saw who she thought was EoWells standing there.

“Hi,” the man said.

“I – what- who?” She stuttered, taking a step back towards her friends, nervous. Admittedly, Thawne scared her and made her angry at the same time, so seeing his face again after thinking he was dead was making her head spin.

“I’m Harrison Wells,” he greeted.

“Like, the actual Harrison Wells?”

“Yes, I’m not from this Earth.” Barri’s jaw dropped. “I’m here to help because you’re about to have a speedster problem.”

“His name is Zoom,” Caitlin followed, brown eyes darting towards other Earth Wells for a heartbeat before coming back to Barri. “He’s a speedster from Earth – 2, the same Earth this Wells is from.” Barri’s eyes closed as she reached up to massage her temple, feeling a headache coming on. She heard someone step towards her and opened her eyes. Her green-hazel orbs met Caitlin’s warm brown ones as she handed Barri a file. “Deal with this first, clear your head. The Speedster isn’t here yet, Wells decided to warn us that he’s coming for you. We still have time to plan.”

“Yeah, Bare, go. We know you want to tell him,” Cisco added, smiling over at her. He could tell by the way he was holding himself that he was nervous to be around someone that wore the same face as Thawne. Especially, after Cisco started to get visions of what happened in timeline Barri accidently erased when she time traveled the previous year. Cisco remembered Thawne killing him by shredding his heart. Wells was probably just as terrifying to him as he was to her.

“We don’t have time for whatever it is she wants to do,” Wells snapped, blue eyes cold behind his glasses as he glared at the three of them.

“We’ll make time,” Caitlin countered, narrowing her eyes at the tall man.

“We need to figure out a way to stop Zoom,” Wells argued.

“And we will,” Barri said, and then held up the file in her hand. “After I deal with this.”

She sped out of the cortex, heading towards where she hoped Snart would be; Saints and Sinners. She slowed down about a block away, fixing her dark hair and making sure her shoes weren’t smoking, before heading into the bar. She knew she looked out of place with her red converse, dark skinny jeans, and black long-sleeved shirt that she wore to work, but at the moment she didn’t care. She looked around, noticing a lean form with short dark hair that was turning silver at the bar. She glanced around a bit more and saw some Rogues at a table near the back, but Snart looked alone at the bar. She made her way over, plopping down next to him. His ice blue eyes glanced over at her in surprise.

“What are you doing here, Red? This is no place for someone like you.” Barri studied his features, trying to see if she could spot any similarities between the two of them. “Barri?” Snart tried again, eyebrows furrowing. Barri took a deep breath and placed the folder on the table in front of her and slid it slowly towards him. “What’s this?” He questioned, moving to open it, but she quickly slapped her hand on the folder, closing it.

“Look, I just found out today about what’s here. I swear I didn’t know, and I don’t think you knew, either. You can’t look at it here, though. Please look at this when you’re either alone or with someone you trust completely.” Their eyes met again, and Snart stayed quiet, clearly reading on her own face how serious this was. “After you look over everything, the ball is in your court.” She slipped off the bar stool and was about to walk away when there was deep voice behind her.

“Everything okay, boss?” Mick Rory was standing there, towering over her with his large form. “Hey, Red.”

“Hey,” she greeted back before her brain registered what he just called her. She shot Snart a dark look.

“Don’t look at me,” he snorted, sipping his beer and pulling the folder closer to his body to make sure no one touched it. “You aren’t subtle, kid.”

“Yes, I am,” she pouted, looking a bit glumly at the two villains.

“Half of us have figured out your identity, Red,” Rory rumbled with a deep chuckle. Barri groaned in dismay before turning to head out of the bar.

“Barri?” Snart called, and she stopped, looking back at him. “What did you mean by ‘the ball is in my court’?”

“You’ll understand once you read it,” she replied. “Bye, Snart. Bye, Rory.” She quickly exited the bar, speeding away once she was away from any prying eyes. She stopped at the end of the city line, shaking with nerves. She could go back to STAR Labs, but the Wells copy made her even more nervous. She wanted the man who was the closest thing to an older brother she had.

She wanted Oliver Queen.

~||~

A few hours later, Barri found herself in Starling City, making her way to the Bunker. She put in the password that Oliver told her, glad to see he hadn’t changed it, and made her way down the steps. She could hear the sounds of sparring, and peeked around the corner to see Laurel and Sara sparring with escrima sticks. Laurel seemed to be holding her own pretty well, but Barri could tell that Sara was taking it easy on her.

She sped up to stand beside Oliver, who was watching the two intently, and was pleased to see Diggle flinch on the other side of Oliver, though the masked vigilante didn’t even twitch. “Hey, Bare,” he greeted.

“Hey, Ollie,” she sighed, leaning her head against his shoulder.

“Everything okay?”

“Not really,” she answered, smooshing her face a bit harder into his shoulder, fighting back tears. “It’s been a whirlwind of a few days.”

“Barri!” Sara greeted in a shout, making her way over to the three standing there. She pressed a quick kiss to Oliver’s mouth before tugging Barri into a tight hug. “It’s great to see you!” Barri hugged the blonde back.

“It’s good to see you, too, Sara.” The two pulled back to smile at each other before Laurel pushed her way through to greet the speedster.

“Hey, I hope you’re staying for a bit,” she said with a smile. “If not, Tommy will be upset he missed you.” A light blush dusted Barri’s cheeks at Laurel’s words.

“Yeah, I can stay for a bit.” She pulled out her phone and sent a quick text to Cisco and Caitlin. They both sent a message back asking her to keep them updated. Cisco adding that ‘Wells the Sequel’ was already driving him crazy.

“What’s going on, Bare?” Oliver questioned, looking down at her with his serious face. She took a deep breath and then let it all out in a ramble, starting from Cisco’s idea to recently leaving the bar after giving Snart the information.

“Are you sure it was a good idea to give him that information?” Sara questioned, looking at her with concerned bright blue eyes. “He could use that against you.”

“I don’t think he will,” Barri argued. “Besides, he has the right to know that he had a kid, right?”

“I think you did the right thing,” Laurel countered. “You’re right; something like that shouldn’t stay hidden. He deserved to know.”

“As a father of a daughter,” Diggle started. “If he has a heart, it’s probably going to break knowing that he’s hurt you. I know mine would.”

“He might not even care,” she sighed, sitting down in the chair that Felicity usually sat in, spinning in a circle.

“He’s still following your rules, right? He and his Rogues?” Sara asked, smirking when Barri nodded. “Oh, he’ll care alright.”

~||~

Leonard Snart couldn’t believe what he was reading. “What’s it say, Lenny?” He was sitting in one of their safe houses, Mick and Lisa sitting with him.

“Selina was pregnant,” he answered.

“Selina Dayne? That thief you hooked up with before she got arrested?” Lisa questioned, eyes wide with surprise. He handed her the file almost numbly.

“Why didn’t she tell me? I could’ve-” He paused, fist clenching on his lap. He couldn’t have done anything. He was already raising Lisa at that time, doing his best to protect her from their father. He couldn’t have taken the baby into that home. Lewis probably would’ve killed her.

Would’ve killed Barri. His daughter.

“That’s why she said the ball was in your court,” Mick realized. “She just found out?” Len nodded. He wanted to freeze something. He remembered the things Barri had gone through; her mother being murdered practically in front of her, her father wrongly accused of the crime. She was raised with a foster family because of – the wheelchair guy. Harrison Wells. He had hurt her-

Len paused, eyes widening with realization. He had hurt her. Len himself had shot her with his cold gun, knowing it would injure her. He broke her trust. His chest clenched, and he stood up quickly.

“I need to talk to her,” he announced, grabbing the keys to his bike and throwing on his leather jacket. Lisa and Mick nodded in agreement, Mick grabbing the keys to his truck.

“We’re right behind you,” he said. Len smiled a bit over at his husband before making his way quickly outside and to his bike. He was already down the street before Mick and Lisa climbed into the truck.

The ride was a blur to him as he made his way to STAR Labs. He kicked the bike stand down, climbing off of the bike and hurrying into the building. He found the cortex easily, remembering the way from the last time he was there, and burst in. Ramon and Snow both turned, startled by his entry.

“Where’s Barri? I need to speak to her.”

“She’s out of town, dude,” Ramon said, freezing when Len started to raise his cold gun. “Seriously, she’s not here. She should be back tomorrow.”

“Where is she?” Len questioned. He had so many questions, wanting to know everything about the kid’s life. Wanted to apologize for anything he’s done to hurt her. Wanted to get to know her.

“Starling,” Snow answered. “She’s visiting the Green Arrow.” Len’s eyes narrowed.

“She knows him?”

“Yeah, pretty well, actually,” Ramon answered.

“But, he’s dangerous. He’s killed people. She hates killing,” Len protested, hearing Mick and Lisa finally show up and appear behind him. He heard Mick’s heat gun whirl to life, turning to see him pointing it at a third person that Len didn’t clock in his hurry to talk to Barri. Len looked over and saw Wells. The man who killed Barri’s mother and tried to kill her. He raised his cold gun, pointing it at the man, too.

“Stop, he’s not who you think,” Snow interjected, moving in between the two guns and Wells. The man just looked confused.

“Why is the mayor and his husband here?”

“Snow, who is this?”

“I’m Harrison Wells; the real Harrison Wells.”

“Well, kinda.”
