Chapter Text
The great battle on the land of gusu finally ends with a victory of the gusu lan clan.
But there surrounds an air of gloom....with blood and death everywhere......
How can there be content with victory when there is so much sadness around?
People of the gusu clan were happy that the war had ended in their favour...surviving soldiers reunite with their families, shedding happy tears...& order would slowly but definitely be restored back on this divine land.
While there was happiness at one end...There was despair on other...The cloud recesses was brimming with tension....The reason?
On the last day of battle, Wei Wuxian was fatally stabbed by one of the opponent's generals...Quite close to the heart.
Now, He laid in one of the rooms, with doctors and heplers running around frantically and constantly watching over him. His vital signs were not at the best levels but he was still surviving.
" It is Young Master Wei's earnest will to live which still keeps him alive, though not in the best physical state..." one of the doctor tells Lan Wangji. He nodded and thanked the doctor for his service.
The doctor returns back to check Wei Wuxian. Lan Wangji peeps through the window to catch a glimpse of his beloved. He didn't have enough courage to go in the room, though he did once.
Slowly, he makes his way to Cángshū Gé, the clan's large library where he found his older brother and current leader of the clan, Lan Xichen sitting, in a meditative state.
Lan Wangji stands near the entrance, staring at Chénqíng and Suíbiàn, kept in the library for the time being, with tears which still didn't escape his eyes, as he didn't want to break his brother's moment of calmness. He knew how stressed his brother is due to the war.. Being the sect leader he had to lookout for the wellness of the people and help in the restoration of gusu back to its former glory.
This man with an always smiling face had contained within himself a complex web of emotions...he never let the emotions tone him down but they weren't always calm either...so times of meditation did calm the turmoiling emotions down.
Lan Wangji was lost in his thoughts for quite some time before he heard a very gentle voice....
"Wangji, come inside. Why are you standing at the entrance for so long?"
"........yes, Xiongzhang."
He comes in quietly and sits beside his brother.
His brother, he respected him greatly. Xichen was his pillar of strength, since childhood, the only person who could see through Wangji. Xichen respected his ideals and beliefs and swore to always protect his precious younger brother from harm as much as he could. Though he now knew that this role also resided with Wei Wuxian.
Xichen could easily tell what was going on Wangji's mind and understand his feelings even when Wangji doesn't say anything.
And that's why ............
Xichen could clearly sense that his dear brother is not fine.

"Wangji, how is Wei gongzi?"
" There has not been much improvement. The doctors are checking on him all the time."
" I see."
.
.
.
.
.
"...how are you?"
(surprised facial expression)
" ...I am fine Xiongzhang. Why do you suddenly ask?"
" You and I both know that what you said right now was a complete lie. Well half a lie if we consider your physical condition. How are you feeling from within?"
Wangji was at first a bit surprised but instantly understood that there is no hiding from this man. He looked at his brother and then stared into the small candle that was lit at some distance.
".................I am fine Xiongzhang.... I can handle it."
.
.
"I know Wangji, that you are very strong. Strong enough to keep your emotions under check and fulfill all you responsibilities despite having an inner riot. But I understand your feelings of having a loved one who is fighting for his life right now. So, it is very normal to feel upset."
Lan Wangji listened to every word his brother said. He knew that his brother could empathise with him. He knew that this is no time to feel weak and that is why he didn't break his calm demeanour in front of anyone.
But right now
He felt vulnerable.
.
.
.
.
He slowly felt a rush of all the emotions he had been hiding in his heart for all these days after the war, after Wei Wuxian was hurt. These emotions threaten to break the composure that he maintained.
"Wangji, I am here. If you want to let out those tears, please do. Don't keep such a heavy burden on your heart. I am willing to listen to whatever you wish to say. You can let yourself be free from your inner turmoil. Atleast for now."
These words were said with such softness and gentleness....that it broke the wall surrounding Lan Wangji.
The held tears began flowing freely now.
Chapter Text
(The first dialogue is of Lan Xichen)
"Wangji, I am glad that for once in so many years..you didn't hold back your feelings....I am here for you always. Please let out the turmoil." Xichen couldn't bear to see his little brother so woeful and dejected...and wanted him to speak his heart out...just for now.
.
.
.
.
.
.
"Xiongzhang, I...I.........I- am so scared. What if something bad happens? What if..........what if he doesn't make it? I love him so much..he is my everything now...I can't bear the thought of being separated again like we did 23 Years back......"
.
.
.
He sobbed as he spoke, words just wouldn't come out. The only picture that lays in front of him now is of Wei Wuxian....his only concern is Wei Wuxian....
Wei wuxian is his everything now...he is his lifeline...he will willingly give up on his life if it meant saving the most precious person...
His soulmate......
His Wei Wuxian.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
"Why did this have to happen to him? He has always been such a good and just person...why are the heavens so cruel?"
.
.
"I wish I could have been the one in his stead....I wish I could have taken all his pain...so that he wouldn't have to go through this.."
Though Lan Wangji, the second young Master of the Gusu Lan clan, always wore a stoic expression on his face and wouldn't speak much, deep inside he really cares a great deal about the people dear to him. And if someone dare inflict pain on his loved ones, that person must pay the price.
As for the general who had stabbed Wei Wuxian, he was granted death on the same day due to the injuries conflicted on him during the war.
Had he not passed away like this, Xichen was sure that Wangji would have tore him apart with his own sword for doing such a thing to Wei Wuxian.......Even If he actually wouldn't do so, he would have definitely have harbored the thought in his mind...
.
.
.
.
.
Lan Wangji continues to sob.
After sometime, he feels a gentle hand patting his head.
"Wangji....it must be so difficult for you to see your precious person in that state. Trust me I also do feel scared about what might happen....but we cannot overturn what fate has written for us...we cannot avert from the consequences. What we can truly do now is to pray that everything will be fine and Wei gongzi will wake up soon and be fit and fine in no time."
Wangji turns to his Xiongzhang with tears in his eyes.
"I think that you should be with Wei gongzi now. I am aware that you haven't visited him ever since that day....2 days after rescuing him from the battlefield...it's been too long Wangji....go and be by his side....If there is anyone whom he needs now, it's you."
"But--"
"No buts. How is he supposed to heal if the person he loves so much is not with him? He might not be awake right now, but I believe that the presence of a precious person is good for healing. Go and be with him."
"You have to stay strong Wangji. So strong that no one would be able to take you away from him, not even the heavens. You two have endured a lot in these years and I truly wish that no more tragedy befalls you two. Now Go to him. My blessings are there with you and him."
Hearing these words sparked something in Lan Wangji. He felt slightly confident in his ability to be there on Wei Wuxian's side, which he earlier believed was non-existent. His brother's encouraging words made him feel a lot better.
He felt so odd yet so relieved at the same time..odd because he was crying out for god knows after how many years....that too in front of someone....and relieved because it felt like an entire mountain of sadness was being lifted out of his chest.
Now he stood up determined. He took his brother's blessings, greeted him and then made his way to the room where his beloved laid.
He took a deep breath and finally entered the room. The doctor saw him and gave a report.
"He is slightly better now Hanguang-Jun. We will continue to give him the medicines from tomorrow. Now if you shall excuse me."
Lan Wangji nodded and allowed the doctor to go back to his chamber. He also requested the others in the room who were helping out to excuse them for the night. Everyone bowed, gave respect and then left the room.
He now gently sits on the bed side and tenderly touches Wei Wuxian's face. Oh how much he misses him, jumping around happily, speaking nonstop to him and to others, teaching the younger disciples and playing around. He always kept the atmosphere lively around Gusu which was liked by everyone.
Lan Wangji holds his hands and looked at the unconscious figure.
" I really wish I can take away your suffering....for I cannot Stand to see you in pain. That was the reason I could not come in to your room for so many days. I was scared. But now I have come to understand that you need me here. And I have decided not to run away. I will stay by your side always.
.
.
.
.
Please............wake up soon."
With these words, he closed his eyes and in no time, fell asleep, with both their hands on Lan Wangji's lap.

