A museum full of art

Summary:

What If when Rebecca found out she can't have children, she and Ted were already together for a month?

Notes:

Hiiiii, I haven't written in ages but I found this on my drive and I couldn't help but finishing it. It was supposed to be so painful but my mood is not the same so i decided to make it a lot lighter and hopefully fluffer than it was intended. It was inspired by the Van Gogh alive exhibition I went back in high school with my art history class! Enjoy xoxo

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Sadness can take you anywhere. Rebecca knew that better than anyone. This time her sadness took her to the Van Gogh exhibition in town. What better way to cope with her depressive thoughts than to drown them into the paintings of a depressed painter. The moment she entered the exhibition she couldn’t believe her eyes. It wasn't a usual, watch the paintings exhibition. It was like entering into the paintings. They came alive in front of her eyes. Rebecca was looking all around the room with wide eyes, she couldn’t believe there was such beauty into the world of paintings.

She slowly exhaled and started walking deeper into the room, until she reached the centre. Looking all around she felt calmer than before. Her soul was hurting but surrounded by beauty, it became a bit easier. Her mind though wouldn’t stop thinking, running, making the pain worse.

She can’t have children

She knew that it was difficult but Tish really made her hope. Maybe she still had a chance but of course she was naive to believe. It’s the hope that kills you. Looking around her again she saw that people were sitting down on the floor to admire the alive painting they were on. She did the same. Centered herself, made her body look smaller. There, she was safe. In the middle of the sunflower painting. Like a sunflower herself, she always tried to look towards the light but when her skies were always gray, how was she supposed to find the sun?

Her eyes started filling with tears. Once again alone..

“Rebecca?”

Rebecca could recognize that voice everywhere. A voice that at first wanted to keep at arms length but spending time with it, made her fall in love with the warmth that it brings her. She looked up and saw none other than her precious gaffer, Ted.

“Hi, Ted” she tried to smile up at him.

The moment their eyes met, she realized he knew that something was wrong. He sat down next to her.

No words, just them.

Rebecca loved that about him. He knew when to stay quiet, when she needed just his presence. She still wondered how Michelle found him too much. The man, her man, had to correct herself because they were together. It was still fresh, the most beautiful month of her life if she was honest. Ted was everything she needed, supportive, loving, loyal and funny. She loved his puns, even though she would never admit this to anyone. She trusted him more than anyone so maybe it was time to open up her heart to him once more. Maybe she should call it a truth bomb again. Looking around her, bravery overtook her whole body.

“Ted..”

Ted turned to look at her and smiled. She was his sunshine, his sunflower, his home. Some would say a month is not much to know, but he knew she was the love of his life. The woman that someday will call wife, the stepmother to his kid and many more things.

“I can’t have children” she whispered, her voice breaking at the end.

“Oh darlin” he whispered as well and opened up his arm to envelop her in a half hug.

She buried her face into his neck, softly crying for the lost time, for the things Rupert took away from her. Ted held her as close as he could, this beautiful woman deserved the world. He really wanted to kick Rupert in the face preferably.

“Hey” he whispered to her but she didn’t move, she kept softly crying holding him as closer as she could, he didn’t complain at all of course.

“We can adopt a beautiful girl that will grow up being just like her mother, fierce, a lion. She will boss me around like her mother does and we will have our morning ritual as well biscuits with the baby…”

The moment Rebecca heard what he was saying she stopped crying and listened to him talk. He wanted to adopt a baby with her, give Henry a sibling, make her a mum, expand his love to another human being. He would be a perfect father to a girl, she thought. Rebecca looked up at his face, he was still talking, programming their future with their daughter. He was looking all around at the beautiful paintings.

“I will learn how to create hairstyles so I can make her hair everyday if she wants to. We will bake biscuits for you every weekend and bring them to you everyday until she is old enough to go to school. The boys will love her and play with her like they play with Henry. She will be their little sister”

“Ted”

Her voice stopped him from continuing, he dropped his gaze at her.

“I love you so much” she said sweetly and kissed his cheek.

“I would love nothing more to have a family with you”

He smiled so brightly, the sunflower colours all over his face.

“Rebecca, the thing you need to understand is that we are already a family, me, you, Henry and our team and friends. We have a family, we will just expand it a bit. Maybe a few children there is no need to be only one”

Rebecca couldn’t handle it anymore, pushed herself closer to him and kissed him on the lips.

The love of her life

They broke the kiss, smiling to one another.

“Oh, I forgot, I love you too Rebecca. Do you want to have a daughter with me?”

Her smile was so bright, he loved making her happy.

“I would love nothing more than becoming a parent with you, my love”

His smile was so bright, he was looking at his future, so bright, so full of love and pigtails.

“Let’s go, darling we have plans to make”

They got up together, looked around and left, their daughter was out there waiting for them.