In the wee hours of morning, a stirring was felt. Lan Wangji quickly woke up and what he saw made him question whether he is dreaming or not....Wei Wuxian's fingers were slowly but surely moving...
Lan Wangji went to the room of the doctor at light speed to inform him of this. Everyone came running to the room to check up on him and Lan Wangji remained outside to not slow down the work in any way.

"Hanguang-Jun, Young Master Wei's consciousness has returned and his condition is much better now. We will continue to monitor him. We will make sure that he makes a full recovery."
"Thank you very much for your services."
.
.
.
.
"Xiongzhang!"
"Wangji, how is Wei gongzi?"
"He has woken up around an hour ago. I was there beside him when I suddenly felt his fingers moving. I ran to inform the doctor." He said with a glee that could only be noticed by Xichen.
"I see.... I feel very relieved now. A storm has passed on."
"Yes...... And thank you Xiongzhang"
"What for?"
"For your advice. It made me more confident in myself to stay with the person I cherish the most."
"Oh... I am happy to know that I could be of help......Also Wangji, do take some rest. Don't wear yourself out. Okay?"
"Yes."
Lan Wangji bowed to his brother and went back to be with Wei Wuxian
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
"Lan Zhan!!!! You are here finally"
"Slowly! Don't try to get up like that. You are still heavily injured. You might start bleeding again."
"Yeah yeah, I am sorry." Said Wei Wuxian, taking the good advice as he felt a sharp pain through his chest when he tried to get up in excitement.
"How are you feeling now?"
"I am very fine! I can even go hunting now with the kids--"
"Don't exaggerate."
This statement led to a pouty face by Wei Wuxian.
Then, he signaled Lan Wangji to come to his bedside. The moment he came, he was enveloped in a hug by his beloved. He put his arm around Wuxian and hugged him gently. Both of them missed the warmth that they were provided by the other.
"You know Lan Zhan? When I was unconscious, I was surrounded by what seemed like an endless black path with no light. I kept running with the hope that i would find some way out but I couldn't. I was in pain. I even called out your name but you never answered. What felt like an endless black loop finally came to an end where I could suddenly hear your voice asking me to wake up. That's what gave me a sudden power boost and I defeated the darkness to see the light.....which happens to be the daylight coming through the window. Obviously because it's morning time. 😁'
"Hmmm"
Lan Wangji said, smiling the entire time Wei Wuxian was talking. He was quite surprised to hear that it was his presence and his voice that allowed Wei Wuxian to come back to him.
In his mind, he thanked his brother again for his amazing advice.
And they continued with their conversation (with obviously Wei Wuxian speaking more). It was indeed a happy time.
And Lan Wangji swore to himself in his mind that he will always protect his man from all evil eyes and forces in this whole wide world.
Notes:
